DIRECTOR'S NOTE Hello Friends, We have missed all our program participants, school picnics, sports leagues, laughter from the playgrounds and events this spring! Over the last few months, we hope everyone has stayed healthy and safe practicing all the recommendations from the CDC and our elected leaders as we have slowed the spread of COVID-19. Preparing for this summer has been more than difficult. We’d love nothing more than to open the gates to the aquatic facilities, athletic fields and more to bring you the summer which we have all come to expect each year, except this year will need to be different. We have prepared a variety of options on how we might be able to provide all the normal activities with some alterations to continue to keep everyone safe. At the time of this brochure printing, we await recommendations and decisions on how and when our community will slowly be released from Stay at Home restrictions and businesses begin to re-emerge. We appreciate your patience while we adapt to the recommended operations for parks and recreation and wade through the upcoming months of programs and rentals. You can check the status of a program or facility on our website, Rainout Line or by calling our Administration Office with all the necessary details just to the right of my column on this page. Please continue to follow the CDC recommendations to stay healthy. We can’t wait to see you all in the parks, an extension of your own backyard!
Maralee M. Britton, Director
of
Parks
and
Recreation
PLEASE BE AWARE: When visiting the parks, please do so responsibly. Because we care about your health and well-being we need everyone to participate in following the CDC recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. • Stay home if you are feeling sick • Practice social distancing of at least 6 feet • Go by yourself or those you live with • Avoid crowded areas • Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds • Obey posted signs for closures or warnings • Be sure to educate your children of these practices

PARK EXPERIENCE AT THE TIME OF PRINTING THIS BROCHURE ON APRIL 28, 2020, THE INFORMATION IS ACCURATE.
"My favorite part has been learning and practicing life saving skills and techniques" - Aquatics Manager, Dolores Aquatics has been a part of my family's life for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was little, we spent countless hours at the St. Charles City Aquatic Facilities. In fact, one summer alone there were five of my siblings including myself on the Blanchette Barracudas Swim Team. With so much of our time spent at the pools, it is no surprise that many of us began working for the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department. Being a lifeguard is almost a family tradition for us. My sisters and I all became a part of the lifeguard team and have had a wonderful time also being swim instructors. I have been with the Department since 2015, in addition to my current position as Aquatics Manager I have had the opportunity to also be an Aquatics Fitness Instructor and the Head Coach for the swim team. We have enjoyed our job and have found it rewarding, like seeing the progression of a student during swim lessons or being able to use lifesaving skills and techniques to assist someone in need. We have one more youngster in the family who is eager to buckle on the lifeguard hip pack and continue the family legacy. It is easy to see why my sisters have, and I continue to be a part of the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department's team. We have created so many wonderful memories from both participating in their programs and working at the pools. We've made lifelong friendships and developed professional and life saving skills that will stick with us forever. We are all grateful for the opportunities that the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department has given us and so many others in St. Charles. around the
Each year the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department makes park improvements by upgrading or adding new amenities to existing facilities. We are excited about the following park improvements that we have planned for 2020. One of the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department's exciting projects that began in April is happening at McNair Park. We'll be enhancing the spectator area behind Athletic Field #1 to the Concessions Stand creating a gathering space and helping with drainage issues. A new playground will provide another opportunity for play and expanded pathways to the Concessions Stand and restrooms will relieve dust and gravel while providing better walkways through the area.
As our final "As Promised through Prop P" project, Kiwanis Park will be receiving some renovations and updates beginning in May. The existing playground structure is being replaced with new playground equipment, swings, and playground safety surfacing. In addition to the playground, we will be painting, re-roofing, and replacing fixtures at the restrooms and shelter. The park improvements were placed on a temporary hold until the much needed improvements could be completed at Cole Creek to help improve flooding challenges in the area through the Prop P Stormwater resources. Stay connected with us for updates and announcements by following @STCParksPlayMO on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Safety
in the
Parks
The St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department's Ranger Division would like to remind you of a few safety tips and rules for everyone to have the most enjoyable experience: • Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle in plain sight of others. Properly secure your belongings or leave them at home. • While exercising in the parks, carry a cell phone or have a buddy join you. • The speed limit within all parks is 15mph. Be vigilant and watch for pedestrians. • Please be sure that all fires within a barbecue pit are extinguished prior to leaving. • Dogs are required to be on a leash at all times and owners are responsible for removing pet waste. • Motorized vehicles may only be used on designated roadways and parking lots. • Please be courteous to other park visitors by picking up your litter and avoid disruptive behavior. • Keep It Close - keeping your phone close can not only save your life in an emergency, but also aid in saving the lives of others.
To report a suspicious person, activity or vehicle of concern, call the St. Charles Police/Ranger Dispatch at 636-949-3309. We appreciate all eyes and ears within the parks and welcome comments. General observations can be made by calling the Parks and Recreation Administration Office at 636-949-3372. For immediate emergency response to report fire, medical emergency, or a crime in progress, dial 911.
"I've been a traveler with the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department since the fall of 2010 and have been enjoying trips annually since then!" - Trips Program Participant, Susie
It is difficult to pinpoint a favorite trip or memory as each one has been special. Sharing conversation, laughter and delicious meals besides visiting numerous beautiful and intriguing places, learning the history and background of people and places are what make each one a favorite! Who would've thought I’d enjoy a visit to the Mustard Factory or the Corn Palace! Then there’s the Jelly Belly Factory and glass blowing in Corning, New York! Each has a delightful story. Of course, the spectacular beauty and entertainment in Oahu, Hawaii is at the top of my list. The Parks Department has thought of it all! Besides traveling to spectacular places, the Trip Planner, John Pike, does an outstanding job finding interesting places enroute to the main destination. We even play bus bingo with some "fantastic" prizes and watch movies to keep us entertained between travel stops. Impressive, detailed itineraries are provided to us as well, leaving the only decision you have to make is what you'd like for dinner. I've developed lasting friendships with numerous people on every trip I've taken. I look forward to seeing my travel friends on our next adventure with the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department and encourage you to join in on the adventure and fun!
