Things are in full swing at Style HQ as we look ahead to what’s next. The Year of the Snake is all about transformation — big changes, but all for the better. Change is in the air, but so is gratitude for life’s little joys and luxuries.
To me, luxury is freedom and flexibility, found in simple moments: morning co ! ee, movement, and quiet time at home. Lately, I’ve been focusing on pausing, resetting, and embracing both the present and what’s to come.
Fittingly, this issue explores modern luxury in all its forms. Our cover star, Brandon, is the definition of a modern gentleman: genuinely kind, down to earth, and impeccably dressed. He embodies the e ! ortless refinement of Edward Street Brisbane, home to the city’s finest luxury menswear retailers, including Mitchell Ogilvie, M.J. Bale, and Montblanc. More on that from page 14.
Speaking of luxury, we asked six business owners to share their modern take on it, whether it’s found in the small things or grand gestures. Their perspectives might just redefine what luxury means to you (page 18).
With Valentine’s Day approaching, love may be in the air — or not. If you’re embracing the solo journey, why not treat yourself to a co ! ee and croissant date? If you’re in the dating game, our etiquette guide (page 34) has you covered. And if you’re looking to spoil someone special (or yourself), turn to page 32 for inspired gifting ideas.
We’ve also ventured o ! -grid and o ! -land with our latest travel features, because sometimes, luxury is simply an escape.
Here’s to leaning into change, celebrating small wins, and living in the moment. See you next month!

What will be the defining trend of the year? Boho Moto, of course! The bold, edgier sibling of Boho Chic, this trend fuses the free-spirited femininity of boho with a rebellious, motorcycle-inspired edge. Think leather jackets paired with flowy skirts, tough details mixed with soft textures. It’s time to channel e ! ortless cool and unapologetic attitude.

MODERN VINTAGE
When two Aussie-turned-LA designers collide, you know it’s going to be good. Heaven Mayhem and Real Fine Studio have joined forces to create a timeless fine jewellery collection featuring tennis necklaces, bracelets, and studs crafted from sterling silver and lab-grown moissanite, seamlessly blending luxury with accessibility.
KIMONO COOL
The kimono is having a major fashion moment; flowing silhouettes, luxe fabrics, and e ! ortless layering make it a wardrobe essential. From bold prints to modern minimalism, this timeless piece is redefining statement dressing.
PONY AROUND
Pony hair brings luxe texture to square-toe heels, elevated with subtle embellishments for a refined touch. This modern classic e ! ortlessly blends sophistication with style, making it a must-have addition to your shoe wardrobe
ALL CHOKED UP
Just like oversized statement earrings made their comeback from the ‘80s, chokers are back but with a ‘25 twist. Forget the ones you remember –now, metallic, sculptural chokers are a must-have accessory in any fashion lover’s wardrobe.

ELECTRIC AVENUE
Why Edward Street is at the intersection of old-world glamour and modern luxury
WORDS CAROLINE ATTWOOD
Take a weekday stroll down Edward Street and you’ll be struck by two things: first, the constant stream of office workers, cyclists and scooters, and two, the presence of some of the world’s biggest names in luxury. Both jostle for space in what has become one of the city’s best retail precincts, housing a potent mix of European powerhouses – Dior, Hermes, Cartier – and local luxury retailers like Mitchell Ogilvie.
It was here, on a blazingly hot Thursday afternoon, that Style’s crew shot this month’s cover story. A fitting locale for an issue dedicated to all facets of luxury, from the obvious – timeless jewellery, tailored suits – to the less-celebrated moments of luxury: a moment alone with a book, or a great coffee in a chic arcade.
All of which, coincidentally, are available on Edward Street. Named after King Edward VIII, Edward Street has been the home of commerce in Brisbane for over 130 years.
Since 1926, Tattersall’s Arcade has been a Brisbane landmark, a luxury retail haven offering everything from international designer names like Longchamp to local treasures like Optiko and Mr. Botanical. Designed by the same architects behind Brisbane City Hall, the arcade also houses the heritage-listed Tattersall’s Club, a shining example of Art Deco architecture.
Nearby, Queens Plaza is Queensland’s luxury shopping epicentre. Anchored by David Jones, it features the world’s most coveted brands including Burberry, Dior, Gucci, and Tiffany & Co.
On the culinary front, Longwang offers a bold Asian fusion menu with inventive cocktails and one of the street’s best terrace bars. Coffee lovers will appreciate hidden gems like Two Sons Coffee, known for its exceptional cold drip, and Marchetti, a cozy Italian café and wine bar perfect for a nostalgic cappuccino.
