HOTTY

Sherisse Collymore 19, Gasparillo Three things about yourself that you like and why? I love music and theatre because I grew up in that atmosphere. Hanging out with my friends and family. I love my voice and my ability to sing and soon you will be hearing lots from me. What is your OMG moment? I was in Zen looking really pretty, striding down the stairs with my best posture and as I stepped down to the landing, I almost slipped and fell in front of a crowd… but I was able to scramble and stop the fall before I hit the ground… it was like OMG! worst question

ever... I broke an iPad

I realise it’s not a huge deal but someone gave me a second generation iPad recently as well as a very sturdy, expensive case. To some that may not mean much but it’s a lot to me and it was very helpful for me to have at work. Today I dropped it from shoulder height (in the case). It fell on the corner with the power button. The entire screen is cracked and the screen and unit are separated at that corner so I can see inside the device. I feel absolutely terrible because it was a gift. I feel like I should offer to pay him back for it.

I am now addicted

It all started during a break my girlfriend and I were on. During the break, I started talking to people online. When the break was over, I didn’t stop talking to the people online, sexting with and trading nudes with them. And of course, I was caught. But I didn’t stop, because by that point I was addicted.

I really miss the affection I’m way too embarrassed to post this on Ask Reddit... I work with a girl that I stalked a little on Facebook because I didn’t have the balls to ask her out. Now I got the “this link may be broken or removed”. Now my worst fear is finding out she found out I searched her too many times and banned me. Is it possible for her find that out? Is FB just trying to say “ok bro you had enough time creepily watching her now man up and ask her out or gtfo” or could it be the page is actually just broken or removed? I feel like I was just caught watching cp or snuff videos... and now I am scared to see her at work... I tried googling to see but couldn’t find answers so I turn to my fellow confessors... thank you

It’s been nearly four years since my last serious intimate encounter/temporary relationship with a female. I’m 22 years old now (23 next month) and male. For some reason, I’ve had the most difficult time trying to get myself back into the game. I go to a school where hundreds of beautiful, talented, interesting females roam the campus from every corner. Every class I’ve been enrolled in has had at least one worthy candidate for the taking. And I’m not even the type of guy that completely shuts himself out from the world. I may have my (many) moments where staying home all day doing a whole lot of bumming is the norm, but I sure as hell know how to have fun whenever the opportunity comes by.

I pretty much never wash my hands After I go to the bathroom I run the water for a bit so that people think I’m washing my hands, but I’m actually just standing there looking in the mirror. I don’t wash my hands before I cook either. I even have a job that involves handling faeces (nurse’s assistant), but I very rarely wash my hands at work. I wear gloves whenever I handle waste so what’s the point? I’ll just use hand sanitiser and call it good. Probably the only time I actually wash my hands is if there’s someone in the room with me who would notice that I didn’t wash my hands when I was supposed to. I simply do not like to wash my hands. I don’t like the feeling of water on my hands, and the soap always makes my skin dry. Also, it is good for my immune system to be exposed to germs often. I might come down with a mild illness once a year or so around cold season, but for the most part I am very healthy.

How to Fall Asleep Fast

Are you tired of lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, wishing sleep would come? Try these lab-tested tips. STEP 1 Time your workouts

Get some exercise during the day. People who are physically active fall asleep faster and sleep better overall, as long as they don’t exert themselves within three hours of bedtime.

STEP 2 Get off the cell phone

Turn off your cell phone at least an hour before going to bed. One study indicated that being exposed to cell phone radiation before going to bed may compromise sleep quality.

STEP 3 Get a whiff of this

Put a few drops of vanilla oil on a tissue and tuck it inside your pillowcase. Studies have indicated the scent may help people nod off faster than they normally would, and get them into the REM, or dream state, more quickly.

STEP 4 Picture this

Imagine a scene that is pleasant and soothing to you. This may help you relax enough to fall asleep.

STEP 5 - Take a pill

Still not asleep? Take a tablet of melatonin, an over-the-counter hormone that promotes sleep. It proved effective in a study of nurses who took it to deal with the sleep problems brought on by shift work.

STEP 6 Don’t force it

If nothing is working, get out of bed, keep the lights dim, and do something -- as long as it doesn’t involve turning on an electronic device, which will only stimulate your further. Return to bed when you feel drowsy.

Tip - The scent of lavender may help people fall asleep, too.

HOW

How to Commit to

a Relationship

OK, so there’s that word. The word that scares the shit out of some people. Commitment. It’s easy, if you stay committed. Ok, but what you mainly have to do is this. Step 1 - Think.

You’re wanting to stay committed. Why? Because you love the person. You already know what you want out of this. You want a relationship that is stable.

Step 2 - Act. You know what you want. Now just apply it. You can do this by picking out all the amazing things about this person, such as amazing cooking, great personality, kind to others. Just simple stuff like that. Step 3 - Compare.

Now if you take anyone else, think, everyone is different. Wishing to be

with someone else is a waste of the person you’re with. You are with this person for a reason. Why would you not want to stay committed? Yes. Committed means staying with that person for a long, long, long, long time. You can do it. It’s possible.

Step 4 - Smile.

Smile about this, you’re in love. Not many people can find the courage to stay committed. At the end it matters if you really do love this person or not.

