Dear Readers,
As another successful school year comes to an end, I hope your children had a wonderful and memorable year. Remember to thank your teachers, tutors, instructors, and coaches for all their hard work and dedication to your children this past year. A little thank you will certainly be appreciated.
Welcome Summer! Those long, lazy days of summer will soon be upon us. It’s a time for relaxed schedules, family vacations and of course, summer camp! As your children grow and mature this summer, they will develop new interests, talents and hobbies and will make new friends. Now is the perfect time to find the right camp, program, sports & activities that they can enjoy all summer long. Our cities have a whole host of camps, classes, sports & programs lined up for you this summer, and they are all right here in the pages ahead.
This issue features a variety of day camps, weekly camps, sports, activities and programs for children of all ages from preschoolers to teens. Page through our Main Directory for summer sports registrations (red tab) and our Summer Camp Directory for camp registrations (purple tab), where you will find many camps and summer programs to choose from. Maybe your child would like to take a new class or lesson this summer or play a new sport. It’s a great time for older kids to volunteer or maybe they are of age to become a camp counselor this year. The possibilities are endless. Whatever you choose to do this summer we hope it’s enriching, exciting, and fosters new interests. Summer camp provides a great way to create fun memories and make new friends, while keeping children’s minds, bodies, and spirits active and engaged.
The Sports & Activities Directory is a wealth of information to peak everyone’s interest. Find some local events to attend, catch a baseball game or concert, enjoy a theater performance, or fireworks for 4th of July. Create beautiful traditions and memories with your family, neighbors and friends… that’s what we are all about!
It is truly an honor to highlight and promote the thousands of activities, events, sports, organizations, and businesses, not to mention our youth athletes and coaches in the cities of Coral Springs & Parkland. My best to you,
Kim Kadel PublisherDear Parkland Residents,
As a City of Parkland resident, I am proud to say that we have achieved unprecedented successes as a community over the past 12 months. And, as mayor of our amazing City, I am pleased to share that more historical gains are on the horizon.
In early April, the City held its Strategic Planning Retreat, in which the City Commission and staff reviewed, updated, and reprioritized best practices for governance, in order to continue to insure our dynamic future. And in March, we hosted Parkland Day, which included a parade, a luncheon honoring the many volunteers that serve as a positive force in our community, and an evening of local entertainment, music, and great food.
In that same celebratory mode, I believe the accomplishments of the past year should be shared in person. I will host State of the City 2024 at 6:00 p.m. on May 22, at 6600 University Drive – a culminating event that shines the spotlight on how our leadership and vision continue to inform our strong sense of community and drive our flourishing economy.
During State of the City 2024, I will share an update on Loxahatchee Road improvements, a monumental project that has temporarily changed our navigational rhythms but will be well worth it in the long run. And this year, we also heard directly from you. After holding two public outreach meetings in January, the City and our conceptual design partners know more about what residents want in our new premier commercial property where families can explore, dine, and enjoy upscale amenities during their free time.
I will also talk about a large-scale drainage improvement project that will take place in a few areas in the City. We are using a large portion of our $17 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant funding to improve our infrastructure.
And we cannot forget that design plans are underway for Wedge Preserve Park, which will change and enhance the scope of outdoor recreation in our community – a park concept that is sure to be family-focused and kid-approved.
I am inspired by our City’s progress. Mark your calendar and make plans to spend the evening with us later this month, as we learn more about the projects and improvements that will positively impact our life experiences for years to come.
Use your smartphone to scan the QR code and RSVP to the City of Parkland’s State of the City 2024.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Your Parkland Mayor, Rich Walker
Dear Coral Springs Citizens and Businesses, May is Mental Health Awareness Month! It is such an important recognition of an important issue that is often viewed as taboo. As the Mayor, one of my top priorities is Mental Health. It is one of the reasons the Commission and I have regular Move With the Mayor events. While these events with me and our awesome Commission are physical, we believe that getting out, connecting and exercising is a great way to lift the mental health of the community.
