SPORTS & ACTIVITIES DIRECTORY (954) 803-2140 Office 1118 SW 7th Street

Boca Raton, FL 33486 www.sportsandactivities.com

Dear Readers,

Happy Holidays! I can’t believe another holiday season is already upon us. Family life keeps us so busy that the time just seems to fly by. I hope that you have a chance to stop and enjoy all that this holiday season has to offer, whether it be spending much needed time together as a family, visiting with extended family out of town or just being present and in the moment to take it all in.

The winter season is my favorite time of year in South Florida. The weather is perfect and it’s a beautiful time to be outside. Check out our Calendar in the Events Section (green tab) for all the fun holiday-themed events our wonderful cities have lined up for you to enjoy. As we head into the new year, it’s a great time to go outdoors to try a new sport, visit local attractions, attend local events or just enjoy the time together outside as a family.

November is also the time to register for the upcoming winter & spring sports’ seasons. All the registration periods can be found in the Main Directory (red tab) of the magazine including baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer, softball and more. We absolutely love the partnerships we have with all our Coral Springs & Parkland schools. We are so proud of all their achievements. In our last issue we reported the grades of all our schools and we made a mistake in the grade for Park Springs Elementary. We reported a “B” grade when they are actually a “A” school. We know how hard they work for our students. We apologize for the mistake.

Broward County Public Schools will be closed for Thanksgiving Break the week of November 25 - 29, and Winter Break begins on Monday, December 23 - Monday, January 6. Registration is open now for camps, programs, and activities taking place during these weeks to keep your child active and engaged. In addition, enrichment programs and activities are ongoing and include dance, gymnastics, martial arts, golf and tennis, most of which offer school days off and week-long camps, too!

On a personal note, I would like to thank our incredible outgoing commissioners from Coral Springs & Parkland Ken Cutler, Bob Mayersohn & Joy Carter. They have been inspirational local leaders. I have had the pleasure of getting to know them and their love & dedication to our cities. We have been lucky to have them serve, and I will miss working with them.

I want to wish you and your family the very best this holiday season. Cheers to a happy, healthy new year!

My best to you,

Dear Parkland Residents,

One of the great privileges of serving as Mayor of Parkland—and there are many—is working alongside others who love our City as much as I do. For the past six years, two as a Commissioner and four as Mayor, I have served with Commissioner Ken Cutler and Commissioner Bob Mayersohn. While we work together on the important business of Parkland, I also consider them my friends. That isn’t to say we always agree. Sometimes we do, but many times we disagree. And that’s exactly the way it should be. We share a passion for our City, but we have different views of it and that naturally produces varying opinions. The real value of those varied opinions to the residents of Parkland, however, lies in our ability to disagree amicably. It’s nothing personal, you’re entitled to your opinion as I am mine, I want to know why you hold a particular opinion, and I hope you want to know why I hold mine. Sure, there are easy issues that come before us on which all members of the Commission agree. But when the choices are hard, and when we’re faced with choosing the lesser of several bad options, varied views help all of us understand all perspectives and cast responsible votes in the best interest of our residents.

So, as Commissioners Cutler and Mayersohn have reached their term limits and depart this month, I want to thank them for their service to the City of Parkland. For eight years they have been tireless advocates for the residents of their districts and for all Parklanders. They are the only remaining members of the Commission who were serving on our City’s darkest day. On February 14, 2018, the unthinkable happened. We were stunned, we were devastated, we grieved together, we grew together, and to this day we continue to deal with the aftermath while remembering the victims we lost. We do our best to support the families of the 17, the injured victims, and the countless victims who were at school or in our community that day and still feel the trauma. All of that support began on that Wednesday afternoon while Commissioners Cutler and Mayersohn helped lead the City through those difficult times. And to be sure, they have instilled in those of us on the Commission now, that we will never stop supporting those who need it and we will always remember those we lost. It is an honor to serve this City, and it is a luxury to do so with friends. Bob and Ken have been that to all of us on the Commission. But their service to our community began long before they were elected by our residents to the City Commission. Ken has always been a historian for Parkland and heavily involved in the Parkland Historical Society and the Parkland Friends of the Library, that dates back nearly 30 years. Bob has been involved in Parkland Buddy Sports and has served the City as a member of the Education Advisory Board and the Planning and Zoning Advisory Board before running for a seat on the City Commission. They have long since had others in mind. So, thank you Commissioner Ken Cutler and Commissioner Bob Mayersohn for your unwavering service to the City of Parkland and all of its residents. Thank you for your thoughtful input, your tireless efforts, the long nights and weekend work, and your passion for the City we all love. It has been a privilege to serve alongside you. And while we wish you the best of luck in everything you do in the future, we will never forget the lasting impact you have had on Parkland.

Your Parkland Mayor, Rich Walker If you would like to share your thoughts or if you have questions or comments you would like to share, I would love to hear from you. I can be reached via e-mail at rwalker@cityofparkland.org or via cell phone at (973) 390-1453. I am frequently available monthly at Parkland businesses and love to talk with residents there. I encourage you to visit the City’s website, cityofparkland.org and click on the social media icon that you prefer, to ensure that you stay informed on events and helpful information.

Dear Coral Springs Citizens and Businesses, I hope you are enjoying the season and the cooler weather. At the moment, I’m writing this article from Kyoto, Japan, where it’s 70 degrees and cool.

If you’ve lived in Coral Springs for at least one year, you’ve seen one of our greatest strengths are the families we inhabit. I have loved living in Coral Springs since 1997 and have loved raising our five children here. I also believe that we attract so many family-oriented people here because of our commitment to our schools, parks and public safety.

In that vein, I just wanted to say thank you for being an integral part of this great community. I am asking for your input about all aspects of Coral Springs. Why did you choose Coral Springs? What do you particularly enjoy about our City? What are some things we can improve on? Please email me at Sbrook@coralsprings.gov.

If you ever want to meet with me, I host regular office hours every month. You can either check our website or call Luwam Ghermay, my Executive Assistant, at (954) 344-5906.

I want to thank many of you for your great support over the years since I was first elected as a City Commissioner in 2002. In November I will be sworn in for my sixth term as your Mayor by two of my grandsons - Lucas and Landon. I am honored and thrilled.

Over the past year we have integrated Move with The Mayor with our residents participating in physical activities with me and our Commission. Please check our website to find our next activity and other events at www.coralsprings.gov/events.

I hope you all have a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving coming up. If you ever need to reach me, feel free to call my personal cell at 954-494-9872.

Warmly,

NOVEMBER

Financial advisors, economists, and journalists are all called upon to forecast the markets, the economy, and even expected investment rates of return, essentially, by predicting a theoretical future. It’s tempting to want to be a seer, however, it’s fallacy, and cannot reliably be accomplished.

With the ubiquity of the financial media and the internet over the last 15-20 years, more times than not, clients become inundated, and thus, concerned with what they hear/see/ read, and we, as investors, frequently need to address this “noise”, in a responsible fashion.

With the coming election, and all that it touches, adds yet another layer of complexity to an already complex investment (and political) landscape.

At this point, given the fluidity of the election dynamics, and the high likelihood of a contested result, there are more questions than answers.

The impulse to “get out/go to cash” just before something bad happens - or in this context, an upcoming election - is innate in all of us. But it’s just that: an impulse, because getting out is at best, half of a strategy.

‘It’ll be a mess if they win, and we lose, so shouldn’t we sell?, etc.’ In a presidential election year it is a common fear.

However, historically, markets have not really cared which party is in the White House because red or blue, the direction of asset prices has continued to go up over time.

People care deeply about the direction of our country and instead of pleasing half of them by giving the financial nod to one party or the other, I will opt to disappoint nearly all of those looking for the “answer.”

Take a look at this chart from Goldman Sachs that shows the power of being fully invested through political swings [note: chart was created when Joe Biden was still a candidate, as noted in the text]:

As a father, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of bonding with your kids while creating unforgettable memories. If you’re a dad living in or around the Coral Springs/Parkland area, we have an incredible opportunity for you! The Seminole Nation’s Indian Princess Program is not just a tribal initiative; it’s a chance to be part of a supportive community, create lasting connections with your children, and engage in exciting activities.

This past month, our tribe proudly inducted 22 new members at Circle F, and we couldn’t be prouder of our accomplishments. At our recent campout in Lake Wales, Florida, we shone bright in various activities, from war games to skits, crafts, and even a canoe race! The highlight? Receiving an invitation to bring the coup stick home for the Cherokees, which speaks volumes about our tribe’s reputation and camaraderie. We truly are the biggest and best tribe around!

If you’re looking for a way to connect with your kids while contributing to the community, the Indian Princess Program is perfect for you. We are all about teamwork, friendship, and making memories. Every month, our Cherokees come together for a community dinner, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for dads and kids alike. Throughout the year, we organize around six campouts, Fathers and daughters participate in cookoffs, crafts, charity events, and parades.

Imagine cozy nights around the campfire, the smell of delicious food wafting through the air, and the joy of watching your child participate in fun activities. Earlier this year, we even had a thrilling sleepover at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) and are gearing up for another unforgettable experience with a sleepover inside SeaWorld. It’s all about fun, adventure, and creating lifelong bonds!

Being a part of the Indian Princess Program means you’re not just a member of a tribe; you’re part of a village. We’ve all heard the saying that it takes a village to raise a child, and here, we embody that philosophy. It’s about building a network of support and friendship where dads can rely on one another while their kids flourish in a nurturing environment.

So, do you know a local dad who doesn’t mind pulling their own weight, wants to spend quality time with his children, and is eager to connect with neighbors? We invite you to join us! The bond you create with your child during these activities will be something you both treasure forever.

If you’re ready to embark on this amazing journey, send a text to Randle Ferrari at (561) 225-7098 to sign up. Let’s strengthen our community, build lasting friendships, and create cherished memories together. Join the Seminole Nation’s Indian Princess Program today, and become part of something truly special! Together, we can make every moment count!

In a world that often seems cold and indifferent, there is an opportunity for us to make a difference. While many may be aware of the foster care system, few truly understand the state mandated licensing process and vital role of foster parents. Foster parents are an integral part of healing childhood trauma and maintaining a child’s connection with their biological family. Foster care agencies offer a chance to be that change, an opportunity to receive the DCF required trainings and ongoing support once children are placed in your home. Foster care, by its very nature, seeks to provide stability, support and love to children who have faced adversities at no fault of their own. As a potential foster parent, you are uniquely positioned to offer a safe, stable environment to a child, 0-17 years old, who has experienced the traumas of separation from their biological families. Foster care agencies provide ongoing support and oversight to their licensed foster parents.

The decision to become a foster parent should not be taken lightly. It’s a calling that requires selflessness, patience, compassion, and an unwavering commitment from day one of training and extended to the day a child arrives to your home until the day the court determines the child will leave your home. Foster care agencies recognize this endeavor is not without challenges. The children in need of care often have complex trauma which shows itself as emotional and behavioral issues. These behaviors are an

expression of an unmet need. Foster care agencies have individuals working as part of the professional team that provide added support and oversight to all foster families and the child(ren) in their home. The foster parent training classes are “What to Expect when you’re Expecting a Foster Child”. Foster care agencies provide trainings and home inspections. They can answer any questions or concerns as they arise.

The statistics surrounding the foster care system can be overwhelming. According to the Children’s Bureau, on any given day, there are nearly 440,000 children in foster care in the United States. This boils down to over 1,800 children in Broward County alone. A child protective investigator may decide to remove a child from their caregivers if they have experienced some form of abuse, abandonment, or neglect. Their lives are instantly marked by instability and uncertainty. You have the power to change this narrative. By becoming a foster parent, you offer a child a sense of comfort, a consistent daily routine, and an opportunity to heal and grow. It is a chance to nurture their resilience in the face of adversity. The impact of a foster parent extends beyond the individual child. Your efforts can lead to a brighter future for the children you welcome into your home. Your decision to become a foster parent can be the turning point in a child’s life.

I

n today’s digital age, managing screen time is a challenge for many parents. With the integration of technology in classrooms, parents feel uncertain about how to set boundaries without hindering their child’s learning. Research shows that excessive screen use exacerbates ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, making it essential to find a healthy balance.

Understanding ADHD and its Impact: ADHD, as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder marked by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and difficulties with self-regulation and executive functioning. One such factor is excessive screen time, which can act as a powerful trigger for children already grappling with focus and impulse control issues. For these children, prolonged exposure to screens not only amplifies struggles with attention but also exacerbates difficulties in completing tasks and maintaining daily routines.

Screen devices (smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles) have become integral to many children’s lives. For children with ADHD, these devices can disrupt critical aspects of their development, affecting not just the ability to focus but also emotional regulation & sleep patterns, difficulty following directions, staying organized, and completing tasks at home and school. As they become absorbed in screen activities, these children often experience heightened impulsivity, which can lead to behavioral issues such as emotional outbursts and frustration when they are asked to disconnect from their devices.

