Living Our Faith

The focus in today’s gospel most commonly falls on the ‘greatest and the least’. Jesus emphasizes this with the little child he placed in his arms. However what happens earlier in the gospel tells us that Jesus is asking us to go much further than a person’s status in society. And it is quite likely that the apostles soon realized that Jesus’ prediction of his death and resurrection meant that following him would require far more effort, courage and sacrifice than had been required of them to that point. But they weren’t quite ready to acknowledge it. We can also feel that we’re not ready to make that move toward God; to be willing to put our lives and our faith completely in his hands. However, just like the apostles, he is always with us to lovingly help us on our journey to eternal life with him – which is far better than our social status or creature comforts. We need only to ask him with a genuine heart and be open to his voice and his plan.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe
