usly o m y n o n a s t h g pest thou e e d r u o y s s e f A place to con Everyone thinks my BF is gay

As the title says, everyone thinks my boyfriend is gay. When we first became friends I even thought he was gay! I wouldn’t use the word gay around him in case he feels insulted. But after he straight out told me he wasn’t gay (I didn’t ask) it was then I started catching feelings. Fast forward to when we start dating and everyone that I told said, “I thought he was gay!!!”. To be completely honest, I’m quite embarrassed at the fact that everyone thinks that he is gay and I feel terrible for feeling that way because I love him sooooo much! I wish I didn’t care about what other people think of him but I do, and I feel like that shows what kind of person I am if people think my bf is gay if… that makes any sense. He doesn’t know that other people feel this way and he doesn’t know that I’m embarrassed by what other people think of him, and it makes me feel like a bitch. that everyone thinks my bf is gay and I’m embarrassed by it.

I like my dog more than my girlfriend I haven’t been with this girl long. We’ve only been official for less than a month, but if there were a house fire or something, and I had to save my girlfriend or my dog, I’d choose my dog. I don’t know why this makes me feel bad, and I obviously can’t tell her. Just wanted to get it off my chest

My wife thinks I

I have a crazy don’t want kids... secret fantasy

of being limbless...

I Fake Every

Single One....

Not for life, but if it could be for one night. Having a woman hold me, do what she wants with me (as long as it doesn’t involve physical harm or humiliation). And when I say limbless I mean up to the hips and up to the shoulders, completely devoid of limbs. But then I’d like to wake up normal after that…

I have faked every single orgasm I’ve ever had with every single sex partner I’ve ever had. Thank God… I had to get that out. I’m tired of years of faking it. I swear, men know nothing about female anatomy!

I take photos of women while they

sleep in my bed It started with my ex-wife in 2006. I did it again this morning with my new girlfriend while I was getting ready for work and she was still sleeping. I have a folder on my laptop of about 30 girls sound asleep. I don’t do anything pervy like getting photos of their boobs; just faces, but I still feel like a creep.

I’m OK with having a son(s), but as soon as the thought of having a daughter comes to mind, I want nothing to do with her. I grew up with a sister and I HATED all the stuff she had to go through (teenager, dating, guys she liked). I would no way want to deal with a daughter of my own going through all that, not to mention having to deal with all the trouble of her looking for a mate. I just think (and in my heart) know that girls are more trouble than it’s worth.

How to Have

Perfect

a Free Spirit

Timing in Life If “timing is everything,” shouldn’t you learn how to perfect yours? STEP 1 - Have sex at 7 a.m.

Have sex around 7 a.m., when testosterone levels are highest, making you friskier and more sensitive to touch.

STEP 2 - Water the plants in the morning

Water your garden in the early morning, or else the daytime heat will evaporate it before your plants get their fill. Plus, morning watering prevents fungus.

STEP 3 - Shave at 8 a.m.

Shave your legs or face around 8 a.m., when blood platelets are plentiful, meaning better clotting and less bleeding should you nick yourself. Tip - If you need to see a doctor, ask for the first appointment of the day. You won’t have to wait around, and the doctor will be refreshed.

STEP 4 - Tackle big projects at 11 a.m.

Tackle big projects around 11 a.m., when you’re most alert.

STEP 5 - Take a cat nap at 1 p.m.

If at all possible, sleep for 20 minutes sometime between 1 and 2 p.m. Your body temperature dips then, making it the ideal time to power nap.

Tip - Schedule dental appointments for your lunch hour. Research shows that your tolerance for tooth pain is highest around 1 p.m., and that the dental painkiller lidocaine lasts longest when injected between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. STEP 6 - Tackle house cleaning at 4 p.m.

Clean the house at 4 p.m., when your hand-eye coordination is greatest and mood is elevated.

How to Maintain

STEP 7 - Enjoy a cocktail at 5:30 p.m.

Have a drink at 5:30—that’s when your liver metabolises alcohol most efficiently. No wonder they call it “happy hour.”

STEP 8 - Work out in the evening

Schedule gym sessions between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.— that’s when body temperature warms up, making muscles more supple and less prone to injury.

Tip - Weight training in particular is more effective in the evening. That’s when the body’s ratio of the hormones cortisol and testosterone is best for muscle-building. STEP 9 - Buy shoes in the evening

The end of the day is the best time to buy shoes, because early morning purchases don’t take into account the swelling that occurs during the day.

