Living Our Faith

True to his nature, Jesus didn’t mince his words in today’s gospel. He had some very straight forward (and uncomfortable) things to say about the dangers of entitlement felt by many in Israel at the time. And Luke tells us that the people in Jesus’ home town were so enraged that they drove him out with fury. There are many ways we can fall into the trap of entitlement and privilege. Jesus reminds us that God’s mercy is not for the elite or for those who belong to the right groups or who know the right people. God offers his mercy to everyone...even those who may not appear worthy to our own eyes. Each time we are reminded that God loves everyone, even those whom we may not, we have the same opportunity of choice as the people of Nazareth. We can drive him away in anger, or we can be thankful that we are among those to whom he offers his mercy.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe
