Got my first happy ending today at a massage parlour
OMG Magazine | Thursday 17th October, 2013 • PAGE 5
I’ve never had such impure thoughts My boyfriend Jeffrey has put me through hell – lying, cheating, disloyalty, etc. Sad to say, but I’ve been waking up wanting to end his life for the past few days. I won’t actually do it. I’ve just been wishing it would end somehow. I don’t want to think about this anymore and I don’t want to continue with the thoughts in my head. He’s not bf material right now, but he’s a good person in general. I think I’m going to lose it, though. My mental stability is hanging by a thread.
I have been wanting to do this for like 8 years. I finally got the balls to get it done today. It was so hot and exciting. She was very sexy and seemed into it. Just wanted to start some dialogue around other married guys who love their wives, but just need something different without going out and getting involved with someone else emotionally
I sometimes want to get pregnant so I can give the baby to my mom, who can no longer conceive I am 17. My mom knows I have sex, she knows I use condoms, and we’re planning to get me on birth control. I have only been in a relationship for a month exactly today. For the past 3-4 years, my mom has been trying to get pregnant, with no luck. She’s seen doctors, my stepdad has seen doctors. It’s just not working out for them, and it drives her to tears and she’s so depressed about it. That being said, she asked me what I would do if I did get pregnant. I said I would probably have an abortion, depending on how far along I am when I find out. She then said that she would legally adopt it. Now, part of me wishes I did get pregnant, just so I don’t have to see her like this anymore. But I know if I do, I wouldn’t be able to part with it. I’m not going to poke holes in my boyfriend’s condoms or not take the pill, it’s just something that I would consider if I did get pregnant.
I haven’t had sex in two years I used to have plenty of female companions. Never was a problem. But I lost my job, moved back in with my parents, and ever since it’s been a pathetic, pathetic situation. Went back to school to get a degree after I lost my job. Most of the guys here are getting laid pretty often. Everyone’s having the “college experience.” And I’m just stuck at home. No friends, no parties, no fun. Who cares about the grades? I’m not living. My youth is slipping away.
I find myself always wanting to get involved with non-single guys As long as I have been sexually active I have been attracted to guys who have girlfriends. I don’t look for guys with girlfriends on purpose. It usually starts off as a flirt. I normally don’t know the guy has one, and we’ll just talk. Sometimes I’ve ended up kissing them before I find out they have one, but when I do find out it doesn’t put me off. It’s an automatic challenge. I hate that I don’t have the moral ‘you shouldn’t be kissing someone else’s boyfriend’ attitude. I always justify it with, ‘If they were really happy they wouldn’t do it’. I’m currently having sex talk with a guy I know has a girlfriend. I don’t expect them to leave them and be with me. I guess I just like the attention.

10 ways to find happiness By Dr. Robert Holden
Happiness is life’s most cherished goal. On every continent, in every country and in every culture, when people are asked, “What do you want?” the most popular answer is “happiness.” When parents are asked, “What do you most want for your children?” the answer is “happiness.” Happiness is the goal that makes other life goals—like success, prosperity and relationships—feel meaningful and enjoyable. It’s official—the pursuit of happiness has sped up! We are chasing after happiness faster than ever. And the faster we run, the longer the race becomes. In recent years, our happiness levels have not risen. We are experiencing what researchers call “static happiness.” In the 1940s, when people were asked, “How happy are you?” the average score was 7.7 out of 10. Most recently, the average score was 7.2 out of 10. Are you in search of happiness? Try my 10 tips to find happiness in your life.
Define Happiness
What is your definition of a happy life? Are you living it? Think carefully about this because your definition of happiness will influence every other significant decision in your life. For example, if you think happiness is outside you, you will make happiness into a search, a catch or a reward that you must earn. If, however, you know happiness is inside you, then happiness becomes a compass, a teacher and an enabler that helps you to live your best life.
Accept Happiness
Without self-acceptance, you will limit and block how much happiness, prosperity, love and success you will enjoy. The miracle of self-acceptance is that if you are willing to accept that happiness already exists in you, you will begin to experience more happiness around you. The law of acceptance is what activates the law of attraction. Being willing to accept yourself is the first step to bringing out the best in yourself.
Follow Your Joy
There is a world of difference between searching for happiness and following your joy. Following your joy is about listening
to your heart’s desires, noticing what truly inspires you and recognising your soul’s purpose. A good starting point is to reflect on the question “When am I at my happiest?” People who follow their joy discover a depth of talent and creativity that inspires us all.
Choose Happiness
Some people chase happiness while other people choose happiness. It all depends how much time you want to save. Try to find the place in your mind where you have already decided how good today will be, how good this year will be, how good your life will be. Are you happy with your decision? Set a positive intention right now to let today be even more enjoyable than you thought it was going to be. Photo: © 2009 Jupiterimages Corporation
Free Happiness
A lot of happiness is overlooked because it doesn’t cost anything. If you think money will buy you happiness, you will go shopping for the rest of your life and never be completely satisfied. Money can’t buy you happiness, because happiness is not an “it.” To enjoy some free happiness, make a list of everything in your life that costs no money and is totally priceless, like laughter, friendship, meditation, air, kindness and the stars at night.
Love Someone
To be happy, all you have to do is be the most loving person you can be. People who give their best time, energy and attention to their most important relationships experience more happiness. All too often, our most important relationships have to compete with our chronic busyness, and the busyness often wins. Stop the busyness and think about who you would like to spend more time with, acknowledge more and have more fun with.
Forgive Now
Sometimes, in order to be happy now, you have to be willing to give up all hope for a better past. Everyone knows what it is like to experience a grievance, a disappointment, a wound or a betrayal. Living happily ever after starts with forgiveness. You can’t keep carrying a grievance and hope to be happy. Similarly, you can’t be a victim and be happy. Practicing forgiveness is what releases you from the past and changes your future. Happiness is a gift you give yourself because it sets you free.
Vocal Gratitude
Say out loud three things you are grateful for. Do this right now, before you go on reading this. Gratitude is often referred to as the shortest shortcut to happiness. The more grateful you are, the happier you will feel. Also, it is impossible to be grateful and depressed. Gratitude with a capital “G” is a deep spiritual realisation that you are created perfectly and that everything you have ever wanted—love, joy, peace—is already yours. Beware Martyrdom A martyr believes he has to sacrifice himself and happiness in order to enjoy the good things in life. When you try to play the martyr, you lose and so does everyone else. In particular, what you give becomes more and more conditional, full of hidden emotional invoices that must be returned within 28 days, hours, minutes, seconds. Stop neglecting yourself. Be kind to yourself. Life always gets better when you treat yourself better.
Be Present
Living in the “not now” is a chief cause of unhappiness. The strain of being not present in your own life is simply too great. When you miss out on the present, you miss out on so much. No now; no life. In the English language, the word “present” has three distinct meanings: “here”, “now” and “a gift.” The more present you are in each moment, the more happiness you will find. Happiness is where you are.