“It Runs In

The Family!” Raymond Choo Kong Productions

What’s HOT in 2013? RCKP is Sizzling! This July, Raymond Choo Kong Productions’ widely anticipated, brand new comedy, ‘It runs in the Family!’ hits NAPA Port of Spain Friday 12 to Sunday 14 July, 2013, for THREE (3) SHOWS ONLY! And you are invited. IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY!, is set in the controversial Mt Hope General Hospital, where our story follows Dr. Collimore – played by Raymond Choo Kong – who is about to make the speech of a lifetime. But before he could steady his nerves and join over 200 hundred cardiologists from around the world in the lecture hall, he would have to fend off his overly supportive wife – played by Patti-Ann Ali, his dim-witted colleagues Doctors Coon Coon and Cruickshank (Kearn Samuel and Trevon C. Jugmohan) both of whom have been busy rehearsing for a phantom concert, a pompous Matron (Abeo Jackson) and the hottest Nurse this side of the NWRHA (Gyerlini Clarke). Besides the hospital staff, Dr. Collimore would be interrupted by several casualties and he would also be on the receiving end of the biggest shock of his life, when an old flame (played by Tracey Edwards and Ramona Tim Kee) reveals a blast from their past, after one of their many rendezvous eighteen years ago. As

the comedy ensues, the onstage cast is joined by a dysfunctional Punk (Charles Michael Reid), an irate Police Sargent (Chris Smith), a long tern patient having the time of his life – Bill (Arnold “Peenie” Goindhan), Mother Coon Coon (Netfa Haynes) and to cap off this incredible cast is the actual Head Doctor of the actual Mt Hope Hospital, Dr. Helmer Hilwig (in the role Sir Wiloughby Drake – Dr. Collimore’s Superior). “There’s nothing like working with Young Actors,” confessed Raymond Choo Kong, “seeing them grow, or take what you’ve thought them and watch them make it theirs, to me it’s priceless. I encourage any and everyone who has the drive to become a part of the theatre, even if it’s by coming and see your very first play… I’d suggest coming to It runs in the family!” he ended with a smile. When NAPA opens their box office on Monday 8th July at 12noon to 6pm DAILY, we hope you’d be in line waiting to get your tickets for IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY! Friday 12 to Sunday 14 July, 2013. Interview by Stephen Doobal and written by Amelia C. Ramjarrie

OMG had a chance to speak with Erphaan Alves recently. He is humble, kind and is deeply appreciative of all the support and success that has come his way. He seized the opportunity to thank his family for supporting his career choice from the beginning. The OMG encounter, summarized, would be, “Nothing that has any worth comes easy! If you want success, you must be prepared to work hard for it”. Erphaan Alves is a 21-year-old singer, songwriter and producer who lives in Chaguanas. His singing career began at the age of nine when he attended a show where Scrunter was performing. The ever-popular soca and parang star called all the children on stage and Erphaan was fortunate to be one of them. Scrunter offered little Erphaan the microphone to sing and he didn’t want to let go as he enjoyed performing. Moments after the boy finished singing on stage, his dad asked him if he was interested in singing and entering calypso competitions at his primary school. He said yes and it was the beginning of something special. When he entered, the calypso world of competition at primary school he won the monarchy for three consecutive years, from 2001 to 2003. Erphaan was also successful in other competitions he entered. He was a finalist in the last of the Twelve and Under series in 2003, the Junior Soca Monarch Competition and the TV6 Sound Stage Competition in 2004. He won the Xante Calypso Monarch, 2002 and he was the first runnerup in T&T Idol Calypso Competition, 2004. In keeping with Einstein’s edict Erphaan kept moving because he didn’t want to lose the balance on his (bicycle) life. In 2005, he won the Is We Community Developers Calypso Competition , he was the first runner-up in TUCO National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition and he won Best East Zone Performer prize. Additionally, Erphaan placed second in both the Chaguanas Borough and Secondary Schools Calypso Monarch competitions and in the TSTT Party Flava Face-off Song Competition. However, he hungered for even more success, fuelled by his passion, music. In 2006, Erphaan placed second in both the Sunshine Snacks National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition and the Junior Soca Monarch Competition. In 2007, he placed second in

the Junior Soca Monarch Competition and fourth in the Sunshine Snacks National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition. Many may wonder how he was able to accomplish so much. Truth is persistence, dedication and hard work all were key ingredients in his many successes. In 2009 he received a pleasant surprise. He was given an award for Excellence and Outstanding Achievement by the National Youth Action Committee in the “Top 20 Stars oft Tomorrow Awards, 2008.” He also regained his title as the Junior Soca Monarch and was selected as a semi- finalist in the International Groovy Soca Monarch show. He was also able to release many tracks including “Rain” and “Social Mobility”. It’s no secret that he is a talented singer but Erphaan is also gifted in the art of writing songs. He wrote songs like ”Precision Wine” sung by Kes Dieffenthaller, “Wine Your Body” by Shal Marshall ,“Take You Home” and “Doh Fraid” sung by Machel Montano, “Land of Wine” performed by Teddyson John who placed first in the St Lucia Groovy Soca Monarch competition last year. In the same year he was named Best New Male Soca Artiste in the International Soca Awards and had his first hit song, “In Your Eyes”. In 2013 he was an International Power Soca Monarch semi-finalist. Currently, he is basking in his achievement of graduating from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine with a degree in Musical Arts, while working on island riddims for St. Lucia, Grenada and St. Vincent. Songs which he collaborated on with Talpree and another with King Bubba will be released very soon. Erphaan has included in his plans for the future not only creating, singing and performing music but also the building of his own clothing store where he can create his own branding and designs. Erphaan says his OMG moment must be the time when his mother found out that he threw away the food she cooked and prepared for him. “She dragged me to the back of the school churchyard and gave me the licking of my life. It was an event the school and I will never forget, because many of my classmates saw the entire thing through the windows upstairs of the school…. (lmao)… OMG!”