Edward Street is a haven for timepiece and diamond enthusiasts. Boutiques like The Hour Glass house iconic brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet. Across the road, Brisbane institution Mitchell Ogilvie is a one-stop-shop for bespoke tailoring with brands like Brioni and Canali. MJ Bale, known for its sustainable yet stylish men’s fashion, is also a must-visit.
Edward Street is also Brisbane’s unofficial diamond district, with stunning pieces from local and international names including AG Designer Jewellery, Lannah Dunn, Cartier and Tiffany & Co.
For a little me-time, Esquire Male Grooming provides the city’s top barber services, while Fox in a Box Escape Rooms offers immersive, puzzle-solving fun—a perfect way to unwind after a day of shopping and exploring.

THE MODERN GENTLEMAN
QUICKFIRE QUESTIONS:
SUNRISE OR SUNSET?
That’s tough, but I’d have to say sunset.
BEACH OR MOUNTAINS? Beach, no contest.
SWEET OR SAVOURY? Savoury, every time.
From the quiet streets of Welkom, South Africa, to the bustling streets of Brisbane, Brandon Faber is quickly becoming a name to watch in the fashion world. Brandon moved to Australia in 2005, growing up playing cricket and spending his days outdoors, just like many other Aussie kids. “Cricket has always been a huge part of my life,” he says. “Growing up, I always dreamed of playing for Australia. Now, I coach juniors and mentor the next generation.” Cricket is still a big part of his life, but these days, modelling has become his new obsession, a path he only stepped onto a year ago when he was discovered by Chic Brisbane.
When we reached out to Brandon to feature in our February luxury edition, he was immediately on board. “It’s been an incredible experience working with Style,” he shares. “I’m excited to see where it goes next.” As the fashion world begins to take notice, Brandon has big aspirations. When I asked about his dream clients, he doesn’t hesitate: “Hugo Boss, Prada, Ralph Lauren,” he says with conviction. “They represent the class and sophistication I admire.”
Closer to home, Brandon admires the understated style of Gold Coast brand Alfred’s Apartment. “I love their vibe. It’s so unique, yet familiar in a way. I’d love to work with them,” he adds.
When he’s not in front of the camera, he enjoys the simple pleasures in life: spending time at the beach, walking his dog, or taking a jet ski ride. “The ocean is my happy place,” he says. “There’s something about being near the water that helps me reset.”
Brandon’s love for life’s finer things extends to his newfound passion for wine. “I’ve been getting into different grape varieties, the art of winemaking, and finding the perfect food pairings,”
he explains. “It’s a whole new world of indulgence,” which he finds to be the perfect way to unwind after a busy day on set.
For Brandon, luxury isn’t just about material things - it’s about personal growth. “I’m a firm believer in embracing who you are and growing from every experience,” he says. “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” His mindset reflects the ideals of a modern gentleman – refined, evolving, and unafraid to step outside his comfort zone.
Brandon gravitates toward timeless, classic style, and if he could raid any celebrity’s wardrobe, David Beckham’s would be his first pick. “His wardrobe is the epitome of class. It’s everything I aspire to in fashion,” he says. As for his own personal style, he takes an effortlessly cool approach, always making the simple look luxe. For the cover shoot, he wore menswear from Mitchell Ogilvie, M.J. Bale, and Montblanc – perfect choices for his understated style. When asked about trends, he surprised me by mentioning overalls. “They’re fun, versatile, and always a great conversation starter,” he says.
And as for his favourite dish? “Steak and chips. It’s simple, delicious, and unbeatable,” he laughs. Just the kind of honest answer you’d expect from someone who knows how to enjoy life. Brandon was a natural to work witheasygoing, ambitious, and genuinely down-to-earth. He’s the kind of guy who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it, whether it’s in fashion, sport, or life. With his good looks, confidence, and appreciation for the finer things, he’s carving out a path to success, and something tells me this is just the beginning.
WORDS KIRI JOHNSTON
REFINED REALITIES
We spoke with Brisbane’s business owners to get their take on luxury – from small moments of joy to bespoke treasures that hold lasting meaning.
@CAROLINEJATTWOOD
TO ME, LUXURY IS A FEELING
Ashley Portas, founder of Diamondport, defines luxury as simplicity and e ! ortless elegance. For him, it’s about creating lasting beauty without rushing the process.
“Luxury is about evoking a sublime feeling. For me, it’s simplicity in design — minimalist, unrushed, and effortless. It’s difficult to articulate, but you know luxury when you feel it.”
How did working with diamond merchants shape your approach to jewellery? I began my career with a diamond merchant, interacting with bespoke jewellers and learning what makes a jewellery business thrive. At Diamondport, I focus on transparency, honesty, and accessibility, especially for clients purchasing their first significant piece. I’ve never worked for a jeweller before, so I focused on creating a customercentric, ego-free experience rooted in care. How do you balance design with client expectations for luxury in your engagement rings? First and foremost, our engagement rings are designed to be worn daily. Balancing design with practicality is key — they need to be visually stunning yet durable and comfortable. A strong foundation and wearability are integral to achieving luxury that lasts. What factors do you consider when selecting diamonds and materials for clients? We prioritise diamonds with excellent cut, polish, and symmetry for maximum radiance. When selecting materials, we explain how each
alloy performs in hand-fabrication or casting, helping clients make informed decisions. This hands-on approach eliminates confusion often caused by salespeople without direct experience. Can you recall a moment when a piece of jewellery truly amazed you or a client? It’s not always about the most expensive pieces. Sometimes, a new design for a men’s wedding ring or remodelling a client’s old jewellery truly stands out. I’m constantly amazed by my team’s skill in transforming and enhancing pieces, ensuring they look extraordinary. It’s all about the final finish, angles, and execution. How do you see the jewellery industry evolving with changing tastes and sustainability trends? It’s hard to predict, but I believe sustainability will play an increasingly significant role. Clients are starting to prefer recycled gold and sustainable diamonds or gemstones. While lab-grown diamonds and yellow gold are trending now, tastes evolve, and I anticipate shifts in preferences over time, though I can’t say exactly when.
TO ME, LUXURY
MEANS
HEALTH, WEALTH, AND TIME
From turning dreams into diamonds to pushing the boundaries of design, Drew Brown, founder of BrownHaus, shares the passion and creativity that fuel his one-of-a-kind jewellery creations.
“The health to feel vibrant and alive, the wealth to enjoy the finer things in life, and the time to savour” them fully with those I love. It’s about living with freedom, balance, and appreciation for every moment.
What’s your favourite part of the BrownHaus design process? My favourite part is transforming someone’s vision into reality. Seeing the joy and awe on their face when they see their piece for the first time is indescribable — it’s why we do what we do. What’s your top advice for someone creating their first bespoke engagement ring? Lean toward timeless designs with a touch of personalisation — and always prioritise durability. It’s a piece meant to last a lifetime, so balance sentiment with practicality. What’s the most memorable piece your team has crafted and
why? The Elysian ring, part of our new BrownHaus Vault collection, stands out. It features a breathtaking 4.15ct emerald-cut emerald surrounded by a constellation of 148 natural diamonds. It’s memorable not just for its beauty, but because it required every ounce of our team’s expertise to bring it to life. What’s the most exciting thing about your new Newstead location? We fell in love with Newstead’s energy immediately. The Longland precinct is brimming with innovative venues and an undeniable vibe. It felt like the perfect home for BrownHaus.
TO ME, LUXURY IS EMBRACING NATURE
Embracing the lush life, Tennille Leslie, owner and creator of The Plant Bunker in Grange, finds abundant inspiration in simple connections and the beauty of the natural world.
“Having nature at your fingertips, being able to choose natural and simple, and drinking your morning brew from a handmade mug.”
What sparked the creation of The Plant Bunker? I’ve been into interiors and styling since I was little, thanks to my mum’s home magazines. My intense love for plants came after we renovated our house in The Gap, and I discovered how simple they were to add style. The Plant Bunker began under our home in late 2019 as a hobby business to keep me sane and feed my soul while being a stay-at-home mum. How does your store o ering reflect your idea of luxury for your customers? Plants are a perfect connection with nature and allow you to tap into your inner peace when nurturing them. It’s a luxury to fill our homes with flourishing green life! At The Plant Bunker, we also sell a lot of homewares and gifts with a focus on local, handmade, and natural products wherever possible—keeping it simple and connected when we can. How do you cultivate meaningful connection with your community? When The Plant
Bunker began, I felt our Instagram, @theplantbunker_brisbane, was a big part of what we were and how we got recognised. However, since moving to our Grange location at 126 Days Road, I’ve focused a lot more on establishing grassroots connections in the local community. We’re all about giving people a happy space within an urban jungle escape. How do you keep your creative energy flowing? A proper soulful rest, getting out to the river, and yoga—that’s where so much of the good stu ! bubbles back to the surface, and my brain starts sparking with excitement for an idea. What’s ahead for The Plant Bunker? We’ve secured a nice long lease in our new space, so we plan to be here for a long time! I’ve tried to create a ‘kid in a candy store’ feel to our space, so visiting is more of an experience than just buying ‘stu ! ’. We also have a new online store (sofunkincute.com.au) for those who love an online scroll.