Become a Positive thinker by Roya R. Rad
Positive thinking is a significant element of happiness. In order to become a positive thinker, determination and consistency are important. The first thing to know about positive thinking is that everyone can do it. With certain cognitive and behavioral modifications, we can all become positive thinkers. Another important factor is that being a positive thinker does not mean you become numb to anything that is not working properly in your life or is negative -- it just means that you approach life and face challenges with a healthier outlook. To become a positive thinker, these may help you: Change your self-monitoring: Instead of selectively attending to negative events, focus on the positive ones. Then pay attention to the delayed consequences of your behaviour rather than the immediate ones. For example, if a job is not going like you want, focus on the fact that you have a job and how you can take your time to make the situation better. Change your self-evaluation: Challenge any inaccurate internal attributions and see if you compare your behaviour to standards that are excessively rigid and perfectionistic. If so, change these and be reasonable with your comparisons. For example, if you constantly compare your weaknesses with other peoples’ strengths, then switch this and compare yourself with those who are doing poorer than you as well. Overall, people who focus more on their strengths than their weaknesses but at the same time are aware of their weaknesses have a healthier selfevaluation result. Change your self-reinforcement: If you have low rates of self-reward and high rates of selfpunishment when it comes to certain aspects of your life, then you want to modify this. For example, think more of how far you’ve come, how hard you’ve worked, acknowledge yourself for it and then see how much further
you want to go. Draw conclusions with evidence: Look at the evidence, look at the events, look at patterns and don’t base your conclusions on assumptions. For example, don’t just assume someone will cheat you because they look like or in some ways act like an ex you didn’t get along with. Look at other elements to see if there is any evidence for your assumption. Don’t take things personally: The majority of how people interact with you is due to their own personality, strengths, and baggage and does not have as much to do with you. Pay attention to how to differentiate between different interaction signals. For example, instead of immediately getting frustrated because the waitress was a little late attending to you, think that maybe she is having a really tough day or too may tables to take care of. Don’t do “either/or” thinking: Black and white thinking based on perfectionistic thought is counterproductive. Every time a thought pops up and has words like “should” or “must,” challenge it. For example, instead of saying “this should be done this way,” say something like, “I prefer it this way but I am sure there are other ways to do and am willing to be open.” Don’t do emotional reasoning: This is a belief based on feeling alone without any rational thinking behind it. For example, you don’t like such and such but you don’t have any logical reason for not liking them. Challenge your “what if” thoughts: When faced with too much fear about a situation, imagine the worst case scenario and visualise a solution for it, then let go of fear. This way, you will be prepared for anything and your fear would not block you from being open and creative to different solutions. For example, if you are constantly worried about losing your job up to a point where it is creating a lot of anxiety and fear and is affecting your performance and your happiness negatively, then think of losing your job, visualise how you will handle it, find solutions in your mind and then let go of the thought and the fear attached to it. At the end, positive thinkers are better problem-solvers and have better interactions. In addition to that, people who are positive thinkers are happier and more satisfied with their life.
Time for a personal mid-year review this is how! by Merel Bakker
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” -- Søren Kierkegaard
A few months ago, the first companies announced their half-year results for 2013. Referring to the goals they had set themselves at the beginning of the year, they took a moment to reflect on their performance to date, in order to make adjustments where necessary, for the rest of the year. Although this mid-year review in business is mainly driven by the capitalist system we live in, it is a very wise thing to do because growth can only come from understanding, and understanding always comes from reflecting on what has happened; it can indeed, like Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard said: “only be understood backwards.” So, if we wish to keep growing and developing in the right direction ourselves, and if we wish to achieve the goals we had set ourselves in our New Year’s resolutions, writing a personal mid-year review is a great tool to do so!
This is how!
1. Write down the goals you had set yourself at the beginning of the year. It is good to “categorise” your goals. For example: health, family/social life, work, the balance between the both, personal development and living sustainably. 2. Write down how you “performed” in these categories.
have
Next to each goal, simply write down whether you have already succeeded or if you still need to work on it. 3. For each category, write down one or two of the biggest “challenges” you have had as well as one or two things that helped you to do really well. This helps you to determine what “qualities” you can deploy to achieve the goals that are still on the “to do” list. 4. Are there any new goals you would like to set for yourself? In the category “health” and “family life” I have added for example: “Making more home-cooked meals.” In the category “personal development,” I have added: “Being more patient” and “enroll in a course.” And in the category “living sustainably,” “don’t keep the water running when I don’t use it.” 5. Write down in maximum two sentences how you wish to achieve the goals that are “open” on your list. Limiting yourself to maximum two sentences will help you to get right to the point! 6. Write yourself and others a wish to succeed! It is so very important to send yourself and others the strength to accomplish what you and they have wished for; it opens your heart to yourself and others, and this is in the end the key to whatever growth you wish for. Having said that, there is also no other way for me to end this blog then by sending a wish myself: “May I, and all of you, be able to find the strength, wisdom and determination to overcome all challenges and to reach the goals that have been set!” Cheers to “live life forward!”

How to say I love you for the first time If you get butterflies every time you see that special someone, learn how to tell them how you feel.
STEP 1 - Assess your relationship
Assess your time together. Every relationship evolves differently, but it's best to wait at least two months before saying the "L" word.
STEP 2 - Plan ahead
Think ahead to plan something special such as a night out, dinner at home, or ice cream in the park and seize the moment when it feels right -- but don't force it.
STEP 3 - Take a risk
Rely on your inner strength and work up the courage to let the other person know how you feel -- and be prepared to hear that they might not feel the same way.
STEP 4 - Give the person time Give the other person time to adjust and think about it, and tell them directly to not answer until they are ready.
Tip - Be prepared to wait hours or even days for an answer. Don't rush the other person. STEP 5 - Beware of digital traps
Beware of using either e-mail or text messages to say "I love you" for the first time. While they may feel safer, they are too impersonal.
STEP 6 - Be creative
Be creative when it comes to saying "I love you." Signs, notes, and other nonverbal cues can work wonderfully if you keep them personal and genuine.

HOW
TO’S
How to tell if your phone is tapped Modern technology has made it easy for anyone -- not just spies and government agencies - to hijack your private communications. Fortunately, there are ways to tell if you're being monitored.
STEP 1 - Check battery life
Take note of the lifespan of your battery. The phone's battery gets used when it's sending voice or text information to the source of the bug, or if someone is remotely activating the microphone. If the battery life is suddenly significantly shorter than it used to be -- even after getting a new battery -- your phone may be bugged.
Tip - There are phone applications available that monitor battery life and history. STEP 2 - Feel your phone
Check the temperature of your phone. The battery in your cell gets warm when it's being used, so, when you haven't been on the phone, if the phone feels warm, it may have been in use without your knowledge.
STEP 3 - Monitor strange activity
Monitor unusual activity by your phone. If your phone suddenly starts turning on and off by itself, has difficulty shutting down or won't shut down at all, it may be subject to unauthorized use.
STEP 4 - Watch for coded text messages
Watch for coded text messages. If you get a text message that seems like data coding, with numbers and symbols instead of words, this could indicate misdirected attempts at data transmission by someone else.
Tip - If you want to make sure your calls and texts remain private, don't just turn your phone off -take the battery out when you're not using it. STEP 5 - Listen for background noise
Listen for background noise when you're on a call. Echoes, static, or clicking sounds may be caused by line or transmission interference, or by equipment used by someone tapping your call.
STEP 6 - Pay attention to your phone bill
Inspect your phone bill every month. If it indicates a spike in text or data transmission, someone else may be using it.
STEP 7 - Look out for unusual interference
Watch nearby electronic equipment. It is common for phone transmissions to interfere with signals from other phones, computers, radios, and televisions. However, if electronic interference occurs when you're not using the phone, it may be in use by someone else.
STEP 8 - Determine whether your land line is tapped
Find out if your land line is tapped by locating your Serving Area Interface, also known as a B-Box or cross-connect box. Determine which pair of wires, known as the cable pair, are associated with your phone number, and see if there are any duplicate lines or electronic devices connected to them.
Tip - B-Boxes are equipped with locks, but service technicians have passkeys, and many boxes aren't locked at all. STEP 9 - Hire a company to perform a sweep Hire a company to perform a wiretap detection sweep. Many companies offer such services, but they typically only pick up devices being used on your premises.

