Dear Valued Readers, As we approach the end of this eventful year, our hearts are filled with warmth and gratitude for your unwavering support and readership. In the spirit of togetherness, we wanted to take a moment to focus on the upcoming end-of-year celebrations, the joy of winter events, and the promise of a new year ahead. End-of-Year Celebrations: The holiday season is a time for reflection, gratitude, and spending precious moments with loved ones. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, or another cultural festivity, these occasions remind us of the importance of family, friendship, and spreading joy. Winter Activities: The winter season offers a unique charm with its snowcovered landscapes, cozy fireside moments, and the excitement of outdoor activities. Whether you’re a sports fan of soccer, lacrosse, softball, rugby, or track, now is the time to register for this season’s sports or try something new. We encourage you to embrace these winter activities to uplift your spirits and create lasting memories. And for those who may not favor colder weather, it’s a good opportunity to curl up by the window with a good book while sipping a warm drink. The New Year Ahead: With the new year upon us, there’s a sense of renewal and a fresh start. It’s an opportunity to set new goals, make resolutions, and plan for the future. As we look forward to 2024, let’s do so with optimism and a renewed commitment towards personal growth, health, and well-being. Let’s remember to show kindness towards ourselves and others. Reach out to those in need, continue to support each other, and make an effort to work together to create a brighter, more inclusive future. In the coming year, we, at Sports and Activities Directory, are committed to delivering quality content that is informative, inspirational, and full of entertainment for your family. We take pride in being a community resource, offering sports, activities, interesting articles and community insights. Thank you for being an integral part of our community. Dear Readers, ACTIVITIES GALORE AND WISHES FOR A HAPPY HOLIDAY I hope this letter finds all of our residents and visitors well. As the Mayor of the beautiful City of Weston, Florida, it is my privilege and pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to you and your families for the upcoming holiday season. The holiday season is a time for reflection, gratitude, and coming together as a community. It is also a time when we celebrate the joy and happiness that our parks and recreational facilities bring to the lives of our residents. Our parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and community center are essential to the well-being and quality of life of our residents, providing a space for recreation, relaxation, and socialization. In Weston, we are fortunate to have a dedicated Parks & Recreation Department that works tirelessly to maintain and enhance our parks and facilities. Their commitment to providing top-notch programming and maintaining our green spaces is truly commendable. As we approach the holiday season, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our award-winning Parks & Recreation team, along with the Arts Council of Greater Weston, and all those who contribute to making Weston a wonderful place to live and visit. It is their dedication and hard work that make our parks come alive during the holidays and throughout the year. I also encourage our residents and visitors to take full advantage of the exciting holiday events and other activities that our city has planned for November, December, and January. From a Holiday Pops Concert at Town Center- to Moonlight Movies in the Park, the Annual Rotary Run for Tomorrow and The Commission Cup Health Walk, and Celebrate the Arts Day, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. We encourage you to visit our Events Calendar on the City website at WestonFL.org/Events. We have had an extremely productive year, including the passage of our fiscal year 2024 budget with no increase in the City millage rate for the sixth consecutive year while maintaining the same high-quality services that our residents desire and expect. Weston’s millage (tax) rate also remains the lowest in Broward County. Residents are encouraged to view the budget on our City website and ask any questions you might have on your tax bill as staff and your Commission worked hard to maintain a low tax rate. As a reminder, the portion paid to the City is less than 50% of your overall tax bill. The remaining amount of your taxes are paid to: Broward County, Broward Public Schools, Independent Districts, Children’s Services Council, and the Hospital District. Let us know if you have any questions. In November, almost 200 public and private schools will participate in the Annual Harvest Drive that was initiated over 30 years ago by local volunteers, with Country Isles Elementary School as the original distribution site. Harvest Drive provides a complete Thanksgiving meal and a week’s worth of grocery and personal necessities to over 2,400 food-insecure families in Broward County. Please do what you can to help children help other children, so no child goes hungry. Visit Harvestdriveflorida.com. The City of Weston will host a Holiday Food Drive in the Park for Harvest Drive on November 4th from Noon until 7:30 p.m. Just drive up to the Weston Community Center inside Weston Regional Park and drop off canned or boxed food donations. It’s an opportunity for all of us to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it most. During the holidays, we stress vigilance to not leave valuables in vehicles, and to always lock car doors and take your key fob with you. Weston is a safe community, but whether you are running into the gym, dropping a child at daycare, or pumping gas, remember to – Lock it, Don’t Lose it. I extend my warmest wishes to the readers of Weston Sports & Activities Directory for a joyful and peaceful holiday season. May the spirit of togetherness and the magic of the holidays fill your hearts and homes. All my best,

Margaret ‘Peggy’ Brown

“Off my meds!” “Down 13 pounds in 21 days!” “I’m better than ever!”