Excessive screen use, particularly before bedtime, negatively impacts sleep. Poor sleep is a common issue among children with ADHD, and it can further exacerbate symptoms. Sleep is critical for cognitive function, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

Recommendations & Practical Strategies for Parents

1. Limit Device Time in Short Increments: Allow 30 minutes screen time per specific activity, followed by a break for physical activity or a non-digital game. This structured approach can help children with ADHD manage their impulses and prevent overstimulation.

2. Remove Devices Two Hours Before Bedtime: Implementing a “no devices” rule at least two hours before bedtime can significantly improve your child’s sleep quality. The absence of screen stimulation allows for melatonin production to normalize, facilitating better sleep. Encouraging other relaxing pre-bedtime routines, such as reading or listening to calming music, can also promote healthier sleep habits.

3. Set Clear Rules and Boundaries: Be consistent in setting rules about when and where screen devices can be used. For example, keeping devices out of the bedroom and designating certain times of the day for screen use can create a predictable routine for your child. Clear boundaries help children with ADHD understand what is expected and reduce conflict.

4. Encourage Alternative Activities: Introduce hobbies like sports, music, arts and crafts, or outdoor exploration to engage your child’s mind and nurture their creativity. Physical activities are especially beneficial for children with ADHD, as they help burn off excess energy and enhance focus.

5. Increase Parent-Child Interaction: Engaging in non-digital activities, such as board games, outdoor play, or cooking together, is a powerful way to improve your child’s emotional regulation and decision-making skills. These family bonding experiences help children develop social skills and self-esteem. Additionally, by modeling healthy screen habits like “no screens during dinner,” parents emphasize the importance of face-to-face interactions, encouraging meaningful conversations, strengthening family connections, enhancing their communication skills and emotional awareness. By actively setting clear boundaries and demonstrating mindful screen habits, parents can empower their children to manage ADHD symptoms more effectively, allowing them to reach their full potential both academically and emotionally. We have just finished the first quarter of school!

In September we held a special breakfast to honor our Grandparents. We want to thank all our grandparents who were able to come out to celebrate with us. It takes a village to raise children and we know they play an important role in their grandchildren’s life and education. We are so glad they enjoyed this celebration!

Thank you to our PTA and all their volunteers who held a successful Book Fair! This is aways an exciting time for our students and they made so many great book selections. In October, our PTA hosted our annual Halloween Dance which was a real treat for our students. We encourage all parents to join our PTA. Your involvement makes a big difference and adds to the success of our school. If you are interested in volunteering, be sure to register online by

The 2024-2025 School Year is in full swing and our students and teachers are embracing our theme: Wild About Learning. As we move into the Fall and Winter we have many fun events and our administration and teachers are working hard to build on our solid academic base while also focusing on character development in our goal to develop the whole child.

During November, our teachers and administration are working with our students on the character trait of Citizenship as we build our school community and encourage our students in ways in which they can contribute. We are encouraging our students to know, understand and display a high regard for rules, laws and government, heritage and for those who have served and sacrificed for community and country. Riverglades has several opportunities for our families to continue to encourage our lessons on citizenship. November 4th - 13th, Riverglades is holding a Thanksgiving Drive to collect food donations for meals for families at our sister school, Park Ridge Elementary. Our students will be able to celebrate the Veterans in their family and honor them with a special breakfast in our cafeteria on November 12th. November 7th - 9th will be our first Gator Store of the year and students who have earned points for exhibiting “Gator Expectations” will be able to turn in those points for fun prizes as part of the Riverglades School-wide Positive Behavior Plan. Due to previous weather issues, the Riverglades 1st Annual Fun Run has been moved to November 13th and November 15th. Riverglades has two restaurant fundraisers in November: on November 5th from 2:30-6:30pm at GLYK Gelato in Waterways Shopping Plaza on 441; and on November 19th from 3:00-10:00pm at Texas Roadhouse.

We will light up Riverglades with Kindness in December and students are challenged to offer specific acts of kindness throughout the month. We’re hosting

a Holiday Toy Drive from December 2nd – 10th to collect gifts for students at our sister school. Our families will get a chance to spread kindness as well during our annual holiday gift wrapping event December 4th-6th and December 12th-13th when teachers and staff bring in their gifts for their families and our PTA will take the task of wrapping off their list. The PTA is also hosting a Staff Appreciation Lunch on December 18th, so please reach out to our PTA leadership for how you can get involved. Riverglades will wrap up the month with a Holiday Sing-a-Long on December 20th before starting our Winter Break.

