Director's Note

Emerging from the snowy, cold winter, we are eager to see the vibrant colors of spring pop up around the Parks as flowers and trees wake up from their long nap. Just as Mother Nature rings the alarm for the new season, Parks and Recreation Staff are ready to welcome you into a busy year of activities and improvements. Here’s a sneak peak of a few things in 2019.

Have you picked up your new Parks Passport card yet? The newly issued card is valid from January 2019 through December 31, 2020 for residents of the City of St. Charles. Many discounts for our facilities and local businesses are too good to pass up. Best of all, the Parks Passport Card is free. Family schedules are complex between work and activities so we’re going to extend the hours of our Administration Office in May and June to help accommodate. On the adjacent page, you will find the full details of the Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings we will be open. These additional hours are a great opportunity to renew your Season Aquatics Pass, pay for Day Camp or reserve a facility. New activity line ups this year are sure to peak your interest. How about learning to ride a 3 wheeled motorcycle in the Can-Am Rider Education Program? This class provides, upon successful completion, certification for your 3 wheel motorcycle license endorsement. Do your kids love Legos? Two different types of Lego Camps will be offered this summer for various ages letting your child’s imagination create and build masterpieces. Our favorite events are right around the corner as well with Woofs for Wellness in April, Dive-in Movie in July and Food Truck events every other month beginning in April. A little bit of something for everyone! Whether swimming, riding, sliding or picnicking, we hope you and your family are able to get out and enjoy all that your parks and recreation department has to offer as an Extension of Your Own Backyard!

As part of the City's commitment to improving the health and safety of publicly maintained trees, the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded a Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance (TRIM) grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Take a fun and unique tour of the Braille Trail in McNair Park with one of our Park Horticulturists. They will be sharing gardening and lawn care tips, identifying plants and trees and answering questions along the way. Please keep in mind there will be an ample amount of walking involved on this tour. FRIDAY, MAY 10TH Time: 10:00A - 11:00A | FREE FOR EVERYONE! Last year our department used funds from the grant to create a digital tree inventory along with a management plan. In 2019 the TRIM grant funds will be used in combination with the tree inventory to target unhealthy and hazardous trees for pruning and removal purposes, in order to provide a healthier and safer tree canopy in our City parks.