TO ME, LUXURY IS INDULGING IN SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY
Crafting impeccable dining experiences that don’t just meet expectations but exceed them, John Gambaro of the iconic Gambaro Group knows how to leave a lasting impression.
“The goal is to transport guests into a different world, where they can escape their daily lives and indulge in something extraordinary.”
How do you honour the iconic Gambaro legacy while keeping things fresh? We ensure each new venture embodies the same dedication to quality and hospitality that has long defined the Gambaro brand. For example, Black Hide’s extension to Queen’s Wharf from its iconic Caxton Street location represents a natural progression into a worldclass dining experience, creating an elevated setting that feels both familiar and new. What does a day in your life look like? I approach my work with the same sense of care, respect, and commitment that I have toward my family. When it comes to running the venues, no two days are exactly the same. I spend a lot of time overseeing operations, collaborating with our talented teams, and ensuring that each venue upholds the standards we’re known for – exceptional service, highquality food, and creating memorable experiences for our guests. How do you balance individuality while staying true to the brand? The key lies in our unwavering commitment to excellence across all areas.
This includes sourcing the finest ingredients, providing personalised service, and crafting unforgettable moments for our guests, no matter which venue they choose. What excites you most about the future of Brisbane’s dining scene? There’s an evident shift toward innovative dining experiences, with chefs and restaurateurs pushing boundaries, experimenting with new ingredients, and reimagining traditional dishes. At Gambaro Group, we’re committed to bringing fresh, locally sourced ingredients to the table and remain focused on staying ahead of trends. With so many successes under your belt, what’s next for Gambaro Group? While the Gambaro brand has been synonymous with Brisbane for many years, we plan to continue expanding our footprint on the Gold Coast, as we did in 2024 opening Pipi’s and Awaken Café. We’re also searching for a brand new home for the iconic Gambaro’s Seafood Restaurant that reflects our passion for fresh, sustainable seafood and an unforgettable dining experience.
TO ME, LUXURY IS HEALTH AND TIME
Award-winning Brisbane hairdresser Craig Smith redefines luxury with his personalised service and timeless expertise.
“Health, time and a sense of space are definite comfort commodities for me”
How do you incorporate luxury into your salon brand? Never cut corners on comfort. Ensure sta ! feel part of something special first, so they can pass that feeling on to clients, and select suppliers who know and understand the cultural cachet. Is luxury defined more by skill or the connection you build with clients? I’d say both. For luxury to have longevity, a stylist needs the skill to create a lasting look, but creating a premium haircut starts with an authentic conversation. I believe our 25-year heritage is a testament to the importance of getting to know our clients. Luxury is not a ‘one size fits all’ experience at Fruition! Can you share a memorable moment when you gave a client an extraordinary luxury experience? Decadence doesn’t always have to be about ‘things’; it can be about serving someone in a way that makes them feel like the centre of the universe. Whether it’s walking a client to their car under an umbrella, opening the salon door upon arrival, or making
their co ! ee extra hot because that’s how they like it, all these small touches contribute to a luxury experience. How do you make luxury feel accessible to all your clients? It doesn’t matter what you do, where you live, or who you love. We will pour a glass of champagne, have a good conversation, and carefully curate a unique haircut that places you in a lane of prestige. How has your approach to luxury evolved over the course of your career? From the beginning, ambiance, aesthetics, undivided attention, and highly skilled services have remained our focus. Advances in technology, innovative product introductions, and ongoing training ensure that we continue to evolve in how we deliver luxury. After achieving numerous hairdressing awards, what are your next goals for Fruition? Our goal is to continue building on our strong brand reputation for superior quality, and perhaps venture into new communities who appreciate hairdressing services that o ! er something a little di ! erent.
TO ME, LUXURY IS ABOUT FREEDOM
Meet the creative mind behind TOHM Collective, Anna Stickley, business owner, mum, and curator of luxury jewellery. From sourcing unique pieces to collaborating with international designers, she shares what it takes to bring bespoke elegance to Brisbane’s discerning clientele.