Why every entrepreneur should unleash their inner artist BY SHARÍ ALEXANDER
The artistic process is very similar to the entrepreneurial path. Both artists and entrepreneurs create something from nothing, face rejection and fine tune their approach to succeed. Since our journeys are so similar, entrepreneurs can learn a thing or two from our artistic brethren. Here are five places to start: 1. Cultivate a willingness to fail. I have profound respect for the craft of stand-up comedy. To be a successful stand-up comic, you have to be willing to fail every time you step on stage. In order to discover what works and what is actually funny, comics have to try out new material in a room full of people, not knowing if they’ll get a laugh or crickets. They succeed and fail publicly every time. You have to be willing to fail so that you can learn what works and what doesn’t. Leaders should approach failure the same way as a comedian. When a comedian’s joke falls flat and the audience is stuck in an uncomfortable silence, the comedian quickly acknowledges the failure and moves on. “Note to self, never tell that joke ever again.” That public acknowledgement lets the audience shift gears and be receptive for the next joke. Leaders sometimes think that admitting mistakes could somehow tarnish their reputation. But the opposite is true. By acknowledging a misstep, your team will be able to shift gears and move forward faster.
2. Have a support group. Actors, painters, writers, and all artists understand the value of finding a safe place to practice their craft, try new things and receive feedback. For this reason artists often attend classes. Entrepreneurs need to find or create a similar support group instead of encasing themselves in the bubble of their business. Creating in a vacuum and only bouncing ideas off employees is limiting. Breakaway and connect with others who are similar, but different. Find people who understand your world as an entrepreneur, but aren’t competing in your space. Masterminds are a great outlet. You might be familiar with the business benefits of being in a mastermind, but have you considered the creative benefits? Your mastermind group can be your safe place to attempt, fail, regroup, and try again. 3. Be brave. Entrepreneurs and artists share one important quality: they both put their heart and soul on the line for others to see and judge. Not everyone in this world has the tenacity, thick skin, or sheer gall to even try such a feat. When you feel the twinge of self-doubt, remember that you are one of the brave few. With every attempt, you are closer to your success. 4. Know when to leave it alone. One skill of the best artists is knowing when to leave their creation alone and walk away. A painting can be perfect and then destroyed with more brush strokes. A book can have a chilling ending and then be ruined with one more chapter. Some entrepreneurs get a buzz from constantly creating, changing, and adjusting. Both artists
and entrepreneurs need to have the ability to acknowledge when something is just right and leave it alone. Sometimes your product doesn’t need a new feature. Your marketing doesn’t need a new ad campaign. Your sales strategy doesn’t need a facelift. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. 5. Know when to scrap it. The artist and the entrepreneur follow the same journey. Try. Fail. Get back up. Fail again. Get back up again. It takes a series of failures to reach the ultimate success. But sometimes a bad idea is just a bad idea (Re: Gigli, Ishtar and the last three Star Wars movies.) This doesn’t mean the attempt didn’t have value. There is something to be learned from every experience. Scrap the bad idea, but apply what you learned from the attempt to your next venture. Trying to make a bad idea work won’t let you experience the joys of being an entrepreneur. Finding different ways to tap into your creative side will make you a well-rounded entrepreneur and leader. There’s an artist inside all of us, just waiting to break free.

5 Branding tips to supercharge your sales BY LEWIS HOWES
Be the brand you always wanted to be BY JIM JOSEPH
The following is the fourth in the series “Personal Branding For A Better Life,” in which marketing expert Jim Joseph applies big brand marketing lessons to help you build a successful personal brand. Brand managers are daily decision makers in disguise. That’s because marketing requires a decision at every turn -- from pricing to distribution to packaging to product taste tests to social media activity. And the same is true for your personal brand. In this series on personal branding, we’ve already made a few of these decisions including how to define your personal brand and how to position and describe it on demand. These are the exact tools big brand marketers use to guide their decisions. When faced with a choice, they benchmark it against their brand’s goals, definition and positioning. The key is for you to do the same in your life, both personally and professionally. When it comes to marketing your personal brand, actions speak louder than words. The choices you make will undoubtedly affect your personal and professional success and happiness. Every move you make can either enhance or damage your brand, so it’s important to be consistent when making decisions over time. These decisions ultimately form who you are as a brand and how others perceive you. Take Meryl Streep, America’s most decorated actress whose personal brand is the result of consistently well-made decisions over the course of her career. Every role she accepts is a decision based
on how she defines herself and what she wants out of life, enhancing her brand and our perception of it. I’m sure the same is true in her personal life too. People with really successful personal brands are incredibly consistent over time and at each crossroad. Paying attention to how they make their decisions can help inform your own. George Clooney or Lady Gaga, for example, stay true to who they are and how they portray themselves. But you should also pay attention to the brands that stray off strategy and get themselves in trouble with bad decisions. We’ve seen a lot of those bad choices in Hollywood and can learn a lot from them too. Collectively, the choices you make along the way in life help to either reinforce or detract from your brand. They attract others or keep them away. So be purposeful with everything you do. If you happen to not like the choices you are making in life, I would argue you are allowing outside influences to sway your decisions and not staying true to your brand. You need to either make new choices or perhaps it’s time for a brand makeover. It’s never too late for one of those. Your brand positioning should guide how you manage your personal brand and how you make decisions. If you hold your positioning up each and every time, you are much more likely to do the right thing for your brand. And when you do what’s right for your brand, you’re doing what’s right for your life.
In business, good branding creates trust and can make it easier to sell a product to customers. While the brands we choose as customers can be reflections of our beliefs and values, the right kind of branding can steer us toward products or services that we may otherwise not have been looking for. So, it makes sense that companies that have great branding can generate more sales. You can improve your own startup’s branding by following these five tips:
1. Be consistent.
Regardless of what your startup is about, it needs to be consistent for people to recognise it as a brand rather than a product. Especially in the earlier stages of a brand, people’s trust is only established once they are confident that they understand what your brand does well and what it stands for. Not sure what I mean about consistency? Think about Starbucks. When we go there, we’ve come to expect great service and personalisation. When you think of film director Michael Bay, you’d probably think of big-budget movies with lots of explosions and special effects. This is consistency. This is about branding. We have these expectations of brands or people who are brands because they have delivered consistently in the past and indirectly promise to continue doing so.
2. Be authentic.
No one likes to be misled. Remember that products become brands when people start to trust what will occur when they interact with the brand. While a small lie may seem necessary, it can have major consequences for a brand if ever exposed. Being yourself should help your message resonate with people. Radio host Howard Stern is an example of authenticity. Lots of people don’t agree with what he says or his sense of humour, but he sticks to his guns and produces his show the way he wants to. Because of that, he has droves of loyal listeners.
3. Focus on a niche.
It can be smarter to focus on winning over smaller demographics one at a time rather than trying to appeal to everyone all the time. Focus on building products for
different niche groups in order to unite all those groups into one single brand. Car manufacturers do this by designing cars that appeal to different segments of their clients. While certain elements like reliability, performance or design features remain brand-centric, their approach is niche in exposing new clients to their brands.
4. Be relatable.
People often connect with brands and other people who evoke an emotional response from them. Controversial movies are talked about a lot because they evoke our emotions. Brands are no different. Make sure you are relating to people’s emotional values such as sharing in their problems or showing empathy. Think of brands like Nike, which relates to its customers’ understanding that winning is difficult through its slogan “Just Do It.”
5. Be extraordinary.
Products don’t become brands for nothing, just like people don’t become known for being simply ordinary. While ordinary is safe, recognition and high praise are given to those who step out of the traditional in favour of the unconventional. While trying to be extraordinary, make sure you don’t stray too far to the left and lose sight of being authentic. An example of this is Apple, which entered the computer space with a product that was designed with the user experience in mind and, at least initially, was less susceptible to viruses than the PC. By doing something extraordinary, rather than doing something slightly better, you attract the attention of many. But you will have to keep it up or people will catch on fast and move on just as quickly.