Interview Stephen Doobal | Story Amelia C. Ramjarrie

I enjoy looking at football but I have fallen in love with motor car racing. I like the sight of cars racing around a track at 200 mph, I love the sound of the engines as they roar past and the smell of burnt rubber, I love the groups of people who are loyal to the driver they are supporting. Mostly I am enthralled by the fierce competition that lies at the heart of the sport because each driver has awesome skills. So when I heard that motor racing icon Frankie Boodram was having a car show on July 13-14, I was like a child at Christmas. I am so excited, I can’t believe after years of waiting for an event like this, it is finally here. Mr Boodram wants Trinidad to grow in terms of motor racing which has a massive global following. He believes if that happens it will provide considerable recognition, tourism and revenue opportunities for the country.

Mr Boodram, who is now 67 years old, is known for his ground-breaking achievements in motorcross racing. He was one of the first persons to begin racing in Trinidad. At age 18, he started his own spare parts shop in Chaguanas. After a few years he got married and was able to open a spare parts shop in a space he was offered in Tunapuna. He began building engines and attracting racing drivers. Thrilled by the sport and cars, he decided he wanted to throw his hat in the ring. At the age of 20, Boodram began to race and it quickly became his passion. He was able to break records in the Caribbean and he also raced in England, Germany and United States of America. Boodram wasn’t shy to say that it took a lot of hard work, persistence and practice to be successful. He wants to share his passion with others, hence the event he is having this weekend. As a man who has a huge amount of experience in the motor car racing world, Frankie was sure to relate a great OMG moment to us, so we felt. Indeed so it was. He told us about one of his crashes. After testing his racing car, he decided to put on new tyres but he wasn’t aware of a flaw in the set-up with the new tyres. The result was that during the race the car hurtled almost 30 feet in the air. Fortunately it landed on its wheels. Frankie was bruised badly, but was able to walk away in one piece…OMG!

artistof the week

I appreciate art greatly because it gives insight into an artist’s thinking and technique even as it radiates its own special mystery. Every line, dot and stroke adds to the portrait of the artist since the artist’s work represents his emotions, beliefs, likes and dislikes. It can inspire, alter an opinion and even bring hope. Thus, one must respect artists. They have two special skills: patience and perseverance. I am 100 percent positive that the artist Reuben Gonzales will agree with me. Reuben is a 20-year-old from San Juan. His skills are exceptional. He can paint in any medium including watercolours and acrylic. He does figurative sketches and illustrations but he can paint, draw and sketch just about anything. However, this artist says he enjoys experimenting with flora especially the hibiscus because he has grown fond of it. He’s so in love with art that he found regular work doing something where he can exhibit his talent – he’s an illustrator at C.R.E.A.T.E. Strategies Limited-.

Reuben said there are three artists who have influenced him greatly. They are Peter Minshall, Shalini Seereeram and Luise Kimme . He described them as hugely talented and he has grown to love their unique perspectives, approaches and aesthetics. They are all bold and superbly confident in their interpretation of certain things, hence, their phenomenal styles and output. Reuben added that he has his own style – as he matured he has been able to develop it. The exhibition “Eden” will be a good opportunity for many to view his amazing talent and art pieces. This exhibition is from August 2-12 at the Art Society. The exhibition is a collaborative effort involving his friends and fellow artists Gabrielle Gabro and Sarah Borough. As for Reuben’s future endeavours, he wants to study design because his dream is to create costumes for both the theatre and Carnival. We at OMG were really excited to find out about Reuben’s OMG moment. He stated that it occurred when he was helping with the setting up of stalls for an event they were having at his old school, Queen’s Royal College. The entire time he was helping he kept seeing someone who looked similar to his role model, Shalini Seereeram. He finally got the courage to ask her and she replied yes, she was Shalini Seereeram. Reuben couldn’t believe all this time he was interacting with her.

smelly feet? Poor personal hygiene can have significant implications on the success of job applications or the chance of promotion; no company wants to be represented by someone who does not appear to be able to look after themselves. Maintaining a high level of personal hygiene will help to increase selfesteem and confidence, while minimising the chances of developing imperfections. Failure to keep up a standard of hygiene can have many implications. Not only is there an increased risk of getting an infection or illness, but there are many social and psychological aspects that can be affected. Today OMG magazine team wanted to deal with that smelly feet and shoes and how to send that uncomfortable situation into to your past. Check out these steps to loveable feet.

Step 7

Step 1 Wash your feet. It sounds obvious, but a quick rub with soapy water in the shower isn’t enough. The objective here is to get rid of any bacteria and dead skin cells that bacteria like to feed on. So when you wash your feet, exfoliate the entire surface of your foot with a washcloth, brush, or any other abrasive mechanism and use anti-bacterial soap. Don’t forget to scrub between your toes, either.

Step 4

Put antiperspirant on your feet. Take that stick of antiperspirant and rub it on your feet. Sprays will work as well. Make sure it’s antiperspirant though and not deodorant--deodorant just covers up smells. Antiperspirant actually reacts with the electrolytes in sweat to form “gel plugs” that block off your sweat ducts. Since each one of your feet has over 250,000 sweat glands[1] (more sweat glands per inch than any other part of your body[2]) a little antiperspirant can go a long way.

Use deodorant. The same deodorant you apply under your arms could also be used for your feet. Just make sure to get a separate deodorant stick for each area.

Step 8 Step 2 Dry your feet. When you dry your feet, dry them completely. Moisture, whether it’s water or sweat, is what creates a fertile breeding ground for bacteria, Take the time to dry your feet thoroughly and don’t neglect the space between your toes.

Step 5 Keep a mixture of 1/2 regular vinegar (already 95% water) and 1/2 isopropyl alcohol (“rubbing alcohol”). Dribble this daily (use a medicine dropper) over and between your toes and irritated skin on the feet and spread it. Both products are harmless to your skin, but the vinegar kills fungus and the alcohol inhibits or kills bacteria. It also helps get rid of toe fungus on contact.