STEP 10 - Send final emails before 8 p.m.

Send your last important email of the day before 8 p.m. The top times to check email are 8 a.m., lunchtime, and 8 p.m., so if you miss the final cutoff, your email will likely wait until morning.

Tip - If you take a daily aspirin, pop it at night, when it does less damage to the stomach lining and is better at reducing blood pressure. STEP 11 - Eat three hours before bed

The best time for your bedtime snack is actually at least three hours before you go to sleep, so your body has time to digest the food.

If you envy people who easily brush off problems, this advice will help guide your mind to a peaceful, positive existence. STEP 1 - Make it simple

Simplify your life. Overcome your desire to possess and consume materialistic things. You will have less to stress about.

STEP 2 - Breathe deeply

Take deep breaths to relax during times of frustration to restore a calm and collected feeling.

STEP 3 - Meditation

Meditate daily to keep your life in balance. Focus on a positive approach to living.

Tip - Practicing yoga is an excellent way to get in tune with your spirit. STEP 4 - Surround yourself with happy people

Converse with people who are generally in good spirits. Happiness is contagious. You will be in a happier place because of them.

STEP 5 - Maintain a healthy lifestyle

Exercise regularly, eat healthy foods, and live an overall healthy lifestyle.

STEP 6 - Get organised

Get rid of physical clutter to free yourself of mental clutter. Get organised and free your spirit.

HOW

TO’S

Testing Your Relationship No relationship is perfect. There's always room for improvement, but you can find out just how much room by honestly examining your relationship.

STEP 1 - Evaluate your sex life

Consider your sex life. Do you and your partner have sex often enough for both of you? Is it mutually satisfying? Do you find sex with your partner boring? It's an important part of a relationship. If either of you is dissatisfied, there may be trouble in the relationship.

Tip - While it can be awkward and uncomfortable to discuss openly, someone has to take the first step. STEP 2 Communication issues

Think about how well you communicate with your partner. Do you listen when your partner speaks? Does your partner listen to you? Does either of you have difficulty opening up to the other? If your relationship suffers from a lack of communication, you will never feel strongly connected to your partner.

STEP 3 Trust issues

Think about trust issues in your relationship. Are you and your partner completely honest with each other? Are you jealous of attention your partner gets from others? If you're checking your partner's browser history, e-mail account, or phone and text messages, you need to determine why you're insecure and openly discuss it with your partner.

STEP 4 Respect each other

This is crucial to a healthy relationship. Do

you allow each other to maintain your dignity when you fight, or do you become cruel and hurtful? The degree of respect and esteem you demonstrate to one another can indicate a healthy relationship -- or a dying one.

STEP 5 Have fun together

Consider the amount of fun you have together. Do you go out together or separately? Do you enjoy the same activities? Can you spend time together and laugh with each other or do you have nothing to talk about? If there's no fun in the relationship, think about why you're still in it.

Tip - It's normal to have separate friends you like to spend time with, but it's healthy to include one another in group activities, too. STEP 6 Get along

Consider how much you have in common. Do you get along well as friends? Do you bore each other? Is one of you embarrassed or ashamed of the other? If you don't get along with each other, its time to start thinking about why you're together.

STEP 7 Consider your options

Consider what you get out of your relationship and how it makes you feel. If you have only a few problems, your relationship is worth working at and fighting for. But if you can't see happiness in the future of your relationship, take steps toward doing what makes you happy.

Dating a Coworker Risking your career over a workplace romance? To paraphrase John Lennon, "All you need is love" and a little wise advice. STEP 1 - Be cautious and discreet

Keep it quiet, at least at first. You may feel great the day after first hooking-up, but give it a few weeks before screaming to the world that you're madly in love.

STEP 2 Cop to the affair

When you decide to confide in your colleagues (or are forced to after someone catches you in flagrante delicto), cop to the affair as matter-of-factly as possible. At this point, denials will only make you look foolish, or—if there's a conflict of interest—put your job at risk.

Tip - Check the cute stuff at the office door. If a co-worker overhears you exchanging endearments like "Honey Bear" and "Lovey Pumpkin," you'll never hear the end of it.

STEP 3 - Don't have sex at workplace

Resist the urge to have sex on the conference room table, on the photocopier, or anywhere else at your workplace.

STEP 4 Don't give preferential treatment

Don't give your lover any preferential treatment. Even small favours can alienate other co-workers and create a hostile environment.