Soucouyant turns 3D Have you ever wondered what our folklore creatures may look like in this modern day of computer technology and special effects. Well you may get a chance to see yourself very soon. At last years Animae Caribe Animation and Digital Media Festival the best animators from around the Diaspora came together to discuss how the industry can benefit from ‘brain gain’. Many skilled expatriates have the willingness to contribute to the development of the local animation and film industry. New technologies now provide a new way to enable distance cooperation. For the 2013 edition we intend to take this experience one step further, from “talk-towalk” by creating an immersion experience. World-class ‘Trini’ industry professionals will “talk” about their experiences in the animation industry internationally, but in addition to that the audience will be walked through the stages of that experience of a real production ‘The Noka Wheel’ which took place between Trinidad and L.A. The audience will experience firsthand how storytelling, culture, film, animation and visual effects came together using local and international expertise. We are bringing Hollywood home to Trinidad and Tobago! Creator and writer of the film project Shaun Escayg will discuss the challenges, advantages and business relationships he has had to develop in order to successfully work between the two shores. Shaun was born in Trinidad and at age twenty attended the School of Comunication Arts Of Raliegh NC, USA where he pursued a
career in 3D animation. After a successful period in Trinidad, Shaun then migrated and successfully worked for several high end animation companies like, Walt Disney, Red Rover Studios Toronto and Blur Studio where he supervised and animated on Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, Brink , Dc Universe, Transformers and much more. In 2010 Shaun joined Industrial Light & Magic where he worked as an Animator on Michael Bay’s TransformersDark of the Moon. The story ‘Noka Wheel’ also written by Shaun is based on local folklore and is a mesh of live-action and high-end photo real CG animation that was produced both in Trinidad and Hollywood. Working closely with the Full Circle Animation team on the ground here in Trinidad the collaboration achieved several strategic outcomes. One major one being the exposure of our local animators and filmakers to real world experiences. Managing Director of Full circle Animation Studio Jason Lindsay agrees that this experience was a critical learning experience for all involved. “In order for us to achieve a sense of professionalism here on the ground, we have to open up the playing field and allow productions like these to have a place here in Trinidad and the Caribbean to become a reality. By collaborating on this level it allows us to realy feed off of the enthusiasm, professionalism and values of Shaun and his experience in the international arena”. The full behind the scenes experience will be shared at the 12th Animae Caribe Animation and Digital Media Festival. With the collaboration between Full Circle Animation Studio here in Trinidad and his production team in L.A. the audience will able to experience the process from the preproduction and story development stage through to the production. We would see for the first time how our local folklore can evolve into spectacular modern day creatures fit for the world stage. The festival is due to start 28th of October to 2nd November. Check the website www.animaecaribe.com for more information.

God Loves The Local – Trinidad and Tobago film sells out at TTFF [Thursday 10th October 2013] Of all the films of which were exhibited and in competition during the ‘hotter’ Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival, God Loves The Fighter was, without a doubt the hottest ticket in town. Produced by the team of Alexa Bailey and Director Damian Marcano, God Loves The Fighter tells a different side of the tourism-driven ideal in Trinidad and Tobago. The movie is gritty and stark and follows the lives of inhabitants of the island Capital of Port of Spain and depicts how different decisions can lead to better lives or to unexpected turns for the worse. The film was entirely produced and filmed in Trinidad, with an all-local cast of actors. At each of the screenings there was an overwhelming response. Masses of audience members rushed for tickets and stood in lines for hours before the film for first come first served seating. The demand to see the film was so great, that an additional screening was opened at the Movie Towne Multi-screen cinema venue. A second screening room also had to be opened for the free University of the West Indies
(UWI) showing to accommodate the crowds of students and general public gathered outside the UWI Film Building seeking a chance to view this ground-breaking film. At the festival, the film took the Jury award and cash prize for the Best local feature film and also won the coveted People’s Choice Award. The vocal and sometimes controversial responses of the cinema patrons after the film in the official question and answer sessions also gained a certain level of notoriety. While the film was praised for its technical and cinematographic quality, questions on ethnicity, political implications and also the validity of “the truth” shown in the scenarios of the film were raised. Marcano and other members of the cast, who attended most of the screenings, were often called upon to defend some of the approaches to the story and also were praised by audience members for the “realness” of the dialogue. Marcano was also commended for his success achieved in directing local acting talent. As the demand for opportunities to see this film continues, members of the public who missed the Festival continue to request more chances to see this film. The producers have confirmed that there
will be more screenings after Carnival in 2014 for the film’s official nation-wide release. As the buzz on God Loves The Fighter continues into 2014, the Bailey and Marcano team are looking forward to begin production on their second feature film entitled, “A Chance of Rain In Cleveland”. This film has nothing to do with the City in Ohio, USA, but is a story of hope and perseverance about two brothers who escape their abusive uncle for a better chance in the big city of Port of Spain. According to Marcano “I am a filmmaker dedicated to the advancement of Caribbean cinema and I feel that “A Chance of Rain in Cleveland” would be a great stepping-stone. My intention is to create a family friendly film with a PG-13 rating to maximize the audience potential.” The upcoming film has the support of Susanne Bohnet of Serafini Pictures a US based finance and Production Company in Los Angeles California who will serve as the executive producer for the film. Animation on the bus Free ttff community cinema in October Following a successful 2013 film festival, the ttff will resume its community film outreach programme, from October 18 to 26. Sponsored by the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC), the Community Cinema Series will give audiences in San Fernando, Couva, La Brea and Tobago the opportunity to experience the mobile cinema experience in their communities, free of charge. The ttff Community Cinema Series will feature ten films, exploring a diversity of themes and styles. The majority of these films are shorts, while two award-winning features—Pressure by Horace Ové and Rain by Maria Govan—will also be screened. The Community Cinema Series rolls out on October 18 at the San Fernando Hill Recreation Grounds withRain, a critically acclaimed family drama from the Bahamas about a promising young sprinter who seeks family roots after a devastating loss. Rain will be preceded by The Fallen People of The Black Land, an animated short film directed by T&T filmmaker Joanne Haynes.
On Saturday 19 October, the Community Cinema Series proceeds to the NGC Couva Joylanders Pan Theatre, where the classic T&T feature The Panman, directed by Kamalo Deen, will be screened. The saga of a young man from an affluent family turning down a scholarship to play pan, The Panman will be preceded by Jab In The Dark, winner of the ttff/13 People’s Choice Award for Best Short Film. The film’s director, Robert Macfarlane, will be present to introduce and discuss his film. Then on Wednesday 23 October, primary school students and members of the Growing Leaders Foundation Programme will be treated to a series of short films at MovieTowne, Tobago. The Community Cinema Series concludes on Saturday 26 October at the La Brea Community Centre. Held in association with the La Brea Village Council, this event will feature a screening of Pressure, (16+) by acclaimed T&T director Horace Ové. The film traces the journey of a British-born younger son of an immigrant family from Trinidad who finds himself adrift between two cultures. Producer of the film and Programme Director of the ttff, Annabelle Alcazar, will be present for a Q&A session. Admission to the ttff Community Cinema Series is free. All screenings but the Tobago screening will start at 7pm and refreshments will be on sale. North Eleven, the ttff’s Official Screen Partner, will facilitate the technical aspects of the series.
Animation graduate students from the UTT Animation Studies programme took to the communities to share their skills for the start of the ‘Animation in the Community’ series. This year Animae Caribe Festival through the support of the Film Company of Trinidad and Tobago, partnered with YTTEP training agency to take animation to the countryside. Starting in Rio Claro the YTEPP Bus will drive to Mayaro and then head to Toco, Maracas, Valencia, Couva and other rural areas throughout Trinidad and Tobago. The aim of the project is to allow youths in these areas to be exposed to the potential of ICT services and in particular animation and digital media. Carla Foderingham CEO of Trinidad and Tobago Film Company see this as a major focus of their partnership with the Festival. She states “Animation is the new frontier for effectively communicating information to diverse groups.
The Animae Caribe 2013 Outreach sessions will engage T&T communities and provide the opportunity for training and the screening of locally produced content to diverse audiences. The Animae Caribe outreach sessions also act as a tool to raise awareness of the national animation industry and gives youth the opportunity to become involved in this creative sector.” Youths in the communities visited, will participate in intro-courses in 3D and 2D animation as well as a screening and presentation of UTT winning animation student film ‘Solitary Mesa.’ The animators Joel Charles and Cassius Humphrey will also demonstrate how they created their film. The idea of using students to conduct the workshops is a way to encourage youth participation. Seeing their peers share the knowledge of animation, will show the youths that this as a viable option as far as education. Animation is now available at YTEPP and a Diploma at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. These training opportunities feed into the growing pool of animators needed to make the industry grow. For more information or to see if the bus can drive to your community call Meena Mahabir on 465 6751 or check www. animaecaribe.com for updates.

