Steve West, winner of the World Paddle Award for Media 2014 and a member of the World Paddle Academy, is one of the most prolific and respected researchers and authors of outrigger canoe sports and stand up paddle boarding. He is a two time winner of the Molokai' Hoe and was for six years the Australian National Coaching Director for Outrigger Canoeing and consultant to the Fijian OCRA for over ten years. He created Australia's instructor / coaching courses for Outrigger Canoeing in association with AOCRA, Australian Canoeing and the Institute of Sport. He has written three SUP instructor training manuals for the Academy of Surfing Instructors (ASI) and was the founding creator of the Water Skills Academy (WSA) UK. His books are housed in the University of Hawaii and University of the South Pacific and are used as reference resources and cited in many academic papers. He continues to write, research paddle, sail and remains a prodigious traveller.
