Watch out for those leaves on the road and some of the unexpected animals that the fall weather brings out; keep those two-wheels on the pavement. Several of our friends have gone down, fell sick or passed away unexpectedly. Please take the extra time to not only keep yourself safe and healthy, but take the a few more moments than usual just to chat with your friends and family. Hug them, tell them how much you appreciate them and be thankful for the closeness you share. Thanksgiving is also a time to help those less fortunate who may not be able to celebrate holidays. Go that extra mile by inviting someone new who may not have family or friends. Came to Rock... By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

aaaaaaaay back in my youth, KISS was my favorite group. I collected albums and knew the words to most all their songs. I nearly drove my parents crazy playing the record player and 8-track so loud. I was eventually allowed to go to one of the KIS concerts. Fast forward to today and the original group is retiring after their “End of the Road” tour sometime in 2020. But their popularity is beginning to have a resurrection of sorts. Several tribute bands have come forward to play KISS on stage and perform as the group has in the past. It brings out fans from yesteryear and new young fans today. Case in point, Kristi Jacks said when asked how do you know the words to the songs and even the group, she replied, “My parents! They rocked to this when they were my age and a lot of us love it today!” With hundreds of fans attending the Bootlegger HD concert, the members of Dressed to Kill left the audience with loud applauses and loud yelling out their songs. Many of the bands may have the words and act down pat, but hardly any leave you thinking, “Hey, that was them!” The band known as “Dressed to Kill” is one such group. I was front and center and on stage taking photos during the concert and once in crowd, I was taken back to my days of youth. They sang the songs and had a stage presence like no other KISS tribute band I’ve seen to date. They brought KISS to life and rocked Bootlegger Harley-Davidson like no other concert I’ve seen there yet. Gene Simmons (Mike Collins) came out with a huge sword on fire and then, Woooosh! The flame shot out from his mouth into the air like a giant explosion! A few songs later, he came out with his God of Thunder Axe and slowly stroked his base guitar, dragging the cords and then, blood erupts from his mouth! “I Love It Loud” begins as the crowd sings with him. Other highlights were Peter Criss (Casey Miracle) singing “Beth”, Ace Frehely (Brandon Collins) singing “Shock Me” and Paul Stanley (Christian Fugate) killin’ it on lead vocals with all of our favorite KISS songs. I maxed out my two cameras at the show (first time I’ve done that, 600+ photos), but found myself enjoying the concert in crowd, singing with everyone else. This band has the songs, mannerisms, stage presence, stage act, pyro blasts and more, just as the original KISS band did back in the day. Trust me when I say this, they are the Top KISS Tribute band. KENTUCKY BIKE RALLY By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

t the Union County Fairgrounds the Kentucky Bike Rally, known moreover as Little Strugis, came out with the doors busting open as hundreds rode their motorcycles in for a Bluegrass Party. Entertainers were like the LACS, Georgia Thunderbolts, Them Dirty Roses, Blacktop Mojo, Wreckless Whiskey and more kept the landscape hoping. The Hollywood Knockouts were also on hand for some eye candy great dancing.

The bike show and bike games were held indoors in the covered arena where seating room was a premium. Folks watched as the bike games took place and then continued on to the bike show. Afterwards the dirt drags took front and center with horsepower and some custom rear tires just for the event. Many other contests were held like the tattoo contest, best campsite and of course, the Miss Kentucky Bike Rally contest. Vendors sold everything from food to leather and everything in between. This is one of those must-go-to bike rallies, so if you haven’t been yet, put it on your 2020 calendar!

TRACTION CONTROL ADDED TO H-D TOURING & CVO MODELS By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

arley-Davidson is introducing traction control to its touring and CVO models for 2020 (Not included is the Road King & Electra Glide Standard). It’s called Reflex Defensive Rider Systems (RDRS) with chassis control, electronic brake control and powertrain technology. It also includes cornering ABS, linked braking, clutch assist and tire pressure monitors. A hill-start assist is just another item included in this package.