Interview Stephen Doobal | Story Amelia C. Ramjarrie
I am in the backseat of my parent’s car as we are on our way to St. Augustine. On the radio I hear a song. It’s quite catchy and my dad agrees as he joins in with the artiste by singing. I vividly remember the lyrics – ‘Play More Local’. It was refreshing to hear that the word “local” used separate and apart from “elections”. I continued listening to the tune and I couldn’t help but think about the message the singer was promoting: the good old days, a time when music didn’t glamorise violence and drugs. He was promoting awareness of our own culture and music for that is what cements our identity. Our identity should not be recognised at only a season (Carnival) but all year around. Thus, local music should be blaring from our radios all year round. Local artistes should provide us with music to fill our appetites – remember, man cannot live by bread alone. We must thank the artiste, Damian Preston, or the name most would know him as, Mr. Famous, for leading this local music revolution.
Mr. Famous - Play More Local
Mr. Famous hails from the beautiful and tranquil, Toco. He has been singing for over twentytwo years. He has been a part of several bands including Tidal Wave, Chandelier, Roy Cape, Horizon and Charlie’s Roots. However, it’s only now that he has made some headway in establishing his name within the music industry, with the catchy song I heard ‘Play More Local.’ The song was released four months ago and has been receiving great feedback from listeners. The song isn’t just another that falls into one genre; instead, it is a blend of calypso and soca. It encapsulates the wittiness of calypso but maintains the modern-day soca vibes. Chatting with Mr Famous was an eye opener not only to me but I’m sure for others he meets. He wasn’t coy about telling us about his journey and its challenges, for instance, entering calypso competitions held in Toco and placing second to last on three occasions even though he got great reaction from the crowds. Mr Famous was of course disappointed but he used those setbacks as fuel to accomplish his goal. In the end those disappointments were irrelevant. He also added that all upcoming artistes must be prepared to get criticisms and advises that criticism is essential for one to grow, develop and improve on one’s skills and talent. Mr. Famous’ OMG moment happened recently. It was last Thursday at the ‘Fusion’ event. He said that after performing he heard his name being chanted; it was an unbelievable moment as he never experienced that before.

Interview Stephen Doobal | Story Amelia C. Ramjarrie
On Monday 14th October, I received an email from the Film Office of University of the West Indies. The email stated that “The Film Office will be screening local film Between Friends, directed by Omari Jackson, on Tuesday 15 October from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon in the Film Lecture room. Mr. Jackson will introduce the film and be part of a Q&A session after the screening.” I was most excited. I am always intrigued to meet filmmakers as I consider them advanced writers, as they create their stories into visual images. Little did I know that – after looking at Omari’s movie which I truly enjoyed, and asking him questions about his film –I would be writing his story later that day. Omari Jackson is a thirty-nine-yearold film maker who was born in the United States to a Trinidadian mom and Jamaican dad. He studied film at Emerson College at Boston and has travelled a lot. He lived in both Africa and Europe. However, the Caribbean is deeply embedded his thoughts, mind and heart as and he seeks to showcase the region’s talent and explore the monumental possibilities of films and the power they can have on people. Omari was not shy about telling us about the challenges of trying to realise
his dream. He said “the journey has been difficult and lonely”. Through it all he has kept in mind a quote he once heard, “the movie starts when you start” – if you have a goal, in this case, building a Caribbean film industry, then you have to work hard for it and as we all know, hard work doesn’t go unrewarded. Jackson informs us that as part of the plan of building the Caribbean film industry he will be starting a new film soon. He hopes that others will follow suit, putting more films on the market, so the industry will be seen as more viable. As of now, the starting point for all of this is getting people to support Between Friends. As someone who viewed the film, I will not tell you all the details, but I will tell you that it’s about exploration, revelation and change. It’s nothing short of superb. Its sound and visual dynamics are on point. The cinematography is fantastic and the message of the film is powerful. Not sure of my recommendation? Maybe the fact that Between Friends is being shown at several film festivals across the world including the Pan African and African- Diasporic film festivals, will help. Omari’s film has also received a nomination for the African Academy Movie Awards. What is this talented filmmaker’s OMG moment? Omari says his OMG moment was seeing the poster for his film Between Friends at Movie Towne in Port of Spain.

How to burn the most calories Not all exercise is created equal: the best activities for calorie-burning are aerobic and sustained.
STEP 1 - Go running
Go on a run. Keep up an 8.5 mile per hour pace and you’ll burn over 800 calories per hour.
Tip - All of our calories-burned measurements are for a 155-pound person over one hour. If you weigh more, you’ll burn more; if you weigh less, you’ll burn fewer. STEP 2 - Cycle
Ride a bike, stationary or road. It’s relaxing and burns 1,126 calories if you keep up a 20 miles per hour pace.
STEP 3 - Swim
Dive in and swim a few laps. It’s a little less precise, but keep up a moderate pace and you’ll drop around 700 calories.
STEP 4 - Box or spar
Boxing is a great way to relieve stress and practice self-defence. It’ll also melt 800 calories.
STEP 5 - Play racquetball or a similar sport
If you’re the white-collar type, a game of racquetball will give you the chance to burn 700 calories and make Sampson from Accounting look like a fool.
STEP 6 - Row
Row a boat, or a stationary machine if you don’t have one: 600 calories and you get to sit the whole time.
STEP 7 - Jump rope
Sure, it can get a little boring, but 844 calories an hour is no joke, and besides running, it’s the cheapest activity possible.
STEP 8 Have sex
Lastly, sexual intercourse burns up to 300 calories per hour. That’s right: jumping rope is nearly three times better than sex.

