Associate Education Minister Nikki Kaye has announced a $10 million investment in new buildings for 26 schools around New Zealand, one of which is Waiuku’s Sandspit Road School, which will receive over $544,000. Sandspit Road School principal Graeme Newall says the funding will be used for administrative and storage areas, as funding for classrooms is separate. “The plan is to use some of this funding to redevelop our library into a multi-purpose area,” he said, adding that the school has sufficient classrooms at this stage to cope with a

New classrooms and gymnasium space are funded through a separate programme to match school roll growth. “For many of these schools this funding represents a big investment in their facilities. They have experienced significant growth and I am delighted that we are able to provide this funding. I look forward to visiting some of the schools in the near future,” Ms Kaye says.