Step 6

Rub your feet with one or more of the following powders. Do this between your toes as well. This is what most foot powders and sprays contain to combat foot odor:

Talcum powder. It’s an astringent, so it’ll dry out your feet.

Wear sandals or open-toed shoes. This is so your feet stay cool and you don’t produce as much sweat. Even when you do, it evaporates due to air circulation. If you can’t wear sandals, go for leather or canvas shoes which allow your feet to “breathe,” and steer clear of rubber and plastic shoes.

Step 3

Baking soda. This creates an alkaline environment that’s not bacteria-friendly.

Use hand sanitizer. It may sound weird, but a good scented (or unscented) hand sanitizer can kill germs on your feet and inhibit bacterial growth.

Corn starch. This helps absorb sweat.

Step 1

Target Your Socks and Shoes Try cedar wood or cloves. Put cedar wood (special Cedarsoles at best) or some cloves inside your shoes. The odor will disappear after a few days.

Step 2 Change your socks daily with laundered ones. Colored socks seem to be more prone to bacteria and the resulting smell more so than white socks. When you wash your socks, turn them inside out in the washer so the dead flakes of skin have a better chance of being washed away. When you do need to wear socks, go for absorbent ones made of cotton or wool. Non-absorbent socks (like nylon) trap moisture around your foot, making a cozy little nook for bacteria. If possible, change your socks more than once a day, and never wear a pair of socks more than once without washing them. Unless using open shoes you should always wear socks. Try two pair of socks to help with the wicking of moisture away from the foot.

Step 3 Lightly powder shoes and socks daily with baking soda. Dust out yesterday’s baking soda before adding in the fresh amount.

Home Remedies For Curing Foot Odor Step 1 Soak your feet. Believe it or not, your feet can produce a whopping half liter (over 2 cups) of sweat in one day. [3] Some solutions will dry out your feet, and others will make the surface of your feet inhospitable to bacteria.

Step 2 Use bleach. Add about two tablespoons (1 ounce) of bleach to a gallon of warm water. Do this 5 to 10 minutes a day for a week. If you find this soak to be drying to your skin, you may apply a little baby oil. Bleach your white socks too in the laundry. If your shoes can withstand it, add the same solution to the insides of your shoes and soak them down. Wait 1/2 hour and then just rinse them out in the sink. Dry them thoroughly before wearing them again.

Step 3 \Do a tea soak. Soak your feet in tea 30 minutes a day for one week. The tannic acid in the tea will dry out your skin.

Step 4 Use salt water. Apply half a cup of kosher salt for every quart of water. After soaking, don’t rinse your feet and just dry thoroughly.[6] [7]

Step 4

Step 5

Rotate your shoes. Let your shoes dry out completely so that bacteria don’t set up camp in there. It takes at least 24 hours for a shoe to dry out completely

Apply aluminum acetate. This will dry out your feet. Mix 1 packet Domeboro powder or 2 tablespoons Burow’s Solution (both available over-the-counter) in 1 pint of water. Soak for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. Cite error <cite_error_ref_no_input>; $2

Take out the insoles to help the drying process along. Otherwise, wearing the same pair day after day is a recipe for stinky feet. Crumpled newspaper inside wet shoes will dry them overnight.

Make a baking soda mixture. Apply 1 tablespoon baking soda for every quart of water. This makes skin more alkaline, which inhibits bacterial growth.

Step 6

Step 5 Wash your shoes regularly. Many shoes can be thrown in the washing machine. Just make sure they dry thoroughly before you put them on.

Step 6 Remove your shoes. Whenever you are able to take a break, remove your shoes. This helps the shoes and your feet stay drier.

Step 7 Use a shoe dryer There are several great, low-wattage shoe and boot dryers that use convection air currents to slowly and completely dry wet, sweaty shoes. Place your footwear on them at the end of the day or workout and put on dry, warm and comfortable shoes about eight hours later. Dryers eliminate the moisture that odor-causing bacteria need to grow and help your shoes to last longer.

Step 7 Mix vinegar in water. This makes skin more acidic. Add a 1/2 cup vinegar for every 1 quart of water. Keep in mind that some people’s foot odor can be described as “vinegary” so if this is you, this soak might make things worse.

Step 8 Put baby powder in your shoes. Applying baby powder or baking soda in your shoes and socks will help dry out any future odors.

How Self-Acceptance Can Crack Open Your Life ...giving you the inspiration to feed your soul.

A Radical Plan to Accept

Who You Really Are

by Robert Holden www.oprah.com

Self-acceptance is an invitation to stop trying to change yourself into the person you wish to be, long enough to find out who you really are. Robert Holden has a 10-day plan to help you figure out who this self is that you’re supposed to be accepting and how to say yes to your life. Do you accept yourself as you are? It’s a simple question that many people find difficult to answer. At the deepest level, self-acceptance is either complete or not at all, but for most, yes/no feels too limited because you worry about all the things you would like to change about yourself.

Knowing Who You Are Client story: “Self-acceptance doesn’t work for me,” said Mary, sounding weary. “I just can’t do it.” “Why not?” I asked. “Because,” she said, pointing at herself, “I don’t know who this ‘self’ is that I’m meant to be accepting.” Lesson: The journey of self-acceptance starts when you acknowledge that you don’t seem to know much about yourself. Your personality, or ego, finds it difficult to answer questions like “Who am I?” and “What do I want?” Being asked to describe yourself at a job interview or for a dating agency profile, for instance, can feel excruciating and practically impossible because you haven’t really been paying attention. True self-acceptance is motivated by the

possibility of knowing what your true essence - the Unconditioned Self - is really like. Exercise: Self-acceptance is the process of befriending the Unconditioned Self—the part of you that is more than just your name, your history, your story, your failures or your successes. You are more than just your experiences or how other people see you or the clothes you wear. Reflect on this today: What is most authentic about you? What do you want people to really know about you? Who are you without your ego? Be still, and really listen to how you answer. Then, write down in your journal the qualities that describe your real, unconditioned self. If you’re having a little trouble answering these questions for yourself, try writing a biography of your real self in 100 words.

Practicing Self-Kindness Client story: “I can’t accept myself as I am,” said Lilly, a 38-year-old film producer. “I don’t think I’m good enough yet.” “When will you be good enough?” I asked. “I’m not sure,” said Lilly. “If you were willing to accept yourself, you might start feeling good enough now,” I said. Lesson: Self-acceptance teaches you that you are not who you think you are. You are able to discern between your ego and your Unconditioned Self. Early on, children start to construct a persona to help cope with the demands of being in a family, going to school and facing the world. On close inspection, you find that your persona or ego is made up of judgments about who you are, what is possible, what you deserve and what you don’t. These judgments become the lens through which you see yourself and the world. For example, Lilly had created a persona commonly described as perfectionistic. This personality type focuses on getting things right and being good. It conceives an ideal self

(rather than a real self ) that has high standards and stringent rules you must try to live up to. Your persona judges your efforts, and the more you judge yourself, the more you move out of alignment with the innate goodness of your Unconditioned Self. Exercise: The more you judge yourself, the less you see who you really are. The habit of self-judgment causes self-denigration in which you belittle yourself, criticize yourself, punish yourself and treat yourself without kindness. The most powerful way to undo the effects of selfdenigration is kindness and forgiveness, which restore awareness of your innate goodness. Declare today, “I forgive myself for my judgments.”

OMG Magazine | Thursday 11July, 2013 • PAGE 39 Affirm yourself by saying, “I will not criticize myself today.” Trust in your goodness. Resolve to treat yourself with kindness.

Exercise: Self-acceptance is love, and your capacity to love yourself determines your capacity to love everyone else. The less you accept yourself, the more you will criticize your friends.

Loving Yourself as You Are

Try this affirmation today: “I see myself through the eyes of love.” If you are like most people, you know exactly what you don’t love about yourself, but you’re vague and uncertain about the ways that you do love yourself. For example, you could easily write a list of the things you don’t like about your body, including the cellulite on your thighs, the size of your feet or the number on the scale, but could you write a list of all the ways you do love yourself? When you see yourself through the eyes of love, everyone in your life will benefit. If your mother had taken better care of herself, would your childhood have been any better? While you can’t go back into your past, you can begin to nurture yourself now.

Client story: “I’m 10 pounds over my ideal weight,” explained Mary. “The way I see it, that’s not a reason to stop loving yourself,” I said. “It’s a reason to start loving yourself more.” Lesson: In any given moment, you are either accepting yourself or rejecting yourself. Selfrejection is identifying with your ego more than with your essence. In practice, this means you often say no to yourself. No to your real desires, no to having any needs, no to stopping and relaxing, no to making time for yourself, no to letting yourself be helped and no to loving yourself more. As long as you continue to reject yourself, you will live in constant fear of being rejected by others. Out of necessity, you will fashion a persona that tries to be good, not to ask for anything, not to be a burden, to please people and to ingratiate itself wherever possible. This personality type will feel unlovable, no matter how hard you try to love others. The self-rejection causes you to be mean to yourself—no attention, no care, no appreciation and no self-love.

Write down 10 ways you are not currently being very loving to yourself. Then, go back through your list, take a look at each point and imagine what would happen if you loved every single one of your supposed flaws. Write down exactly how would your life be better and how it would change the lives of the people around you.

what is...

The answer remains elusive in part because love is not one thing. Love for parents, partners, children, country, neighbour, God and so on all have different qualities. Each has its variants – blind, one-sided, tragic, steadfast, fickle, reciprocated, misguided, unconditional. At its best, however, all love is a kind a passionate commitment that we nurture and develop, even though it usually arrives in our lives unbidden. That’s why it is more than just a powerful feeling. Without the commitment, it is mere infatuation. Without the passion, it is mere dedication. Without nurturing, even the best can wither and die. Questions to Ask Before Quitting Your Job to

Start a Business

By Alina Dizik URL: http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/226035

Giving up the security of a full-time job to start your own business is a risky, often stressful move. “The biggest reason people don’t end up quitting is the fear of uncertainty. They don’t know what might happen and they don’t want to give up the security that they already have,” says Sean Ogle, who quit a job in finance to live in Thailand and run a virtual search engine optimization and Web consultancy. How do you know when the time is right to make the leap? Here are 10 questions to ask before you quit your job. Are you just miserable in your current job? Some people who think they want to be entrepreneurs are just unhappy in their current roles, says Pamela Slim, the Mesa, Ariz.-based author of Escape from Cubicle Nation (Penguin, 2010). Developing a thorough business plan can help you avoid any impulsive decisions. “In addition to wanting to quit, you have to have a viable business

idea and an effective marketing and operations plan,” she says. As you work on your plan, she advises, keep your job and income as long as possible. What will your new day-to-day routine be like? Instant freedom can be dangerous. Ogle recommends developing a daily schedule to follow, just as you did in your 9-to-5 job. “When you now have all of this free time it gets really easy to say, ‘Oh, I’ll do that later’,” he says. The week after quitting his job, Ogle started going to the gym at the same time he would have arrived at his old office each morning. And after the gym, he worked the same hours that he did for his former employer. How will you raise money to keep the business going? Lack of capital is one of the main hurdles to entrepreneurship. Rather than figuring out cash flow as you go along, it’s best to come up with realistic projections as part of your business plan before deciding whether you can afford to leave your job. Your business may not be profitable for three to five years, so it’s important to be realistic about how you’ll support yourself financially, says Sharon Lechter, author of Three Feet From Gold: Turn Your Obstacles Into Opportunities (Sterling Publishing, 2009) and a financial literacy expert in Phoenix. Anticipating your financial needs “allows you to focus your energy on building your new business rather than worrying how you are going to