STEP 5 Be professional if romance ends

If the romance ends, act as professionally as you possibly can. Remember, it's not the love affair that will get you canned, but the stalking, accusations, and retribution that sometimes follow.

Eric Barrie

FACE TO FACE We recenetly came across this very innovative concept created by Eric Barrie and wanted to share it with you. Producer/director Eric Barrie explains, “I recently began a personal project where I have conversations with folks involved in local theatre, just chatting about their journey in the arts and their plans. The medium is the Speaker site which allows you to create your own "radio station". So I am in the second week of The Eric Barry Show and you can "tune in". My chat sessions are called Face to Face.

My first Face to Face was with Ronald De Suze. He spoke about leaving his job in the 1990's to pursue study and career in acting in the USA and how reality bit him.”

The Department of Creative & Festival Arts (DCFA) of The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine invites you to enter a dark and exotic world; a place where shadowy dangerous characters live; an island within an island from which you will never be able to leave. This is the world of Maria Antonia, being staged at the Little Carib Theatre from April 4 to 7, and 12 to 14, 2013 with 8pm nightly shows and Sunday shows beginning at 6pm. As part of the requirements for the BA in Theatre Arts, Production II students of the DCFA are brought together as a company to perform in and produce a full-length play. Marvin George, part-time lecturer and co-lecturer for the course Production II said, “We are very fortunate to have Dr. Jorge Morejon – a Cuban-American dance lecturer at our department working on the production as both translator and director.” Under the guidance of Morejon, who translates, dramaturges and directs the play, Maria Antonia, the 1967 Cuban classic written by Eugenio Hernandez Espinosa will truly be brought to life. Maria Antonia is the tragic story of an Afro-Cuban woman who defies the men, women, and traditions of her community in search of self

and meaning. Through her trysts with men, her defiance of religion, and her thirst for change, she presents the struggles of a post-revolutionary Cuba – one where women are forced to re-evaluate their roles in society. It employs Afro-Cuban culture – for example Santeria, a syncretic religion of West African and Caribbean origin; and Rumba dance – as part of its aesthetic. The play, therefore, presents itself as an opportunity, not simply for the teaching and honing of necessary skills in theatre, but for students to be exposed to Cuban culture and familiarize themselves with the history of the Caribbean region. Syntyche Bishop and Tafar Lewis will share the the title role of Maria Antonia, with a supporting cast that includes Robert Noel, Kareem Durity, Ketisha Williams, Daniella Johnson, Dernelle Smith, Merlisia McIntosh, Khadein Benn, Lequacia Renee Quash-De Suze, Jarell Akini Alder, Adam Pascall, Lalonde Jay Ochoa, Marvin Dowridge, Ion-Iee Farmer, Marcus Waldron, Shanice James, Simeon Chris Moodoo, Kirsten Shade, Candace Sturge Dunbar, Gabrielle Jade Le Gendre, Alana Ash and Ruzanne Gustave. General admission tickets are currently available for $100 with special rates for tertiary students with students ID at $50 and secondary students, $40 with student ID. For further information and bookings call 663-2222, email mariaantoniauwi@gmail.com or follow the production on Twitter @MariaAntoniaUWI.

“This weekend I spoke with Mervyn de Geoas. He shared the ups and downs of choosing theatre as a full time career, his contribution to changing the theatre landscape in the 1980's and why he chose to retire from it at a relatively young age.” Click on the Button above to listen to the first part of our Face to Face:
 I hope you enjoy.

David Millien is only 24 years old and without a doubt he was most successful soca producer for the 2013 Carnival season. He and his team wrote and produced some of the biggest soca hits for the season including Denise Belfon’s “Wining Queen”, Machel Montano’s “Indian Gyal” and “Life of the Party”, Benjai’s “Feter”, Patrice Roberts’ “Permission Granted”, Olatunji Yearwood’s “Bam Bam”, just to name a few. David visited team OMG and sat down for a chat. So all of your songs did well this year? Most of them. All was too much... because we did about 35 productions. How does that feel, people appreciating your work? Well, I feel that I’ve accomplished a lot, getting all this attention for my work feels really great. I’ve been doing production for about eight years now, so this feels real nice. A great milestone for all the hard work over the years. What do you attribute the success to? Well, we have been working real hard. We have been working since April last year. I called all the writers together. We formed a little team and just made a real concentrated effort and pushed each other straight through till Carnival. So what is the process?Do you write first and then the rhythm comes? Well, the Project 5 Rhythm and the Salsa Rhythms. I got that from Star Blu Productions. They sent me the beginning of the rhythm and I finished it. We had a lot of rhythms, so I chose the best ones and I told the writers what we were working with. They took like about two weeks with each one and came up with the song and that’s how most of the songs were created. Especially the Project 5 Rhythm. We paid more attention to that one. How would you get an artiste involved? How do you choose who will fit what song? We first would write the song with an artiste in mind. One of the writers would sing the song and we would create a demo. Then we would call in the artiste we have in mind to hear it. Most times when they come to the studio they would fall in love with the song one time. They would say, “like allyuh real study me boy”.

