Living Our Faith

Healing stories are very common in the gospels, but today’s is one of the more descriptive. Similar to his healing of the blind man in John, Chapter 9, and in Mark, Chapter 8, Jesus’ physical interaction with the deaf man was on a far more intimate level--with him placing his finger in the man’s ears and using his own spit as an agent of ‘opening’. How intimate do we let ourselves be with Jesus? While he isn’t physically placing his finger in our ears or spitting on our tongues, do we allow him to enter into our hearts? Do we welcome him into our bodies in the Eucharist each Mass? Jesus offers us many opportunities to be opened. To see things through his eyes and hear things through his ears so that we can grow in his likeness. Like the deaf man in today’s gospel, we need only to get close to him and allow him to lead us into an intimate relationship.

SEPTEMBER

PUBLICATION DEADLINES will change slightly due to the wedding of Christa Almaguer, our publications’ editor. This will only affect deadlines for September. 1. Deadline for the September 27th and October 4th bulletins will be Monday, September 14 (not the usual Wednesday deadlines). Both these bulletins have the same deadline to accommodate our editor’s wedding and travel schedule. 2. Normal Wednesday bulletin deadlines resume September 30th for the bulletin 10 days out. Thank you for your cooperation in meeting these earlier publication deadlines for the month of September only.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe
