Living Our Faith
There are many wonderful messages in the gospel today, all centered around Mary’s trust and faith in God. Her humility at the annunciation allowed her to be open to our Lord’s wishes. Mary did not hesitate when she learned about Elizabeth and moved quickly to support her aging cousin. She became completely open and receptive to his work, putting it before her own wishes. God worked through Mary in what is referred to by many as the domestic Pentecost. He filled Elizabeth with the Holy Spirit and caused John to stir in her womb at the mere sound of Mary’s grace-filled voice. Mary believed in God’s word to her and because of that, he not only blessed her, but he worked through her to bless others around her. We can tell ourselves that we’re not ‘Mary,’ which is true. But as God’s children we are still created in his image and we, through our baptism are adopted to share in the inheritance in heaven. Even though we are all prone to sin, we can still give God our ‘yes’ so that our sins become fewer and farther between, and his work in us and through us becomes greater and greater. As we enjoy these last few days of Advent preparation, why not spend a little more time in prayer to thank God for giving us Jesus through Mary and marvel in history’s most perfect story of love.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe
