Updates Around
the
Parks
Every year the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department makes park improvements by upgrading or adding new amenities to existing facilities. The following park improvements are planned for 2018.
• Tree Inventory and Management: The St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department's tree inventory is complete. Our online inventory website allows you to explore our parks and learn about the number of trees in a particular park, the types of trees and the benefits they have. Funding of this project was provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation. To learn more visit: https://stcharlesmo.treekeepersoftware.com • Fish Habitat and Surveys: We are currently working with the Missouri Department of Conservation to improve fishing at Fountain Lakes Park. This past winter an additional habitat was created by submerging trees in areas of the Skate Park Lake. In May, 2018, the lakes were surveyed for fish species and abundance in order to get more information on how to best treat these lakes to improve fishability over time. • LED Replacement at Memorial Hall: Memorial Hall is in the process of converting over to an all LED lighting system. This project will provide longer lasting, energy saving lighting options throughout the facility. • Park Signage Updates: In 2017, the departmental signage program was initiated and has since completed park entrance and way-finding signs at Blanchette, Heatherbrook and Webster Park. This year, Wapelhorst Park and Oak Grove Cemetery will be the next to receive signage updates.

MURRAY AWARD
The newest addition to our City's trail system was completed earlier this year! The Centennial Greenway features two pedestrian bridges that cross over Highway 364 and 94. These two bridges provide a safe means for people to walk, run or ride their bike over the busy highways allowing them the opportunity to explore their community as well as neighboring communities. The .7 mile addition to the existing 2 mile trail connects people to Wapelhorst Park, the Katy Trail, historic Main Street in St. Charles, the Missouri River, St. Peters Heritage Park and the Creve Coeur Connector Trail that takes you across the Missouri River. The City of St. Charles and the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department was presented with the inaugural Murray Award from Great Rivers Greenway during the Centennial Greenway's ribbon cutting ceremony on April 7, 2018. The award is in memory of Mike Murray, and recognizes nonprofit, municipal, government or corporate partners that go above and beyond the call of duty to contribute to the mission of Great Rivers Greenway. It was an extreme honor to receive this award and to be recognized for the collaboration Explore this new and efforts taken to make this project a success. trail with us during our

While out and about in the parks, the Ranger Division would like to remind you of a few safety tips and rules for everyone to have the most enjoyable experience: • Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle in plain sight of others. Properly secure your belongings or leave them at home. • While exercising in the parks, carry a cell phone or have a buddy join you. • The speed limit within all parks is 15mph. Be vigilant and watch for pedestrians. • Please be sure that all fires within a BBQ pit are extinguished prior to leaving. • Dogs are required to be on a leash at all times and owners are responsible for removing pet waste. • Motorized vehicles may only be used on designated roadways and parking lots. • Please be courteous to other park visitors by picking up your litter and avoid disruptive behavior. • Keep It Close - keeping your phone close can not only save your life in an emergency, but also aid in saving the lives of others.
