Living Our Faith
In today’s gospel we are given three examples that can give the impression that God is mean and uncompassionate. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. It is important to remember that not all suffering is a punishment for sin. However, as Jesus points out, sin can cause great suffering. It may seem difficult to move past the suffering outlined in Luke’s gospel, but the message today is one of love and repentance. The sooner we repent, the sooner we can be rid of the suffering caused by our sins. Since we know not the day or the hour when we will no longer be able to bear his fruit, Jesus advises us to repent now. For just as the gardener at the end of today’s gospel reluctantly acknowledges, God is very patient because he loves us...but there will still come a time when the unfruitful trees must be cut down.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe
