FALL PASTOR’S SERIES:

Evenings with Father Merton and Father Misko THURSDAYS AT 7:00 P.M. – WOZNIAK HALL OCTOBER 20, 27, NOVEMBER 3, 10, 17

Perhaps the central theme of all of Thomas Merton’s writings is contemplation, something that belongs to all the baptized and that stands at the heart of Christian life. Join our Pastor in this fall series and enrich your own spiritual life. The books that will accompany Fr. Misko’s talks are not required reading, but may enhance your understanding of Merton: Thoughts in Solitude, New Seeds of Contemplation and The Intimate Merton. Plan to join us in Wozniak Hall for these five evenings with Merton and Misko! Pre-registration is not required. EIM WORKSHOPS COMING TO ST. LOUIS – NOVEMBER 12 | All clergy and paid staff, and all volunteers

working with youth and vulnerable adults, at any parish or diocesan location, are required to complete a one-time Application for Ministry prior to beginning their work/service and attend an EIM workshop within 60 days of submitting the application. An English EIM Workshop will be held Saturday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m. – arrive promptly as the workshop will start on time and late arrivals will not be permitted entrance. ANNOUNCEMENTS Recently, we’ve had several smashed car windows with the thief seeing something of potential value in the vehicles. Please remember to always lock-up your valuables in the trunk of your car, hide them or take them with you. Unfortunately, just because your vehicle is parked in the Church lot, doesn’t make it immune to such misfortune. Incidents like this can happen in a matter of seconds. Even a child’s back-pack may tempt a thief to smash your window and grab the item. Park smart…..hide all packages, briefcases, purses and back-packs from view and lock your vehicles! CAR BREAK-INS ARE BACK!

CALLING ALL SINGERS AT 11:30 AM! There are openings

for musicians in the Cecilia Singers (formerly the Family Choir)! We are also always looking for more people, youth or adults, to play guitar, percussion, violin, flute, clarinet, and more. Rehearsals are Thursday nights at 7:15-8:30 pm, and no audition is required. If you enjoy singing contemporary music at the 11:30 am mass, then come join us. For more information, contact Scott at scott.mcnulty@st-louis.org or (512) 454-0384. INTO THE HEART: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE THEOLOGY OF THE BODY | Into the Heart is a follow-up

to An Introduction to the Theology of the Body. This is a 16-part study that moves you deeper into this life-changing message, enabling you to apply and integrate it into every aspect of your life. Here you will be given the tools to develop the sacramental worldview so crucial to living an authentic human sexuality. You will learn what saints and mystics alike have always known: a life of ecstasy and deep union with God is not only possible - it is actually a lot closer than you think. This study will be provided in a streaming format with group discussions available on Monday evenings from 7pm-9pm. To register and for more information, contact Amy Allert at amy.allert@ st-louis.org.

WOMEN OF ST. LOUIS!!! Take this

opportunity to enjoy being with other women of the parish while growing in your faith. A visit to the Schoenstatt Shrine in Austin is planned for Thursday, October 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This small Catholic shrine is an exact replica of the original shrine in Schoenstatt, Germany, which is the center and “power station” of a Catholic religious movement of renewal. What a wonderful way to become acquainted with the shrine and its history. The visit will include a speaker, private prayer time, and rosary. Afterwards, a lunch out is planned at the County Line on the Hill. Those interested in carpooling should meet in the church parking lot by the covered entrance to the narthex. The caravan will leave promptly at 9:30 AM. For those who choose to drive themselves, the shrine is at 225 Addie Roy Road, about two miles west of Loop 360 off Bee Caves Road (FM 2244). Pictures and info at http://www. schoenstatt.us/ For more information about the outing, please call Barbara Matocha at 512-516-5897

It is a bittersweet day at the Society of St Vincent de Paul. Georgette Escutia (pictured on left) joined our ranks in September of 1998, and has worked tirelessly with her visiting partner Julie Sanford. Over the years, this duo has made over 1000 visits to local families in their time of need. But now the time has come for Georgette to retire. Please say a prayer for our neighbors in need of assistance, as the work never ceases.

made 6 home visits during the week ending on 16 August. We helped two families with their utility bills (one with water bill also), one family with their gas bill, two families with their rent, and one family with furniture (a bed). One case was that of a woman recently released from prison who was moving into a group home. She had the rent, but not enough money to also pay the required deposit. Because of your support, we were able to pay the remaining $185 for this deposit. We also provided an HEB gift card, bus passes and information about other sources of aid that are available to her. Our volunteers concluded their visit by praying with her.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SPIRITUAL, PHYSICAL & EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF:

THE 2016-2017 CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL kicks

off in three weeks (Nov. 5-6). This annual appeal for the Diocese of Austin has some significant changes this year. Look for the colorful new “Living Water” pledge cards in the pews that weekend. Watch for a letter from the Bishop with your personalized pledge card, which can be returned with your pledge at any time, even before the campaign begins. There will be new incentives built into the program this year which will reward your parish with chances to win a $5000 grant for our parish operations. These incentives include meeting our parish goal, an additional challenge goal, and increasing the number of donors per parish…..all of which St. Louis accomplished last year! Won’t you join us in pledging your support for the diocesan ministries that are so necessary for the Church of Central Texas! Even if you can’t pledge a monetary gift, we urge you to fill out a pledge, offering your prayers for the success of the appeal! Your prayer pledge will be counted as parish participation! Your generosity will help our Diocese in the areas of Clergy Formation, Catholic Education, LifeCharity- Justice, Pastoral Ministries, and Spirituality and Worship. Thank you for prayerfully discerning your CSA gift in the coming weeks!

Please support St. Louis Catholic School. Buy SCRIP/Gift cards after weekend English Masses.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Popes throughout the ages have encouraged recitation of the rosary for spiritual edification. Great peace can come from considering the Joyful mysteries on Monday and Saturday; the Sorrowful Mysteries, Tuesday and Friday; the Luminous Mysteries on Thursday; and the Glorious Mysteries, Wednesday and Sunday.