What does a typical day in your life as a business owner look like? Every day is unique. Mornings usually start early with a co ! ee and some sort of exercise before checking emails that came through from designers overnight (I’m always juggling quite a few time zones!). The rest of my day is a blend of creative and operational work, from curating content for social media, working with designers, or meeting with clients to bring their custom creations to life, there’s always something in motion. And of course, the usual mum duties! Why do you think luxury jewellery sourced from Europe, United Kingdom and United States resonates so strongly with your Brisbane clientele? Brisbane has a sophisticated and diverse clientele that values timeless craftsmanship and international luxury, but what resonates most with my clients here is the storytelling behind each piece and the heritage of the designers. Many of the designers we work with have incredibly meaningful backstories—whether it’s a generational family business that has evolved over time or two sisters creating future heirlooms together. For Brisbane clients, it’s also about having the opportunity to experience these pieces in person. Do you have a favourite
“Luxury is about freedom — the freedom to choose, to pause, and to embrace moments that bring joy and meaning.”
piece from the collection right now? I absolutely adore all the pieces from TOHM’s collection, but if I had to pick, I’m currently obsessed with the Ananya Chakra Icon Bracelet and the Gemella Jewels Stella Bar Necklace. What’s been your most exciting collection, collaboration, or client experience so far? One that stands out recently is hosting our first Melbourne trunk show alongside stylist, Elliot Garnaut. Overall, my favourite experience is working with designers to create custom pieces for clients. Bringing a unique vision to life and seeing their joy when they receive a finished piece is always a pinch me moment. To you, what does luxury truly mean? To me, luxury is sleeping past 6am - a rare occurrence these days. Beyond that, luxury is about freedom—the freedom to choose, to pause, and to embrace moments that bring joy and meaning. It’s about finding beauty and connection in something deeply personal, whether it’s a piece of jewellery, a treasured memory, or simply time for yourself and your family. It’s about the liberation of choosing quality over quantity, meaning over trend, and individuality over convention. That’s the heart of TOHM as a brand at the end of the day.

FRAME YOUR FUTURE
Don’t hold this magazine at arm’s length any longer — let’s dive into expert tips for healthy eyes, from UV protection to stylish frames!
What’s the one essential eye care tip everyone should know? Protect your eyes from UV rays! Wearing sunglasses with 100% UV protection isn’t just about fashion. It’s about preventing long-term damage like macular degeneration and cataracts. Also, don’t skip your regular eye exams, even if your vision seems fine. With so many great frames, how do you recommend choosing the perfect pair that’s stylish and supports eye health? Start with frames that complement your face shape, skin tone, and personal style. Think of them as an extension of your personality. But don’t stop there, ensure the lenses support your eye health too. For example, if you spend a lot of time outdoors, opt for lenses with 100% UV protection. If you’re in front of screens all day, consider blue light-blocking lenses. The key is collaboration: your glasses should make a bold fashion statement while protecting and supporting your vision needs. A great optometrist can help you achieve both! What’s one thing
about eye health that always seems to slip under the radar? Regular eye exams can detect early signs of conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and even certain neurological issues, often before other symptoms appear. It’s amazing how much your eyes can reveal, yet this critical aspect of eye care often goes unnoticed. What are your top three tips for keeping eyes happy and healthy after a day of screen time? One, follow the 20-20-20 Rule: Take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to focus on an object 20 feet away. Two, proper Lighting: Ensure adequate lighting to avoid screen glare. Three, maintain the Right Distance: Position screens at arm’s length and eye level. What’s one eye health myth you’d love to debunk? One common myth I’d love to debunk is that having 20/20 vision means your eyes are perfectly healthy. Vision clarity is just one part of the picture, there could still be underlying issues like glaucoma or macular degeneration that don’t a ! ect your sight right away.

What’s that sound?
When life feels a little overwhelming, Tanya AliJani, sound healer and founder of RIISE, is here to guide you back to balance. With her calming blend of sound, breathwork, and meditation, she o ! ers real healing. No gimmicks—just a peaceful recharge whenever you’re ready to unwind.