pay the bills,” she says. Have you factored in possible unforeseen costs? When Jody Dyer launched Blackbird Tees, an apparel company in Richmond, Va., she was surprised by the many expenses her business plan hadn’t anticipated. We spent “thousands of dollars experimenting with different fabric styles and inks, messing up screens, destroying shirts, making the wrong color choices,” says Dyer, who sells her products on Etsy. “At the time, those errors were financially crippling.” Rather than going out of business, Dyer fell back on freelance copywriting gigs to make ends meet. “Supplementing your income through freelance or part-time work can alleviate some of that strain,” she says. Are you willing to take on multiple roles? Starting a business means you’ll be wearing many hats. “One day you are the tech person, one day you are the salesperson, one day you are the cleaning person,” says Shobha Tummala, founder of an eponymous chain of beauty salons in New York City. “You can’t have an ego.” So before leaving your job, you need to decide if you will be happy performing a variety of functions, from marketing to maintenance. What are your strengths and weaknesses? As you consider the multiple roles, be honest with yourself about what you’re best at and where

you need to improve, Tummala advises. Perhaps you need to beef up your programming skills or understanding of finance-or find a partner with a complementary skill set. If you don’t have a way to overcome your weaknesses, it may be best to stay in your current role. Who are your future customers and competitors? While you may not be able to thoroughly test the market potential for your business concept, you should at least understand who your likely customers are and what kind of competition you would face. If you’re not quite sure, consider pursuing your idea part-time, suggests Ellen Rohr, president of Bare Bones Biz, a small-business consultancy in Rogersville, Mo. “You can test your plan and adjust it in a soft launch before you sink too much into an unprofitable venture.” Is your support network on board? To help ease the transition, you should share your entrepreneurial plans with family members and see if they support the tradeoffs involved in starting a business. Be quite explicit about the risks, Slim says. “When one person goes into business, everyone in the family unit is affected.” If your partner and other members of your support network are reluctant to back your idea, you may want to rethink quitting your current job.

Do you have a backup option? Developing a plan B before going off on your own will help you avoid getting blindsided. Is there something you can do part-time if you need to temporarily bring in money, or will you need to seek new full-time employment and put your plans on hold? To keep your options open, stay in contact with recruiters, previous employers and other networking contacts. How will you avoid burning bridges? If you decide to quit, remember that your employer could be helpful to you as you launch your new venture. Rather than resign abruptly, figure out a way to leave in good standing. Give plenty of notice to help your employer handle the transition. And be open about your future entrepreneurial plans, Ogle says. “Usually [companies] will understand it, and even offer to help out however they can.” Employers can assist by giving you flexible time off or retaining your services as a consultant.

Practice the following techniques to become the

master of your

own time Carry a schedule and record all your thoughts, conversations and activities for a week. This will help you understand how much you can get done during the course of a day and where your precious moments are going. You’ll see how much time is actually spent producing results and how much time is wasted on unproductive thoughts, conversations and

actions.

“planned interruptions?”

Any activity or conversation that’s important to your success should have a time assigned to it. To-do lists get longer and longer to the point where they’re unworkable. Appointment books work. Schedule appointments with yourself and create time blocks for high-priority thoughts, conversations, and actions. Schedule when they will begin and end. Have the discipline to keep these appointments.

Take the first 30 minutes of every day to plan your day. Don’t start your day until you complete your time plan. The most important time of your day is the time you schedule to schedule time.

Plan to spend at least 50 percent of your time engaged in the thoughts, activities and conversations that produce most of your results. Schedule time for interruptions. Plan time to be pulled away from what you’re doing. Take, for instance, the concept of having “office hours.” Isn’t “office hours” another way of saying

Take five minutes before every call and task to decide what result you want to attain. This will help you know what success looks like before you start. And it will also slow time down. Take five minutes after each call and activity to determine whether your desired result was achieved. If not, what was missing? How do you put what’s missing in your next call or activity? Put up a “Do not disturb” sign when you absolutely have to get work done.

phone just because it’s ringing and e-mails just because they show up. Disconnect instant messaging. Don’t instantly give people your attention unless it’s absolutely crucial in your business to offer an immediate human response. Instead, schedule a time to answer email and return phone calls. Block out other distractions like Facebook and other forms of social media unless you use these tools to generate business. Remember that it’s impossible to get everything done. Also remember that odds are good that 20 percent of your thoughts, conversations and activities produce 80 percent of your results.

Why isn’t

Nargis Fakhri getting more acting offers? by Deboshree Ghosh for Bollywoodlife

We spotted the babe’s photoshoot for Maxim and we wonder why despite her amazingly good looks she hasn’t managed to bag too many films.