Check out Millbeatz’ Youtube Page

So Denise Belfon song with the “eh, eh, eh”, that was written for her? Actually, my sister Dee Dee started the whole idea with the Saucy song with the “eh, eh, eh” because she felt like that is what Saucy would say if she was doing this song and then the rest of the writers built on Dee Dee’s vibe with the “eh, eh” and the rest of the song was completed.

Eight years in the business to get here. How has that journey been for you? Real tough! I always tell new producers coming up that with this industry you have to have a strong heart. You can get discouraged easy because there are many discouraging situations to come and you have to rise above it because in my early years I was producing, going to the radio stations, taking my stuff, and not getting any response. It was real hard. After about twothree years of being persistent men started taking me on and giving my music a chance. So what was the first song that got you noticed? I worked with another studio called Studio 12 for five years. We tried many things that got shot down and then we got Doggy Slaughter to come to the studio and we produced a song called “Piece Ah Dat” and after that things changed for us. Do you think you did not get your music played in the early days because your music was not ready or was it just people wanted to hold you back? I always believed in my stuff, but I must say when I listen back to the early stuff that I did I would say, “nah boy ah really hear now what men was saying”. For me all the discouragement was motivation for me to work harder, when men tell me, “yuh mix not sounding good, that mix eh sounding right”. I went back, listened and tried to fix whatever I could have noticed at that stage in my career. But when I look back from then to now, they were really talking a lot of sense. How many songs made it this year for you? I never really count them up nah, but we had the Project 5 Riddim which had five songs, we had the Salsa Riddim which had three songs, we had the Drummer Boy with three songs, I had another one, the Alarm Clock Riddim, one song that did not do so well. It was released late. We had Shal with “No Rules”, Squeezy Rankin, Drupatee and Machel with “Indian Gyal”, Mike Jones from 91.9 with “Doh Do Meh That”. Are some artistes easier than others to work with? Depending on the level the artiste is on. Some may come in the studio and within an hour, two hours they will lay down their tracks and outta there, some may take three days. Many times it would be me the producer who would take the time with them because I know the sound I am looking for and I know what I want out of them. Do you work all the time then? I am a workaholic, so my friend list real limited. I have been in the studio for the past eight years of my life so I am really close to a very few friends and my main support system is my family. Tell me about you growing up, before music. I have always been around music. I come from a very musical family. My dad was doing vocal training with the church choir. Mom played keyboard and sang. I was always into football. I never thought I would be in a musical career. My dream was to be an international footballer. I was always with a football club until after CXC. I was just home doing nothing and my mom saw a commercial on TV from the Laventille School of

OMG Magazine | Friday March 22, February, 2013 • PAGE 19

Photography and interview | Stephen Doobal Technology asking for sound engineers and she felt I should go and register for the class. I did not want to go but she said it was only a three-month course, just give it a try. So I reluctantly went, but when I got there it was like my whole world opened up. I started picking up really fast and the first song I created really impressed the teacher. They used it for a commercial for the school. So then I said to myself, “hey I might be really good at this” and so it all started. I met up with a friend on my street who was already into music production. That is when I started with Studio 12 and we began working together, recording and editing in his bedroom, using the cupboard as the sound booth, and building a business. I spent five years with Studio12. By that time we had a full studio. So how did you move from Studio12 to Millbeatz? Well, after I did the Doug-eslaughter song, I felt like my partner stopped calling and on New Year’s Day he called and said he wanted to go on his own. I was real shocked. We just spent five years growing. It felt like a girl broke up with me, because that was meh friend too. At the end of the day I understood where he was coming from but that left me in a situation because the studio was built by him with all the equipment there. I had to start over, so I started in my bedroom as before. That is where Millbeatz was born, in January 2010. At that point I really wondered whether to give up doing production or if to continue and within a day I made the decision to continue and the word “Millbeatz” just came up in my head. I believe in God and I believe he gave me that word. I called a graphic artist friend of mind and it was half four in the morning. I told him the names. Within half hour he sent me the design of the Millbeatz logo which I use up to today. That was my motivation there. From there I said I have to work to build back a studio and within two years we made it happen and this is our third year. Things were really great. Millbeatz’s future dreams? The future is heading out, working with some of the big producers out there. I would like to go to Jamaica and work with Don Corleone. I look up to him since I small. He is a producer who does a lot of good reggae. Reggae is where I started too, so I would like to do some work with him in the future, and try to get a good distribution deal. I would actually also want to start a record label and sign artistes, but that is when we have a large staff and money.