In January, Respect Rules at Riverglades! Staff and administration will be focusing on teaching students the importance of respect of self and others. Our students have an opportunity to show off their own writing and cheer on their schoolmates as they share theirs during our Literacy Night on January 15th at Barnes & Noble located at The Walk at University in Coral Springs. Students and families will have the opportunity to show respect for the Asian culture at one of our newest events, Lunar New Year on January 24th.

The PTA encourages our families to come join us to learn how you can get involved in school events and fundraisers at our monthly meetings on November 12th, December 10th, & January 15th at 8:30am in the cafeteria. Families are also encouraged to attend monthly SAC/SAF meetings, which focus on improving education through student achievement, curriculum, safety and discipline, on November 18th, December 16th, January 27th at 9:30am in our Media Center. These meetings are an important opportunity to be informed and effect positive change in our school. Anyone with a child at Riverglades is invited to join our PTA for more ways to get involved and volunteer. All event details as well as volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available at www.RivergladesPTA.com.

“The Raider Nation is in full gamer mode as our school year as hit high score after high score with our curriculum programing in the 1st Quarter! Our “GAME ON” theme has resonated with our Raider Student Gamers and have been excelling in the classroom with our Teaching & Learning, PM1 Test Results, and our participation in District & City-Wide Initiatives.

Our school’s Boys & Girls Soccer Teams completed a competitive season again and fell just short of the County Championship Playoffs. Our All-Star Choral Group placed Superior in District competition recently. And lastly, our World Renowned Raider Band of Pride hosted All-County Competitions on campus and swept with straight Superiors!

We appreciate all of our Partners In Excellence which support our school through Banners and donations via our RMS PTO Group. Thank you for making our school year a “GAME WINNER”.”

At Sagemont Preparatory School, we foster a dynamic and supportive learning environment that empowers students from preschool through 12th grade. Our curriculum is tailored to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle complex challenges confidently.

Preparing for the Future

Scientific inquiry is a core component of our educational approach, starting with our preschool and pre-kindergarten students. Through our Links to Learning curriculum, we harness young learners’ natural readiness to explore. Our engaging standards-based science curriculum features hands-on science and technology activities, ensuring a fun yet rigorous introduction to scientific concepts.

As students progress to kindergarten through 5th grade, we implement the STEMscopes curriculum, which emphasizes inquiry-based and student-centered learning. Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, STEMscopes ignites curiosity and foster authentic scientific practices. By following the 5E model—Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate—our elementary students actively engage in scientific inquiry, developing critical thinking and data analysis skills.

In middle and high school, the Sagemont Prep science programs deepen students’ understanding of scientific concepts. Collaborative learning and ownership of the educational process are central to our approach. In environmental science, for instance, students redesign sustainable cities, applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. AP Psychology students explore the brains of celebrities and fictional characters, merging scientific analysis with cultural studies.

Our commitment to experiential learning shines through in projects like paper chromatography, where students separate ink components from markers. This handson laboratory exercise teaches students about intermolecular attractions and polarity

while showcasing practical applications of chromatography in forensics, environmental monitoring, pharmaceuticals, food safety, and cosmetics. By calculating Rf values and analyzing fluorescent pigments under UV light, students connect their findings to real-world contexts, enhancing their understanding of scientific processes. Sagemont Prep educators equip students with the skills and technologies they will encounter in higher education, collaborating with local colleges to integrate advanced tools such as Vernier probes for real-time data collection.

At Sagemont Prep, we nurture inquisitive minds through rigorous scientific exploration and real-world applications. Our dedicated faculty members are committed to each student’s growth, ensuring they are well-prepared to face future challenges in the sciences. By instilling a passion for inquiry and critical thinking, we empower our students to become the innovative thinkers and problem-solvers of tomorrow, ready to tackle the complexities of the world ahead.

The Ram Family would like to take the time to send love and hugs to all families in the state that were affected by Hurricane Helene and Milton. Despite the disruptions caused by these hurricanes, the dedication of both students and staff to bounce back and continue learning is truly commendable.

