Living Our Faith

While most of us aren’t called to “Prepare the way of the Lord” in the same fashion as John the Baptist, today’s gospel reminds us that Advent is a time of preparation. Retailers are out to sell the Christmas spirit as early as Labor Day. But Christmas doesn’t come until the anniversary of Jesus’ birth. Is there a voice crying out in the wilderness that we should be listening to more closely? As we prepare for our gift giving and our holiday celebrations with loved ones, why not take a little extra time each day to spend with Jesus and contemplate the meaning and joy of his becoming incarnate for us? Out of true love, he gave himself to us in the most vulnerable of states. He came to us as a fully dependent infant that we might choose to become more dependent and trusting in him.

You may choose to pick up your certificate at the Church Office rather than attend a specific Mass. Watch bulletins for more information. Viviendo Nuestra Fe

ANNouNcemeNts Dear Parishioners,

Estimados Feligreses,

With joy and sadness I write you these few lines. It has been a rewarding experience to live at St. Louis Church while I worked on my doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2008 I asked the bishop if I could live in a parish in Austin and offer my services as a priest. He assigned me to St. Louis! Both pastors, Fr. Larry and Fr. James, welcomed me and it has been a joy to be a part of the many Masses and other activities in the parish. I often wish I could do more, but working on my doctorate in sociology has been full time work. I thank you for your kindness and love over these years. This semester I obtained my doctorate in sociology and I will move to my monastery in Schuyler, Nebraska on December 15. I will stay there for three or four months before moving to my assignment at our monastery in El Rosal, Colombia. I hope to do pastoral work at the monastery and to teach at a university in Bogota. At the least, I like sending Christmas cards, so feel free to give me your address. In the meantime, I pray that you may continue to build up St. Louis Church, which would be the greatest gift I could receive. Let us pray for each other and know that our desire to serve God is our common mission.

¡Él me asignó a San Luis!

Peace in Christ, Fr. Paul Kasun, OSB, PhD.

Paz en Cristo, P. Pablo Kasun, OSB, PhD.