Plantains Green smoothie and juice recipes to cleanse body & soul We’re not sure why—it probably has something to do with the juice-cleanse craze—but green juice is the reliever of all gluttonous and debaucherous sins. Ate at restaurants for dinner three nights in a row? Green juice for lunch. Drank a little too much at the office holiday party? Green juice for breakfast. Your wedding’s in a week and you drunkenly had a bacon-cheeseburger at 3 a.m. last night? Green juice for every meal today. It’s the colour of health, all whirled up into a sippable elixir. And these delicious smoothies and juices come in every combo: parsley, spinach, and berry; apple, kale, lemon, ginger; avocado and basil. So before you beat yourself up about eating an extra slice of cake at your kid’s birthday (or, you know, just because), just make sure you have plans to go green.
The many health benefits Plantains belong to the same family as bananas but they have to be cooked to be eaten. Plantains are delicious and can be found in many places in the world.

Here are a few health benefits of plantains: 1,Plantains are very reliable sources of starch and energy.
9, Plantains are famed to be diuretic and can help prevent kidney and bladder problems.
2, Plantains contain a high amount of dietary fibre which helps ensure healthy bowels and reduces constipation. 3, Plantains have more vitamin C than bananas. Consumption of foods rich in vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful oxygen-free radicals. 4, Plantains have more vitamin A than bananas. In addition to being a powerful antioxidant, vitamin A plays a vital role in the visual cycle, maintaining healthy mucus membranes, and enhancing skin complexion. 5, As in bananas, they too are rich sources of B-complex vitamins, particularly high in vitamin-B6 (pyridoxine). Pyridoxine is an important B-complex vitamin that has a beneficial role in the treatment of neuritis, anemia, and to decrease homocystine (one of the causative factors for coronary artery disease (CHD) and stroke episodes) levels in the body. 6,Plantains also contain folates, niacin, riboflavin and thiamin. Folates (folic acid) are essential for healthy pregnancy. 7, Plantains also provide adequate levels of minerals such as iron, magnesium, and phosphorous. Magnesium is essential for bone strengthening and has a cardiac-

Watch: Shahid Kapoor’s killer dance moves in ‘Gandi Baat’ from ‘R... Rajkumar’ Bollywood’s ace choreographer Prabhu Dheva has joined hands with ace dancer Shahid Kapoor for his directorial venture ‘R. Rajkumar’ and result had to ballistic. Same is the case in this newly released song, ‘Gandi Baat’, which has Shahid and Prabhu Dheva shaking a leg. There are some killer moves with lot of energy between Shahid and his director in the song. Shahid Kapoor’s rugged avatar is loved by all and Sonakshi Sinha shows off her sultry moves in the song ‘Gandi Baat’. The song also features southern actress Charmee dancing with Shahid Kapoor and Sonu Sood.
Is Elli Avram the new Sunny Leone? Elli has become a sensation amongst the youth. Read on to know more… Bigg Boss is known to import sex-sirens from the west to our country. Claudia Ciesla and Sunny Leone are a few examples. Though Claudia couldn’t impress the masses with her sexy body, the young brigade of our country went bonkers after porn star Sunny Leone made an appearance on Bigg Boss 5. Not only the youth but some producers (read Mahesh Bhatt) from the tinsel town also went crazy behind the sexsiren and offered her a movie. Sunny became so popular that she went on to become the most searched names on the internet in the year 2012.
And now it looks like Elli Avram is all set to be the new Sunny Leone. Why do we say so, you ask? This Swedish actor who is one of the contestants of Bigg Boss 7 and who is all set to debut opposite Manish Paul in the upcoming movie Mickey Virus has become a sensation among the college boys in Chandigarh who have been putting up the posters of Elli across their hostel rooms. Apparently the college authorities are so fed up with this that they have banned the students from possessing or putting up her posters. With her peaches and cream complexion, svelte figure and looks that entice every man’s imagination, Elli has been tickling the fancy of her male fans in India including the host of Bigg Boss 7, Salman Khan. The eternal bachelor of B-town is so impressed by this Swedish beauty that he is planning to cast her in a movie after she comes out of the mad cap house. Well, ladies and gentlemen, a huge round of applause for the next Sunny Leone please!
The peppy number is surely going to be a hit with the masses and could soon be seen topping the charts. Shahid Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Dheva had launched the song on the sets of popular dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance’. The film has music by Pritam with vocals by hit Punjabi singer and Bollywood’s latest flavour Mika. ‘R... Rajkumar’ is all set to hit theatres in November.

Shahid movie review: Gritty, raw, gripping and guttural! Hansal Mehta’s film on slain real-life lawyer Shahid Azmi is fearless work Stop right here. Shahid is the sort of rare, raw unnerving journey into a socio-political reality that our cinema needs to undertake regularly but seldom does. Our filmmakers largely veer away from doing films whose redolent realism could ruffle political feathers. Fearless and unfettered, Hansal Mehta wastes no time in establishing the monstrous marginalisation of the Muslim community in a society where terrorism has blurred the majority community’s sense of propriety to the extent of unmitigated bigotry. Shahid is an exposition on abject isolation. There is a harrowing sequence of police brutality in the film where the film’s Muslim lawyer-hero sits on the hard floor of a police station, stark naked and shivering as the cop repeatedly accuses Shahid of terror activities. The protagonist’s absolute humiliation at that point in the narration hits us where it hurts the most. Predominantly Shahid is about an impatient society’s need to find scapegoats for the growing violence all around us. In language that embraces the complexities pertaining to the issue of Islamic isolation, Mehta’s film cracks open the code of that unexplored genre of cinema known as the drama of persecution. In Shahid, Mehta chronicles the life of lawyer Shahid Azmi with the kind of deft and clenched directness that one
encounters in the docu-dramas of Costa-Gavras or nearer home, the searching, searing cinema of the uprooted and isolated individual that Adoor Gopalkrishnan specialises in. The silence of the night is punctured by the shrill sound of the phone. Slurred threats are hurled. Taking the abuse on his chin, the crusading lawyer, played with scintillating austerity by Rajkumar Yadav, sits stoically at the centre of the debris of destruction of distrust as he undertakes a jihad to prove the innocence of the arbitrarily accused. There are some highly poignant and electrifying sequences showing the languorous, devastating dinginess of courtrooms that have killed off all chances of justice for the damned. What would those wretched accused, locked up and left to languish for life, have done without Shahid Azmi to fight for their lives? What would Shahid Azmi’s character have been like if he was not portrayed by the very gifted Rajkumar Yadav? This brilliant actor, whose forte is underplaying, imbues Shahid’s role with the kind of tightlyreined tumult and an unspoken anguish that actors in our cinema seldom get a chance to put forward in the characters they play. Here is a performance that deserves a standing ovation, primarily because it doesn’t scream for attention. In comparison, the other performances appear pale and distant, albeit authentic and thoughtful.Tigmanshu Dhulia is notably powerful in a brief cameo as an eminent lawyer. Shahid’s relationship with the divorcee mother is never
satisfactorily rounded up nor assimilated into this courageous man’s fight for justice for those who are condemned not only by law but by social stigmatisation. What comes across with forceful impact is the protagonist’s yen for justice. This man who has suffered the worst humiliation and, suffering in custody, won’t allow the same shame and pain for those who are wrongfully confined. This man means business. We must hear his story. Of course, he pays with his life. Whether it’s Romeo or Shahid, all heroes must come to a suitably sticky end. That’s what you get for trying to be a hero. Sometimes while you try to be larger than life, life creeps up on you to make its own outrageous claims. Shahid is a crucial document of our troubled times. It builds an incredibly gripping case-study of persecution and vindication. The treatment of the subject is never ponderous or polemical. Mehta has set out to convert the slain lawyer’s valorous tale into an authentic exposition on the residue of retribution. But what to do, if the end-result is so darned gripping? Shahid is a must-see film with an absolutely impeccable sub text that can be read as an urgent warning against the politics of isolation practiced by many political parties. Be warned. You might be voting for violence.