Ever since our community tragedy on February 14, 2018 and Covid, so many people have suffered with anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses. In the City, we strongly believe that it is essential to seek help and that it is OK to NOT be OK. I went through my own period of depression after I lost my Dad 8 years ago. It was TOUGH! Thankfully, I was committed to heal and had the help of my family, some dear friends, my therapist, God and exercise to help me get through. So, if you are seeking solutions, 2-1-1 has many resources. We have wonderful resources in our community.
I am grateful that I have been able to host mental health roundtables throughout the State as the President of the Florida League of Mayors. Lately, I visited cities in the Panhandle as well as Neptune Beach and met with Mayors so they can also open up the mental health dialogue in their communities. I am hopeful that we can all help one another and also place a special emphasis on our children. I will be hosting another Community Conversation down the road. To get more information or to get engaged with the local mental health movement, please text me at 954-494-9872. This past year our Commission has participated in Pickleball, Flag Football, Yoga, Dance, Kickball and many other activities. We are committed to an Active and Healthy Community. If you have ideas for us to engage with you, please email me at Sbrook@coralsprings.gov. For a list of all of our events, including our awesome family gatherings at the City Hall Lawn with live music, please visit www.coralsprings.gov.
I hope you and your families have a wonderful conclusion to the school year and a healthy and happy Summer. It is my pleasure and honor to serve you and your children. Please look for me and connect with me on Social Media at CSCommissioner1.
Sincerely,
Mayor Scott J. Brook
YOUR FAMILY LOVE LETTER MAY INCLUDE:
• Wills (locations and attorney/ lawyers and accountants contact information)
• Family contact information
• Computer Passwords/ Password “Keeper” information (including digital assets)
• Key contact information
• Employers and benefits
• Banks/brokerage statements/ financial advisors
• Insurance Policies (agents, policy numbers, carrier phone numbers, face amounts, etc.)
• Statements of ethics
• Funeral requests
Financial planning is just as much a business about your “people,” as it is about your money.
The “Family Love Letter” is one of the easiest yet most important things you can do for the people you love and a valuable complement to your overall financial wellness. It is a simple and intuitive document that communicates the vital information your loved ones will need once you are no longer able to tell them. Many people, however, never compiled this information into a single, easy to access document because it is simply too upsetting to think about.
At times, even the most thorough financial and estate plans fail to leave behind correct and complete information for their families. Without clarity of desire and specificity of information, families may experience unnecessary difficulties,
overlook unknown assets or make costly mistakes. It should be part of your financial planning process because part of planning for the future is making sure the people you love have what they need. A Family Love Letter is more than simply a list of account names and numbers, it can contain specific information -- like where a safety deposit box key can be found - or it can include a personal message of comfort and reassurance.
Many of our clients have found this tool to be a significant part of their overall planning. Ask us, your own financial advisor, or CPA or attorney to assist you to create this “inventory” of your key information, assets, insurances, and other property. Please contact us to get your own template, ask questions, or to schedule a meeting a for a cup of coffee and second opinion (Never with a fee or obligation).

The Raider Nation is representing our community in some magnificent capacities as we head to the end of the school year. Our Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders Group, (MTL), lead by teacher-sponsor, Ms Washington-Collins, led the Pledge of Allegiance at the City of Coral Springs’ Commission Meeting on Wednesday, April 3rd. The City Commission graciously hosted our MTL Chapter, the largest Middle School Chapter in Broward Schools, and listened to the “5 Pillars” of service which guides our leaders of tomorrow.
Our Social Studies Department partnered with the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) to conduct an “American Revolution Brochure” contest. Our students took places 1, 2, & 3 in the State-wide entry list. The Debate program, led by Coach Paradis, earned over 17 medals, a school record, at the latest MSD Middle School Debate Tournament on April 4th.
