WORDS FROM THE PUBLISHER
Hello SBMag Readers, Its America’s birthday month and we are seeing red, white and blue everything; clothing, flags, hats and more! We hope you are celebrating this Independence Day in awesome fashion and riding your motorcycle wherever the celebration takes place. Fly that American Flag LOUD & PROUD! Several rides are coming up this month; make sure to attend and support them if possible. We are proud sponsors and will be attending the Fallen Soldier’s March, Poker & Bug Run in Lebanon, TN this month (see the ad in this issue). It’s their 8th annual ride for a very worthy cause. These folks are dedicated to helping veterans with 100% of every dollar donated going toward providing service dogs for veterans in need. We hope to see you there. On another note, my husband, the Mag Man, was tossed off one of our horses and has ended up with several injuries; his riding season is over for this year. Please say a prayer if you are so inclined, for his health and recovery. In saying that, be careful out there enjoying great riding with

great friends or solo if you like doing that. We want you upright and on two wheels for the entire year. Stay hydrated and watch out for those grass clippings in the road from the non-riders mowing their yards. That seems to be a big problem as the year moves on. I’ll be heading to Blairsville, GA this week for a women’s motorcycle event called Steel Cowgirls at Copperhead Lodge. Really looking forward to hanging out with other women riders and seeing old friends (Amber Rowe) and meeting new friends. Hopefully there will be more and more women riders events like this soon. For the extreme hot weather coming, pick up some of those cool-vests, helmet cooler pads and neck cool-wraps that help keep you comfortable. They can reduce heat exhaustion and help you enjoy the ride for a longer time. Adding a sheepskin seat cover can also add to your comfort, preventing that chapped behind or use some Anti Monkey Butt powder to soften the chafe. Enjoy the America’s birthday month and as always, “Keep Your Knees In The Breeze” ©

The BOOGIE
HOLLAR Streaks Off into the Sunset By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
T
he 2019 Spring Boogie Hollar Rally in the middle of West Tennessee was one of those rallies you just had to attend. Yet, the rally came to end with sale of the 127 acres of prime real estate. Amber and Herbert Clark purchased this property back in the day and added another awesome venue for a HUGE Party to happen. They got the acreage in shape, built on site stage, bathrooms, showers, etc. and commenced with inviting people to their party… Crank Up the volume and folks came from all over to attend this event. Campers, trailers, RVs, tents and several golf carts helped folks rest and party the entire four days. Hundreds of attendees enjoyed four days of the best friends and family a person can know or get to know. Top entertainment like the Queen of Rock, Jasmine Cain, Zeona Road & Bone feather entertained everyone throughout the nights. During the day, the biker games took center stage folks enjoyed competing against each other. Amberland was hoppin’ and the party continued for some until the sun rose the next day. John McPherson stated, “I have been going to this event for many years…I will miss Amber and Herbert and maybe make it to their other rally someday. There have been many friends and memories made there.” With sale of the property, Amber invited everyone to attend her other event in June in Cookeville to get their Boogie Fix. “It broke our hearts to even sign the paperwork cause we have so many great memories at the Hollar”, she said. “We will for sure miss the beautiful land and loving family, but as always you can come and visit the Junebug Boogie cause it will still be rocking on!”

5 TH ANNUAL SPRING
Redneck Rumble By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy Photos by Candy Hurst

awd! The rains came and ol’ Mother Nature was PMSing again, but true to form, these rednecks came out to have great show and to have a good time. Scooter had his ducks in a row, so to speak, and the weather didn’t hold back the show. Hundreds came to the James Ward AG Center in Lebanon, Tennessee for the 5th Annual Spring Redneck Rumble. “Rain or Shine, this is just some of the (most) Dedicated Folks”, said photographer extraordinaire, Candy Hurst. No amount of water was going to get between no redneck and their party! Several folks took their creations on the road as Scooter’s Redneck Rumble held a Cruise-in to downtown Lebanon, TN. The caused a lot of commotion and many local folks came to take a peak at those rusted rods. Custom rusted bikes and Rat rods packed the center. Regular height, slammed, hydraulic lifted and some just plan draggin’, that’s how they come and that’s how they show. The helicopter ratrod was interesting. It’s tail where the rear rotors usually go shot out huge flames… COOL! For the car and bike show trucks, cars,
vans, motorcycles and some awesome custom creations were on display to win those coveted Redneck Rumble trophies. The was even one called the Iron Lung that look like it came right out of a old time Hot Wheels package… only bigger! The men weren’t the only ones showing their creations. Several women wanted those trophies for their own. And this year, you could see even the kids were getting into the redneckin’. Vendors were set up everywhere and selling their parts, memorabilia, household items and collectables. Everything from Nostalgia to Americana was on hand to take home for a price. Scooter has always said, “THE REDNECK RUMBLE is the south’s biggest and baddest hot rod, custom car and rat rod show, swap meet and lifestyle show, plus demolition derby and live music” you will ever attend.” And son… I believe him. Don’t miss this year’s 14th Annual Fall Redneck Rumble September 20-21 at the Wilson Expo Center in Lebanon, TN. Come get your Redneck on and we’ll see you there! 10 - Southern Biker Magazine

