INTERIORS Autumn WITH ELIZA GRACE
HHi, I’m Eliza, the resident stylist at Homemaker The Valley. I conduct styling sessions at the centre to assist with your home styling queries and help you select the perfect pieces for your space. Today I am going to be sharing with you my top tips for creating a cosy autumn oasis in your home and what is trending in home decorating this season.
Autumn brings a sense of cosiness and warmth that has us yearning for time spent at home with the family, snuggling on the sofa or baking in the kitchen. The transitional seasons offer a chance to blend styles together in our home, add layers in the soft furnishings, and inject hues that are reflective of what is occurring in nature. There are a few key styling elements that I refer back to time and time again when switching your home up for the autumn season and creating a cosy and inviting oasis.
Injecting deeper and richer tones into your home styling is essential for shifting your home away from a summer vibe and into an autumn aesthetic. Take inspiration from the outdoors at this time of year when selecting colours to add to your soft furnishings. I love using rich tones of caramel, amber, and ochre in items such as cushions and throw blankets. Select fabrics that are soft to the
touch such as wool, cable knit, and cashmere – fringing or tassels are a bonus for an added cosy feel.
Creating scenes and special moments in your home that evoke a sense of cosiness and comfort are a great way to decorate for autumn. This could include a timber tray on your kitchen island that has a terracotta vase with natural foliage, a caramel scented candle, folded linen napkins, and some stacked handmade bowls. Or placing a comfortable armchair in the corner of the room and layering it with a cable knit throw blanket and felt cushion in a plaid fabric. Autumn styling is about layering, as this creates a sense of warmth in the home and exudes a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.
If you would like some help with selecting the right home décor pieces or pairing the perfect cushion and throw blanket together, then our complimentary styling sessions are the perfect solution. We can discuss ways to add warmth to your home and create an autumn oasis that perfectly reflects you and your family. Simply head to the ‘Styling Inspiration’ tab on our website to book in now.
TREND 01
SCANDISTYLE
The Scandinavian design approach can be easily incorporated into any space thanks to its minimalist elements, understated artwork, and soft colour palettes. The trend is inspired by a Danish concept known as Hygge – meaning to embody a sense of cosiness, warmth, and contentment – making Scandi-style an integral aspect of autumn interiors.
SCANDI-STYLE
White décor, wooden furnishings, modern shapes, and minimalist style are all hallmark traits of the Scandi-style trend. Achieve this cosy and stylish atmosphere in your space with pieces from Homemaker The Valley.

SOOTHING BLUES
Turn your gaze skyward to discover the interior colour of the year – blue. Anticipate a departure from neutrals as colour palettes evolve, with blue emerging as a dominant and beloved hue in interior design. Embrace the versatility of blue as you integrate it into your home through various design elements.
STYLIST TIP
Blue is one of the most calming colours in the spectrum and should therefore be used in spaces that evoke relaxation. I love using blue when decorating a bedroom or living room to bring a sense of calm and encourage wind down time.

EXPERT ADVICE: gallery wall
A comprehensive guide to help you create a stunning gallery wall.
STEP 1
Establish your colour palette
Before arranging your gallery wall, it’s essential to establish a cohesive colour palette. Consider your existing décor and select colours that complement this. A harmonious colour scheme will tie your galley wall together and create a visually pleasing arrangement.
STEP 2
Incorporate various shapes and sizes
Be sure to mix and match different shapes and sizes of artwork in your gallery wall. Integrate horizontal, vertical, and square pieces to add diversity to your gallery. The variation in shapes will prevent monotony and keep the eye engaged as it moves across the display.
STEP 3
Add personal touches
Make your gallery wall bespoke by adding personal touches that reflect your personality and style. Whether it’s a drawing from a friend, a cherished photograph, or a sentimental memento, incorporating personal items adds warmth and authenticity to your display.
STEP 4
Add in dimensional items
Think beyond traditional framed artwork and
consider incorporating dimensional items as well. Textiles, sculptures, and other three-dimensional objects can add depth and texture to your display. Be sure to opt for one non-traditional piece every four frames.
STEP 5
Time to arrange
Once you’ve gathered all your pieces, it’s time to arrange and hang your gallery wall. Start by measuring the space you want your gallery wall to fill and tape off a corresponding area on the floor. This allows you to experiment with different layouts without committing to any nail holes in your wall.
STEP 6
Start with the largest piece
Begin by selecting the largest piece out of everything compiled for your gallery wall. This piece should be placed slightly off-centre to create visual interest without being the focal point of the wall. Next, experiment with positioning the second largest piece diagonally from the largest one. This asymmetrical layout adds dimension and balance to your gallery wall.

BEACH SHACK
Autumn means it’s time to breathe new life into your beach shack and steer away from the typical bright blues and sandy yellows by opting for muted tones instead. With a nod to a fisherman’s cottage, your coastal-inspired interiors can transition seamlessly into the cosy comforts that autumn has to offer.
BEACH SHACK
Elevate your beach shack this season in a way that retains its quintessential coastal allure while also incorporating autumnal additions. How? Add rustic accents, drape throws over wicker and weathered wood furniture, and place nautical motifs throughout for a cosy and coastal ambiance.
