Browse through our shelves and find some wonderful treasures to contemplate as you wander through the desert of the next 40 days of Lent. Are you a young parent preparing your child for their First Penance or First Holy Communion? Your parish library has great children's books to help you and make it fun for the children. The library has several books on the Way of the Cross and on the Passion of Christ that may help you reach a deeper understanding of the suffering of Christ that we, as Christians, recall throughout our Lenten journey. We are here to help Sundays from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.; Mondays from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until noon and 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. each week. 3

YOUR ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

made 7 home visits during the week ending on February 21st. We helped 5 families with rent and 2 families with utilities. We also gave out several HEB cards, 3 store vouchers for clothing only, and some bus passes. We also received a copay from the Ladies of Charity to help our recent client with the burial/funeral home expenses. One recent case was that of a mother who is on full disability because of multiple health issues. Her 2-room apartment is next to that of her 77-year- old mother, and she shares it with her 25-year- old daughter. Her daughter is suffering from severe mental issues, but the police have told her that she cannot be sent to Shoal Creek Hospital, which she needs, because she has not yet committed a serious crime. Their apartment contains two donated chairs and a donated folding bed. She had planned to ask us to help her obtain a couch, but she had just received a delinquent payment notice from Austin Energy, threatening to cut off her service. Because of your support, we were able to provide $227 to pay her overdue electric bill. She was already familiar with our food pantry. We also gave her a $20 HEB gift card and a clothing voucher. Our volunteers concluded their visit by praying with her. On behalf of the most needy in our community, The Society of St Vincent de Paul would like to thank those of you who have been purchasing grocery cards at the Script table and donating them. Your generosity goes a long way.