artersville, Georgia was the city and Southern Devil Harley-Davidson was the host site of the Combat Veterans 25-8 3rd Annual Ride for Life event. It included the William “Boats” Wallace Ride through the scenic roads of North Georgia by the Georgia State Patrol and a huge musical and charity event. Included in the event was a bike show, a car show, raffles, 50/50 and much more. Live concerts were performed by Michael Allman and Roadhouse Atlanta. The mechanical bull was g\hit with the younger folks, but we older folks stayed away. Over 60 vendors came to show and sell their items and donate to the charity. Hundreds of riders and supporters came out to take part in the ride and the event. Even Georgia Congressman Barry Loudermilk came out to show his support of veterans and thank them all for their service. A great assortment of military vehicles lined the entire property for folks to look at and admire. There were also many veterans and folks with service animals attending the event. Service animals are a great resource to help veterans in physical need and also to help them heal from the inside. Having a service animal myself, I can tell you first hand they are a welcome part of a person’s life. A big thank you to Southern Devil HD, the Combat Veterans 25-8, all of the volunteers, vendors and entertainers for a great event with perfect weather raised hundreds of dollars for a great charity. All proceeds went to benefit local veterans and Healing 4 Heroes; a non-profit organization that helps veterans heal the unseen. For more information, go to www.healing4heroes.org.

T
he 23nd Annual Leesburg Bikefest became home to thousands and thousands of motorcycle riders as noted by the packed venue and packed hotels. The largest 3-day motorcycle rally didn’t disappoint and hosted some of the most awesome riders from across the country and beyond. At the downtown venue and Gator Harley-Davidson there were 50+ concerts put on by some of the best top entertainers in the business; Vince Neil, Uncle Kracker, Vanilla Ice, Hayfire, Bobby Friss, Hypersona, Nirvanna - A Tribute to Nirvana, Jeff Vitolo & The Quarter Mile Rebels, Big Engine and so many more! During the day, the attendees could enjoy other forms of entertainment; The Wall of Death motorcycle stunt show, Ride Like a Pro motorcycle training group, Paul Sr. from Orange County Choppers was on hand to sign autographs and take some photo ops, the Team Extreme Stunt Show, Teach McNeil’s BMW Stunt Show and the biker games were big hit with many contestants entering those and fun to watch for spectators.

The bike shows attracted some of the most radical looking, custom built machines on the planet. The Rat’s Hole Bike Show always brings out the best show with those one of kind trophies. Winners were thrilled to take home a RAT! Several outstanding, tricked out Big Rigs convoyed into the event with the approval of thousands to have their own show. Some of those trucks had to have over $100,000 of customization in them. Hot Body contests reigned supreme with Ms Budweiser, Ms Pine-up, Ms Ratemate, Ms Daisey Dukes and of course, Ms Bikefest. Ms Southern Biker represented our magazine very well! Oh yeah, there was a Mr Lucky Man contest but that was for the girls. With 200+ vendors, you just couldn’t go wrong in any direction you went. One guy had a problem though…how to get all he bought on his motorcycle and get it home. The folks at UPS helped him right out! The Leesburg Partnership stated, “We wanted to reach out and THANK YOU! You help charities raise $157,196.64 at Bikefest!” July 2019

he Guinness Book of World Records added a new record; the youngest person to ride a motorcycle around the world is now 23 years old. Henry Crew unseated British adventurer Kane Avellano as the youngest person to ride around the world. Avellano was 26 years old and Crew managed to accomplish his tremendous feat in 381 days, without support vehicles or a team to help him. What motorcycle took on this challenge you ask? It was a mostly stock Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled (He got the bike as a loaner from Ducati’s press fleet). Securing the world record wasn’t the only reason for the ride. The 23-yearold raised money and awareness about men’s mental health, having suffered from depression since he was 14 and having lost friends to suicide. The money raised was donated for the Movember Foundation, which works to address men’s health issues worldwide. Crew battled through a few issues of his own in the past, and helping the Movember Foundation was his way of making a difference.

luggage rack, fly screen and engine guards, an extra USB charger at the handlebars and a pair of Rotopax fuel cans to extend the Ducati’s range. “I wanted to show that anyone can ride a bike and if I can circumnavigate the world, so can you!” said Crew. To qualify for a Guinness World Record, a rider must meet specific criteria. Total distance traveled has to be more than 24,500 miles, and the route must pass through several antipodal points to actually count as circumnavigation. The rider must start and stop at the same point as well. He traveled through 35 countries and six continents for a total of 52,474 miles. That’s more than most bikes (and riders) manage in a lifetime. Oh, and Crew just got his motorcycle license in 2013!
roads… but he endured it all to the finish. He said, “If my bike got a puncture I had to ask for help to get it fixed, otherwise I would have been sitting on the road forever waiting for it to miraculously fix itself. It’s the same with your mental health. If you don’t ask for help, the problem won’t go away or fix itself.” This is a great example of perseverance and overcoming obstacles. If you need help, ask for help. Overcoming and conquering fears and your problems can be a challenge, but with help, we all win.
Crew had several setbacks and perils. He once waited a month for a new clutch to arrive. Another time, a flat tire nearly left him stranded in a remote Henry Crew (center) is canyon when he ran out of plugs. greeted by his parents Unexpected detours meant he rode 20,000 miles more than he had planned. entucky’s largest indoor motorcycle show took place in Owensboro, KY at the Owensboro Kentucky Convention Center. It featured bikes of all kinds and all creations. Top prizes went to the Best Bagger in the Bluegrass and the Best Low Rider in the Bluegrass. They had 16 other classes for folks to enter their works of art. Other activities to keep things interesting included a tattoo contest, a pizza eating contest, lots of vendors and so much more. The trophies were given out to top prize winners and most went away happy as the crowd cheered with excitement. The after party continued the day’s entertinment as my good friend Amy Brown and Phoenix Rising provided a live concert; she’s always in top entertaining form and full of energy to get everyone pumped up as she entertains the masses. If you have a sharp motorcycle, put this event on your calendar for next year!