The 1st quarter of school was awesome! The RAM family enjoyed many events and activities. We began the year with a PTO Ice Cream Social Family Night. It was a blast as many families came to support the event. The participants sampled ice cream, popsicles and other frozen treats. What a way to begin the year!

In September, we hosted “Breakfast with Grandparents” and it was standing room only. The grandparents and grandchildren spent quality time with each other while eating a delicious breakfast. The students had

an opportunity to purchase fantastic books and other cool items during the Scholastic Book Fair week. All students were able to participate during their scheduled Media elective/special. They also shopped with their parents during our Scholastic Book Fair Family Night. Wings Plus and Pizza Carousel also hosted family nights to bring the community together and support our PTO.

As you head into the 2nd quarter, it’s exciting to see the commitment to academic excellence and the anticipation of more events to unite and engage the Coral Springs community. Wishing the Ram Family continued success and positivity for the rest of the school year!

This past month at Heron Heights Elementary has been filled with many accomplishments and memorable moments. We were thrilled to host a very special guest—the Stanley Cup—allowing students to experience a piece of sports history up close and create a core memory!

We also celebrated academic excellence by recognizing students who earned perfect scores on their PM 3 FAST Assessments. These young scholars have truly exemplified dedication and hard work.

In a wonderful display of school spirit, students and staff came together to create new tiles for our walls, adding more beauty and color to our campus. This creative project not

only showcases our artistic talents but also strengthens our sense of community and lets our students put their “mark” on our hallways!

Our extracurricular clubs are also gaining momentum. From Debate and Drone League to Lego Competition League, Cheerleading, Robotics, Chorus, and Violin, almost all of our clubs are up and running. We are excited to see our students explore their passions and develop new skills in these engaging programs.

It’s been an incredible month at Heron Heights, and we look forward to even more achievements in the months ahead!

Students continue to enjoy updates to the state-of-the-art school media center. Did you know Mrs. Elsemiller, our media specialist, recently earned

the prestigious Golden Library Award for our media center? This honor recognizes outstanding library media programs in Broward Country. Also, as we continue to embrace our school focus of STEAM, our robotics lab underwent a complete refurbishing and is encouraging students to create, explore and build with all the new updates and materials. Our design lab continues to challenge students to use their imagination as they create works of art and think outside of the box. And, as we do every year, we look forward to our amazing music winter concert which will celebrate many winter celebrations from around the world.

As we enter the winter months and look forward to more exciting school-wide events, Park Trails Elementary School has embraced our school theme this year by showing off our “Panther Pride”. With the school year well underway, I am excited to share some of the latest initiatives focused on enhancing educational opportunities and community engagement for our students.

SAT and ACT Prep Now Offered

For the first time last school year, the city offered subsidized SAT Prep Workshops to students who attended a Coral Springs High School or reside in the City of Coral Springs. Due to the popularity of the workshops, we are pleased to share that, in addition to SAT prep, ACT prep workshops have now been integrated as part of this year’s test prep offerings. High school students who are preparing to apply for college may participate in ACT Prep Workshops on Saturday, January 25 or Saturday, March 15, or they may take part in an SAT Prep Workshop on Saturday, February 22. The one-day intensive workshops take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Northwest Regional Library (3151 N. University Drive) and include lunch and snacks for just $20. We know how important these exams are, and we’re thrilled to offer Coral Springs students these tools for success.

Citywide School Spirit Day

We held our first-ever citywide School Spirit Day in October! All 20 public and private schools in Coral Springs participated in a celebration where students, teachers, and staff were encouraged to wear their school gear and show their school pride. To enhance the celebration, the city provided

more than 20,000 wristbands to schools to distribute to all students to keep and wear. The bands symbolized the strong bond between our schools and the community, linking our shared values and commitment to education.

Youth Ambassador Program

I am excited to share the launch of our first ever Youth Ambassador Program. After a competitive application process, which included submitting an essay and a one-minute video, we selected a diverse group of 12 passionate students from each of our area high schools, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas, which serves several Coral Springs students. The students are eager to serve as Youth Ambassadors for our city. These students will participate in leadership workshops, service projects, and community events, all while acting as liaisons to address issues affecting both schools and the broader community. I am hopeful that this program will not only deepen our ambassador’s sense of civic understanding but also grow them into strong future leaders.

I am proud to represent the Coral Springs community and to serve as a critical connection between city government, our schools, and our community. I look forward to keeping the community updated on future plans and progress.