The road can throw some unexpected things at you like oil slick pavement, newly paved roads or even a corner that comes up on you quickly and you find yourself possibly not making it. That’s what this system is designed to aid you with. It does not increase your skill level, but it’s there to help when needed.

Last year the Milwaukee company introduced the RDRS to its trike models and the thought was, they would soon add it to other models, and they have. After success to these 2020 models, I’m looking for them to include it in other models next year.

Other manufacturers are including this type system in the production models (like BMW) so Harley is staying on the competitive edge side rather than sit back and see action. It ups the price on the models, but for those who are looking for their motorcycle to have state of the art technology on it, Harley-Davidson is making it happen now: i.e. Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking (C-ELB), Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System (C-ABS), Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System (C-TCS), Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS) and Cornering Enhanced Drag-Torque Slip Control System (C-DSCS), Vehicle Hold Control (VHC), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

AHDRA RETURNS! By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

rom its closure announcement in January of 2013 to resurrection in 2020, Bill Rowe Jr. and his family in conjunction with Pulse Marketing, a Pennsylvania-based motorsports promotion company will begin the daunting task of bringing back the ultimate in Harley Drag Racing venues; AHDRA, the All Harley Drag Racing Association. Pulse Marketing purchased the rights to the AHDRA brand from Craig Tharpe. Along with Bill Rowe, the series intends to run six to eight races in 2020 to begin the series return to racing. Sturgis, Rockingham and Bristol are obvious stops but we will post the entire schedule as it is announced.

I’m looking forward to a great series and getting back into AHDRA family of friends. I met some of the nicest and fastest people on the planet and our friendships still remain intact today; Tom Caldwell, Doug Horne, Tak Shigematsu, Ryan Oehler, Rich Vreeland, Donnie Huffman, photographer Jim Dohms and lots more!

Rowe stated, “We want to thank Craig for trusting us to take the AHDRA over. We’ve got five classes covered with sponsorships already, but there’s room for more to jump on board.” He continued, “We’re also working with the Top Fuel Harley racers to make sure our schedule plays nice with the NHRA schedule so that we get the pros at our events and develop the next generation of Top Fuel Harley stars right here at AHDRA.” The new website isn’t up yet, but it is coming. TRAIL OF TEARS MEMORIAL MOTORCYCLE RIDE

ROARS ACROSS THE COUNTRY By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

he official Trail of Tears Memorial Motorcycle Ride continued with its 26th memorial ride from Chattanooga, TN to Wewoka, OK with stops at Natchez Trace H-D in Tuscumbia, AL Tuscumbia, AL and Hot Springs, AR. Many riders rode to the one-day stopping point in Alabama, but several others went the entire route to Oklahoma. The Trail of Tears Memorial Motorcycle Ride is held in memory of the men, women and children that suffered, died and are buried in unmarked graves along the Trail of Tears route. Indians from several tribes walked, suffered and died on the hundreds of miles to be relocated in Oklahoma; Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole Nations. All along the route, riders enjoyed beautiful scenery, awesome roads, great camaraderie and creating great friendships. My wife Kristin and I have ridden in this event many times and each time we came away with wonderful memories to our life of riding. Crockett Powersports hosted the official Kick-Off Party with lots of vendors, food, corn hole and more where lots of folks enjoyed themselves preparing for the next day’s ride. Our SBMag Road Crew members Rick & Barbara Adams rode the route and took some good photos and our SBMag photographer Frank Pate came to snap some pics of folks enjoying the Kick-off party. TOTMMR board member and owner of Crockett Powersports, John Crocket stated, “(I) just completed nearly 900 miles on the Trail of Tears on a motorcycle. Cannot imagine what the original journey must have been like.” This is the ride that needs to be put on your bucket list. It is worth the great ride and the lessons of history you will learn along the way.

