Upgrade your pet’s life. Boundary Plus® Technology means bigger freedom in smaller areas
• This exclusive technology delivers up to 30% more yard space allowing your dog (or cat) to safely play right up to the yard’s edge. It’s the perfect fit for unique or small lots and tight spaces.
Virtual endless boundary
• Prevents any “breakthrough” where pets run beyond the signal’s reach, leaving no room for escape.
Zero unintentional yard lock-outs
• Other systems can confuse pets if they “breakthrough” the boundary and try to reenter, emitting a correction and stopping them from coming home. Boundary Plus® containment ensures this can’t happen!

WORDS FROM THE PUBLISHER
Hi Folks, Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach Florida was a huge success and the weather was great; couldn't ask for better conditions for a motorcycle event. We love attending this event each year, seeing long time friends, meeting new friends, enjoying great food and riding around this beautiful city. If you haven't been to Biketoberfest yet, you need to mark the next date on your calendar: Oct 17-20, 2019. Hurricane Michael paid a nasty visit to the Florida Panhandle and continued a swath up through Georgia, Carolinas and Virginia. Thunder Beach Autumn Rally held each October was put on hold while the event organizers Karen and Joe Biggs, CONTACT US SOUTHERN BIKER MAGAZINE

The 78th
Sturgis Rally is in the Books
By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
L
ots of people made their way to Sturgis, SD for one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the world. For the 10-day rally, several of my friends and fellow SBMag Road Crew members made their way to take in all that Sturgis had to give. From downtown Sturgis, to the Buffalo Chip to the Full Throttle Saloon to the Broken Spoke to the Iron Horse Saloon, folks just couldn’t get enough of places to, people to see and things to do. Sturgis’ attendance was down yet again this year according to final numbers but it still attracts well over half-a-million total riders. Who doesn’t have this on their buckets list with all the things to do? Site seeing is something that only those who have come can explain… it’s just awesome. For a start, don’t miss Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, Deadwood, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Needles Highway, Devil’s Tower and the wild buffalo at Custer State Park. That doesn’t even include the riding to and from them. Top entertainment is always present at Sturgis as even the stars want to be seen there; Kid Rock, Eric Church, Foreigner, Pop Evil, Lynyard Skynard, Jasmine Cain, the Marshal Tucker Band, Steppenwolf, Blackberry Smoke, Molly Hatchet, Jackyl and many more!
The weather at first did not want to cooperate as large balls of hail fell from the sky damaging many motorcycles and retail tents, etc. But the weather turned better and party was on. Tennessee native, Michael Ballard’s Full Throttle Saloon is making a big comeback after burning to the ground two years ago. It’s now in its 2nd year after their big fire and the half acre, Olympic swimming pool kept everyone cool. If you wanted to go on a charity ride, Sturgis had more than you could go on; The Legends Ride, the Biker Belles Ride, The Green Knights Veteran’s Ride, Carey Hart’s Good Ride and lots more. It’s really hard to write about everything going on there unless you see it for yourself. Sturgis is one of those events you need to put on your bucket list. It’s worth the ride! 8 - Southern Biker Magazine

25th TRAIL OF TEARS MEMORIAL MOTORCYCLE RIDE By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
T
he 25-year tradition continued as the official Trail of Tears Memorial Motorcycle Ride took place with riders taking their motorcycles from Tennessee to Alabama to Oklahoma. This ride is held in memory of the men, women and children that suffered, died and are buried in unmarked graves along the Trail of Tears route. Indians from several tribes walked, suffered and died on the hundreds of miles to be relocated in Oklahoma; Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole Nations. This one of those rides that has to be put on your bucket list. Beautiful scenery, great camaraderie and the friendships

you make last a lifetime. My wife and I have ridden this route many times, rain or shine, and it has always added wonderful memories to our life of riding. This year’s ride began at Crockett Powersports with the official 2018 Kick-Off Party. Hundreds came to enjoy music, good food and spending time with friends and meeting new ones. Several vendors were on hand and our SBMag Road Crew Frank & Tina were there to take some great photos. John Crockett and Crocket Powersports were presented a Certificate of Appreciation from the Trail of Tears Memorial Foundation for their donation to the
Bill & Paulette Cason Native American Scholarship Fund and their support of the ride. The ride left out on September 15th and ended the day Natchez Trace Harley-Davidson in Tuscumbia, AL where the riders were treated to live music and great food. The next day, the ride continued on to the eventual end of the long Trail of Tears at Tahlequah, Oklahoma. There you can now see the “Transformation Through Forgiveness” sculpture of “Eagle Man,” standing atop a turtle base that will serve as a perpetual reminder that the power of forgiveness dwells in all of us.