These words echo through homes and communities of our guests and members, ecstatic with the life-altering excitation flowing through their bodies lighting up every cell with the voltage of human excellence. Consider this. Your physical struggle is reversible, your disease is fixable, and weight loss resistance is simply a transmutable blockage you can eliminate with a simple Metabolic Reboot. At Biohackers. WHAT IS BIOHACKERS? We’re a 6,000 square foot wonderland where the worlds of medicine and wellness, fitness and regeneration, find a pinnacle of effectiveness. Our programs hasten the reversal of physical degeneration, biological aging, and chronic disease. In simple language, “we make people better.” What people? Moms, entrepreneurs, executives, athletes, salespeople, teachers, and in all likelihood more than 65% of the Weston Community. 65% of American adults have been “labeled” with a chronic disease. Nobody told them it was reversible. Until now. WHAT IS THE “HUMAN BETTERMENT SECRET?” The key to reigniting your best self lies in learning to access an innate power you’ve had all along. This “power” is the force that allows fractures to repair, tissue to regenerate, and wounds to become memories. It’s the lifeforce miracle that allows an inflamed toe

or elbow to “return to normal.” Hippocrates was aware of nature’s human gift. As medicine evolved into a confusing maze of procedures, treatments, and prescriptions, it moved away from its “healing” roots. The Power we release involves two key biological systems most Americans inadvertently neglect. Together they create homeostasis, a divine biological symphony stimulating stem cell activity, tissue repair, hormonal repatterning, and reversal of inflammation (the root cause of chronic disease). My name is Phil Kaplan. I’ve been a fitness industry leader for decades with a long-time attachment to Weston (since 1989 when its residents were alligators). In 2019, with mastery of disease reversal through nutrition, mindset, and movement, I met Dr. Kristin Comella, world-renowned expert in Regenerative Medicine. The ground shook. We joined forces. Now, using age-old healing strategies, nutritional innovations, and breakthroughs in science, human regeneration, age-reversal, and Biohacking (you’ll see when you visit), we’ve stepped into a realm where people become better. It’s your turn. We’re on the cusp of national growth with aspirations to go global by 2025. Right now, we’re here, in Weston. Call or email to schedule a complimentary experience, allowing you to understand how to bring about remarkable results and to “feel better” in minutes. Your best life is in front of you. Claim your power. FREE EXPERIENCE! CALL 954 384-7227! or visit biohackersfitness.com.

The Weston Music Society (WMS) brought in a string quartet from the Symphony of the Americas to four Weston elementary schools and the outcome was magical. The string quartet concert consisted of two violins, a viola and a cello which played for Everglades elementary, Gator Run elementary, Country Isles and Imagine Charter schools. Our goal has been to have all the elementary schools in Weston enjoy this fun, free concert. “Many students play an instrument, but they may not have had the opportunity to experience a live ensemble and have the musicians explain how their instruments work.” said Christy Blackford VP of education for The Weston Music Society. The concert started out with the string quartet from the Symphony of the Americas performing a well-known tune and then they explained how the violin creates its beautiful sound. Then, the quartet played a piece featuring the violin. The violin began by playing solo and then the rest of the ensemble joined in. By comparing the solo instrument with the whole ensemble, the students were really able to hear how the four instruments were working together to create this beautiful musical tapestry. “It was nice because the musicians explained their instruments and how smaller instruments have higher pitches and the larger instruments have lower pitches. It was interesting to hear the violin playing solo and then together with the group. “We were

really happy to recognize some of the pieces that the musicians played,” said Sebastian Berrizbeitia, a student from from Country Isles Elementary School. The WMS knows that the students enjoy hearing familiar pieces of music, and that they enjoy learning about how the instruments work together to create the beautiful sounds that make music together. We are happy to be able to offer such a wonderful educational experience to our students. “Whether children decide to play an instrument for fun or seriously, playing an instrument is a wonderful developmental tool for the brain. It’s very expressive and music has been proven to improve cognitive abilities such as memory, attention and overall brain development,” explains Christy Blackford. “We don’t usually host concerts. This was amazing because this concert came to the school and I got to enjoy it with my friends,” said Sebastian Berrizbeitia, a student from Country Isles Elementary School.

