The City of Steamboat Springs Parks & Recreation Department offers a fun and exciting assortment of youth summer camps. The activities of each camp are designed to challenge the level of each age group, and daily activities aim to develop skills necessary for the safe enjoyment of outdoor adventures in the Rocky Mountains. The Adventure Bound summer programs also have an inclusion program that addresses children with special needs in a non-restrictive environment.

GOLF CAMP

A.S.S.E.T. Summer Camps are single week skill building activities that run throughout the summer. The fee for each camp includes summer day camp from 7:30 AM – 5:45 PM for kids 1st through 3rd grades, or 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM for kids 4th through 8th grades, along with all activity fees and snacks. Kids will be transported in a city or school district vehicle to and from activities as needed. Listed below are the times that the kids will be in special activities. Parents must provide lunch for A.S.S.E.T. Camp participants.

Learn basic golf skills or practice existing skills. Kids practice at the driving range, putting green and bunkers. Advanced players have access to the 9 hole course at Rollingstone Golf Club. Parks & Recreation partners with the Old Town Hot Springs to provide a special Swim Lesson A.S.S.E.T. Camp to kick-off the summer. American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels 1 through 5 are offered. Travel to Glenwood Springs to explore the Fulford Caves, raft the Colorado River, enjoy the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, soak and play at the Glenwood pools, and tour town. WATER FUN! Join instructors and staff from Mountain Sports Kayak School for this unique camp geared towards beginner and intermediate participants who enjoy water activities. Camp will consist of two days of paddleboarding and two days of kayaking. Kids will learn skills and techniques to be safe and have fun on our local rivers, ponds, lakes and resevoirs. CRAFTING CAMP: KITES & FLIGHT Blue skies and summer breezes are calling for handmade kites and crafts that fly. In this special Young at Art Creativity Camp - City Edition, young students discover new ways to explore flight. From kites and capes, to birds and butterflies, all of the projects will fly, some in the wind, and others in our imagination. RACKET RATS: TENNIS CAMP Learn basic tennis skills and game play, or practice existing skills. MINI-SPROUTS SUMMER PROGRAM

Mini-Sprouts is a part-time program for potty trained 3 to 5 year olds. Each session is spent learning new and exciting information, while having fun and enjoying the outdoors. Participants are responsible for their own snacks.

THURSDAY NATURE RANGERS Little nature lovers meet at Emerald Park for outdoor play, arts & crafts activities, and snack time. Kids learn about the many plants and animals in the Yampa Valley and Yampa River Botanic Park, plus we’ll introduce the basic ideas of reduce, reuse, and recycle. WEDNESDAY WEEKLY READERS The perfect program for your little book lover. Meet at Little Toots Park for craft time and outdoor play. Enjoy a short walk to the Bud Werner Memorial Library for bathroom breaks and story time, then return to the park for snacks and additional craft/game time, all based on the literature that kids love. CELESTIAL SEASONINGS TEA TOUR & BUTTERFLY PAVILION Experience a fragrant, behind the scenes tour, of the Celestial Seasonings tea factory in Boulder. The trip includes time to visit the one-of-a-kind gift shop and enjoy lunch at the onsite cafe. From there, the group heads to Westminister to marvel at the colorful creatures at the Butterfly Pavilion. COLORADO ROCKIES BASEBALL Enjoy a day at the ballpark as the Colorado Rockies take on the Miami Marlins. BETTY FORD ALPINE GARDENS Discover the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens in Vail, the highest elevation botanic garden in the world! Spend the day admiring the beautiful flowers and other alpine treasures, then visit Vail Village for a snack and a little shopping. MUSEUM OF NATURE & SCIENCE Explore everything that the Museum of Nature & Science has to offer, including, the planetarium and an IMAX movie about pandas. Each summer softball league guarantees a total of 16 games + playoffs. Summer leagues offer participants at least 10 games + playoffs in a fun 11v11 format (8 male / 3 female minimum). The City of Steamboat Springs Parks & Recreation Department hosts a number of special events throughout the year. Special events are focused on the local community, and are a fun and affordable activity for participants of all ages and ability levels.


TOWN CHALLENGE MTB RACE SERIES The Town Challenge is a six race summer series featuring cross country, hill climb, and downhill terrain. Races are for all ages and ability levels, with five separate skill divisions, as well as, gender and age group breakouts. Races are held on Wednesday evenings, followed by a post-race party and participant dinner at a local restaurant. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Summer programs and special events have been extremely successful, thanks to the passion and commitment of our volunteers. There are several exciting volunteer opportunities already lined up for anyone looking to get involved this summer.

TRAIL MAINTENANCE WORK DAYS In 2018, the Open Space and Trails crew will host a variety of volunteer days on city trails and open space properties. Work days provide a great opportunity to get outside and be involved in the community. Each project will be different, so there will be something for everyone! Depending on the scheduled projects, work days typically last from 9 AM until 1 PM or 2 PM. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate, and should come prepared with a water bottle, sturdy shoes, gloves, sunscreen and sunglasses. Breakfast or lunch is also included! YAMPA RIVER CLEAN-UP DAY Join forces with the City of Steamboat Springs and Friends of the Yampa on Saturday, July 7 to clean-up and celebrate the Yampa River. TOWN CHALLENGE MTB RACE SERIES The Town Challenge MTB Race Series is made possible each summer by a great group of volunteers. From marking the course, to racer check-in and timing, the goal is to provide a fun and involved experience for all volunteers. Each volunteer receives a Town Challenge t-shirt, free food and beverages at each post-race party, opportunities to win great prizes and giveaways from sponsors, not to mention a great experience with fellow community members. 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS Be a part of one of Colorado’s biggest and best firework shows! As a volunteer for the annual 4th of July Fireworks Show, you’ll get hands-on experience helping event coordinators with a variety of tasks related to the fireworks extravaganza. Volunteer opportunities include pre-event set-up, which involves moving supplies and assembling infrastructure at the firework launch sites. In return for your hard work, join staff at the launch sites for an up close view of the show later that night. Lunch will be provided. ADOPT-A-TRAIL Adopt-A-Trail is a volunteer opportunity open to individuals, groups, and businesses that are interested in taking an active role in improving their city trails. Sign up for a two year commitment, and agree to monitor and work on a section, at least four times between May and October. Typical work involves trash and debris removal, reporting problems, and special projects as needed such as pruning, bench painting, etc. Volunteers can apply to maintain sections of the Core Trail and other neighborhood trails such as Blue Sage, Fox Creek, and lower Spring Creek.