Your OMG moment? That has to be when we got Machel to agree to do “Life of the Party” and the Drupatee’s “Indian Gyal” song with us. At the time I was in work mode so we recorded it, I mixed it and then we released it but then it really hit meh when ah hear it on the radio. At one point in time every radio station I turn to was playing it at the same time. That was like Oh My Gosh, after the eight years of hard work this dream was actually coming true and it felt great.

Jonathan Ramkissoon 17, St Augustine

Jonathan started swimming at the age of nine and began competing at 12. When he went to Hillview College, he heard they needed guys for the school swim team and because he swam a bit he decided to try that out. While training he noticed there was a swimming club at the Centre of Excellence’s swimming pool – Tidal Wave Aquatics – and asked to join. He said he did not take it seriously until about form three when he decided to try to make the national swimming team. But he was unable to make the team until he was 14. That’s when he went to the 2010 Carifta Games in Jamaica. Every year since then he has been on the national team. For the first two years Jonathan said he struggled to balance school work and swimming and he never achieved an individual medal until he competed in the CISC Aruba 2012 meeting where he won silver in the 100 metres breast stroke and bronze in the 50 metres breast stroke for 15-17 boys. Jonathan says achieving those medals were his happiest moments in swimming thus far and that it came at the right moment because he was not performing at his best. He feels what motivates him to swim well is that he is around teammates who are now the fastest swimmers in that age group to ever come out of the Caribbean. Jonathan’s shortterm goal is to make the finals of the World Junior Championships and his long-term goal is to make the 2016 Rio Olympics. When asked what he likes doing he says jokingly he like sleeping, eating. On a more serious note he likes Maths, Physics (he hates reading). He loves being underwater and being in a nice quiet spot. He had not joined the swim club yet but every Friday they had swim training. One Friday, as he was rushing to get out of the house, he just grabbed any pants to go swimming with. When he got to the pool and dived in, his pants slipped straight off. OMG!

Paradesi movie review: Bala’s film is a tour de force of a movie that hits you like a freight train and leaves a lasting impression

One of the most important films of the year, Paradesi manages to capture a lost era and tells a tale of bonded labour and slavery like no other movie in India has done so far. Every country has its own sad and horrific history of slavery that is rarely known. Turkey has its genocide of Armenian Jews. America has its own tale of atrocities committed on Red Indians and blacks. Germany has its Holocaust horrors. There are the killing fields of Cambodia, the Cultural Revolution in China, mass killings in Rwanda and much more. India has its secret history too, and Bala’s film Paradesi is about one such time where untold atrocities were inflicted on tea plantation workers. These plantations were ruled by the British and slave labour was the way to get work done. Almost the entire movie can be summed up in this chillingly truthful observation in a song from the film: “Animals never enslave one another. Human beings do…” Paradesi is a film like none other you have seen in Indian cinema until now. Simple in the way it’s made, yet so tasteful and clever in the way it approaches its subject matter, it almost takes you by surprise when it launches full speed into the investigation of the human condition under slavery. This is the true story of a people tricked into bonded labour on the tea estates of the Madras presidency during British rule, some time in the 1930s. It is based on a book by Paul Harris Daniel, who actually came across these workers. It shows how labour was made available on tea estates by conning whole villages into bonded labour and ultimately into slavery. It tackles a serious subject matter in a nonarthouse way, making the connect even more powerful. In 1930s India, a drought has hit a small