Nargis Fakhri is scorching hot in the style shoot for Maxim. The images are evidence enough that the babe has all the prerequisites to be a typical Bollywood chick. She has the face, the attitude and of course the body that can make any B-town gal go green with envy. She still has to hone her acting skills big time, but then who cares! A lot of young women in Hindi cinema can’t act at all, despite being in the industry for ages. It’s been two long years since Rockstar was released, and apart from a couple of commercials NF hasn’t done much in B-town, if you ignore her Twitter flirtation with Uday Chopra, that is. So what is it about the luscious pouted chick that makes her so right for apna industry… Long legs:The babe’s legs are made in heaven. They are long, perfectly in shape, very model-like and feminine. Remember the scene in which Pooja Bhatt tries to hitch a ride and yes, the smart babe does that by lifting her skirt and brings the vehicle to a screeching halt in Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin. We can see NF doing absolute justice to such a scene. Toned midriff:Has she ever heard of a word called paunch? Hell no, we are sure! As she poses in sexy boy pants and a classic black bra, we can already imagine how she must have carved all that cellulite out of her tummy to get a sexy one. Or our other side of the brain says that she’s blessed with great metabolism! Fabulous pout: The babe has a pout that would make her admirers go weak in the knees. Not so droopy like Jolie’s but sexy enough to raise temperatures. Chiselled nose: Just cover her eyes and lips and expose that nose and it would seem like it is a part of a sculpture created by a talented artist. Expressive eyes: NF is creating a furore with those killer, slightly doe-shaped eyes. Now we know why it wasn’t much of an effort for Ranboo to perform all those intensely romantic scenes in Rockstar when he had to look deep into her eyes.

Tigers maul man to death, Trap 5

A disease without a cure

is spreading in the western United States An airborne fungal disease without a cure, coccidioidomycosis — also known as valley fever or cocci — is affecting more people than ever in the Southwest US, where more than 20,000 cases have been reported this year. The disease is contracted through microscopic spores in soil that lodge in the lungs and can spread to affect the bones, skin, eyes, or brain. Although valley fever doesn’t impact everyone who is exposed to it, there is still no cure or vaccine, and about 160 people die from complications each year. Every patient experiences different symptoms, but those infected tend to lose weight and strength rapidly. Many patients lose the ability to live independently.

Doctors believe the uptick in cases is tied to climate changes, with cases increasing when dry weather follows rainfall. The majority of cases originate in California and Arizona, but the total number is unknown — some states, like Texas, do not have mandatory reporting. However, the increase in infections is serious enough that last week a federal judge ordered 2,600 inmates out of prisons in the San Joaquin Valley, where 535 of 640 inmate cocci cases were reported. According to the Times, yearly inmate costs for hospitalisation for cocci amount to more than $23 million. Valley fever also appears to have a more adverse impact on African-Americans. According to an Arizona study, African-Americans have a 25 percent risk of developing complications, compared to only 6 percent of whites.

for at Least 4 Days A group of six Indonesian men were attacked by several tigers on Thursday, forcing five of the men to climb a tree, where they’ve remained since. The sixth man was mauled to death as he attempted to join his partners in the tree. Help for the trapped men reportedly won’t arrive until sometime Wednesday. The tiger attack occurred after the men, searching for wood to make a rare incense in the Gunung Leuser jungle, set traps for deer for food and, in the process, inadvertently killed a tiger cub. According

to Indonesian police, the dying tiger cub attracted fully grown Sumatran tigers, who proceeded to attack the men, catching and killing one, a 28-year-old named David. The surviving five took refuge in a nearby tree. The trapped men used their cell phones to call local villagers, who rushed to the scene only to retreat after spotting the prowling tigers. A 30-person search team called in on Saturday should reach the men by Wednesday. “It might need two or three days to walk on foot to the depths of the jungle,” Police chief Dicky Sondani told the BBC. “If the tigers remain under the tree, we may have to shoot or sedate them to rescue the five people.” The Sumatran tigers are an endangered species, with as few as 350 remaining in the wild.

New research points to

over 3500 species in Antarctic Lake Vostok In the middle of the frozen Antarctic wastes, 800 miles from the South Pole, is Lake Vostok. Well, it would be more correct to say that it’s under 2 miles of solid ice, but why quibble? This massive pocket of water has been sealed in the ice for 15-35 million years, and scientists now believe it could harbour life. It took years to drill down to the lake, which was only reached by Russian scientists in 2012. Reports have since gone back and forth on whether or not there is life in the ancient lake’s liquid reservoir, but now researchers have found the best evidence for life yet. According to a report in the journal PLOS ONE, samples of ice from just above the lake show traces of DNA from over 3500 different species. These are fragments of DNA locked in ice, not full sequences. As such, we aren’t able to know exactly which organisms they come from, but it is possible to reach some general conclusions. About 95% of the sequences isolated come from bacteria with the other 5% coming from more complicated eukaryotic

organisms and archaea. In this context, eukaryotic probably means mostly single-cell creatures, not multicellular eukaryotes. Lake Vostok Some of the sequences hint at higher levels of complexity in the lake. Some of the DNA is a close match for small arthropods and mollusks. Perhaps more interestingly, some of the bacteria species are thought to be of a type found in the GI tract of fish. That could mean fish are still swimming somewhere in that ancient lake. The researchers believe many of the species detected are associated with hydrothermal vents in the ocean. If those features are present in Lake Vostok it could explain how it remains liquid and from where the energy for a thriving ecosystem comes. Lake Vostok is big — 160 miles long and 30 miles wide with an average depth of about a quarter of a mile. It’s going to take time to get probes into the lake to check for living creatures, but these results are encouraging. Bizarre forms of life could have evolved in Lake Vostok over millions of years.

Man crashes car Into 2 cows humping in road In hindsight, a busy road may not have been the best place for romance. This video, posted to YouTube on Monday, shows a driver colliding with a pair of cows getting, well, rather intimate in the middle of the road. Captured on a dashboard-mounted camera, the video is titled “Knocked Down A Cow” in Russian, according to a translation by The Huffington Post. Amazingly, while the car’s windshield gets clobbered in the bovine-automobile collision, the cow that appears to cause the most damage seems to be fine and ultimately walks away from the scene of the crash.