The Raider Band & Chorus continues its streak of straight Superiors in their District & State Performances under the tutelage of Ms. Jock & Mr. Nista. We have been blessed with the leadership of legendary Band Director Mr John Nista here at Ramblewood for over 28 Years! He has impacted the lives of countless aspiring musicians and fostered the importance of the Performing Arts to so many more over his tenure. Our school and school community wish Mr. Nista nothing but the best in his next “concert series” titled Retirement. Thank you Mr. Nista for your hard work and dedication to our students over your illustrious career, you will be missed here on campus, but your legacy will play on forever.

The summer is upon us. It is both an exciting and stressful time, especially if you are planning on traveling with small children. They are extremely curious, have high energy and require a great deal of supervision or “parenting.” Here is a practical guide to enjoying your family travels, creating lasting memories, and raising adventurous children.
Before Traveling: Start talking about the trip with your child weeks or months before. Utilize pictures or read them stories about airplanes or other activities you might be doing. If possible, plan to stay in places similar to your home. Instead of at a hotel, you may stay in an apartment where the child can keep routines like playing or taking a nap.
Train your child to be patient. Vacation trips often include a lot of waiting (e.g., boarding airplanes). One way to increase patience is to use a “First/Then” interaction style. When your child asks for their tablet around a meal time, you would reply, “first you need to eat, then you can earn your tablet.” The goal is to be concise and clear: First this, then that. When your child completes your request, you would immediately give them the promised reward. This will create the expectation that following times when you say “first,” they will trust you to comply. Establish
this dynamic before traveling.
During the Trip: When traveling with young children embrace empathy and flexibility. Empathy to understand that children will become exhausted from traveling. Flexibility to stay calm and content even when plans need to be altered from your original goal. Flexibility in scheduling is important to allow for resting moments: for children and yourselves!
Remember to reinforce positive behavior. When your child is quiet, tell them, “I like it when you are calm and playing with your toys.” At times, if your children do not receive your attention when they behave well, they can find less appropriate ways to get it.
Another very effective strategy is to save their favorite toy for critical moments. For example, if your child loves to play on your phone, save it fort moments when they must be calm (i.e., passport checking).
After the Trip: Every trip can become a learning opportunity. Take time to revisit the trip memories with your child. Consistently reinforce for behaving well and continue applying the “first/then” technique. These strategies will improve their behavior each time, and your vacations will be increasingly enjoyable.

Are you looking for a middle school in the Coral Springs area to meet the instructional and social emotional needs of your scholar? Are you interested in a dynamic Cambridge Program that prepares students for high school and beyond? Are you seeking a school environment where your child will be and feel safe? Are you looking for a school that will invite you in as a decision-making stakeholder? Look no further than Forest Glen Middle School! FGMS is welcoming new students and their families for the 2024-2025 school year! Come be apart of the Wildcat family.
Let’s talk safety. FGMS has a full staff of campus monitors, a security specialist, and a School Resource Officer (SRO). Not to mention, several adult wildcats who are always willing to help. Wildcats follow a structured daily schedule that includes time for instruction, electives, and lunch. Staff carefully monitor students from arrival to dismissal. The staff at FGMS take an “all hands-on deck” approach to ensure that everyone on our campus is safe and secure every minute of the school day. Students can always locate an adult for any kind of assistance at all times. Safety applications like Fortify and Alyssa’s Alert are also options students, parents, and staff know they can use to report safety concerns or information.
Let’s talk academics. FGMS utilizes the Florida B.E.S.T standards as the driving force behind curriculum to provide students with top tier educational experiences. Wildcat students have the option to become Cambridge students by participating in a rigorous
program that prepares them to be confident, responsible, reflective, innovative, and engaged learners. Through the Cambridge program, students are engaged in strategic, well-planned lessons that improve their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Cambridge students learn how to approach global issues, write 500-word essays by the time they matriculate to high school, and become successful researchers and presenters.
