Be gone, Satan! it is a familiar knowledge for Christians that the public life of Jesus started after His baptism at the River Jordan and His ministry began with his solitude in the wilderness. Jesus always took time to be alone—to be quiet especially before an important event in His life. We saw Him alone and silently praying on a mountain before walking on seawaters toward His Paghurup- apostles during a storm (See mt 14:23-27 & par). hurop He prayed intensely before His crucifixion at Gethsemane (mt 26:36-46 & par). As the God made man, he knew that He needed to constantly commune with His Father and the Holy Spirit. Indeed there are times that we need to stop acting and start thinking just in order not to get far from what we need to achieve—we need most importantly to be alone with God. Oftentimes we make errors in life because we did not take time to be alone and quiet with God. (See also pwb 2/18/2019) This story of the temptations of Jesus might have not be known unless Jesus spoke about it Himself; Jesus was telling about His own life story and certainly these temptations are mere representations of all the temptations Para sa Domingo 2, Kwaresma A Gen 12:1-4A, 2Tim 1;8B-10. Si Abraham iyo an modelo nin pagtubod, pagláom, asin pagsunod sa kabutan nin Dyos. Dinangog nya an Dyos asin nagtubod sya na mapapangyari an imposible. Kan inakò nya an kabutan nin Dyos, binayaan nya an gabos. Sa paagi kan pagtubod, si Abaraham napanibago. An saiyang buhay nagin urog pa ki sa mga pangiturugan nya nin huli ta sya nagtubod sa Dyos. Siring man an sinasabi

which He has encountered all throughout His life until His Death on the cross. Jesus can in all His powers to help us when we are tempted because He Himself has been tempted. According to Pope emeritus Benedict XVI, When Jesus was led into the desert and tempted became His “descent into hell,” which did not only take place in and after his death, but accompanies him along his entire journey (Jesus of Nazareth, v.i.). Jesus is human like us in all fashion except committing sin (See gs 22); His being tempted make Him human like anybody else among us. We read that Jesus became hungry after fasting for forty days and forty nights (cf mt 4:3). In the Biblical language, “40 days” is significant in many ways but specifically, the expression “40 days and 40 nights” should be understood not literally but only as an idiomatic expression which means: “a long period of time.” (See pwb 3/10/2019) In the first temptation, the Devil wanted to take advantage of Jesus being

hungry after fasting. The Devil was aware that Jesus is God and had the power to do what he dared Him and yet he wanted a proof of His divinity. Jesus heard about that same challenge: “If you are the Son of God” during His crucifixion. Today, many of us face the same temptation; we dare God to show His absolute power whenever we are at a loss of things which should be able to instantly satisfy our appetites and we tend to put God aside if our inordinate desires are not met. Jesus did not succumb to the temptation to be flashy about His power; he is just beginning His ministry. To fight against the temptation, Jesus made the word of God as His weapon, he said: “It is written: ‘“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God (mt 4:4).’” “For it is written, ‘He will command his angels . . . ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone (mt 4:6).’” The Devil used the Sacred Scriptures to temp Jesus next. A different kind of fasting as we enter the season of Lent, we strive to be better Catholics by sharing God’s suffering Tales of through fasting and Faith abstinence. Fasting and abstinence is not solely about food. It is all about avoiding sin and finding its antidote, that is, by doing good. We ask our youth today what other forms of fasting aside from food can you offer to Jesus this Lenten season? Fast from Noise. Turn off the music and turn on the silence to hear God’s calling. He is calling you to be a good Samaritan. If silence dwells in your heart, you have enough time to pray to God and repent for your sins that you’ve committed. Fast from Complaints. “Work hard rather than complain.” God will not let you suffer if He does not have a plan for you. With God all things are possible. Fast from Excuses. It is important to be proactive and exhaust every possible way for others. Extending a helping hand for those in need surely makes God’s heart full of Joy. We should refrain from saying “I cannot do it,” but instead focus on achieving and doing things for others, fulfillment is greatest when shared with others.—Pia, 15 ****** I will try to stop using social media and start giving attention to Jesus and I would pray with my family and friends, than hang out with them at the mall or somewhere that is not related in worshiping Jesus.—Jam, 15 ****** We should lessen time spent on using cellphones or gadgets during weekdays, it helps us focus on our studies and also focus in praying. This is one way of fasting as an offering to Jesus.—Jellah, 15 ****** Aside from fasting from food, I will offer my sacrifices to God by presenting Fasting | sunod na pahina

