Summer’s here! What seasonal skincare changes should we be making to our routines?

Use lighter products in a serum form and not a heavy cream or gel formulations, which tend to be more occlusive and can block the pores, especially in the summer heat. Be sure to wear a sunscreen every day with an SPF of 30 or higher. Take an oral antioxidant, like Resveratrol, or use a topical antioxidant on your skin; decrease the use of retinol products and alpha hydroxy acid products, which may cause irritation as you’re exposed to the sun.

Is foundation with SPF enough coverage?

It’s not as effective as using a sunscreen in addition to that on top of your foundation. Use a mineral type or a physical blocker type sunscreen that contains iron oxide or titanium oxide.

How do we balance being in the sun to keep our vitamin D levels high with

Dr. Neil Sadick protecting our skin? If you’re following a normal diet, you shouldn’t be vitamin D deficient, regardless of whether you go in the sun or not. Mild sun exposure and using adequate sun protection is the way to ensure you won’t have vitamin D depletion.

Most want to look their best at every age. What are some ways to achieve this?

Limit sun exposure, especially during peak hours. Be sure to use products that protect the skin barrier and stimulate new collagen production via advanced cosmeceuticals or by using laser and radio-frequency technologies, which promote skin cell turnover.

For millennials who are just starting to think about injectables and procedures, what should they know?

The truth is that it’s much easier to prevent aging than reverse aging of the skin. You can start with some light Botox treatments/volumizing fillers, which will stabilize fat pads and ligaments without causing you to have a “blown up” type of appearance. That will also help to slow the aging process.

Is there an age that’s too young to start cosmetic treatments?

There’s no perfect or right age to start these treatments because each person is unique.

What’s the secret to not getting asymmetrical eyebrows or heavy lids when getting Botox?

This is usually caused by an individual’s response to Botox and not using the right dosage for the area treated. Be sure you choose a skilled physician.

What are you most excited about at your practice now?

Combination technologies that are used for both facial and whole-body rejuvenation. The ability to lessen the aging process with cosmeceuticals, toxins, fillers, and radiofrequency technologies is a key developmental advance. Most important, the ability to start these programs early to aid in age prevention. This keeps my patients healthy and youthfullooking their entire lives. T