WORDS YANA VAN DER BYL
What was your “aha” moment that sparked your journey Music has always been a language of emotion, a way to feel and process what words often couldn’t. My mum, a beautiful singer, filled our home with music, and it became part of how we connected as a family. Later in life, I had a transformative experience during a meditation retreat that changed me forever. That moment changed my life path and propelled me to study yoga and breathwork. Something profound was sparked within me; I just knew I needed to learn more. How would you describe sound healing All you need is an open mind and the willingness to simply lay down and let the sound move through you. It’s often described as a “sound bath” because you’re literally bathed in frequencies that wash over and through you, creating a deeply immersive experience. Think of sound waves like the signals from Wi-Fi or radio - they’re invisible, but they carry energy and can a ! ect the environment around them. You’ve launched RIISE, what’s the vibe of the app RIISE is a passion project designed to help people create their own rituals for transformation through breath, sound, and meditation. At its core is the 21-Day Reset
Challenge, aimed at habit formation and brain rewiring through neuroplasticity. Practices are simple, accessible, and flexible, with options to connect through livestream classes. What are the most transformative stories from sound healing One client had struggled with anxiety for over 20 years and had been on medication for most of that time. The sessions helped them release deep-seated emotional blocks, calm their nervous system, and reconnect with peace. Over time, they were able to reduce their medication with their doctor’s guidance. Clients also describe visionary experiences, where sound and breath bring vivid imagery, profound insights, and a sense of connection to something greater. These stories remind me why I’m so passionate about this work. What’s next for the future of sound healing Sound healing and apps like RIISE represent the start of a shift in how we approach healing and self-care. SMOOTH MOVES
Varicose veins might seem like an inevitable part of aging, but with the right lifestyle changes, you can protect your veins and keep them healthy for years to come. Here’s how to make smooth moves to control of your vein health.
While varicose veins often run in families, lifestyle choices can help delay or prevent their development. Regular exercise, like walking or swimming, strengthens veins and improves circulation. Maintaining a healthy weight reduces pressure on your veins, while elevating your legs for just 15-20 minutes
a few times a day encourages blood flow back to your heart. Taking breaks to move if you sit or stand for long periods helps prevent strain, and wearing compression stockings supports healthy circulation. Though you can’t change your genetics, these habits can protect your veins and keep them healthy for years to come.
THE TAN LINE DILEMMA
In 2025, the “perfect tan” trend returns, raising concerns in sun-soaked Australia. Three Warriors’ Meagan Pate and Corbin Halliday highlight the risks and advocate for sunless tanning as a safer glow.
Hey Meagan, with awareness of skin cancer and aging growing, how do you see this trend a ecting attitudes toward sun exposure? he glamorisation of sun tuning is particularly problematic for younger audiences. There seems to be a complacency around sun tanning, likely stemming from the misconception that its risks aren’t an immediate concern. Many incredible Australian sunscreen brands and influencers have worked tirelessly to shift cultural attitudes, and trends like this risk undoing that progress. What do you think about how TikTok’s trend might shift views on natural vs. artificial tans? I don’t think we’re there yet—it feels like there needs to be a broader shift from suntanning to sunless tanning. Whilst we would love for people to move towards natural over artificial, our main concern is discouraging potentially life-threatening sun behaviours. Hey Corbin, do you think the tan line trend sends the right message about skin safety, or does it encourage harmful sun exposure? Absolutely not. We
feel passionately about this—it’s undeniably sending the wrong message about skin safety and encouraging harmful (and potentially deadly) sun exposure. How can sunless tanning products like Three Warriors help people achieve the look of a tan without the health risks of sun exposure? We have a range of products designed to give a natural golden glow while actually taking care of your skin. It’s never been easier to self-tan at home—hybrid skincare X tan products like our Gradual Tan or the Radiance Complexion Serum seamlessly fit into beauty routines. What are the risks of using conventional tanning products compared to organic ones like Three Warriors? Conventional tanning products often contain synthetic chemicals, parabens, and artificial fragrances that may irritate the skin or disrupt hormonal balance. Organic options like Three Warriors are free from these additives, o ! ering a safer alternative that’s gentle on both the skin and the environment.

DATING ETIQUETTE 101
Can you feel it? The love in the air? It’s that time of year— flowers, chocolates, and, let’s be honest, a few bad dates.
If you’re lining up your evening plans for Valentine’s Day, here’s some advice from our team on what to avoid on a first date:
01. Don’t be late. Punctuality shows respect for her time and sets a good tone.
02. Drive her home but don’t ask to come in. Be considerate.
03. Order her a drink if you’re waiting at the bar. A thoughtful gesture that shows you care.
04. Don’t talk poorly about ex-partners or family members. Keep the conversation positive and avoid negativity.
05. Don’t plan your (or her) future over a 9am co ! ee. Keep things light early on.
06. Don’t brag about money and then ask to split the bill. Be genuine.
07. No mention of your ex, please. Definitely don’t focus on past relationships.
08. Stay o ! your phone. Give your date your full attention and be present.
09. Be nice to service sta !. How you treat others reflects on your character and respect.
10. Don’t talk about yourself the entire time. Share the conversation and ask questions too.
11. Two words: personal hygiene. Freshness is essential for a positive impression and feeling confident.

THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE
Style’s resident woo-woo girl and photographer, Caroline Attwood, swaps her Tarot for Chinese astrology to uncover what’s in store for each Zodiac sign in 2025. Under the influence of the observational and intuitive Snake, 2025 promises to be profoundly transformational for every sign, but with one caveat: be prepared and don’t be rash. Know when to strike.
