HOME GROWN HEART With Mother’s Day just around the corner and environmentalism taking centre-stage, there’s no better time to step back in gratitude of Mother Earth herself. WORDS BY JADE HORROBIN

RANT CLOTHING
PAGE 14
ach May, our letterboxes fill with catalogues advertising the perfect way to say thanks to Mum. So come Mother’s Day we try our best to show appreciation for all she does with flowers, gifts and Sunday brunch. Mother’s Day is an acknowledgment of the women who have nurtured us. It’s a resounding moment of gratitude for all the times she has picked you up from ballet, tied your shoes and hugged you as you cried. At a time when sustainability is at the forefront of global consciousness, Mother’s Day also presents a chance to give back to the mother of us all: Mother Earth. While overlooking your maternal caregiver completely in favour of a ‘thank you’ rain dance would make you a terrible person, there are countless ways to honour your mother and the planet synchronously. Both play vital roles in your life and will continue to do so for the entirety of your existence. Think of Mother Earth as a woman: she makes sure you’re fed APRIL 2018

and clothed, her beauty and kindness stoke you with an inextinguishable fire. There is a Native American proverb that says, “The earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth.” Aptly, my mother taught me that. Her love of nature and gentle heart had such an influence on me, not only as a child but in my adulthood too. This year, my mum won’t be receiving floral arrangements flown in from overseas or token presents shipped in non-recyclable packaging. I’ll be trading those in for something more sustainable. It’s tempting to be intimidated by the concept of sustainability, but it’s not an all or nothing deal. The seemingly inconsequential decisions we make on a daily basis can have the biggest impact long term. Giving the gift of simple pleasures is kind to the Earth and kind to her. Breakfast in bed, a reprise from daily duties and a little peace and quiet are likely what mum wants most. However, if you’re in the business of upstaging your sibling with gifts (guilty as charged), look to local small businesses for environmentally friendly goods to pop a pink bow on. Brisbane is home to a local business culture that’s almost inherently focused on sustainability, so the gift options really are endless. A planter box or bookshelf made using recycled timber from Gold Coast based business Knots & Grains coupled with a native plant from City Farm Nursery in Windsor is a gift mum will treasure for years to come. Alternatively, a set of bamboo sheets STYLEMAGAZINES.COM.AU

from YoHome, a one-of-a-kind ceramic coffee cup from Pottery for the Planet or a dress from waste-conscious fashion brand Rant will serve as a timeless reminder of how much you care. Honouring Mother Earth and celebrating your own mother is something that can–and should–go hand in hand. In the words of Emma Watson, it’s a simple “one-degree shift” that can have the most impactful change for Mother Earth. Start with Mother’s Day, then move on to tackling the rest. Our Mother Earth will thank you for it. READ MORE ONLINE