Let’s talk athletics. Wildcat students have the luxury of participating in cheerleading, flag football, track and field, soccer, floorball, volleyball, and basketball each school year. Because FGMS recognizes that academics come first, each athlete must meet academic and behavior requirements to be eligible to play any sport. Passionate coaches and talented wildcats always display their wildcat pride each and every school year!
Let’s talk family. FGMS students are not just students, they are part of the family. When parents drop or send their students to school each day, they want to know that their child is cared for physically, mentally, and emotionally and the staff at FGMS makes sure of this. Every student is heard, seen, and valued. FGMS’ PTO invites all parents and guardians to join the team as they make magic happen every school year for students and staff. No event on campus is complete without the support of our wildcat families.
If you are interested in taking a tour of the FGMS campus and learning about all we have to offer, please call us at 754-322-3400. We are located at 6501 Turtle Run Boulevard, Coral Springs, Florida. We look forward to making you part of our family!
The past few months have been very busy at Riverglades. The launch of our enrichment programs this year has been very successful, and students have been able to participate in Flag Football, Basketball, Pottery, Painting, YouTube Creators, Graphic Design, Science, Gardening, Fashion Design, Photography, and Coding. We look forward to this program continuing to grow. In March, Riverglades students held a very successful Kid’s Heart Challenge to raise money for the American Heart Association. In April, we also had our Spring book fair, Spring pictures, and STEM night. Our gardening initiative has also been growing throughout the year, and brand-new gardening beds were installed for our vegetable garden. The Riverglades Media Center also got a make over as brand-new murals have been installed. Another very important addition to campus is our brand-new security hut for our front gate, which was made possible due to a generous donation from Make Our Schools Safe and the entire Riverglades community is incredibly grateful.
Riverglades will host another Kindergarten Round Up on May 1st and we invite all new students for the next school year to come learn more about our wonderful school. The final FAST testing window of the year is 5/1-5/16 and
our teachers are working hard to make sure their students are prepared to do their best. We’ll be celebrating our amazing teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week 5/6-5/10. Then Riverglades’ Creative Arts Night is on 5/17. Our PTA and parent volunteers have been working diligently to prepare for this big event and we invite all our families to participate.
As the school year draws to a close our Pre-Kindergarteners will graduate on May 31st and our 5th graders will mark the end of their time with us at Riverglades with graduation on June 5th and 6th and will complete their celebration with a 5th Grade Dance on June 7th. The last day of school will be June 10th.
While the academic standards at Riverglades are very high, we encourage all our Gator families to get involved with as many extracurricular activities and events as possible, as our administration and teachers strive to strengthen our community and develop our students into well-rounded kids of character. Anyone with a child at Riverglades is invited to join our PTA for more ways to get involved and volunteer. Simply go to www.RivergladesPTA.com

F or two decades, ChessArt has made an indelible mark in education, utilizing chess and art for the cognitive and creative development of young minds. As we celebrate this milestone, it’s crucial to reflect on the benefits of these programs. Chess, know as the “Royal Game” is foundational in ChessArt’s educational approach. Beyond being a game, it teaches critical skills like decisionmaking and problem-solving. Plus, it enhances academic performance and fostering concentration and self-confidence.
Our art program is equally vital in a student’s holistic development. Through creative expression, they explore imagination and develop artistic skills beyond the canvas. By improving problem solving, self-expression, self-esteem and promoting cultural appreciation and diversity. Over these 20 years, ChessArt has witnessed countless success stories where students have thrived due to their commitment to chess and art. Looking to the future, we are confident in continuing to transform lives and pave the way for a brighter future. Here’s to many more years of success and growth help students!

We are a part-time preschool that provides our students (ages 18 months through PreK 4 & 5’s) with a nurturing Christian environment. We have karate once a month for all ages and we never stop moving in our two playgrounds – one for our twos and another for our older children. The playgrounds are a large, beautiful, covered area that allow us to have fun activities outside. You will notice that we are a very busy school with lots of events inside the classroom as well as school and church wide.