Andrei Komarov, who uploaded the video, captioned his clip with an unamused “I hate Russia.” But the situation could have turned out worse. As MSN notes, “[The driver’s] seriously lucky that the gargantuan animal didn’t land in his lap.” Though dashboard cams are nearly ubiquitous in Russia, it’s always best to watch purported dashcam videos with a healthy dose of scepticism. One such video showing a truck full of cattle tipping over was widely questioned as a hoax when it was posted to YouTube in December. Does that mean Andrei Komarov’s cow-crash might be a fake? You be the judge.

Miley Cyrus lists her profession

as "Pro Twerker," needs a reality check stat

All right, now look, it’s great that Miley Cyrus is so in love with twerking. That’s wonderful, and we should all be so lucky to find our true passion. But Miley is starting to take it a little too far. Ever since she posted that very first video where she was twerking in that unicorn costume and everyone said “LOL,” she’s been shoving that twerk in our faces. She’s like a small child who does something to make you laugh, and then she does that one thing over and over and over to the point where you have to force yourself to laugh just so she doesn’t get her feelings hurt. And that’s sad.

See, Miley did this questionnaire thing, a “celebrity quiz” for ABC News, and when she had to write down her job, she wrote “pro twerker.” Not “singer,” not “stoner,” nope, just “pro twerker.” You guys, she’s not even that good at twerking, let’s be honest. We all know a handful of girls down at the club who are way better twerkers than Miley, right? We need to stop Miley on this before things get out of hand. As for some other things we learned about Miley from this here quiz, she sings that “Thong Song” in the shower, her drink of choice is “I ain’t picky,” her dream vacation would be to go to the moon with “my honey,” and when she wants fast food, she goes to McDonald’s and orders 30 cheeseburgers. Really great to know, girl.

Corpse-Eating fly returns from extinction: Bone-Skippers feast on decayed carcasses huffingtonpost.com

Get your fly swatters out. (Re)introducing, the bone-skipper -- a fly that lives to feast on decayed carcasses. For centuries, the “mythical” corpseeating species was thought to be extinct, but that’s not the case, LiveScience reports.

Pierfilippo Cerretti, a researcher at the Sapienza University of Rome, told LiveScience that boneskippers -- rediscovered in Europe in the past few years -- get their name because they habitually jump or skip along carcasses, making the bodies they eat appear “alive with larvae.”

Bone-skippers, which prefer to eat larger dead animals, including humans, were rediscovered in Europe in the past few years, according to a study published in the Journal of Insect Conservation.

Cerretti and colleagues have most recently established a “type-species” for the fly, called Centrophlebomyia anthropophaga, according to their study published in ZooKeys in June.

Don’t freak out, but Justin Bieber wants To get married right about now Justin Bieber, bless his heart, has been quite the piece of work lately. You know that, we know that, everyone knows that. He sort of seems like he’s right on the edge of a teenage boy breakdown, but you know what? He still believes in love. He wants to find a wife and have some kids, guys! Or, in his very own words, he wants to “get married and start a family,” and he wants to do it soon. He wants to be a young dad, and isn’t that the scariest things you’ve heard all day? He needs a good 20 years, at least, to let his ego shrink back down to a respectable size. But no, that simply

won’t do, because Justin wants to be able to love a lucky lady for decades upon decades, just like his grandparents! “My grandparents Bruce and Diane Dale are my relationship role models. They love each other so much, after so many years! When I’m their age, I want to be as in love with my wife as my grandfather is with his.” All right, you have to admit that that was a pretty sweet thing to say. As sweet as a subsequent thing J-Bieb said in this interview. “I’m still growing. I try to be a better person every day.” We believe in you, Justin. Just work on that controlling all that “swag” and pull your dang pants up for once.

Boston University wants Apple’s profits, sues for patent infringement When Boston University filed patent infringement lawsuits against companies like Samsung and Amazon.com, the intent seemed to be to force a settlement through the sheer scale of the penalties being threatened. Those companies, and many smaller ones also named, could hypothetically be forced to cough up years’ worth of profits and pull their most popular and successful products from the shelves. None of the companies, large or small, has done so, and most are in the process of getting ready to fight the suit in court. Samsung has turned away the university’s prior attempts to settle. So, what happens when your bid for easy money goes belly up? You double down, of course.

Boston University has added Apple to its list of naughty, techstealing companies. The terms of their lawsuit state that a 1997 patent on gallium nitride thin film semiconductor devices entitle them to all of what Apple and the other companies have made from products allegedly using their technology — including the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Air. BU has asked the court to require an immediate end to sale of these products, and that the company begin tallying up their recent profits for the purpose of giving it all to the university. A drawing from U.S. Patent No. 5,686,738 Such enormous demands are of course not realistic, as no judge in the world would allow a patent on a “potential source of inexpensive and compact solid-state blue lasers” to essentially cripple the country’s consumer technology sector. It is a bid to make the stakes too high for Apple, Samsung, Amazon or the others named to be able to risk a loss. It’s entirely possible that they will be successful in this effort, and that the companies are gearing up to fight for better settlement terms, rather than an outright win.

Some may derive some schadenfreude from the idea of companies like Apple and Samsung now being the targets of this sort of legal brinksmanship, given their own histories. With patents like “on-screen icons” and “rounded corners with tapered edges,” it’s difficult to summon too much sympathy for them in this case. The only difference here is that their legal disputes, often with each other, involve products that are actually for sale. Boston University, on the other hand, produces no competing devices and has done nothing with this particular patent since its approval 15 years ago. That said, nobody currently knows the legitimacy of the case itself. Despite the now-standard manipulation of the system and pushing for settlements, it’s entirely possible that there has been some actual patent infringement, here. It seems unlikely that all the companies named would have independently stolen this technology, but if such large and well-lawyered companies really have unintentionally run afoul of the patent system in so egregious a way, then perhaps it’s time to admit that the system needs amending.