Just the beginning Sarah Timmerman was ahead of the game when she launched her online store, Beginning Boutique at just 21. Now in her tenth year of business, she has no plans of slowing down. WORDS TAMILLE HEAD
A
trip to Paris inspired Brisbane born Sarah Timmerman to bring the same shopping experience back home to Australia. Instead of building a bricks and mortar store to match the feel of the French boutiques, she instead launched Beginning Boutique, somewhat a first of its kind at the time. We chat to Sarah about what has made her continually successful over the last ten years. You’ve said that you’re not a ‘fashion girl’. How does someone who is not a ‘fashion girl’ build one of the country’s most successful online boutiques? Definitely a lot of hard work and perseverance. It’s not about having the best taste in fashion, it’s about taking care of customers at the end of the day. Did you ever imagine Beginning Boutique would be this successful ten years ago? Oh, 100 per cent. I imagined it bigger! You never start something thinking it will be a nothing—that’s Business 101. How have you seen the market change over the past decade? Lots more online stores available for customers, which means you have to work harder at finding your niche and always find ways of exciting your target market. There’s definitely room for everyone in the market, so finding what you’re good at and doing it well is the key. PAGE 16
SARAH TIMMERMAN
What’s the key to succeeding in business? 100 per cent: never giving up. Even when times are rough and you think you’ve hit rock bottom, there’s always that thought in the back of your mind saying don’t give up! It might sound cliché but you have to always believe in yourself above all. How important is social media to your business? Extremely! It’s the platform our customer interacts with us best on. We’re always finding new ways to make social interaction exciting. We are also very aware that it’s not everything—especially with the recent algorithm changes. You can’t solely rely
on one marketing platform to get your product out there, so you’ve got to be inventive. What’s in store for BB in the future? This is going to be a year to remember for Beginning Boutique. We’ve already had so many amazing things happen, and it’s only going to get better! Definitely more collaborations and activations, more international presence and more focus on our own collection is on the cards. How will you be celebrating your tenth year in business? With a massive bottle of champagne! I don’t celebrate much but this is a night to get the babysitter in! APRIL 2018
SEASONAL TASTE
Sensation
Think you know your Raclette from your Roquefort? Emmy-Lou McKean chats to Queensland’s cheese and platter styling experts about Autumn trends and tricks.
W
hen it comes to wowing guests at a dinner party, the secret ingredient is always cheese. Whether you’re having friends over or meeting the parents at their place, a cheese platter is always well received. When it comes to piecing together a cheese platter, there is no right or wrong way to go about the task, but according to Peter Gross, Queensland’s premier expert on all things cheese and founder of Black Pearl Epicure, as long as you love it, include it. While summer is for entertaining, in Autumn we begin to slow things down as we shift into the cooler months and this is the perfect time to strip back your usual cheese offering for the seasonal change.
PETER’S CHEESE TIPS @thebigcheese
“All over the world, Autumn has always been the best time of year to produce cheese as it is the time where the last flush of grass, the contented cows and the weary cheese maker combine to make the best possible cheese.” says Peter. When asked what the essentials for any cheese platter are, Peter explains that there is much debate on the subject as there is so much diversity when it comes to cheese. If building a cheese platter is unfamiliar territory, “just keep to the ones you love and you can make it the hero cheese on the platter. But it must be good and well aged.” “A really well-aged full wheel of d’Affinois that has virtually liquefied inside would be a great example of this,” he says.

Favourite cheese in cooler months? Marcel Petite Comte from France was made last Autumn and it’s now 12 months old and ready to eat. It has all the soft tones of late summer and is a firm cheese but has a sweet nutty complexity. This is one of my favourite cheeses in the world. What should we never see on a cheese platter? Apple should never be on a cheese platter. It is full of Malic Acid, as is your mouth and the tannins in red wine. The three paired together will make any wine a disaster. Also, dried apricots should never feature as a cheese accompaniment. Best cheese advice? When choosing a Brie or Camembert, look at the cut face. If it has a lot of holes in the middle, it isn’t ripe.

ot even a third of the way through the new year and we’ve already had our interest piqued for what is set to be Brisbane’s most culturally transformative year to date. Our radars have been dinging almost non-stop with exciting, enticing and innovative new developments. From world-class hotels to tri-level social hubs; we’re about to enter the big kid’s league. Just in case James Street wasn’t already one of Brisbane’s most enviable strips, the second-half of this year will see the opening of The Calile, a luxury hotel like the River City has never seen, complete with an on-site restaurant and full day spa. Come June, our very own W Brisbane will also be open for PAGE 18