18th Junebug Boogie

Hosts Thousands By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

he 18th Junebug Boogie was larger than expected which was a welcome sight to not only the owners, Herbert & Amber Clark, but everyone that came. The party got large and loud in a hurry. My SBMag Road Crew showed up and decided it was their weekend off, thus partying with everyone! It is touted as the largest outdoor party for adults in Tennessee (21 years old and over only) and trust me… IT IS! The camping area was expanded last year and folks took advantage of every good spot there was. Campers, tents, RVs, trailers and more were everywhere the eye could see. Top acts came to perform and continue a 3 day part like no other. The main headliner was Cowboy, the Ultimate Kid Rock Tribute Band that absolutely blew the roof off the venue. But the bands that warmed the crowd up the entire weekend were Roadhouse Atlanta, Wasted, Liars Chair and Monkey Wrench. Vendor’s row was packed with 20+ vendors with lots to buy and eat. The biker games and contests had lots of folks via for the coveted Boogie Too medals mugs. A few new games were added this year and we’ve already heard those were total hits! The new 2019 Mr. & Ms. Boogie Too were crowned before a huge audience. One of my good friends Gary Hughett won Mr. Boogie Too and he had a large, fascinating entourage to say the least. The weather cooperated a lot better than the Junebug Boogie and folks partied until the wee hours of the morning. Transportation around the camp grounds included folks walking, riding their motorcycles or golf carts. Lots of memories were made and folks went away with having one heck of a good time. Herbert and Amber always put on a great event with a huge party atmosphere. Put the 2020 Junebug Boogie on your calendar because this is where the party is and where memories are made…. lots of memories!

2020 AMA ARENACROSS

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCED 12-RACE SERIES BEGINS IN JANUARY

he 12-event AMA Arenacross National Championship Series gets underway Jan. 3 in Loveland, Colo., as top riders from across the country compete on national television. The 2020 championship series is organized by Tod Hammock, who has operated an indoor motocross series since 1995. “Our series has always been a lifelong passion of mine, and to now be aligned with the American Motorcyclist Association and have it be a sanctioned AMA series is beyond exciting,” Hammock said. “I am looking forward to working alongside the AMA to continue to grow the wonderful sport that is Arenacross racing.” AMA Arenacross is motocross racing moved indoors, with tight course that place a premium on racer technique, finesse and fitness. “Arenacross is an important part of the AMA racing program and the AMA Arenacross National Championship will benefit fans and competitors,” said AMA Racing Director Kevin Crowther. “With Tod and his crew coming on board with the AMA, we know the series is in good hands. We welcome Tod and his series as the new AMA Arenacross National Championship and look forward to a successful 2020 campaign.”

“Shhhhh! Don’t tell Frank!”was the theme to one special night for one special person. Frank Pate has been shooting photos for motorcycle events, riders, special occasions and charities for decades. Let’s just say, he’s the Doc Holliday of photographers, shooting more pictures than ammo the Doc ever had.

Several friends got together to honor frank and get him something special to show their appreciation. John Haynes with Outlaw 45 began by donating his bands time and then began taking up donations for Frank’s special gift. Frank’s wife, Tina, was in on this little ruse as well. The location of this set-up was Charlie’s Restaurant & Lounge where a birthday party for Buddha was the event to lure Frank out. In the middle of a set with Outlaw 45, John and some special VIP’s presented Frank with a Canon 100-400 lens plus accessories. Needless to say, Frank was speechless. A few tears were shed, but everyone in the room felt like Superman, giving to a well deserved person. And by the way, these photos with this article are provided by…. Frank. Enjoy Frank, your friends love you and appreciate you, very much.

