Living Our Faith

At first glance it seems as though the focus in today’s gospel is on justice for the dishonest steward. He had made poor choices and it was time for an accounting. That is true, however, if we look a little deeper, we can see that God is actually working through him and giving him a chance to take the more honorable path. The steward could have engraciated himself with his master’s debtors even more – and secured a higher place for himself in their homes once he was unemployed – by writing their debts down to below what they actually owed. Instead, he chose to set things right; to honor his master’s debts accurately and only write off the excessive profits. His master had a true accounting of what was owed, the debtors were accountable for the true amount of their debt, and the dishonest steward made the choice to act prudently. We can be faced with similar choices in our daily lives at any time. Even if we have made poor choices in the past, he teaches that we can still allow him to work through us to do what is right. And the more we allow him into our hearts, the more he will entrust each of us with greater wealth. september 18, 2016

Garcia, Auxiliary Bishop of Austin will be with us in Wozniak Hall on Tuesday, September 20th from 7:00-9:00pm. Viviendo Nuestra Fe