FIGHT LIKE AIDEN V By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
N
ine Year-old Aiden Martin is all smiles today. He doesn’t seem to show the real struggle he is still going thru today when you see him. But while he’s in the middle of his motorcycle buddies, he just wants to be one of crowd. At two years old, Aiden drowned in a swimming pool and it took 20 minutes of CPR to get a pulse. In the hospital for months, the doctors told his mother that he would be in a vegetative state his entire life. Not with standing a lot of prayers, Aiden’s mom refused to let be her answer. God has always been the last word. She began the fight with Aiden… and shortly afterwards, Aiden began his fight himself. The Fight Like Aiden call goes out and a huge contingent of motorcycle riders come from all around to support Aiden and his fight… his fight to live. Insurance doesn’t cover everything and this benefit helps the family with expenses like stem cell transplants and hyperbaric oxygen treatments. Close our own hearts since my wife and I live on ranch in Madisonville, Aiden also does horse therapy. It seems to help with his physical upper body strength. Horse therapy is used in many ways with many different injuries and this is just another therapy not covered by insurance that Aiden needs.
But Aiden’s motorcycle buddies are stepping up in a big way. The group known as RRR (Triple R) has supported this ride from day one, just five years ago. Other motorcycle clubs and individuals also rallied to the call and this year was no different. Well over 100 motorcycles took off on ride where at the end, awaited auction items and raffles to raise more funds. Organizer Richard Ford let everyone know the great news; “We have to thank each and every one that has gotten donations, volunteered and came to the ride. The total raised was an amazing $25,105.07! FIGHT LIKE AIDEN!” Ashley stated, “Thank you all so much for everyone who helped in one way or another. It wouldn’t have been possible without you all. Especially two people in particular, Richard and Kim Ford. We love you guys.” Aiden continues to show small progress, but that progress is happening. The struggle is real… and the fight continues. As I’ve said before, “I don’t think his supporters will ever stop hoping, believing…and fighting, like Aiden”. If you didn’t make the event and you’d like to make a donation, you can make a donation thru Paypal at fightlikeaidenv@yahoo.com.

A WISH COME TRUE
W
hen Hayden Fugate was only four years old, he was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer. Since then he has undergone multiple treatments including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. There are currently no additional treatment options available for him. Hayden’s dreamed of one day being in the military so he could catch the “bad guys”.
Members of the Tennessee Air National Guard’s 134th Air Refueling Wing invited the Knoxville Police Department including their Blue Hawks Motor Cops and Knoxville Fire Department to help make 11-year-old Hayden’s wish come true. Hayden became an honorary member of the 134th Air Refueling Wing, the Knoxville Police Department, and the Knoxville Fire Department. It was a very moving experience and a true honor for us all to meet Hayden and welcome him to our family.
eginning with a bunch of Lego blocks from a kit of the BMW R1200GS Adventure bike, a Lego Technic’s team produced a snap-together model of a flying BMW. The Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer was so inspired, the built a concept motorcycle. BMW’s design department maintains a farm team they call the BMW Junior Company, for young designers working to perfect their talents before promotion to the big leagues. They were so inspired by the Lego Hover Ride model that they built one in full scale. The flying mechanism is not actually on the bike yet and thus it doesn’t fly, but who knows what the next step for this flying masterpiece will be. “It was incredibly inspiring to see colleagues from different disciplines working with our trainees,” said BMW’s trainer for technical model-making, Markus Kollmannsperger. “Everyone involved in this project learned an awful lot.”
Iron Horse We’ve all heard the phrase, “Rode hard and put up wet.” It was a phrase used to reflect the lack of care of horses. Our “iron horses” are no different. When they aren’t cared for after and before riding, the wear and tear is obvious. Your bike is an investment and you can protect that investment through proper care. Sure, there’s always depreciation and your motorcycle will usually not appreciate but you can slow down the depreciation with proper care. While running a dealership, it was obvious of how people cared for their bikes. It showed in every area, from the outward appearance to the inner workings. Regular maintenance, like oil changes, brake fluid, plugs, checking tire pressure and tread, and replacing clutch and brake cables is important for the care of your motorcycle. Neglect can not only depreciate value, it can also be dangerous. It’s all about getting into good habits and having the right products on hand. Everybody has different favorites. I always liked to carry a little bottle of detailer in my bag that I could touch up my bike no matter where I was. It was good for paint and chrome. But every once and awhile, it’s important to do a real good wax job. If you don’t have the time and energy, it’s best November 2018
to find someone who is a good bike detailer. If you have someone who does it at least a couple of times of years, it’s much easier to keep up with the rest of the time. It’s like having someone do a deep cleaning of your home. Maintenance is easier then. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that someone who does auto detailing will also be good with bikes. Make sure you find someone who knows how to detail an “iron horse.

