LIVING VOICES The King’s Institute of Theology presents

“Living Voices: Ancient Spirituality for a Modern World” What do our ancient Catholic roots have to do with our modern lives? How do those early Voices influence our Church today? Join Deacon Henry Finch for a six-week exploration of Early Church spirituality and its importance for modern Catholic living. Wednesdays, June 6th-July 18th | Wozniak Hall, 6:30-8:00 p.m. No session July 4th. WELCOME, DEACON HENRY FINCH! Newly ordained to the Transitional Diaconate, Deacon Henry Finch will be in residence at St. Louis this summer. He will be returning to the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio in the fall for his final year before Ordination to Priesthood next June. Deacon Henry’s home parish is St. John the Evangelist, San Marcos, where he grew up. He started discerning priesthood when he was at Texas A&M University, involved in the campus ministry program at St. Mary’s Catholic Center. He began his philosophy studies at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas before switching to the Pontifical College Josephinum. Deacon Henry spent his pastoral year at St. William in Round Rock, and looks forward to new experiences at St. Louis this summer, spending Christmas and Easter with us as well. Recreationally, he enjoys playing the piano and the pipe organ, as well as flying airplanes! He’s already planned a great six-week series for the parish that explores Early Church spirituality and its importance for modern Catholic living. Check the bulletin for details and join us in welcoming Deacon Henry to St. Louis!

Grateful thanks to St. Louis Women’s Club and the Knights of Columbus who hosted a wonderful reception for Seminarian Will Rooney on May 20th. These amazing volunteers are always so gracious and willing to sponsor such parish events, and we appreciate their service, which is given so generously! Remember to keep Seminarian Will in your prayers on his journey to priesthood.

SANCTUARY CANDLES The sanctuary candle is traditionally seen in Catholic churches, burning constantly to indicate the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle. At St. Louis, in both the main nave and the chapel, the sanctuary candles are burning high above the floor in beautifully ornate fixtures suspended from the ceiling. Parishioners are given the opportunity to memorialize a deceased loved one with a $10 contribution, selecting a specified week in which one or both of the two sanctuary candles will be burned in their honor. Visit the church office with your donation, the name of your loved one, your choice of sanctuary candle and the selected week. Memorials are denoted in the Main Nave (M) or Chapel (C). As the 8th grade class prepares to leave and continue on their journey to high school, they are very grateful for all the support you have provided them and the school. We have such a wonderful parish that supports the mission of Catholic education. Please keep this class and all students in your prayers! Dear Parishioners of St. Louis Catholic Church,

Dear Parishioners of St. Louis Catholic Church,

My name is John, and I am in the eighth grade at St. Louis School. I want to start by thanking you for supporting St. Louis. Without you, I would not have been able to attend this school, and I would not have made the memories that will last a lifetime, friends that will last a lifetime, and an education that will help me throughout my life.

Thank you for supporting St. Louis Catholic School. I really appreciate all you have done to help our school. You have helped benefit my education, and you have made a difference in my time at St. Louis.

I have attended St. Louis since I was 2 years old, in the ECDC. Several of my classmates then are still in my class now, so I have known some of my friends for my whole life. We have played sports, read books, and learned so much together. We have an amazing religion program, and we all know that God loves us. I am an altar server and was named Master of Ceremonies at the beginning of the year. Also, we have a beautiful campus, amazing events, such as Fun Fest and the Cougar Chase, a great sports program, and access to technology with our Chromebooks. This is all because of your support. I have made so many memories at this school, and it’s safe to say that I spend more time on this campus that I do my own house. Whether it’s helping my parents out with the Home and School Association, or it’s staying for Student Council and National Junior Honor Society, this place is a second home to me. Thank you again for supporting this school and this parish.

My time at St. Louis has given me memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. Some of my favorite memories are from this current year, eighth grade. With our kindergarten buddies we had Watermelon Day and a Resurrection Egg Hunt. The whole class also put on a reenactment of the Stations of the Cross, and we went on a retreat to T-Bar-M. I have been at St. Louis for 10 years, and I will certainly remember all the fun I had during this time. Thank you so much for supporting our school! I will definitely remember the impact you have had on our school. Sincerely,

Sincerely, John - Class of 2018

Your support has given our school the opportunity to give Chromebooks to all students in third through eighth grade. They give us the opportunity to learn more than we could’ve imagined! Going to Catholic school has made a difference in my education. I get to have religion class everyday, and I have made life-long friends with all the students in my class. I also have the opportunity to be an altar server and praise God, which is one thing I wouldn’t get to experience by going to public school.

Home visits are at the very heart of the SVDP Society. Unlike other agencies that require those seeking help to visit their offices, during their hours and usually to wait in line to speak to someone, Vincentians visit our neighbors in their homes, on their schedule. These visits are conducted by a pair of Vincentians who have been assigned their case at our Tuesday evening conference meeting. At this meeting we also are informed of the available budget for helping individuals and families, based upon your current donation level. After contacting them to schedule a home visit, we meet with our assigned neighbors in their homes, which may be a group home, an individual home or an apartment. We introduce ourselves and explain that we are representing you, the parishioners of St. Louis Catholic Church. We thank them for the privilege of visiting their home and for allowing us the opportunity to help them. We then ask them to describe their situation and carefully listen to everything they say. After listening and asking a few questions, we are then better able to focus the limited aid that we have available and to provide them with information about other sources of aid available to them, such as our food pantry and other helping agencies. Many of our neighbors have never asked for help before and they do not know what their options are here in Austin. We also ask them about their future plans and provide support and encouragement. After our discussions are completed, we close each visit in prayer, expressing our gratitude for God’s many blessings and asking for His continuing help. As stated in our Groundrules For Visitation: Our role in serving those in need is twofold. First, it is to show those who are in need that God cares about them; He cares so much that He sent us to do what we can to help. Second, our role is to make life a little better for them right now, this moment, to give them some hope.

LADIES AUXILIARY, KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 5967

KC Ladies Auxiliary is known for their delicious desserts, but we are more than just baking. We are an organization that supports the goals of the Knights of Columbus, Council 5967. Our meeting’s emphasis is on our mission to serve, to enrich our spiritual life and to promote a spirit of friendship among the ladies. We meet on the fourth Monday of each month beginning in September and ending in May at Wozniak Hall, Room 1. Any lady over 18 years of age, Catholic or non-Catholic, whose husband, father, son, brother or sweetheart is a Knight is eligible to join the Auxiliary. Due to the support of the St. Louis Community in our fundraising activities, we were able to share a total of $3,000 between six organizations; St. Louis Music Ministry, St. Louis Food Pantry, St. Louis Mobile Loaves and Fishes, St. Louis Statue Restoration, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and The Dominican Sisters. The KC Ladies Auxiliary thanks you for your support. Your help enabled us to accomplish our mission this year.
