A NEW COLORWAY FOR HONDA'S ENTRY-LEVEL CBR500R IN 2021 Honda announced the return of its CBR500R for 2021. The entry class sportbike has a new Pearl White colorway, in addition to the existing Matte Gray Metallic for 2021. The 2021 Honda CBR500R is available only with ABS with a retail price tag of $6,999.00. The CBR500R features a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin fourstroke engine, 41mm telescopic forks with 4.3 inches of travel, a 4.5 gallon capacity fuel tank and a curb weight of 423 pounds.
THE STREETFIGHTER V4 S GOES DARK FOR 2021
Ducati’s asphalt pugilist, the Streetfighter V4 S gets a new color scheme, come 2021. The 208hp, 1100cc Desmosedici Stradale engine powered Italian naked bike takes to the darker side with a new “Dark Stealth” colorway. Dark Stealth is a matt black color that represents the perfect chromatic choice to show the aggressive side of the ultra-naked Ducati. The entire Streetfighter V4 model range is compliant with the Euro 5 anti-pollution legislation. The 2021 Streetfighters
are fitted with new front brake and clutch pumps. The pumps are self-bleeding and derived from those used for the first time on the Superleggera V4. The body of the new pumps is designed with a configuration for natural’ bleeding. This eliminates the need to intervene on the system in the event of air present in the circuit. THE PRESS ROOM: INDUSTRY NEWS TRIUMPH'S 2021 TRIDENT 660 The 2021 Triumph Trident 660 steps into the middleweight class with an allotment of features and components that Triumph is betting on to incite new Triumph riders while envigorating the experienced two-wheeled enthusiast. From the visual standpoint, the Trident's roadster style abides by the less is more school of thought, a hybrid of cafe style and naked street bike. Minimal and sporty. Simple and clean. The engine is the heart of the Trident. A liquid-cooled, 12 valve, DOHC, inline 3-cylinder 660cc engine produces 80hp and 47 foot-pounds of torque with a majority of the power available throughout the powerband. The Trident 660 offers two riding modes (road and rain), switchable traction control, ride by wire throttle, ABS, color TFT display, LED lighting and the “My Triumph� Connectivity System. Suspension and brake departments are composed of Showa upside-down front forks, a Showa preload-adjustable rear mono-shock and a Nissin brake setup with twin 310mm rotors on the front end. With a wet weight of 417 pounds, the 2021 Triumph Trident 660, priced at $7,995.00, is available in four color schemes: Silver Ice & Diablo Red, Matte Jet Black & Matte Silver Ice, Crystal White and Sapphire Black. IT WAS TWO years ago when Aprilia introduced the world to the RS 660, a concept bike at the time, at Italy’s EICMA show. A couple of years later, the RS 660, no longer a concept machine, is a production model with all of the proverbial bells and whistles. Looking at the front of the RS 660, you note straight away the new direction that Aprilia is making by way of a newly designed upper cowl with a new distinctive face, that houses a unique LED headlight setup, integrated blinkers in the daytime running lights, bending cornering lights, a twilight sensor to auto-activate the low beams, and emergency brake activation. It is a fresh take utilizing today’s lighting technology and integrating it into the overall design of the bike. The RS 660 is presented in a sporty trim that reads ready for the attack, at the same time, is very welcoming and rider-friendly. In the saddle, where a larger rider like myself could have used just a smidge more room between tank and tail section, the rider stance falls between aggressive and sporting. The comfortable ergonomics are courtesy of the position of the narrow rear sets, the seat height and the above the top-triple-tree clip-ons. With everything in reach, the RS 660 is easily manipulated to perform in a number of riding scenarios. A standout design feature for me is the fuel tank. Strong lines and a sculptured shape allow for and provide an impressive contact area for your inner thighs, most appreciated when the riding is fast and more technical. Being able to lock in and feel that connection with the bike boosts confidence and enhances the riding experience. From behind the bars, the active TFT screen displays bike information, specs and data as well as serving as a portal to access the customizable features and riding modes that the RS 660 is equipped with. THE FIRST RIDE: APRILIA RS660 modes of which three are designated for street or road duty while the remaining are reserved for track or racing performance. For my road test, I began with the ride mode set in “commute” before experimenting with the “dynamic” setting. The final option in the road setting is “individual” where you can adjust and customize settings such as traction and wheelie control, engine braking and the engine map, cornering ABS, cruise control and quick shift. The track settings include “challenge” and “time attack” options, displaying only the necessary data for on-track or competition activities. All settings can be adjusted via the switch control buttons at the left handlebar. Addressing the elements of downward force control and aerodynamics enhancement, Aprilia utilizes fairing wings or winglets, referencing them as “double layer fairing.” Additionally, they move hot engine air away to help regulate engine temperature and do a decent job of shielding you from air pressure at speed. Before and after carving through Route 33 near Santa Barbara, California, an exhilarating blast on Highway 101 provided a nice opportunity to crack open the throttle and to see what the RS 660 had to offer in closer to a straight-line rate of speed. It did not disappoint. The RS 660 remained stable and sure of itself, handling with the desired response to handlebar input and throttle. The RS 660’s nimbleness can also be attributed to its frame design and suspension set up. The mass of the 403 pound (wet weight) 660 is centered in respect to its frame. The swingarm, the subframe, the one-piece exhaust system and the rigid yet lightweight aluminum frame, are all strategically mounted the engine. The employment of lightweight cast rims, adjustable 41mm front forks and rear direct adjustable shock, all assist in providing impressive handling and feedback. performance. The RS 660 is powered by is a newly developed compact and lightweight liquid-cooled forward-facing parallel twin that sets another benchmark for the Italian brand. With a maximum output of 100hp and 67 foot-pounds of torque, Aprilia’s new 658.8cc engine’s design delivers an impressive powerband with more than 80% of its torque output happening from 4000rpm and more than 90% above 6250rpm (maximum rpm: 11500). In other words, it had got some pretty big stones for a bike its size. The RS 660 isn’t just quick, its fast. Aprilia boasts a horsepower output of 100hp, the most in its class. And with every crack of the throttle, I enjoyed this perfect storm of horsepower, torque and aggressive acceleration. There was no waiting for the power to arrive. It was there from every twist of the wrist and roll on the throttle. It is important to note that while the Aprilia RS 660 checks all of the boxes in the aesthetics department while delivering an adrenaline-infused performance experience… the advantage that the 660 holds over other bikes in its class is rooted in technology. To explain my point, take a look at the bike’s brain or ECU. The RS 660 is working with a new 11MP ECU from Marelli, that offers more options and connectivity compared to the previous 7SM ECU that Aprilia had been using. The Marelli 11MP ECU features 144 pins (7SM ECU: 80 pins), 200 MHz (7SM ECU: 50MHz), and 4 Mb of flash memory (7SM ECU: 1Mb). This ECU is what makes all the bells ring and all the whistles blow. When lined up next to other bikes in its class, the RS 660’s ECU casts a mighty long shadow on its would-be peers. The 660’s electronics package is unexpected for a bike in this class. The implementation of intelligent technology is what will spearhead the next wave of Aprilia machines. Now, take that tech and add in the other features: the looks, the performance, the rideability… What you have is a machine that will draw in new riders to the Aprilia brand. you have is a machine that the experienced rider will get excited about. At least, that’s the hope that Aprilia is broadcasting. They just may be right. Why? To say it in a way that is easy for everyone to understand… The RS 660 is just fun. Ripping through the canyons, the highway, the back roads, the bike is exciting and just damn fun to ride. And then, there is the price. With preorders now underway, the 2021 Aprilia RS 660 is scheduled to arrive in US dealerships before the end of the year in three colorways. Lava Red and Apex Black are priced at $11,299 while the third option, Acid Gold has an MSRP of $11,499. Aprilia’s RS 660 is poised to lead the charge for the manufacturer as they embark on a new direction with significant advancements in engineering, technology and design. confines. Cruiser riders covet low seats, and the big Beemer delivers with a saddle 27.1 inches high. The nicely low seat is enabled by a squat rear suspension that works through 3.5 inches of travel. It performs adequately for the most part, but big hits will make you wish for more cush. An overly firm seat doesn’t help. The beefy 49mm fork performs better, as it has 4.7 inches of stroke to work with. As is the case for long and low cruisers, the R18’s dynamic performance is compromised. The BMW’s big jugs, er, cylinders, demand further concessions by forcing a rider’s feet to reside behind the voluptuous cylinders rather than being stretched out ahead. Long-legged riders will prefer shorter trips, and all riders will prefer a cushier seat. BMW graciously offers the option of a taller seat at no extra charge, which is likely a smart choice.
While we’re whinging, let’s bring up the fact that this pricey motorbike full of electronic doodads is lacking a fuel gauge as well as a miles-to-empty meter. (It does have a miles count-up feature when the low-fuel indicator is triggered.) It’s difficult to imagine the meeting of BMW department heads when they decided to leave out these useful items, both of which have negligible cost, especially on a machine that in every other respect screams “premium.” The triple-disc brake system is strong, and it one-ups the Softail Slim and its single front disc. The R18 is also endowed with corneringABS and is a partial-integral system by which the front brake lever also applies one piston at the rear for extra stability and no noticeable intrusion. As a BMW built in Germany, the R18 can’t be bargain-priced, so it starts with a base price of $17,495. The R18 seen here is the First Edition version, which includes the classy white pinstriped paintwork, numerous chrome surfaces (even the brake calipers!), a seat badge and a “First Edition” chrome clasp on the side covers. It retails for $19,870.

For Garrett Gerloff, WorldSBK is full of opportunites. It so happens that Gerloff will have more opportunities to put it on the box for another season after agreeing with GRT Yamaha to pilot a new Yamaha R1 for the 2021 WorldSBK season. Gerloff will be joined by Kohta Nozane, a 24-year-old rookie from Japan. Nozane is the
2020 MFJ All-Japan Road Race JSB1000 Championship leader, having won every race this season, thus far. “I’m just super excited to be staying with the GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Junior Team for the 2021 season. The mandatory suspension went into effect on December 17, 2019. Iannone exercised his right to appeal the decision, filing in March of 2020, but has been unsuccessful in that effort.

Great expectations, everybody’s watching you…” Coming into the 2020 season, the talk amongst the rookies was, “How was Alex Marquez going to do at Repsol Honda?” I personally thought once Brad Binder came to grips with how a MotoGP bike works, he was going to be something to watch, and boy did he make me look like a genius on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the Czech Republic. Binder is a former Moto3 Champion and a runner-up last year in Moto2 to Alex Marquez. But there was something about Binder that was special… in a way, Marc Marquez-like special. Like the time he had to start last in a Moto3 race and won! Yeah, this kid was special. He comes across as unassuming as Jerry Mathers, but once that helmet lid goes down he does his own version of “Leave it To Beaver” with a special focus on the “leave it!” His first race was nothing spectacular, a 13th place finish. But you do have to feel for Espargaro. It’s like helping the girl you like move into her new apartment and she ends up sleeping with the guy who plugged in the lamp! Make no Mistake, Binder made his presence felt this afternoon in August. The way he has managed himself the last couple of years in the lower classes, it is clear that he ain’t going nowhere! Binder wasn’t the only new-not so new rider to make his presence known this afternoon. In Moto2, Enea “The Beast” Bastianini made it two in a row as he cruised to victory and took the lead in the championship. Albert Arenas looks to be the man to beat in Moto3 as he secured a podium finish despite being more bruised and battered than a Chris Brown date. “Johnny come lately, the new kid in town. Will she still love you when you’re not around?” The next two rounds of the championship will be at the home of KTM in Spielberg, Austria. KTM gets two home games and with a wide-open championship in the bizarro year that 2020 is proving to be, who knows what we’ll be talking about or what new hero will emerge. After Austria, the two-wheeled circus heads to Misano, the home of Valentino Rossi and most importantly the return of Eight-time World Champion, Marc Marquez… Daddy’s home! CAMERA TECHNOLOGY HAS come a long way and unless you’ve been living under a rock you may have