O

n October 4th, marked the anniversary when we had a leadership change at Imagine Weston. I am very proud of the accomplishments that we have made here to our campus. With improving our staff culture, strengthening our relationships with our stakeholders and community as well as the improvements here at campus both with curriculum and infrastructure. Since the beginning, one of the most important things for me was to build a leadership team that made up of a diverse group of individuals. One of the best decisions that I made was to asked Mrs. Arnott to take this journey with me as Assistant Principal. I found someone that I can trust: a loyal confidant. We are doing this together. To being able to be on that path -serving the community- with her it’s terrific. I am very proud that our leadership team is homegrown, meaning every single person that sits on the leadership team, our Assistant Principal, our Dean, our Guidance Counselor, ESE specialist, Academic Coach are all formers teachers of the building. Relationships are key not only for our staff and students but also for the parents to have familiar faces serving as a leaders at school. The other piece that is really important is how we go about our business as far as being kind, supportive, making sure we get back to our stakeholders with answers. Leading with professionalism and most important with the heart, putting students first. As far as some of the big changes. We feel that the campus needed a different look. Although, the campus was thriving as far as having high levels of success, but when you look around there were opportunities to be enhanced. I wanted to give the students and staff a place where they can feel proud so we kind tackle areas that are use more often than others. We start doing campus beautification projects on high touch points like the front office and cafeteria. In the cafeteria we did a couple of different things. We allow our staff to use quotes from diverse leaders to inspire students. For the other wall, we made a survey to see where our families descendent upon so we put flags on a map to signify where our families are coming from to celebrate our diversity. We have 83 nationalities so far. Also, we had a successful fundraiser event with APEX with the support of the PTP. We were able to bring in a new athletic facility; brand new basketball courts and soccer goals to truly give the campus that special place where students again can feel proud. We will continu with our goals, we have plans this summer to purchase brand new desks for each classroom as well and outdoor airnasium. The work never stops! Another area that I felt that we needed to work on was our relationship with our PTP (Parent Teacher Partnership), there were areas where are communication and our vision were not aligned

so one of the things that we did early on was to meet with leaders at the PTP to align each purpose. We are so fortunate to have the support from our families to make sure that if the school falls short as far of initiatives or funding, the PTP is able to assist and they have been amazing partners. On the other hand, last year we created a task force with parents and staff to look at our middle school. We noticed some of our student were staying for elementary and then suddenly decided to go to the neighborhood schools for middle school. We wanted them to stay. We had a great program here, but we needed to market it. We have to look out what kind of electives some of the others middle schools were offering and see if can not only meet that but exceeded and we did it! We brought eleven new elective choices this school year. Including Law, Speech and Debate, E-SPORTS, HOSA, Financial Literacy. Now our students have different opportunities with regards to their educational pathways. The other thing that we are very proud about is that we applied to become a Cambridge Candidate School. So, we are looking about bring on the Cambridge Program to Imagine Weston next year, to really offer a world class education. We plan to apply it to the entire school, K-8. Initially, we are going to do a pilot for a few grade levels. Here in Weston our feeder High Schools offer the Cambridge program as well, so being able to have it here, at Imagine Weston, and provide the students that opportunity is tremendous. On the other hand, we were being pioneers when we talk about the bilateral program, high achievers opportunities, Spanish school credits in Middle School. We wanted to reflect what the community in Weston wants and needs in education. Lastly, the thing that we are most proud about is that this past year, we were named National School of the Year. There are 49 schools in the Imagine network so to be designated top school is a tremendous achievement, not for me or for the entire staff more importantly the student and families. The voting criteria is made of up of several categories which include student performance, economic sustainability and academic data. We are going to wear that crown proudly and we are excited on what is to come and continue to improve. We changed a lot in a one calendar year but there is still more to come. We want to continue to grow Imagine Weston to make it the best possible school that it can be. We know that here in Weston there are different school options, but what separate us from others is the family feel. It is really about the staff and how they develop this culture of family. Also, the parents play a big role because they have the same values at home as far as family, the importance of respect, character and education, so we have a like minded community that wants the school to succeed. We are just a big family!

TUTORING SERVICES KUMON MATH AND READING CENTER Weston-Saddle Club Road. Kumon is the best learning program ever developed, and very different from your child’s regular school experience because of 4 pillars that guide us with each student: 1. individually designed learning; 2. learning challenges that advance exactly in line with your student’s timing; 3. learning by doing, not listening; 4. instructors who support, students who think. Your child’s special gifts and talents, and even your child’s individual needs, can get lost in a class of 30. But not at Kumon!! That’s why Kumon is cherished in almost 60 countries. A Colorful Fiesta: Noche Hispana is a fiesta like no other, where the colors, flavors, and rhythms of Latina America take center stage. The event offered a diverse range of Latin musical genres that cater to all tastes.

Delicious Gastronomy: One cannot talk about Noche Hispana without mentioning the mouthwatering cuisine.