Wesley Welch 32, Champs Fleurs
Wesley Welch is a very gifted graphic designer. His work reached out and grabbed my imagination and before I knew it I was obsessed by all that I saw. I became very curious about Wesley and about how he got into graphic designing. Wesley is thirty-two years old and comes from Champs Fleurs. He studied at Lincoln University and is an artist at the W2 Design Unit. Wesley describes himself as a freelance graphic artist/ illustrator. Currently, he is engrossed in the creation of a graphic novel which he began working on a year ago. Before undertaking this project he spent almost a year and a half researching and putting together anthropological details, characters and their biographies and the narrative. He has completed several chapters and over 15,000 persons worldwide have

been drawn to his work, both the visuals and the story they are telling. The graphic novel is set 700 years into the future but it’s an agrarian society. The society is at the peak of its development. We will see the society at its highest and then at its lowest because of the bad decisions that were made. The visuals tell a story that words cannot begin to express. All anime lovers will enjoy this work. For all who are interested in Wesley’s work, prepare for a mind-blowing experience. What was Wesley’s OMG moment? It was the earthquake that occurred on Friday 11th October. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.4 on the Richter scale. Wesley said the tremor threw him off as he is up at night doing work and he feels everything. We’re sure that earthquake was an OMG moment for many.

Chris Brown talks death of the album, next phase of music
Chris Brown has many fans very anxious for his upcoming album, simply titled X. However, he recently caused a stir when teasing that this LP, his sixth studio album, might be his last. Many artists before him have made similar claims, and many more will say it in the future, but there was something more intriguing when the young R&B star made the comment.
Chris Brown
During the release phase of his last body of work, ‘Fortune,’ Brown took a step in a new direction by releasing official singles, with videos, along with additional unreleased cuts and songs that wouldn’t be making the album, directly to iTunes, and as digital releases only.
During early interviews on his forthcoming album, Breezy said that he wanted to film videos for each song, and release them before the album, so fans would get a real visual interpretation of the project. As he becomes as much a video director as he is an artist, the 24-year-old truly exemplifies the 21st century creative individual. Looking toward the future, and his next phase in music, Brown has revealed his thoughts on the state of releasing music, and specifically the decline of the “album.” Speaking with The Guardian UK, Chris says the format is on the way out. “You can blame it on downloads, but the numbers are what they are. After this, maybe I’ll release a single every few months, or release a song; you’re still going to hear my music and videos.” Though his last three albums have not reached the platinum status of his first two, Brown claims his singles, which he has
sold in the millions, are more profitable for him now. “But people won’t bring that up because of the album sales,” he says with regard to people’s comments on his sales. While he shares his feelings on the ever changing climate of the music business, Chris still has high aspirations for releasing a history making album. When talking about his ambitions he says, “To sell groundbreaking numbers on an album. Just to be able to have that moment to say, I did it. So as like, I have a stamp. I would really like to mean something to the world, instead of me just being this fungus.” A fungus? Yea, he really referred to himself as a fungus, continuing: “Yeah, like the decay of society. I don’t want to be the decay of society, I’d like to be the uplifting part.”
Looks Like Someone Beat Up Shia LaBeouf for Being A Gross Human Being Everybody knows that Shia LaBeouf is a great big douchebag -- that's not up for debate, because we do not debate facts. But according to this new report, he's actually a creepy douchebag too, which is all the worse. Do you want to hear all about it? Of course! Here's what allegedly went down: Shia was out and about in London, wandering around, when he came across two women. One of the women was vomiting, apparently from a little too much booze. So what did Shia do? Did he check to see if the woman was OK? Did he offer to help in some way? Did he just ignore the issue and keep on walking? Nope, he reportedly did the creepiest thing possible: he filmed her. He took a video of a stranger vomiting. Because that is (allegedly!) the kind of guy Shia is.
The ladies told Shia to stop filming -- which makes it sound like he was right up in their business, because how else would they notice? -- but he didn't. And that's when some other guy stepped in to hit Shia, and then kick him in the testicles. Some dudes separated Shia and his testicle kicker, and they went their own ways. And then the girl who had been filmed being sick made this statement: "I only realised it was Shia after he'd been beaten up. If I'd known, I'd have let him film me as much as he liked. I have a massive crush on him." OK, kids, listen up: violence is never OK, and neither is filming strangers getting sick, and neither is regretting telling strangers to stop filming you being sick. Are we all clear? This whole story says something really sad about our world, doesn't it?

Zheng Yanliang, Chinese farmer, amputates own right leg with fruit knife and hacksaw A Chinese farmer suffering from blood clot complications reportedly took the problem into his own hands by amputating his right leg. Zheng Yanliang, 47, who lives near the city of Boading in China's Hefei Province, first began to experience pain in his leg in January 2011. He had no money to pay for a doctor-recommended amputation.
Doctors gave Yanliang painkillers, but the pills didn't have any effect on the arterial embolism in his leg. His health deteriorated, and doctors gave him three months to live, according to Sky News. What came next is both amazing and unbelievable to other outlets that tried to confirm Yanliang's
story. One night in April 2012, he reportedly used a hacksaw and fruit knife to cut off his leg a little less than six inches below the hip. He saved his own life. "...I used the knife to slice the skin and pull it back so I could see the bone. Then I used the saw to slice through the bone after putting a belt around the leg to stop the blood flow," he said according to HuffPost UK. "I did not want to distress my wife, but I had to wake her when the hacksaw blade broke." Zheng has reportedly recovered from the DIY amputation. Now he needs to have his other leg amputated. This time, he won't have to do it himself, according to the Daily Star. Shanghai-based doctor Zhang Qiang said he'd offer his services for free, the paper reported.

Selena Gomez and Drake would make the... weirdest couple Selena and Drake, right? Totally weird. Totally unexpected. Totally not happening at the moment (though it sounds like Selena Gomez would definitely be all right with it) and totally pissing Amanda Bynes off wherever she is right now, perhaps. Gomez recently did an interview where she brought up Drake's name, saying that she refers to him as her "baby," though the two aren't dating, and says that she pretends Drake does different things just for her: "I'm like, 'Awww [Drake] did that for me,' when it's like, he did it on Twitter. I'm like, 'My baby did that for me!' ... [But] I just don't have a big enough butt for Drake." Selena and Drake -- could they be adorable together? Does booty size really mean that much to Drake? What does that even mean, "My baby did that for me"? Is Selena losing her mind? So many questions, guys, and all the answers are ... well, they're weird, OK?

