Onrus
is a hidden gem by design. As a community, we enjoy to be “looked over” sometimes. But what exactly is it that makes Onrus different?
When you enter Onrus, you could be welcomed by a family of geese, whales and dolphins can be spotted just off the shore, bountiful amount of birdlife enrich our gardens and if you are lucky, you might spot a family of Cape Clawless Otters at the lagoon. Add to these outdoor wonders the wonderful and quirky restaurants and coffee shops and wonderful camp site, then it is easy to understand why Onrus is so unique, making it the quintessential South African beach holiday destination. As the Municipality, it is important to understand this and embrace this. Over the past 3 years, we have installed a new sewerage pipeline for Kidbrook and Bosplasie, to reduce the risk in the Onrus River. More than 100 septic tanks have also been inspected to make sure they conform to requirements and do not leak. Onrus beach has had 2 seasons of Blue Flag Pilot status and is now ready to be upgraded to Full status. Together with this, the ablution facilities at the beach will be upgraded. We are working hard to complete the picturesque Atlantic Drive footpath. This is a true asset to our community.

The Caravan Park will also enjoy some upgrades as well as the ablutions at Davies Pool. Our historic De Wet hall has also received some much needed upgrades. With the recent announcement of Fibre that is being rolled out to our area by the end of the year, we can be sure to attract Jean Orban even more digital nomads. Lets hope they don’t snap too many pictures for Instagram, spoilling our secret. Various artists, authors and sculptors has over the years called Onrus home. There is just something about what we offer that makes this place different: sense of community.
