Task description: The topics to be assessed are, Interest and Depreciation, Rates and Ratios, Equations and Linear Functions (Inc. Solving Simultaneous Equations Algebraically) and Correlation and Regression. Knowledge, skills and understanding will be communicated via a 90 minute pen and paper exam. Type of Task: Formal examination: covers a broad range of syllabus content and outcomes, supervised under exam conditions (allowed in 2022 due to Covid exemptions) Method of Submission: Hardcopy Timing of Task: Week 9 Task date: 30 March 2022 Task weighting: 25%

Will this task be completed as part of the Assessment Block in Weeks 9 and 10? Yes Time allocated to task: 90 minutes

Task completion details: Assessment Details: The task is an examination to be completed during the Mid-course assessment period weeks 9 and 10 term 1. Task length comprises of 90 minutes writing time and 5 minutes reading time. Questions are a combination of multiple choice and free response. A reference sheet will be provided. Students are to bring their own NESA approved calculator, pens, pencils, rulers and erasers to the examination. The exam is divided into two sections: • Section I contains multiple choice questions to the value of 10 marks • Section II contains free response questions to the value of 40 marks

Task outcomes: MS2-12-1 uses detailed algebraic and graphical techniques to critically evaluate and construct arguments in a range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts MS2-12-2 analyses representations of data in order to make inferences, predictions and draw conclusions MS2-12-3 interprets the results of measurements and calculations and makes judgements about their reasonableness, including the degree of accuracy and the conversion of units where appropriate MS2-12-4 analyses two-dimensional and three-dimensional models to solve practical problems MS2-12-5 makes informed decisions about financial situations, including annuities and loan repayments MS2-12-6 solves problems by representing the relationships between changing quantities in algebraic and graphical forms

MS2-12-7 solves problems requiring statistical processes, including the use of the normal distribution and the correlation of bivariate data MS2-12-9 chooses and uses appropriate technology effectively in a range of contexts, and applies critical thinking to recognise appropriate times and methods for such use MS2-12-10 uses mathematical argument and reasoning to evaluate conclusions, communicating a position clearly to others and justifying a response. Instructions for Task Preparation: In preparing for this examination students may wish to use their textbooks to review Test Yourself chapters. Your classroom teacher will supply additional worksheets for Solving Simultaneous Equations Algebraically. Further revision work can be found on Edrolo (specifically the Topic Test and Progress check features of the site) to review content. Past Papers can be found in the folder in “S” Drive pathway: S:\COMMON\Year 12\Maths. Past Papers can also be found on Canvas. Practising past paper questions will assist students in becoming familiar with the types and standard of exam questions that can and will be examined.