Retrieving the ‘evangelical character’ of the Easter Angels in the meeting of the PPC Execom last January, it was deliberated upon to discontinue the practice of making the search for Easter Angels a fund-raising activity. Instead, the parish takes back an earlier form, an more prayerful Salubong or Engkwentro devotion. The current practice encourages parish areas to recruit children to participate through a competitive money contest. Thus, the participation of children became limited to those who have more. Interest, therefore, is necessarily limited. During the Holy week, the families with Easter Angels are occupied with distributing envelopes and preparing the attires of their respective Angels. This practice diminishes the essence and evangelical character of the Easter Angels as it became not only a fund-raising event, but a pageantry showcasing beautiful and expensive white garments that created competition among children themselves.

This year, together with Fr. Francis, the PPC Execom decided to bring the practice to another level. SJTPS aims to achieve a more participatory and evangelical Easter Angel experience. As a result, 102 children from different areas of the Parish signified participation. This is ten times the number of participants in the previous years. The children together with their parents received catechism from the Lectors on “what is an Angel, and how could they be an Angel to others”.This activity was well received and appreciated by both the children and the parents. For three more consecutive Saturdays, they will also

undergo catechism on the value of passion, death and Resurrection of Jesus. On Easter Sunday, children will be wearing the same white garment to do away with the pageantry. This will hopefully eliminate unnecessary expenses and will teach children simplicity and humility. The focus will be on the catechism received by the children and their parents. A criterion was also set for the angel who will be designated to unveil the Blessed Mother. The Parish would like children to have good memories of their experience as an Easter Angel, and the deeper meaning and understanding about the character of an Angel. † ellen peña

|Fasting my whole being in prayer. Let us feel his presence this Lenten season, it is a season of making peace with the Lord, it make us realize our sinfulness and we repent not just because we commit sin but because sometimes our heart is far from God , we need to repent and take away the pain in our heart. This gives us hope to be a better person .As a youth we should be an inspiration to other youth but first we have to start within ourselves and with God.—Loushaine, 14

I commit myself to follow Jesus through his journey through prayer, spending more time in prayer to talk to the Lord and giving up time away from social media is one way of offering my sacrifice just to be closer to God. It is my selfless offering to God besides fasting from food.—Angienel, 20 ****** As a Catholic, I will offer my sacrifice of service to my parish where I will participate in the parish activities during the holy week through prayers and choir

service. One sacrifice that I will also offer to God is to refrain from spending too much time on social media and instead devote my time in meditating the sufferings Jesus Christ who give us light and way to the Holy Father.—Charles † mariss catherine roque If you got a story of faith, a testimony of God’s endless and powerful presence in your life, a prayer you earnestly desires to be fulfilled, a tale of grace and providence, or any narrative of God’s warmth and St. Jude Thaddeus’ intercession, please email it to stjudenaga@gmail.com.

|Be gone, Satan! This is most dangerous, when the word of God is used to allure others to sin. The Devil tempted Jesus to jump from a high point and land safely because God will send His angels to protect Him; he was tempting Jesus to make a spectacle which he can enjoy with pleasure. Jesus used the scriptures to re-battle the Devil’s temptation: “You shall not put the Lord

your God to the test”. Jesus did not like to be presumptuous; He wanted to respect and leave to God His own will. This kind of temptation happen to us today when we cannot anymore accept the supremacy of God over us and we lose already the sense of sin and everything seems doable. On the third temptation, Jesus was tempted to redirect His vision of putting

God as His utmost priority into worldly desires. Jesus was quick to say, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ‘you shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve’ (mt 4:10).” Jesus was firm not to be allured by material possessions; He did not want His tempter to have a chance to make more advances. For Jesus, nothing matters more than God. † ramon l. almoneda, phd-th
