2017 AT THE ST. LOUIS FARM | As 2017 begins, make it

a resolution to help out at St. Louis Farm! The winter months are a great opportunity to volunteer -- the weather is cooler, the Farm is full of tasks large and small, and volunteering is a great way to give back after Christmas feasting. We'll be having a monthly Saturday Work Day on February 25 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. We'll have refreshments, fellowship, seasoned volunteers to guide you, and you can help us provide fresh vegetables for the Food Pantry! Mark your calendars, pull on a sweatshirt, and come on out -- we're located on the church property near the corner of St. Joseph and Hardy Street. For more info, follow us on Facebook or send us an email at stlouisfarmatx@gmail.com. EIM WORKSHOP | All clergy and paid staff, and all

volunteers working with youth and vulnerable adults, at any parish or diocesan location, are required to complete a onetime Application for Ministry prior to beginning their work/ service and attend an EIM workshop within 60 days of submitting the application. Directions on how to pre-register or submit an application can be found here: www.st-louis.org/eim K OF C BREAKFAST | Each month the St. Louis Knights of

Columbus make fabulous breakfasts for our Parish. Proceeds from the first 3 Sundays in February will go to the St. Louis Early Childhood Development Center’s Playground Fund! Enjoy a morning free from cooking and cleaning, and help enrich our youngest parishioners’ new playground spaces!

SLCS celebrated Catholic Schools Week from January 28th to February 3rd. One new addition to our annual celebration was Hour of Code. If you're not familiar with the Hour of Code event, it is an opportunity to get students to give computer coding a try. Coding is a great activity to teach students how to plan, learn a process, do a little math, and understand what is going on in the background of a computer program. Hour of Code, promoted by code.org, is meant to encourage students to consider this career in their future. Although typically held in December, during the Computer Science Education Week, Hour of Code can be done at any time of the year. St. Louis students had a fun time learning code and we hope to include more in our future.

YOUR ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

made 6 home visits during the week ending on January 10th. We helped 4 families with rent, 1 family with utilities, and 1 family with medications. We also gave out several bus passes, HEB and Walmart cards, and a store voucher for clothing. Recently we learned that a neighboring parish, St. Julia’s, had totally exhausted their SVdP funding. The only help that they could provide in response to their many requests was prayer and emotional support. Our St. Louis conference is certainly not affluent, and we routinely need support from some of the surrounding, more affluent parishes. But we wanted to demonstrate our love and support for other parishes who have many who are in even more desperate economic conditions. Because of your support, we were able to provide $500 to St. Julia’s so that they can continue to assist some of those who are seeking their help.