village hard. The wells run dry and the earth is parched. The villagers count the days waiting for their fortunes to turn. Even a funeral is hushed up as a wedding is held in the village; the grieving widow believes the hungry villagers deserve to eat a stomachful of fresh, hot food at least once a year, before the celebration is called off. All the villagers are a part of this sad little scenario except for Rasa (Atharva Murali), the village fool. He’s the proverbial God’s child with a heart of gold who goes around the village banging his little drum asking for arms. The villagers call him a paradesi, a wastrel. They heckle and hassle him. His frail and bent mother is angry with him for begging. The person who really irritates Rasa is a girl called Angamma (Vedhicka). She derives great pleasure in mocking him; she imitates him, plays pranks on him and laughs at him whenever she crosses his path. She secretly loves him too, and slowly their love unfolds. And, as Rasa’s love blossoms, along comes a contractor who lures the villagers with a chestful of money to a tea estate that is literally a living hell. Here is where the movie turns on its heel and delivers gut punching moments in the form of sharply crafted scenes that play across beautifully, yet with an impending sense of doom. And its characters never forget their sense of humour, dark as it may be. And although this period film is purely story based, Bala has injected it with characters so real that they only help build a stronger connect with the audience. The director has managed to extract flawless performances from all the actors including Atharva, Vedhicka and Dhansika for whom it must have been tough role both physically and mentally. The parched, stony landscape reminds you of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, mainly because that one was released so close to Paradesi. Yet Bala’s take, unlike Tarantino’s, is so reverent and humane that it leaves you with a very different aftertaste. Vairamuthu, who wrote the lyrics, has produced pure poetry, and at times even a subtitle says enough to run chills up and down your spine. Paradesi secures a place right up there with Schindler’s List and others that give a voice to those untold tales of cruelty and horror. Such a well crafted film deserves to be seen…and awarded. It’s too important to be ignored.

Aurangzeb first look:

Arjun Kapoor looks grim and dangerous. The poster of Atul Sabharwal’s upcoming movie is out and it showcases the actors looking all grim. Two posters of Aurangzeb are out! One features Arjun Kapoor in a double role, and the other one has Arjun, Prithviraj, Jackie Shroff and Rishi Kapoor flaunting dark looks. Buzz is that it’s a remake of the 1978 film Trishul. And in the first look of

the poster, we have Arjun Kapoor – the lead actor – playing a double role. While he does look pretty menacing, do you think he will able to match the fury of Amitabh Bachchan – the angry young man of Bollywood – who played the lead in the original? What’s more, Prithviraj is spotted wearing a khaki uniform. Will he be essaying the

role Shashi Kapoor played in the 1978 movie? Well, we can only guess. But must say, we’re impressed by the dark and sinister look of this poster. Looks promisingly dangerous, doesn’t it? Take a peek and tell us if you like it.

Michael Jackson's Children, Katherine Jackson Want $40 Billion From AEG Live It appears the Jackson family isn't letting AEG Live get off easy. According to TMZ, Michael Jackson's children Prince, Paris and Blanket, along with their grandmother Katherine Jackson, are requesting $40 billion from the entertainment company for the death of their father in 2009. Michael Jackson's kids Blanket, Paris and Prince Michael

The family is suing AEG Live -- who sponsored Michael's

"This Is It" tour -- for its alleged negligent hiring and supervision of Dr. Conrad Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the king of pop's death. The kids reportedly want $10 billion for all of the future earnings they claim their dad would have made had he lived, as well as an additional $50 million for various other damages. Still, AEG Live says the Jacksons' billion dollar demand is ridiculous considering Michael's career was in a state of decline after his child molestation allegations. The concert promoter also says their monetary request is based off of rank speculation.

‘My Strange Addiction’ shocker:

Woman hooked

on pig blood By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Park Jae-sang - aka psy

Seoul Singer Q&A by George Wayne for VanityFair Our correspondent catches up with the Korean YouTube sensation to talk about “Gangnam Style,” dancing with Britney, and sharing a manager with Justin Bieber. GEORGE WAYNE: What a whirlwind year of fame it’s been for you, Psy. What’s been the highlight? PSY: Making a surprise appearance with Britney Spears on the Ellen show—teaching her to dance “Gangnam style” was the best. GEORGE WAYNE: How do you top “Gangnam Style”? PSY: don’t know. There is such a high level of expectation now. I have to come out strong with my new single. GEORGE WAYNE: Maybe you need to create a new dance phenomenon called “the Bunga Bunga.” PSY: I like that. That is funny. But what is the Bunga Bunga? GEORGE WAYNE:Ask Silvio Berlusconi. PSY: Who is that? GEORGE WAYNE: It’s a long story, Psy. But I could see Psy doing the Bunga Bunga. It’s big in Italy, they tell G.W.

PSY: I love that idea. That is a really good idea. GEORGE WAYNE: Just remember my royalties for giving you that idea, Psy. By the way, how did you get the name Psy? PSY: I was born Park Jae-Sang, but everyone knows me as Psy. I called myself that because Psy is short for “Psycho.” And I am a bit psycho, but in a good way. GEORGE WAYNE: Are your parents proud of you today? PSY: They are really proud. My father is happy, because now he sees that I am more famous than Ban Ki-moon, the secretary-general of the United Nations. He was the most famous Korean before me. GEORGE WAYNE: You are represented by the most famous and influential entertainment manager in the world now—Scooter Braun. What is he like? PSY: He is really smart, and he thinks really fast. When he first called me last July, he said, “This is Scooter Braun. I am Justin Bieber’s manager.” I thought someone was playing a joke on me. But he invited me to come to L.A. and see him, and that was the beginning. He’s a nice Jewish boy. GEORGE WAYNE: Well, you tell Scooter Braun that G.W. says your next hit single should be titled “Bunga Bunga”! And thank you, Psy.

Just when it seems like “My Strange Addiction” has showcased the oddest habits out there -- from a woman who eats cat fur to a man who really (really) loves his car -the show reveals a new, peculiar and particularly distasteful obsession. In the upcoming season finale, viewers will meet Michelle, a woman who can’t seem to quench her thirst for blood. “I like to drink blood when I’m reading, when I’m relaxing, when I’m watching TV, when I’m painting -- there’s never a bad time for me to drink blood,” the 29-year-old tattoo artist explained. And in addition to enjoying the nectar of life in virtually every setting, Michelle also likes it in just about any form. “I wake up in the morning, I pour it into my coffee cup,” she said. “I like to cook with blood. I like to make it in soup. I like to cook it with stir-fry.... When I make Bloody Marys, I use vodka, hot sauce and then I add the final touch -- the blood.”

SAY WHAT?

Fake It ‘Til You Make It:

What Came Before Photoshop by CLAIRE O’NEILL NPR.ORG

The term “Photoshopping” has these days become synonymous with photo manipulation. But the practice is much older than the computer software — about as old as photography itself. An exhibition now on display at Washington, D.C.’s National Gallery of Art is exploring just that: The collaging, cutting, pasting and colouring that preceded digital photography. “You know, we don’t necessarily believe that every photograph ... is truthful,” says Curator Diane Waggoner, explaining how digital tools have changed the way we see photography. “So this seemed a very timely exhibition, to go back and explore that throughout the history of the medium.” But in a sense, people have always kind of known that photography isn’t entirely truthful. In the earliest days, some manipulation was certainly tolerated, if not preferred. Take 19th-century French photographer Gustave Le Gray, for example. The technology available to him would have made it hard to get both the clouds and the foreground of landscape properly exposed. No problem; he’d grab the clouds from one negative and the beach from another, and combine them to make the perfect scene, and everyone was happy. “Many of the earliest manipulated photographs

were attempts to compensate for the new medium’s technical limitations, especially its inability to register color,” the exhibition language reads. “But of course, when you actually saw what [the camera] produced, there were distortions, there were problems,” Waggoner elaborates. “So it was understood that you might do certain things in order to make a photograph look more like what you saw in real life.” As photography became more widespread, artists like the surrealists began experimenting. Photo manipulation was also a tool for propaganda. “The falsification of photographs was notoriously widespread in the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin,” the exhibition language reads. A famous series of photos, doctored over time, shows the slow, chilling disappearance of men from Stalin’s inner circle — from four party officials in the original image to one. The exhibition raises questions about truth in photography. Is there such a thing? Even if you don’t physically alter the image, isn’t composition itself a form of manipulation? “Sometimes a photograph can be posed because it excludes something,” film director Errol Morris once said. “Isn’t there always an elephant just outside the frame?”

to making sure her father Steve’s memory is never forgotten. She told the mag, “Everything I do in my life I do to make my mum and dad proud. I want to carry on in my dad’s footsteps and make sure that his legacy lives on forever.” The young actress also said that she thinks combining acting with her passion for wildlife provides a great platform. She said, “I see my filming career as an opportunity to get the message of conservation out to an even greater audience.”

