FALL PASTOR’S SERIES:

Evenings with Father Merton and Father Misko THURSDAYS AT 7:00 P.M. – WOZNIAK HALL OCTOBER 27, NOVEMBER 3, 10, 17

Perhaps the central theme of all of Thomas Merton’s writings is contemplation, something that belongs to all the baptized and that stands at the heart of Christian life. Join our Pastor in this fall series and enrich your own spiritual life. The books that will accompany Fr. Misko’s talks are not required reading, but may enhance your understanding of Merton: Thoughts in Solitude, New Seeds of Contemplation and The Intimate Merton. Plan to join us in Wozniak Hall for these five evenings with Merton and Misko! Pre-registration is not required. EIM WORKSHOPS COMING TO ST. LOUIS – NOVEMBER 12 | All clergy and paid staff, and all volunteers

working with youth and vulnerable adults, at any parish or diocesan location, are required to complete a one-time Application for Ministry prior to beginning their work/service and attend an EIM workshop within 60 days of submitting the application. ANNOUNCEMENTS

THE 2016-2017 CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL kicks off CALLING ALL SINGERS AT 11:30 AM! There are openings

for musicians in the Cecilia Singers (formerly the Family Choir)! We are also always looking for more people, youth or adults, to play guitar, percussion, violin, flute, clarinet, and more. Rehearsals are Thursday nights at 7:15-8:30 pm, and no audition is required. If you enjoy singing contemporary music at the 11:30 am mass, then come join us. For more information, contact Scott at scott.mcnulty@st-louis.org or (512) 454-0384. INTO THE HEART: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE THEOLOGY OF THE BODY | Into the Heart is a follow-up

to An Introduction to the Theology of the Body. This is a 16-part study that moves you deeper into this life-changing message, enabling you to apply and integrate it into every aspect of your life. Here you will be given the tools to develop the sacramental worldview so crucial to living an authentic human sexuality. You will learn what saints and mystics alike have always known: a life of ecstasy and deep union with God is not only possible - it is actually a lot closer than you think. This study will be provided in a streaming format with group discussions available on Monday evenings from 7pm-9pm. To register and for more information, contact Amy Allert at amy.allert@st-louis.org. 2016 BABY BANK CAMPAIGN began with the

distribution of Baby Banks. Families are asked to collect loose change during October, Respect Life Month, and then return their Baby Banks to the parish October 29-30. This annual fund supports the various projects sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Pro-Life Activities, including Gabriel Project, Project Rachel, Pro-Life Help Line, Sidewalk Ministry, awareness and education. Our parish Gabriel Project will benefit from 50% of the funds collected, so please be generous! ALL SAINTS DAY, November 1, is a Holy Day of Obligation

this year. Masses will be held that day at 6:30am, 8:00am, 12 Noon, 6:00pm in English and 7:30pm in Spanish. Please join us at one of these scheduled times! ALL SOULS DAY, November 2, is not a day of obligation, but

you are invited to come and pray for your deceased loved ones at 7:00am and 7:00pm. The evening Mass will include the King’s Choir. All Souls envelopes are available in tract racks if you’d like to list your deceased family members. These envelopes are placed on the altar all Masses during the month of November. 3

Nov. 5-6. This annual appeal for the Diocese of Austin has some significant changes this year. Look for the colorful new “Living Water” pledge cards in the pews that weekend. Watch for a letter from the Bishop with your personalized pledge card, which can be returned with your pledge at any time, even before the campaign begins. There will be new incentives built into the program this year which will reward your parish with chances to win a $5000 grant for our parish operations. These incentives include meeting our parish goal, an additional challenge goal, and increasing the number of donors per parish…..all of which St. Louis accomplished last year! Won’t you join us in pledging your support for the diocesan ministries that are so necessary for the Church of Central Texas! Even if you can’t pledge a monetary gift, we urge you to fill out a pledge, offering your prayers for the success of the appeal! Your prayer pledge will be counted as parish participation! Your generosity will help our Diocese in the areas of Clergy Formation, Catholic Education, Life-Charity- Justice, Pastoral Ministries, and Spirituality and Worship. Thank you for prayerfully discerning your CSA gift in the coming weeks! YES, WE ARE SELLING TAMALES AGAIN!

The Knights of Columbus, Council #5967 are again selling tamales after the 6:00am, 7:30am and the 9:30am Masses during the first three Sundays of each month, at Wozniak Hall only. Cost for a dozen will be $7.00. made 8 home visits during the week ending on 30 August. We helped 3 families with their utility bills and 4 families with their rent. Another case was that of a man who had recently moved into the area and was temporarily living in a group home. He was trying to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver’s License so that he could resume his former occupation as a bus driver. To get his license, he needed to get his birth certificate from Detroit. He asked for help with the $22 fee required by the county. Because of your support, we were able to pay this fee for him. We also provided an HEB gift card, a bus pass and information on other low cost housing options. Our volunteers concluded their visit by praying with him. It is a bittersweet day at the Society of St Vincent de Paul. Georgette Escutia (pictured on left) joined our ranks in September of 1998, and has worked tirelessly with her visiting partner Julie Sanford. Over the years, this duo has made over 1000 visits to local families in their time of need. But now the time has come for Georgette to retire. Please say a prayer for our neighbors in need of assistance, as the work never ceases. EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES! Mobile

Halloween Fact: Halloween can be a controversial holiday, and many people worry that it is evil or satanic in nature and think that it must be avoided at all costs. Even though this holiday has been popularized by modern culture to be something that seems dark and evil, it is in fact a Catholic holiday. It is the vigil leading into the Feast of All Saints, and it stood alone as such for about 1,000 years. The later developments in popular culture should not stop us from celebrating as Catholics an innocent and fun holiday.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Popes throughout the ages have encouraged recitation of the rosary for spiritual edification. Great peace can come from considering the Joyful mysteries on Monday and Saturday; the Sorrowful Mysteries, Tuesday and Friday; the Luminous Mysteries on Thursday; and the Glorious Mysteries, Wednesday and Sunday. For more history on the Rosary or devotional booklets, stop by our Parish Library.
