Found in Philadelphia Colorful, playful, timeless—Yowie values items that put new spins on classics. When she named her home and life shop, Shannon Maldonado started with 125 ideas before settling on Yowie, a tribute to Australia’s version of Bigfoot. But when it came to finding a permanent home for Yowie, which launched in 2016 online and as a series of pop-ups, she considered just one option. The first—and only—place the Philadelphia native looked was a storefront in Queen Village, a former garment and fabric district she frequented with her mother growing up. “It clicked to me that it’d be amazing to be on this street where I’d shopped my whole life, surrounded by old and new shops,” she says. In the 450-square-foot space, you’ll find a mix of items, from kitchen accessories to candles, that blend aesthetics with usefulness. “We want our products to be modern heirlooms.”
