wish to inform you that Deacon Jesse Martinez has petitioned for the Order of Presbyter in the Diocese of Austin through the imposition of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit by Bishop Joe Vásquez on June 3, 2017 at St. William in Round Rock, Texas. On behalf of the Church, Rev. Jonathan Raia, Vocation Director for the Diocese of Austin, wants to thank you, the people of his pastoral year parish, for your generous support of Deacon Jesse. It is through your prayers, encouragement, and support that there are many vocations to the priesthood. Please keep Deacon Jesse and all seminarians in your daily prayers. If you have any grave concerns affecting his ordination to the priesthood, please contact the Office of Vocations of the Diocese of Austin at (512) 949-2405. Mother’s (and Father’s) Day soon arriving what better gift to give this loved one, whether living or deceased, than a spiritual bouquet of prayers for them and you too. Clerical Endowment Fund cards offer a spiritual bouquet of Masses and daily prayers by the Bishop and seminarians for the enrolled as well as the benefactor. Funds raised from the sale of the cards are given to the Bishop to aid in the education of seminarians. The parish office has cards in English and Spanish year-round. Cards valued at $2 or $5 offer a year of spiritual benefits. Perpetual prayers and Masses come with a $25 individual, $50 family or $100 group donation. They are a unique way to honor living or deceased relatives or friends for any celebratory occasion. COLLECTION FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE FOR THE MILITARY SERVICEs is May 27-28. This collection is taken

every third year and helps support our military chaplains as they minister to the American servicemen and women around the world. This collection, scheduled on Memorial Day weekend, reminds us of those who serve our country, often with the sacrifice of their own lives. Please give generously using the special envelope from your packets and place it in the regular collection that weekend. If you don’t get parish envelopes, look for extra envelopes in the tract racks before that weekend. CHILDREN’S LITURGY ENDS THIS WEEKEND! This

weekend is the last Children’s Liturgy at 9:30 and 1:30 Sunday Masses until Religious Education classes resume in the fall. Have a great summer, enjoying weekly Mass with your children! See you in September! VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IS NOT BEING HELD

at St. Louis this summer. VBS is a wonderful program but requires a large group of volunteers to coordinate, plan and run it. We regret the decision, but coordinators and volunteers are in short supply as vacations and other activities interfere with their participation. We give thanks for our wonderful volunteers who support the religious education programs of this parish from August through May! You and your families deserve a break and we applaud your dedicated support during the school year! If you are interested in helping with a VBS program in 2018, please contact Betty Franceschi at Beatriz. franceschi@st-louis.org no later than November 2017. Because of your generosity, our St. Louis Food Pantry has received donations that surpassed the cost of the freezer we needed to purchase!! We are humbled by your support and will apply all funds in support of the neediest among us! God bless the donors, with grateful thanks from your Food Pantry volunteers and clients! THANK YOU, PARISHIONERS!!!!!

“What makes us human is not our mind, but our heart, not our ability to think, but our ability to love!” – Henri Nouwen In April, the 8th graders at St. Louis Catholic School went on their annual retreat to T Bar M in New Braunfels. The inspiration for the retreat was Henri Nouwen’s biography, A Restless Seeking for God, and his book, Life of the Beloved. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Alberto and lessons were led by Mrs. Conway (8 th grade), Coach Ferrales (Athletic Director), Mr. Gomez (Religion), and Seminarian Chris. The kids enjoyed staying the night, challenging themselves on the ropes course, and campfire prayer. The students came back feeling more united as a class and re-energized as they spend their last month of school together. They know that no matter what happens, God is always with them. What a great way to finish the year and create memories that will last a lifetime.

YOUR ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

made 6 home visits during the week ending on April 4th. We helped 5 families with rent and 1 family with utilities. We also gave out HEB cards, bus passes, and clothing vouchers for the thrift store. One recent case was that of a man who needed some help with his rent. Because of your support, we were able to provide him with some assistance, and we also discovered during our visit that he had taken out a payday loan last year. Payday loans are also called & predatory loans & because they charge extremely high interest rates (some as high as 400%) and often trap borrowers into an endless cycle from which they can't escape. The SVDP Diocesan Council of Austin has a program through which they can pay off these loans for people and replace them with very low-interest loans (2.25%). The program is worked through Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union. In our client's case, he qualified for the program, so his payday loan was paid off, and he now has a savings account and a low-interest loan that he can manage. Our volunteers concluded their visit by praying with him.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SPIRITUAL, PHYSICAL & EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF:

COLLECTION FOR THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION will be held on May 13-14.

The U.S. Bishops have approved this special one-time collection to support the completion of the Trinity Dome, the crowning jewel of the Basilica. The National Shrine has been almost a century in the making, since its foundation stone was laid in 1920. Known as Mary’s Shrine, and as America’s Catholic Church, it is an authentic reflection of the diversity of cultures and ethnicities in the U.S., evidenced in the more than 80 chapels and oratories dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. This great Marian shrine exists today because of the generosity of American Catholics and Clergy, the prayers of the faithful and the hard work of the artisans and laborers who began building it nearly 100 years ago. Since this collection is the same weekend as our Parish Social Ministry 2nd collection, we ask that you use your Basilica envelope from your packets and place that in the regular first collection along with your tithes and offerings to St. Louis. Thank you for your generosity! 7