business. Joining the ranks of Brisbane’s finest accommodation, this riverside heaven will be our first five star hotel. The W Brisbane is home to an incredible spa featuring relaxation pods and an exclusive cocktail deck—a staycay has never seemed more necessary. Brisbane’s hospitality scene isn’t resting on its laurels either. April will see the muchrumoured XCargo open its doors in Fortitude Valley. With a full kitchen, café, multiple bars and a rooftop balcony, the three levels of drinking and dining will be a grownup playground like no other. Come mid year, all eyes will be on Brisbane Quarter. Encompassing a complete city block right on the river, this development will feature two
levels of dining and drinking and completely change the game for inner-city date nights. Looking to 2019 and beyond, prepare for metamorphic changes to the Roma Street precinct. Scheduled concurrently with the Cross River Rail project is Brisbane Live. In our very own answer to Madison Square Garden, AEG Ogden has received bipartisan support for the epic 17,000 seat ultraentertainment precinct, which will sit right above the new Roma Street Station. Coupled with the rejigging of our metro transport system, there’s no question these projects will completely redefine our city on the global stage. Fasten those seat belts Brisbane, we’re in for one hell of a ride. APRIL 2018

VERA BLUE S
omewhere between auditioning for The Voice in 2013 and selling out her nation-wide ‘Private’ tour, Vera Blue became a shining light for young, female Australian artists. Maybe it’s because of her spine-tingling voice, or perhaps the way she dances like no-one is watching when on stage with Flume. Although both these things are undeniably true, I have an inkling that it’s much more than that. She’s unapologetically herself – both on and off the stage. With her 2017 album Perennial, Vera explored a unique kind of vulnerability about diving headfirst into writing her own heartbreak along with the behind-closed-doors moments and realisations that come afterwards. “Vulnerability is something that’s really in itself super powerful, yet it’s something that a lot of people struggle to come to terms with and feel comfortable with,” she said. Touring with the record and performing her tracks for live audiences has seen Vera come into her own and embrace the unique kind of strength that comes alongside vulnerability. “Through writing the more recent songs like Lady Powers, I’ve found this inner strength that I didn’t know I had,” she said. Building on this strength, Vera Blue has just announced her latest project that is due out in

The EP features a host of talented female producers, such as Alice Ivy and Kodie Shane, and Vera can’t get enough. “I really take my hat off to girls in the industry who can produce because it’s something that I’ve tried to do and it’s really hard. I’ll still give it a go of course, but there are lots of men that I’m surrounded by that are amazing at it and it’s really cool to see heaps of girls doing it too,” she said. “There are powerful things going on in society with women this year, and stuff that’s happened with me as well. I think we can all just relate to it more and more,” she said. Almost a year on from the release of Perennial, Vera knows that now is the right time for Lady Powers to make waves and hopes it will contribute to a global statement that won’t be ignored. MOTHER’S DAY—
Modern Mum For some new mums, fashion is at the bottom of their demanding list of priorities. But not for Ellen Robbins.
WORDS BY TAMILLE HEAD The Brisbane hairdresser launched her blog, The Stylist Mama in a bid to encourage fellow mothers to rediscover their style. We chat to mum-of-one about how style changes when you become a mum. Did you struggle with your style after having your daughter? Absolutely! Even before I had Sophie, my body was changing so much that dressing the bump was a struggle at times! The early days at home with a brand new baby are hard, because you have to be dressed but also accessible for feeding, but even finding clothes that fitted all my new curves was tricky too. How does your style shape your identity, and did you struggle with this after having a child? I think you can let it be a huge part of you, or a very little part, and I know so many people who are on either end. For me, style is so empowering and fun. I love being able to dress up and share different parts of my identity with different looks whether it’s something super casual, or something high fashion. I did struggle a little bit post baby, but once I decided to start fresh and just embrace whatever stage my body was at, it became so much more relaxed and easy to just get dressed

MEMORIES This Mother’s Day, think outside the box and treat Mum to a more personal gift.
B
eing a mum is unlike any other job in the world, and it’s a known fact that her job is never done. Her duty as a mother doesn’t stop once we’ve outgrown holding her hand or have moved out of the family home. No matter how old we get or how far apart we live, she’s the person who will always have loved you the longest. Think of all those years she drove you around to ballet recitals or basketball games; and later to friends’ parties or high school dances. Her whole world revolved around you. When it comes to Mother’s Day gifting, how do you thank her for all of those years and all the years to come? Personalised plates are the gift that’s uniquely hers, for years to come. Forget the chocolates and perfume this year and opt for a gift that’s a distinctive expression of her style and personality. Show her how much you care with a personalised gift that celebrates her uniqueness. Spoil her by repaying the favour and driving her around in luxury all weekend, courtesy of Brisbane Mini Garage and QT Gold Coast, and create new memories together. At PPQ, there’s a unique personalised plate to suit every mum. Use her name, nickname, your special code word, all her kids’ initials; whatever means the most to her and signifies your relationship with her. Whether she’s a die-hard Broncos fan, an animal lover or the type who would be suited to the fashionable European plate range, there’s a plate to suit her. That’s the beauty of personalised plates– they can be tailored to suit each individual, because we’re all unique. PERSONALISED PLATES QUEENSLAND LEVEL 1, 164 GREY ST, SOUTH BANK P 136 356 PPQ.COM.AU

It’s in the bag In a world of fast-fashion, this local label is stepping up and doing things differently. WORDS BY TAMILLE HEAD A quick holiday to Indonesia was all the inspiration that Maddison Castens needed to launch her now hugely-successful accessories line. While holidaying in Bali with her husband Matthew, the Gold Coast girl was drawn to the unique craftsmanship of the locals. After posting a few holiday photos to Instagram, one of the couple’s friends spotted some of their purchases and asked if they could bring a couple of items back for them. Ideas were thrown around and Surrender the Label was born a few weeks later. Each of the labels handcrafted pieces are items that reflect an adventurous and relaxed lifestyle while also enhancing the raw beauty that surrounds us. A collection of hand crafted items were sought out, aiming to inspire its owner to explore, enjoy and take hold of the memories that create a unique and unforgettable life experience. But the pair weren’t content with simply creating a product, instead
choosing to support the local suppliers at the same time. “We really liked the idea of a product that was crafted by the locals and the fact that each sale haelped give back to the community,” Maddison says. “Through Surrender the Label, we hope to share a lifestyle that we love and enjoy, but to also help others enjoy it along the way. We have been incredibly blessed with Surrender the Label and believe that we should be blessing others through what we do.” What initially started as a side project for the pair has grown to be positive influence throughout the world. And while their journey is only just getting started, it’s clear that we’ll be seeing big things from this local label. “We believe this world was carefully crafted by our creator and we want others to become more aware of the beauty that surrounds us. Our motivation comes from the idea that something small and simple can have a big impact on others and we hope that Surrender can make a difference through all that we do.”
WHO IS THE SURRENDER GIRL?
“She is bold and adventurous, yet graceful and nurturing. She is passionate and loves all things pure, she is not afraid to do what makes her happy. Inspired by the sea, sun and sand, she enjoys everyday as it comes and makes the most of life’s simple pleasures. She is always willing to surrender to the beauty around her.”

Discovering where creativity meets academia, Emma Regolini describes how she is exploring a new frontier of art. WORDS BY SIOBHAN TAYLOR

mma Regolini has a unique approach to her art. Derived from her academic pursuits and developed as a way to gather data on online behaviours, her story doesn’t follow the traditional roadmap many artists adopt. Interested in the way her studies could transect with art, Emma created her Instagram account @theline_ as a way to share her work while undertaking her Bachelor of Commerce. “I originally started @theline_ project as a means to gather data on the topic of millennial online behaviours. During my studies, I thought why not experiment merging my academic work with a creative execution and see where they intersect.” Prompted by developments in her academic studies, Emma came up with the foundation of PAGE 32

what would eventually become @theline_. “I wanted to experiment drawing over imagery that I find visually engaging to see if I could add another layer to it, to create a new or modified meaning or aesthetic.” When Emma started creating her pieces in 2016 she essentially started from scratch, with only a vision and a drawing tablet to get her started. “It was quite tough at first because I had to self-teach myself Photoshop and learn how lines and elements can change an image, so now I like to see how far I can push different aesthetics while still maintaining online engagement.” What started as a side project experimenting with the intersection of art and consumer behaviours, @theline_ is now so much more than this, having recently collaborated with the

Why get your jewellery valued?
Knowledge really is king
Frustrated by logins and passwords?
The first step to insuring your precious jewellery against loss and theft is to get an insurance replacement valuation. This value reflects what it would cost to replace the item ‘new for old’ or ‘like for like’. A valuation provides a comprehensive description of an item, which is very useful if there is a need to have a jewellery item remade. It’s also an important safeguard in dealing with the police or insurance company when jewellery is lost, stolen or damaged. A valuation certificate will provide proof of ownership in the happy event that the jewellery is recovered and ensure insurance companies will provide full compensation for a piece of jewellery. We recommend valuations are updated every two to three years. Price increases may mean that you are under-insured and that the item cannot be replaced for the old value. Price decreases may save you on excessive premiums from your insurer.
The craft of making a good coffee takes skill, knowledge, experience and perseverance. One avenue to upskill is to undertake coffee courses that are designed to help people unlock the mystery of the craft. Traditionally the craft of roasting was taught by the mentoring process, whereby the master roaster and the learner stood side-by-side; the elder and his student. The master roaster shared their knowledge and experience verbally, taking the learner through the process of roasting, cupping and sensory development. At Wolff College of Coffee, our highly skilled and industry recognized trainers and baristas can mentor you through a selection of coffee courses. Folks from all walks of life can learn espresso, latte art, roasting, cupping, sensory development and brewed coffee barista practices. If you are wanting to learn more about the humble bean why not enrol in a course?
Who isn’t frustrated by forgotten passwords and the problems that arise when one gets locked out of an account or resets a password? For those sharing an AppleID username and password, troubles will arise and more than likely arise sooner rather than later, usually at a very inconvenient time. That situation can be rectified so each person has their own AppleID but still has the ability to share purchases of music, books, movies, apps, etc, without having any text messages or FaceTime calls going to the wrong person. Apple’s Family Sharing option allows up to six users to share purchases. Meaning if one buys a movie or book etc, the other five members can have full access to the purchase. Dependent family members can be forced to ‘ask permission’ of the organiser before any items are approved to be purchased.

We caught up with one of the Sunshine State’s vino VIPs to see what’s next for Queensland wine. The Granite Belt is currently ranked number five in Australian wine regions, but they will be top of the list if Mike Hayes of Symphony Hill has anything to do with it. In 2017, Mike was named Australian Winemaker of the Year, the first Queenslander to be given this accolade. “I have been involved in the wine industry in one way or another for nearly forty years,” Mike told Style. STYLEMAGAZINES.COM.AU
“I love being a winemaker because you are looking at the whole process. Everyone talks a lot about winemakers, but the real hero is the vineyard. That is the real winemaker.” Just three hours from Brisbane, the Granite Belt is known for being an experimental and open-minded region; trialling emerging grape varieties and making small batches of intricately grown wines. “We steer away from the heavy alcohol levels of the jammy shiraz and the overly oaky chardonnays, instead experimenting with new and exciting varieties from Portugal, Russia and Georgia to name but a few.” The Granite Belt has an almost unique setting due to the altitude (600 – 1,000 metres) and soil composition. Made up of decomposed granite, volcanic rock and slate, the acidic soil allows the winemakers to produce wine with natural longevity. “The Granite Belt produces elegant,
balanced and delicate wines. Unlike other places in Queensland, we get four distinct seasons up here, which is a big part of it.” The region’s standout feature, Mike says, will be its resilience to climate change. Over the next century, coastal wine regions are due to see increasingly unstable weather and a rise in temperatures that won’t affect the Granite Belt quite as heavily. READ MORE ONLINE

INDEPENDENTSCHOOLS—
Dressing for the future At Mount Alvernia College, they realise that not everyone’s tastes are the same. In today’s world, many women embrace the wearing of pants on a regular basis. As Mount Alvernia College is an inclusive educational community, it seemed timely to include pants so as not to continue the stereotype of women only wearing dresses. “Initially I discussed the idea with one of the senior classes and mentioned the option at a Parents and Friends Executive Meeting. Both groups were supportive of looking at the option and so a committee was formed consisting of parents, current and past students, current staff, and past staff members,” Principal Kerrie Tuite says. “Young women at Mount Alvernia have always worn a dress or shirt and skirt for formal wear, with shorts and tracksuits for sporting activities. In 2010, the current dress and blazer option was developed, using similar committee structure. At this time, the College

was undergoing a rebranding and the new uniform was part of this.” In deciding on the pants and shirt formal uniform option, the committee took into account style, material, comfort, and whether the pants and shirt matched with other uniform items such as hat and blazer. There was also discussion on whether the current shoes would look appropriate with the pants. Once the uniform was decided, a mannequin, wearing the pants and shirt with blazer and hat, was placed in a window and students were encouraged to look and comment. This process took several meetings and spanned twelve months, so it was not a rushed process. The pants and shirt option will be available from the start of Term Two following the Easter break. Skin Needling 101
Dermatude Soft Radiance Enzymatic Peeling $65
Styler Kim Newland discovers if skin needling is as revolutionary as they say. Recently, a friend suggested I try skin needling as a way to target my rosacea and scars. For those not in the know, skin needling is a treatment combining micro-perforations in the skin and usually with advanced serums. Think Aesthetics is an industry leader in cosmetic tattooing and skin services and are the go-to experts for clients and practitioners alike. During my initial consultation, my specialist recommended the Dermatude program which is a series of Meta Therapy Facials. Each treatment is a luxury facial and an enzymatic peel followed by superficial micro
needling, which enables the active ingredients to go down into the dermal layers of the skin and to promote cell regeneration. If you’re nervous about needling, you needn’t be. The needling is only 10-minutes of the hour treatment and, while tingly, wasn’t painful or unbearable. While my skin is usually dehydrated and tired looking, I am already noticing dramatic differences. My skin is plump, my complexion is clearer and my skin feels tight and lifted. For everything you need

to clean them. Eyeshadow powder particles, normal airborne dust and pollens can weigh your lashes down causing them to droop or fall out. Lash cleansers are designed especially for this and is well worth the small cost. Don’t use regular eye makeup remover on your lash extensions as this will likely compromise the adhesive. Cotton pillowcases can grab at your lash extensions, especially if you’re a tummy or

Ask your therapist the right questions
Myth busting: venous ulcers
Most of my patients ask what is the best procedure or treatment to address skin ageing. My answer always varies, as it depends on many factors including the patient’s age, their current skin condition, and their expectations. Plus, factors such as downtime and medical conditions such as smoking and diabetes. I refer to skin texture as the palate of the skin. Skin texture can be simply defined as white, red or brown. Uneven texture often means uneven skin colouration. Skin texture can be improved by various procedures, depending on the nature of your skin texture. Simple treatments include BBL, IPL, V-beam vascular laser, and Q Switch laser for brown pigmentation. The laser that I use most is a combination of both BBL and Fraxel—a term we call Pulse Fraxel treatment. Most patients will require only one treatment depending on the severity of sun damage and textural changes.