13 Annual Fall REDNECK th
RUMBLE By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy Photos by Candy Hurst
S
cooter put on one hell of a good ol’ rusty party. This was a packed event full of everything redneck and everything rat rod. Located at the James Ward AG Center in Lebanon, Tennessee, folks from all backgrounds came out to have a good ol’ redneck time. Rat rods, motorcycles, custom made works of art painted and rusted all came to show off what they had. Some of these machines you just wouldn’t believe the creative designs.
Slammed cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles of all kinds and every way to make them were out on the roads to tout their stuff. Contests were held and trophies awarded for some of the top builders and their awesome creations. The champions will have something to hang their hat on until the spring Redneck Rumble comes about. The trophies themselves were pretty unique and awesomely built. There was also a swap meet going on during the event with hundreds of vendors. Everything Americana was on hand for you to take home. There were also tons and tons of stuff to help add your own redneck style to compete in the next event. Collectables of all kinds were displayed and some of the oldest gas station and oil signs were available as were everything to complete your man cave. The demolition derby was also enjoyed by hundreds of attendees. Scooter always says, “THE REDNECK RUMBLE is the south’s biggest and baddest hot rod, custom car and rat rod show, swap meet and lifestyle show, plus demolition derby and live music” you will ever attend. The 5th Annual Spring Redneck Rumble is set for May 3-4 so come get your Redneck on and we’ll see you there!

Advice from Your Attorney T
here is a lot of traveling this time of year. You and your family are traveling to and from the store shopping, going out to eat with family, friends, and co-workers, and going to visit distant relatives. With so many people on the road, the more likely the unthinkable might happen: you or a family member gets into an accident. What do you do if the unthinkable happens? First off, if you are not seriously injured, turn your hazard lights on and if your vehicle is still operational, move it to a safe place, out of the flow of traffic. This is not only important to keep you safe when you go to get out your vehicle, but it also keeps other drivers safe who might stumble, or crash, into your accident scene. Secondly, if you’re able to, be an upstanding person and check on the others involved, even if you are not at fault. As hard as it might be, it is very important to keep a cool and calm attitude. This is a very traumatic and upsetting situation, but being kind and courteous to everyone involved will go a long way in the ultimate resolution in your claim. Thirdly, call 911. If you or someone else is injured, even if it appears relatively minor, it is imperative that EMS checks you out. Something minor now, could develop into something more serious later. It is better to nip it in the butt instead of letting it sneak up and bite you later. Even if you or someone else isn’t injured, it is still important to report the accident because an accident report is almost always necessarily to help resolve any potential disputes that might arise in the future. Now be sure not to admit fault or point the blame at the others involved in the accident. The police will be sure to question

everyone involved and any witnesses that might be around to objectively determine what happened and who is at fault. Also, as mentioned earlier, be courteous and respectful to the police and EMS who respond, your actions will go along way and might even help you avoid an unwanted ticket. Fourth, trade and gather information. Get the name of the driver and any of the passengers. Trade insurance information and copy down the license plate number, along with the make and model of the vehicle. If there are any witnesses, get their contact information; you might need their help later to give their account of what happened. Also, be sure to get the name(s) and badge number(s) of the officer(s) that respond to your accident, this will make getting your accident report easier. Fifth, document the scene. Almost everyone with a cellphone has a camera on it, whether it’s a fancy smartphone or a good ole reliable flip phone. Take pictures of the scene where the accident occurred, including any skid marks, hazards in the road, and each vehicle involved in the accident. Your insurance company will likely want these pictures to help settle your claim and in the event you have to sue or get sued the more documentation you have the better. Remember, be careful when you’re taking these pictures because you’re likely still on the side of the road and other cars are driving by. Sixth, report the accident to your insurance company. You don’t have to do this while waiting at the scene, but it is important to start your claim sooner rather than later. Starting your claims process will speed up your car getting fixed and put money back in your pocket for medical expenses you might incur. What if you’re out of state? Do everything above, but before you travel out-of-state familiarize yourself with the laws of that state. Each state is different and something legal in Tennessee might not be legal in another state, such as talking on your cellphone. Talking on your cellphone might affect who the police determine is at fault for the accident, its best not to be at fault. No matter what, in state or out-of-state, remember to call your local at home attorney after the accident. Your local attorney can guide you through the turmoil of having an accident, regardless of whether you’re not at fault or at fault. If you’re out of state, don’t call an unknown attorney, call your local attorney and let him help you find someone who will look out for you and your family. Your local attorney will answer any questions you have, help guide you through the insurance process, and help you recover what your insurance won’t get back for you.
