Living Our Faith

Simon Peter was a very skilled fisherman. He knew the waters well and the places that would bring the most abundant catch. In today’s gospel, we are reminded that Jesus is a very skilled fisher of people. He is constantly giving us an abundance of opportunities to share in his goodness and follow him. Often times, however, like Peter, we focus on our own knowledge and priorities. It can seem futile to try something again and expect a different result. But Jesus always has a bigger and better plan. Peter realized this and, even though he believed it would not yield results, he did what the “Master” commanded. There are times in each of our lives when God may ask us to do something that we believe is either futile or a waste of time. Will we trust our own experience and say no, or will we follow God’s command and perhaps, like Peter, be astonished?

Viviendo Nuestra Fe

The Blessed Sacrament is in Exposition 24/7. Many church members and visitors come before the Lord during day time hours and during night time hours. We are extending an invitation to all church members to volunteer to come to Adoration. Currently, everyone who is a registered adorer who visits the Blessed Sacrament has a key code to enter our Adoration Chapel. Information sheets in English and Spanish can be found on the table in the adoration chapel. The forms can be placed in the adjacent lockbox or dropped off at the church office during office hours. Forms are also available for download and for filling in online at the parish website at www.st-louis.org/eucharistic-adoration 3

just in time for Lent: February 16: Meditating on the Mystery of Jesus’ Passion and Death on the Cross. Peering from behind the scenes of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion” to Ronald Rolheiser’s reflections on the mystery of Jesus’ Passion and Cross, we come face to face with questions like what is the wisdom inside the Cross of Jesus? – How does our brokenness connect with the brokenness of the one who died on the cross? – How does carrying our own cross help those around us? – What are we saying to ourselves and others when we wear crosses around our necks or display them in our homes? – How do we accept the challenge to make the death of Jesus on the cross an example to follow in our own lives? (Based on Ronald Rolheiser’s book: “The Passion and the Cross”). Come and join as we dive deeply into this mystery. Presenter: Monseigneur Elmer Holtman; beloved priest for over 50 years. $35 includes light breakfast and lunch. Register at www.ewrc.org
