The Shorthorn Youth Development Fund (SYDF) was established in 2020 to provide financial support that will sustain and expand excellent programming to develop Shorthorn youth as cattle producers and responsible, productive citizens.

We started a new fundraising program last year and many breeders donated lots in their sales to become part of the Shorthorn Royal Society. This has continued this year and is off to a great start!

On January 9 during the Summit National Shorthorn Sale, Cates Farms donated $3,500 of proceeds on shares from CF Payweight.

On March 27 during the Lone Star Edition XXVIII sale, WHR Shorthorns of Texas donated three conventional embryos of HD Bloodstone and WHR Cumberland DAZ. They sold for a total of $3,000 to Holcomb Cattle Co., Mike Holcomb of Texas.

On March 29 during the Missouri Shorthorn Association Sale, Gilman Shorthorns of Iowa donated five units of Leveldale Cowboy Up. They sold to Steve and Julie French, Little Cedar Cattle Company of Michigan for a total of $1,150. Merideth Land and Cattle of Missouri donated five units of JSF Foreplay. It sold to Shawn Vachal, Pearl Valley Shorthorns of North Dakota for a total of $250. Leveldale Farms of Illinois donated five units of Studer’s Taylor Made and it sold to Nick Harper of Ohio for a total of $375. Leveldale Farms also donated five units of Leveldale Reload that sold to Nathaniel Miller of Ohio for a total of $55. Legacy Ranch/ Greenhorn Cattle Company donated five units of SULL Boogie Knight. It sold to Connie Verdone of Missouri for a total of $175. Paint Valley Farms of Ohio donated five units of Byland Flash and it sold for a total of $755 to Cody Hooks of Tennesse. Paint Valley Farms donated five units of Byland Soggy Dog and it sold for a total of $500 to DJ Huff of Indiana. Paint Valley Farms donated five units of JSF Palermo and it sold for $625 to Tami Arnold of Colorado.

Bar N Cattle Company/Jungels Shorthorn Farm/Promise Land Cattle

Co. donated five units of JSF Manhattan and it sold for $375 to Sharon Wilson of Kentucky. Bar N Cattle Company/ Steel Hill Cattle donated five units of Bar N Conviction and it sold for a total of $100 to Lee Scott of Pennsylvania. Merideth Land and Cattle donated five units of Byland Top Dog and it sold for $750 to Nathaniel Miller of Ohio. The total raised for the SYDF during the Missouri Shorthorn sale was $5,110. This money will go directly towards the 2022 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Youth Conference.

On April 9 during the Red Dirt Treasures sale, Lazy Bar F Shorthorns of Oklahoma, donated 50% of a heifer. /F Sierra Rose sold for a total of $1,350 to Mark Berhm of Ohio. The SYDF will receive $675. On April 9 during the Oklahoma Shorthorn Sooner Sale, Crow Creek Farms of Oklahoma donated five lots of semen. They donated five units of SULL Sinister, five units of Waukaru Thor, five units of SULL Red Stallion, two units of SULL-GNCC Final Solution, and two units of K-KIM MP Castelerock. The lots were bought by 3B Shorthorns, John Leven, Valintine Del Rio and Bye Well Shorthorn for a total of $602.50 to the SYDF.