noticed a surge of amazing footage on social media being captured in an enigmatic fluid and beautiful way. The new age of beautifully crisp and dynamic HDR 360 camera footage available in the palm of your hand has arrived – the Insta360 ONE R. Last year Insta360 revealed their One X 360º camera which was quite amazing but still had a few minor issues. This year Insta360 upped the ante and released the Insta360 ONE R — a much smaller and more compact dual-lens camera with a multitude of features and creative possibilities. This camera has revolutionized how you will create media. I’ve personally mounted mine onto my bike and taken it to the track allowing me to create a much more immersive and dynamic experience for my viewers! For starters, you can now record up to 5.7K 360º with Insta360’s amazing FlowState stabilization technology. I was very pleasantly surprised how well the stabilization works — I mounted the camera to the front end of my motorcycle on an extension arm. the footage came out perfectly smooth. Recording features vary from 24fps to 100fps and as large as 5760×2880. There are 4 video options to choose from: Standard, HDR, Time Lapse and Bullet Time video; all of these offer unique editing options and possibilities. The camera itself is waterproof up to 5m which I haven’t tested personally. However, I have gotten caught in the rain a few times. If you are planning on using the One R for any motorsports activities I highly recommend getting yourself the Rugged Lens Protection case which is extremely light and minimal but offers excellent protection against road debris. The possibilities are truly endless with what you can do in post-production and the ease with which it can be done. Initially, it may be a little overwhelming to get the hang of editing. But Insta360 does a great job with their online tutorials and constantly puts out new ideas and editing features to spark creative flow and support. Editing happens on your phone while blue tooth connected using the Insta360 App. It’s very intuitive and pretty easy to quickly grasp how to edit your keyframes and where to maneuver the focus point when creating your footage. Built-in features include Auto Frame, Hyperlapse, Point to Track, and Slow Motion which can add a great dynamic to your videos with ease. One very cool feature I want to elaborate on is the Point to Track: You can select your subject with a tap or a voice command when shooting in 360. The Insta360 ONE R’s AIpowered tracking algorithm keeps it locked in center-frame. Even when obstacles break your line of sight, Deep Track picks up the shot as soon as your subject reappears. selfie stick which gives the effect of the camera “flying” and following you depending on where it’s mounted. Let’s talk about quality. Both the physical camera housing and footage quality of the One R surpasses its predecessor. It’s a lot easier to navigate the in-camera menus and doesn’t error out like the previous version. The footage is somehow clearer and the colors are brilliant. Not to mention you can tweak that even more in the editing app. The Dual-Lens 360 Mod raises the bar with Super 5.7K resolution, leveraging H.265 encoding, advanced image processing and an AI-powered finishing algorithm to preserve detail and make your footage pop. Sound is pretty decent too. This is something that many cameras struggle with. But I’ve had great success with getting a rather accurate sound in my videos without the constant hissing of obnoxious wind noise. One last thing I’d like to touch on is the battery life of the Insta360 ONE R. You’re looking at about 70 minutes of video record time. It’s not a lot however it’s understandable considering you are running a much more sophisticated system. I would suggest investing in a backup battery. This is such a versatile and creative piece of equipment I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun it’s been having one. If you’re a vlogger, digital media creator or simply want to create exciting and highly creative quality videos, then this is the camera for you.