WORDS CAROLINE ATTWOOD
SNAKE:
Happy birthday, Snake! This is your year. As such, the energy surrounding you is abundant, positive and supportive. The only watch-out for you is to maintain good boundaries. Everyone will want a piece of you.
RAT:
One of the luckiest signs for 2025, rats will enjoy a boost in wealth and fame this year. Focus on getting all your ducks in a row before you take that leap, though. Success will come to those who have laid the necessary foundations first.
OX:
You’re o ! on adventures this year, Ox! Travel – and relationships that are formed by it – will be key for you. A word of warning, though – be careful with your possessions.
TIGER:
Tiger, you’re not on the best terms with the Snake. This means it’s a tricky year for you. People won’t be who they seem, especially when it comes to personal relationships. Protect your energy.
Beyond the blueprint
Holly Stevens didn’t take the traditional route to become Project Design Manager at Kokoda Property—but let’s be honest, when does the best career path ever follow a straight line? With a background in fashion design, she first joined Kokoda in marketing, but her eye for aesthetics and big-picture thinking led her to carve out a role that fuses design, branding, and customer experiences.
The latest project? Kokoda House—an immersive display space that’s redefining how we experience property before it’s even built. Forget the typical showroom with static floor plans; this is a journey. Guests are taken through a hyper-detailed 3D model of the Teneri ! e Banks precinct, and then ushered into the Immersion Room, where interactive digital tech brings their future riverfront home to life.
“Purchasing property is not just a rational decision, it’s deeply emotional,” Holly explains. “We wanted our clients to truly connect with the vision we have for these projects.”
The result? A space where luxury is tangible, sustainability meets innovation, and every detail is designed to make you fall in love with the future.
Of course, pushing the envelope in design wasn’t without its challenges—namely transforming an old, rundown building into a state-of-theart experience. But instead of
fighting the quirks of the space, Holly and the team leaned in, preserving original brick walls and blending heritage with modern finishes. Sustainability was a priority, with locally sourced materials and energye cient designs leading the charge.
Holly stays ahead of the curve by travelling, absorbing global design trends, and keeping a close eye on innovation in everything from hospitality to tech. “Our team recently traveled to Bangkok to experience the flagship Kimpton Hotel to gain inspiration as we open our own Kimpton hotel on the Teneri ! e Banks site.”
So, what’s next? While she’s keeping tight-lipped about upcoming hospitality partnerships (watch this space), one thing’s for sure: Kokoda House and Teneri ! e Banks are setting a new standard for luxury living in Brisbane. Consider this your o cial invitation to experience it for yourself.
Incredible craftsmanship and timeless design, this armchair creates a visual and tactile experience that invites relaxation Name a better spot to unwind.

WITH KHRUANGBIN’S LAURA LEE OCHOA
WORDS NATALIE MCGOWAN
Laura and I are connecting from di ! erent time zones. I’m in my o ce in Brisbane on a warm Monday afternoon, while she’s speaking from her hotel room in Milan, early in the morning after a show. Despite the early wake-up, Laura is warm and engaging.
“Australia feels like home somehow, but so far away,” she tells me. “There’s something very Texas about Australia.”
Laura’s connection to Australia is evident, especially when she recalls her most memorable show here – Golden Plains in 2019. “When we played, everyone held up their boots. It was something that I’d never seen in my life,” she reminisces. The Victorian festival tradition – raising boots in appreciation of a set – earned Khruangbin the Golden Plains seal of approval. “I loved it,” she says.
A lot has happened since that gig. Khruangbin is now touring their fourth studio album, A LA SALA, and, outside of music, she’s embraced a new chapter: motherhood. “Everything has changed in the best way possible,” she says.
Adding to the whirlwind of milestones, the band has snagged their first-ever Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. “It was very, very unexpected,” Laura admits. “It felt like that was never gonna happen – not in a good way or bad way. It was just never one of our goals, necessarily, to win awards. And I think because it was never a specific goal, it feels really special. I’m still a bit shocked.”
