Director's Note

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer and spending time in the Parks exploring the variety of things happening. From picnics to playgrounds, swimming to softball, there are many ways to enjoy being outdoors.

Did you know the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Foundation exists to support the Parks and Recreation Department? Through many projects such as the Lewis and Clark Statue or continued development of the St. Charles Soccer Complex, the Foundation has helped improve and maintain our system since 1984. They also have a gifting program you can honor or memorialize a friend, family member or loved one. Through the gift of trees or benches in any park, you can leave a legacy for many generations to enjoy. Playground fence posts at Jaycee Park’s Discovery Playground or a brick paver at the Lewis and Clark Statue in Frontier Park assists with ongoing maintenance costs of these distinct amenities to the City of St. Charles. We appreciate a great partnership with the Foundation to keep our system growing and strong! Look for more information about the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Foundation and how you can help on page 5. While you are out and about in the Parks during any season, don’t forget to snap a few pictures and share them with us. We are always looking for folks enjoying the parks willing to share their experiences for future PLAY brochures or other promotional materials. Using social media platforms, tag your photo #STCParks so we can follow you in your park adventures. As always, it is our pleasure serving the St. Charles Community and we welcome any feedback to make the Parks the best they can be. Enjoy the rest of your summer and we’ll see you in the Parks, an Extension of Your Own Backyard!

Parks

While out and about in the parks, the Ranger Division would like to remind you of a few safety tips and rules for everyone to have the most enjoyable experience: • Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle in plain sight of others. Properly secure your belongings or leave them at home. • While exercising in the parks, carry a cell phone or have a buddy join you. • The speed limit within all parks is 15mph. Be vigilant and watch for pedestrians. • Please be sure that all fires within a barbecue pit are extinguished prior to leaving. • Dogs are required to be on a leash at all times and owners are responsible for removing pet waste. • Motorized vehicles may only be used on designated roadways and parking lots. • Please be courteous to other park visitors by picking up your litter and avoid disruptive behavior. • Keep It Close - keeping your phone close can not only save your life in an emergency, but also aid in saving the lives of others.

To report a suspicious person, activity or vehicle of concern, call the St. Charles Police/Ranger Dispatch at 636-949-3309. We appreciate all eyes and ears within the parks and welcome comments. General observations can be made by calling the Parks and Recreation Administration Office at 636-949-3372. For immediate emergency response to report fire, medical emergency, or a crime in progress, dial 911.

Updates Around

the

Parks

Each year the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department makes park improvements by upgrading or adding new amenities to existing facilities. The following park improvements are planned for 2019.

• Park Signage Updates: The department plans to continue updating park signage. This year, improvements are scheduled for McNair Park, where you will soon see new entrance monuments and wayfinding signs as efforts continue to make all the signage throughout our parks consistent, up-to-date, clear, and helpful. • Restroom Rehab Efforts: Regularly scheduled updates will hit riverfront parks this year, including the Blanchette Landing Boat Ramp, DuSable Park's Bales Area, Regot Area and Dog Park. These restrooms will receive floor treatments, paint updates, along with other new fixtures and finishings updates as needed. • Little Libraries: This spring we've expanded the Little Library program with 4 new locations thanks to help and donations from Jefferson Intermediate School - Jefferson Cares Group and the St. Charles County Library Foundation. These Little Libraries are wooden cabinets that house books for park visitors to take, read, and bring back as they wish. This year, Little Libraries were added at the Wapelhorst Park playground, McNair Park Daycamp playground, Fox Hill Park, and Vogt Brothers Park, to add to three previous sites at the McNair Park Braille Trail, Blanchette Park Administration Office, and Jaycee Park. • Memorial Hall Roof Improvements: This year we will be updating the roofing at Memorial Hall in Blanchette Park. The Hall will have it's 14,000 square foot roof improved with new 50-year architectural shingles and updated gutters, and new windows in the American Legion Room and VFW Room to help protect the department's most rented and used indoor facility. 16 | PLAY

Complete details of a program’s policies, procedures and guidelines are sometimes omitted from this brochure due to space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding should these situations arise.

Scholarships The St. Charles Parks and Recreation Foundation provides funds to either children or adult CITY RESIDENTS who cannot financially afford a recreation program or trip participation fee. One scholarship amount per family per brochure is granted. For more information call (636)949-3372.

We Welcome Persons of All Abilities If you or a family member have a disability (of any variety, mild to severe, temporary or lifelong, diagnosed or suspected) and you would like to learn what we do to provide an “equally effective opportunity to participate” in our recreation programs, please contact Brita Weight, our Inclusion Coordinator at (314)359-9970 or recreation4uall@yahoo.com. Brita will work with you to determine the specific needs of the individual wanting to participate and then, in partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department, we will put into place a plan for successful participation, based on those specific needs. Don’t hesitate to call. We look forward to getting to know you and working with you.