Bionic arm and hand can tie shoes,

CHUCK NORRIS

CHUCK NORRIS I Can Fight Anything ... Except Aging The indestructible Chuck Norris has finally met his match ... Father Time. 73-year-old Norris -- sporting a cleanly shaven face -- was spotted out in Hawaii Thursday with his sleeveless t-shirt, sunglasses, and grandpa belly ... actually looking his age for once in his life. It might not be a roundhouse ... but he’s still kickin’.

Obviously, losing an arm creates significant hurdles for everyday life. From complex tasks like playing musical instruments, to simple things like tying a shoe lace or even holding a cup of coffee while trying to open a door, the use of one hand makes day-to-day tasks a challenge. If we lived in the world of Skynet and sentient robotic limbs, people who suffered a grievous limb injury could get right back in the game (not counting the robot war against all humankind of course). Fortunately, it turns out we do live in a world where a robotic arm is attainable, but we thankfully don’t have to be enslaved by machine overlords. Fifty-three-year-old Nigel Ackland was involved in an accident six years ago that resulted in the loss of his arm. In November of last year, he was given the carbon fibre arm and the Bebionic 3 myoelectric hand. Now, using the pair, he can perform some complex actions. The video highlights two actions that, though they are merely afterthoughts to people that have the use of two

hands and all of their digits, actually require a significant amount of dexterity. These everyday tasks are tying a shoe and dealing a deck of cards. Ackland can control the robotic arm via movements from his upper arm. The Bebionic 3 hand’s response to muscle twitches is so precise, that not only can a wearer tie shoelaces and deal cards, but can actually type on a keyboard, and perform the small, exact actions that dressing yourself requires. Though the Bebionic 3 is precise, it still isn’t a real arm, and thus doesn’t offer the manoeuvrability and dexterity your own limb does. To alleviate this issue, the arm’s wrist can spin around and face the other direction, making it much easier to manoeuvre and grab objects — in theory, sometimes even easier than a person’s own arm and wrist. Now, we don’t quite know if this bionic arm makes Ackland a cyborg like you might initially think, as the robotic bits in a cyborg need to provide a person with superhuman powers. However, the arm certainly provides Ackland with the ability to perform two-handed tasks once again, and it doesn’t seem to be too much of a hassle at that. For more information on the hand, head on over to the product website, and be sure to watch more videos of the thing in action, as it’s quite impressive.

Plane captures video of 30,000 metre - descent from edge of space Radio-controlled planes aren’t just for kids and casual hobbyists anymore. With a little planning and experience, an enthusiast can accomplish feats that would have awed NASA a few decades ago. David Windestål from RC Explorer has recently realised his dream of sending an RC plane to the edge of space, then piloting it back down to Earth. The best part is he got it all on video.

Lawmate 1W 1.2GHz transmitter mounted on the FunJet. The transmitter gets a little toasty during use, but that was actually a pleasant side effect. Windestål mounted it right next to the GoPro’s 2200mAh lithium-polymer battery to keep it warm and fully functional. A series of AA Energizer batteries were used to power the transmitter and other electronics as these cells work at much lower temperatures.

The first order of business when planning for this adventure was to decide on an airframe. Windestål eventually settled on a FunJet Multiplex because it is light, durable, and spacious enough to mount a GoPro 2 camera inside. He did have to make some modifications because of the frigid temperatures the plane would experience in the upper atmosphere. It wouldn’t do at all to have the machinery freeze up as it plummeted back down.

The craft also included a GPS chip and a barometer attached to an Arduino Mini to help track its course. An Aurora 9 with an OpenLRS long-range radio running at 2W was used to maintain the RC link on the plane, while Windestål used a larger directional antenna on the ground. Windestål managed to maintain contact with the plane most of the way up, but a technical complication on the ground broke contact. When contact was reestablished, the plane was already in freefall and some of the transmitter antennas had broken off.

The plane was launched with a weather balloon for the trip up to an altitude of about 33,000 metres (about 19 miles). On the way, Windestål was able to monitor the video feed via a

Just when he was about to give up, the plane’s video signal showed up again as it neared the ground. Windestål was able to take control again, and pilot the FunJet in for a (relatively)

safe landing. It travelled 101km and was in the air for 108 minutes, but Windestål managed to find the craft and salvage all the high-resolution video. I can safely say this is the most impressed I’ve ever been by a remote-controlled plane.