I’m not. For those familiar with Khruangbin’s music, the Grammy nod comes as no surprise. It seems every detail – from the music itself to the album art – is meticulously curated and considered. Laura’s approach to her tour fashion is no exception.
“Our tour prior to this one had a very specific look and feel to it, and I think we all felt like we had outgrown that, at least for now,” she explains. This evolution saw Laura swapping her signature five-inch (minimum) heels for socks, and exchanging the feathers and sequins for denim and dresses. It’s a shift that aligns with A LA SALA’s central theme of home. For Laura, a Texas native, home often means jeans – specifically Levi’s, with whom she has collaborated to customdye her jeans to coordinate with the rest of her stage looks. “I have to plan about a tour ahead so I can send them all the colours I need and have them in time,” she says.
As for what tops the jeans, Laura’s tour wardrobe is an eclectic mix of vintage and designer pieces, including Self-Portrait, Ukrainian brand Paskal, and items from Poshmark and a vintage store in Salt Lake City she discovered years ago while on tour. “I just ransacked the place. I had, like, four trash bags of dresses,” she laughs.
With Khruangbin’s Brisbane show at Riverstage fast approaching, the anticipation is building to see her and the rest of the band’s electric style in action on Sunday, 2 March.

A FRENCH AFFAIR
WORDS BIANCA LICINA
Bubbling with French flair and oozing Parisian charm, Pompette Champagne Bar and Restaurant e ! ortlessly transports a slice of Paris to Brisbane in the Tassis Group’s latest venture.
When an invitation to sample Brisbane’s newest Champagne bar and restaurant landed in my inbox, I couldn’t RSVP ‘oui’ fast enough.
Pompette Champagne Bar and Restaurant, a jewel in The Star’s culinary crown, marries the elegance and sophistication of French cuisine with a modern twist – all the makings of a night to remember.
Arriving at Pompette, hand-in-hand with my partner, we were greeted by a lively buzz around the Champagne Bar. Though The Terrace showcases stunning city views, the al fresco dining space feels like a portal to Paris. The soft hum of conversation, the melodic clink of glasses, and caviar bumps being slurped set the tone for our French feast to come.
Pompette’s dimly lit, Art Deco-inspired interiors feature plush velvet booths and Champagne-themed artwork, creating a chic, romantic space perfect for a date night. To start, we toasted with glasses of Taittinger as we perused the menu, a homage to classic French fare with a modern edge. We chose a decidedly French feast: escargot and steak tartare to begin, followed by Duck à l’Orange and steak frites for mains, and, naturally, crème brûlée for dessert. Having recently returned from France,
our expectations were set high.
Every dish exceeded them. The escargot, bathed in garlicky, herbaceous butter, were indulgently delicious. The steak tartare was a masterclass in balance, delicate yet bold in flavour. For mains, the Duck à l’Orange was succulent and cooked to perfection, with a sauce so sublime we shamelessly mopped up every drop with our fingers. The steak frites were classic perfection, tender, and accompanied by golden, crisp fries. And as for the crème brûlée? The theatrical crack of the caramelised top gave way to a dreamy custard inside.
The impeccable food was matched by attentive, warm service that made the evening all the more memorable. We rounded o ! the night with another glass of Champagne at the al fresco bar, basking in the glow of a meal we knew we’d be talking about for weeks. By the time we left, we were already tirelessly recommending Pompette to our friends and family (just ask them).
Pompette doesn’t just deliver on the promise of French dining; it elevates it. Bon appétit indeed.

And with its panoramic spaces, expansive decks, and a whopping 4,000m ² of exterior glass for uninterrupted views, you’ll feel like you’re sailing on a private yacht.

So, where to first? The world is literally your oyster. Will you islandhop in the Caribbean, explore the icy landscapes of Antarctica, or discover the wildlife of the Galápagos Islands? Perhaps a journey through Africa, Alaska, or closer to home in Australia and New Zealand would be more your style? The only question is: where will your next adventure take you?
Unplug & escape
My fiancée and I found our perfect escape at Amaroo Escape, a serene, adults-only luxury eco glamping retreat nestled between the Gloucester and Barrington regions. For three peaceful days, we had no service — just the soothing sounds of nature, refreshing swims in the creek, and uninterrupted relaxation. Surrounded by 450 acres of farm and bushland, we immersed ourselves in the tranquil beauty of the Manning River. The idyllic spot to reset after a hectic year, reconnect with nature, and recharge for the year ahead. A laidback weekend getaway I can’t recommend enough.