As you can imagine having an open sore on your leg that is prone to weeping and bleeding can be a very painful and distressing condition to suffer from. It’s probably something you associate with older people. However, it’s not uncommon for us to see patients presenting with ulcers in their late 20s and early 30s. Venous ulcers are a complication of untreated varicose veins. Varicose veins can be visible or hidden below the skin but many patients suffer from tell-tale itchy, restless legs or ‘burning’ feet. The failing veins pool blood leading to chronic inflammation of the skin and surrounding tissue, eventually breaking down and resulting in an ulcer. The good news is venous ulcers are completely treatable by a phlebologist. Once the feeder veins are eliminated and the wound is correctly dressed, improvements can be seen in a few weeks and in most cases the ulcer has healed in a matter of months.

RELATIONSHIP ADVICE with Paul Baker
Having a bold conversation
Are your teeth dissolving?
The importance of relationship goals
It’s tough addressing difficult situations where another person’s attitude, behaviour, or performance is concerned. People dislike confrontation because it can become ugly. However, being able to confront and overcome challenges enables an exploration of what’s really going on, and leads to greater learning and more productive relationships. To ensure a respectful, effective conversation occurs, consider these steps: • Name and clarify the pressing issue. • Identify specific examples to illustrate the situation you want to change. • Describe your emotions about the issue. • Confirm that what is at stake is significant. • Identify your contribution to the problem. • State your need to resolve the issue. • Together discuss: What have we learned? Where are we now? What’s been left unsaid? • Describe the ideal outcome, negotiate a plan, and commit to taking action.
Throughout the day the mouth moves in and out of an acidic environment because of the different foods that we eat. Some foods are more acidic than others, with soft drinks, fruit juice and sports drinks being major culprits. Water, fortunately, is neutral. Most often we think about the acid we put in our mouth but there is also acid that comes from within the body such as vomiting and gastric reflux. Some people are not aware they have gastric reflux because it may only occur at night when they are asleep. This form of gastric reflux is highly associated with obstructive sleep apnoea. A collapsing airway can lead to the stomach contents being drawn into the mouth where it pools and dissolves the back teeth. This can lead to the need for extensive dental intervention and put your life at risk due to the collapsing airway. Protecting your teeth and airway is a high priority at James Street Dentists.
Recently, one of the big four banks was asking their customers a question. A question about what they really wanted. The best relationships also ask these questions. So, what do you want from your relationship? What are the goals and how do you achieve them? The first question to ask yourself is ‘what type of relationship do I want to create?’. The second is, ‘what kind of partner do you want to be?’. No relationship is one-sided and it takes two to make it happen. Therefore, you have responsibilities. Ask yourself what you could do more of, or in fact less of, to create a better relationship. Is there something you could start doing that would mean a lot to your partner and help achieve your relationship goals? This is an exercise in self-awareness and self-examination so don’t take it lightly and be prepared to be challenged. Good luck!

Thinking ahead Before you take your first steps into married life, ensure you put your best legs forward.
I
f you are planning a walk down the aisle anytime soon you might want to spare a thought for your legs. Even if your gown is going to be floor length you might not want those unsightly veins forever captured in your honeymoon album. The good news is that you don’t need a hospital stay because even the most severe varicose veins can be treated non-surgically. However, you still need to factor treatment time into your wedding planning list. Most patients require multiple sessions and treatments are 4-6 weeks apart, which means you might be looking at achieving results five months from your initial consultation. “We like to review patients once they complete treatment and before they go on any long-haul flights,” Dr Kemp from The Leg Vein Doctor says.
imagine
Unfortunately, venous disease can be hereditary, so you might be needing to bring the mother of the bride along with you. It’s not uncommon for mothers and daughters to have concurrent appointments. If it isn’t your legs you are concerned about, you might need to use the wedding as an excuse to get your hubby-to-be to pay attention to himself before his veins worsen. A large number of males have bookings made by their better halves after years of putting up with complaints about the pain. “If you have left it too late to start treatment don’t despair, we can recommend spray tan for the special day. Our advice, however, would be if you really are concerned to come in before you plan to start a family.” THE LEG VEIN DOCTOR 465 MILTON RD, AUCHENFLOWER P 3720 9912 THELEGVEINDOCTOR.COM