Elvis Presley’s ‘76 Harley-Davidson FLH Sells… for $800K By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

lvis Presley rode many motorcycles around his home area of Graceland and in his film days where he sometimes kept those motorcycles for himself like a Honda Super Hawk from the movie Roustabout. It is believed Elvis owned somewhere around 15 motorcycles (including 11 Harley-Davidsons). He was also very charitable and often donated his motorcycle for a great charity cause. The last of Elvis Presley’s motorcycle collection sold at an auction in September for a whopping $800,000 making it the third most expensive motorcycle in the world. The 1976 Harley-Davidson FLH was the last bike the King had purchased before he passed away three months later. It only had 126 miles on the tires. Elvis had it custom painted to his liking before selling it to a local Harley-Davidson dealership just before his death. Tony Rakowski then purchased it for around $25,800. He later swapped it for a car with Dave Geisler, the owner of the Pioneer Auto Museum (bet ol’ Tony is kicking himself right now!). The motorcycle spent 30 years in a glass case at the museum preserving its great condition. $2 million was thought what the sale price could reach, but that amount was never reached. His leather jacket he wore in the movie roustabout sold for a chunk as well; $40,000. The current record for the most expensive bike sold at auction is for a 1951 Vincent Black Lighting, which was sold by Bonhams last year for $957,000.

ne of North Carolina’s State Highway Patrol officers and great friend to many in the area, was paralyzed due to a motorcycle crash in the line of duty, while pursuing a suspect in Charlotte this past July. Many officers, riders, friends and family came to support him during a benefit ride and event planned for him and his family. The ride hosted by the North Carolina XVI chapter of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club began at Charlotte Motor Speedway with over 600 motorcycles spanning 12+ miles on the road registered for the event. Well over 100 law enforcement escorted and attended the ride and by the rides end at Independence Harley-Davidson, more than 1000 people in total had gathered with one purpose...to help a fellow biker out in his time of need. Independence H-D and the Charlotte HOG Chapter organized this wonderful event and it showed how they feel about their officers. It’s amazing how a motorcycle can bring so many people together from different walks of life and instantly turn them into a family. Maybe if everyone in this crazy world rode together, we’d have a few less issues. Big thanks to all the agencies and BikeSafe Assessors that helped, plus a special thank you to Cathy Cohn. “I don’t need an attorney for my accident…”

nfortunately, many of us have been in an accident and likely dealt with an insurance company or two, but did insurance really make you whole? Would the outcome have been different if you hired an attorney? Could an attorney secure a better recovery? When there is only property damage with no injuries, you can normally handle this with the guidance of your insurance agent. Insurance companies keep records of the current values of cars, motorcycles, boats, etc. (similar to Kelly Blue Book) and they know what the present value of your ride is. You may have paid more for your bike, but like many other items, the value depreciates overtime and often times the insurance company is only going to pay you what the current value is. An attorney may be able to negotiate a higher return for your ride, but you have to remember the attorney is going to get a cut of the recovered value or charge you an hourly rate. If you feel the insurance company is offering you too little, it is always the best practice to reach out to your local motorcycle attorney and see if anything can be done to get more. When negotiating your property damage settlement don’t forget to include items such as your helmet, gloves, jacket, etc. Your personal affects that were also damaged in the wreck, if any, are all a part of your property damage claim.

When you are hurt in addition to your bike being damaged, it is always best to work with your local motorcycle lawyer. Attorneys are well suited to negotiate with insurance companies who in general do not have an incentive to settle your case for much over your medical bills, if not less than your medical expenses. In addition, they have the knowledge and experience to go up against the insurance company which is something the average person does not have. The agent will act like your friend but they are not. An experienced attorney understands the ins and outs of the insurance industry and normally can negotiate a higher settlement from an insurance company. Generally, the greater the injuries the greater your settlement is. If an attorney is unable to negotiate a higher settlement, the attorney has the option to file a lawsuit against the person who caused the accident. An attorney will also be able to advice you about issue of comparative fault (whether you are partially at fault for the accident) or to determine who was at fault for the accident. What if I am at fault for the accident? If you find yourself at-fault for an accident be sure to contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Your insurance company will provide you with an attorney if an injured party files a lawsuit. If you do not have insurance be sure to contact an attorney about representation. When in doubt, contact your local motorcycle attorney for guidance.