Sprite may be the best hangover cure, Chinese researchers say Most of us are familiar with the pounding headaches, drowsiness, stomach-turning nausea and "did-I-get-run-over-by-a-bus" sensation that comes with that most dreaded of morning-after ailments: the hangover. To alleviate the suffering, chugging coffee, downing Advil or simply choosing to forego the wretched day altogether by returning to bed sometimes does the trick. But what if there were a miracle elixir that could chase that hangover cloud away -- and better still, what if that magic drink were something you could easily pick up at your local supermarket? A group of Chinese researchers say that they may have indeed found this perfect hangover cure -- and it goes by the name of "Sprite."
After examining 57 beverages in a lab, researcher Hua-Bin Li and his colleagues at Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou determined that Sprite was one of the drinks that best relieved hangover symptoms. The team of scientists had hypothesised that what you consume after drinking booze could alter the effect of alcohol on your body. Specifically, they theorised that certain drinks could impact the body's metabolism of alcohol in a way that would help alleviate hangover symptoms. Chemistry World explains it this way: Some of the adverse effects of alcohol are thought to be caused, not by the ethanol itself, but by ethanol’s first metabolite, acetaldehyde. Ethanol is metabolized into acetaldehyde by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and then into acetate by aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH). Unlike acetaldehyde, acetate is innocuous and may even be responsible for some of the positive health benefits of alcohol consumption. Therefore the key to reducing alcohol-related damage lies in minimising the amount of time acetaldehyde is present in the body. The Chinese researchers, therefore, decided that they would look at how the different beverages impacted the activity of ADH and ALDH. Some beverages were found to be
terrible for a hangover. An herbal infusion with hemp seeds, for example, was discovered to boost the activity of ADH while inhibiting ALDH, therefore slowing down the breakdown of acetaldehyde and dragging out the hangover effects. On the other hand, some drinks, including Sprite (known in China as Xue bi) and a type of soda water, were found to have the opposite effect: increasing the activity of ALDH and thus speeding up the breakdown of acetaldehyde. The researchers are reportedly planning to conduct the tests in living organisms, but the results have already generated a lot of buzz, as people around the world celebrate the possible death of the hangover. However, experts warn that we shouldn't quite raise the victory flag just yet. Edzard Ernst, a medicinal science expert from the University of Exeter, told Chemistry World that while he found the study interesting, more research is necessary before we wholeheartedly embrace the results.

Paula Patton talks Robin Thicke's 'big d*ck' in Glamour magazine "Blurred Lines," the official song of the summer, has been picked apart from many angles: the naked models, the "rapey" lyrics, the comeback of its lead, Robin Thicke. But what hasn't been discussed up until now is the veracity of one of the scenes from the music video, the one that shows a giant balloon sculpture spelling out: Paula patton and Robin Thicke
Paula Patton, Thicke's prettier half and wife of eight years, opened up to Glamour magazine's
November issue (on newsstands now) about her husband's anatomy. "It's cool, it's funny, it's awesome!" said Patton, 37, of the balloon message. Asked whether it's accurate, she added: "Robin's like, 'Listen, if I'm, you know, in the Miami Heat's locker room, I don't know where I stand, but...' But I think that the statement is fairly accurate!" There you have it folks. The "Blurred Lines" video is fact checked and ready to rock. For more with Patton, like her first kiss with Thicke and her glamorous red carpet looks, pick up an issue of Glamour today.
Horrifying Halloween decorations terrify neighbourhood, prompt 911 call Johnnie Mullins' neighbours love Halloween as much as the next heathen, but they think his decorations this year crossed the line from fun-scary to scary-callthe-cops-there's-a-deadbody-in-our-neighbour'sdriveway.
"My heart about came out of my chest. I thought ‘Oh my God,'" said neighbour Rebecca Fuentes. "If I think it's real, just think of what a child would think?"
"Just trying to scare people, that's what I like to do," Mullins, of Mustang, Oklahoma, told News9 in defence of his "Halloween prank": Two fake bodies that appear to have met a bloody demise outside his house.
But Mullins said the police officers and firefighters who responded to the call were nice about it and told him he wasn't doing anything illegal.
The children "don't freak out or anything," Mullins insists, but it seems the adults are freaking out enough for everyone. One neighbour was apparently so persuaded by how lifelike the dead bodies look that they dialed 911.
"It's Halloween. I don't think it's too far," said Mullins, who has since added another body to his display.
Mark Zuckerberg spends $30m buying four houses to protect his privacy Mark Zuckerberg is a billionaire on paper, and it’s all thanks to Facebook. But while his social network doesn’t like anything of yours to be private, Zuckerberg is willing to spend millions protecting his own privacy in the real world. Last week Zuckerberg spent over $30 million purchasing not one, but four houses which he has no intention of living in. The reason for the purchase? His privacy when at home. The four houses are located next to Zuckerberg’s current home in Palo Alto, California. Apparently one of the houses was set to be purchased by a developer who was going to make it larger and resell it as the house next door to Zuckerberg. That makes
sense as it’s sure to add a premium to the price, but Zuckerberg clearly didn’t like the idea of someone willing to pay a premium to live next door being that close. His solution was to buy all the surrounding houses and with that stop any developer marketing such a house in the future. It also means Zuckerberg is free to choose who lives there, and in the process protects his own privacy while collecting rent every month. Alternatively, he may decide to turn the other buildings into his own little complex. I guess I’d have one as a gym and another as a movie theater. $30 million is a lot of money to the average person, but not to Zuckerberg. It’s also going to be seen as an investment by his accountant as the value of the houses is probably set to grow in the coming years even if he decides to do nothing with them.

Flesh-Eating Drug Krokodil Is Now Attacking Chicago Suburbs The flesh-eating drug Krokodil made its horrifying United States debut two weeks ago in Arizona, but as many feared, its use has spread: there have now been three reports of the drug in a Chicago suburb. Krokodil, the inexpensive “heroin substitute” that is really just a mix of codeine and gas or paint thinner, causes gangrene, abscesses, and skin to fall off the bone. A hit of the drug costs only $8 compared to the $25-30 premium for heroin. But when thinking about longterm investment, heroin might make more sense if you’d like to keep your skin. Dr. Abhin Singla of the Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet tells of walking into the hospital Monday when he "overheard a nurse speaking about heroin and then caught the distinctive odour of rotting flesh.” According to Dr. Singla, all the three patients being treated at the hospital have similar backgrounds: they’re all female, they’re all between the ages of 18 and 25, and they all come from middle-class backgrounds in the suburban Joliet area. While one of the patients knew she was
taking the drug, the other two— frighteningly—did not. Joliet doctors are now in the beginning of an “excruciatingly painful fight to save their arms, legs, fingers and toes from amputation and their skin from rotting away.” Will County already struggles with a “burgeoning” heroin epidemic and officials are concernedthis might be the beginning of a much greater Krokodil problem.
Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart
Jennifer Lopez, Casper Smart split coming? Tabloid claims couple heading for breakup Are Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart headed for a split? RadarOnline.com claims Lopez and her much younger beau are inching toward a breakup following a "mini-split" in June. She has reportedly tried to end the relationship multiple times, but his close bond with her twins, Max and Emme, has made it difficult. Still, Radar's sources claim she feels they are at very different places in their lives and doesn't want to repeat past mistakes. “Jennifer is pretty private about the relationship, but she’s been hinting that the spark is gone,” a supposed source close to the 44-year-old said. “She’s having a hard time ignoring the fact that her head has been telling her for a while that this thing with Casper isn’t forever. And now her heart’s saying the same thing.”
GossipCop quashed claims of a LopezCasper split, citing an "actual" source close to the situation who said the recent report is "absolutely false." In the October 2013 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, Lopez discussed her love for her 26-year-old boyfriend, whom she has been dating since 2011. "For me, it's about having a great partner to walk this life with," she said. "I have my own high standards for what I want in a partner and how I want to be treated. I bring a lot to the table. I'm not talking about material things but what I have to offer as a person – love and loyalty and all the things that make a good relationship." The two were last spotted strolling hand-inhand while shopping around Beverly Hills on Sept. 17, E! News noted. He was noticeably absent when she attended the 2013 Human Rights Campaign National Dinner on Oct. 5 to accept the Ally for Equality Award.
