Family Ties

Growing up, the Shorthorn breed had always been called the family breed, and I’ve been able to experience some situations that show this on a real level. With no other breed can you be driving through Kansas and have a truck breakdown, only to know someone who lives in the very same town willing to loan you a truck for a week while yours gets fixed. With no other breed can you be on your way to Texas and have a truck break down and be able to make a phone call to some close friends who volunteer to go out of your way to pick up your trailer and store it for you. Other than the very unfortunate truck breakdowns, the only thing these stories have in common is the friends who you consider family being there to help you in a time of need.

I like to look at the Shorthorn breed as a cattle operation. Every family in the breed represents a different cow family. Each family has their strong suits and when brought back to the operation, or the Shorthorn breed in our case, we go together to make the best breed possible. Bringing a mix of different cow families back to your operation allows you to not only expand your operation but make it the strongest you can. Our breed is the same. We love welcoming new families and getting them involved. This only makes our breed better!

Without being in the Shorthorn breed, the family breed to say the least, we would have never met these people who we now call our Shorthorn family who took time out of their own busy lives to help us out. I have been very fortunate to grow my Shorthorn family and I’m so thankful I’ve been able to do that! =
