On a sun-drenched Friday in Brisbane, a gang of eight creatives gathered at Brisbane Racing Club for our May cover shoot. The jockey’s lounge transformed into a glam zone — with red lipstick (courtesy of the always-vibey Penny Antuar), slick sticks, garment bags, and accessories galore. Piling into the golf buggy, we had special access to the in-field stabling and training facility at Eagle Farm, as well as the holding stables and the iconic grandstand. On our mission to capture the anticipation ahead of the racing season, our cover girl, Tippah shone in designer threads curated by Harriet and the team at Camargue.

Hello!
Ah May! The temp drops, sleep comes easy and we can finally start layering up those jackets and coats we ‘invested’ in.
Cool weather fashion and outings are on all our lips at Style and this months’ mag combines all of the things and places we’re loving. Kicking off with our cover, we’re thrilled to feature the captivating Tippah Dwan – Brisbane Racing Club Ambassador and Queensland Firebirds netball player. Tippah exudes statuesque elegance, showcasing the season’s newest fashion trends with our unique twist on racewear at Eagle Farm Racecourse (a big thanks to Anderson Racing for the use of their stables).
We also headed to Noosa to explore the stunning
home of local model Bree McCann and husband, Mitch. We caught up with the uber-cool owners of Locale Ristorante, Amanda and Rio Capurso, and Penny Lane from Alterior Motif shares her favourite Noosa hangouts, plus so much more.
Closer to home, we invited the fashion pack from Brisbane Fashion Festival into Style HQ for a fashion shoot (about time they were all on the other side of the camera!) to divulge what really happens backstage at a fashion event.
Plus, we bring you the latest trends in fashion and beauty, along with our top recommendations for where to eat, play, and stay. It’s all here in Style, so rug up, grab and cuppa (or vino) and enjoy!

Whether you’re saying ‘thanks a bunch’ or ‘just because’, the language of flowers is universal and one Bec Thomas speaks fluently. It’s also the roots of her beloved business – Farmgate Flowers Direct – which has seen many locals start their Saturdays in the early morning hours, as they head to New Farm’s Jan Powers Markets to pick up her beautiful blooms straight from flower farmers. And in good news for flower lovers (and those who like to sleep in), you can now follow that sweet scent to Farmgate Flower Direct’s first permanent location!
Tucked inside the leafy Cat & Fiddle Marketplace of Toowong, Farmgate’s new home offers fresh flowers direct from the farm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday. “It was November last year when a few stars aligned, which made us think about taking the leap,” Bec says. “We needed a new space, we wanted a permanent location, and we wanted to make it easier for our customers to buy beyond Saturday. This opportunity at the Cat & Fiddle
Marketplace came up at the perfect time – from the first day we visited this centre, we were warmly welcomed!”
Having grown up on a flower farm back in Tasmania, Bec left a 20-year career in the corporate world close to five years ago, after reading about the increase of cheap imports and its impact on the livelihood of Aussie flower farmers. “I wanted people to experience the joy of what I grew up with: amazing freshness, exceptional vase life, and exquisite varieties.” Through Farmgate, Bec and her team connect their customers with some of the finest growers in the country, with the Toowong store also offering home delivery in beautiful gift boxes to continue spreading the love.
“I love what flowers do for us,” she says. “There is this innate love for nature that we all have, and I love the emotions that flowers stir in each of us. When we have flowers in our homes, it’s food for the soul and really does make a difference to our wellbeing.”
Family owned and locally loved, you’ll find over 600 wines from Australia and beyond, as well as an extensive craft beer and spirit selection in this charming store. With new sips to savour arriving every day, Embassy Cellars’ unique offering means there’s something for everyone to enjoy – no matter your palate or preferences.

Hailing from the maternal line of Wulli Wulli, Auburn Hawkwood people, proud Aboriginal woman Arabella Walker is a force to be reckoned with in the contemporary art space. Utilising a variety of disciplines including acrylic, video, and installations, she is able to communicate profound cultural intent in ways that words cannot. Her work is inherently spiritual, with a focus on the challenges faced as an Aboriginal woman living in the Colony; and her pieces thoughtfully highlight cultural protocols, connections, and tradition through vibrant colour and distinctive mark-making.

Emma Hollingsworth, a Kaanju/ Kuku Ya’u/ Girrimary woman who grew up in tropical FNQ, always knew that art was her calling. Currently working out of her studio in Meanjin, Emma paints intuitively with bright, vibrant colours to express her heritage, culture, personal story and youthfulness. In her contemporary pieces, Emma paints the Land, waterways, animals, the peoples and her traditions, expressing their intrinsic connection. At only 20 years of age, Emma’s work was featured in the Queensland Museum which thrust her forth as an Indigenous artist.

“I BEGAN MAKING THINGS I WANTED IN MY OWN HOME FOR MYSELF.”
At 23, Ghana-born, Brissy local, Yaw (aka Yb.) is making a name for himself as an emerging artist to watch with his genre-blending sound.
Describe your work in three words Alternative, individual, purposeful. What inspires you I have been heavily inspired by many different artists across so many different genres. I am also heavily inspired by the concept of loss. Music recommendations If I Am Only My Thoughts by Loving, I Don’t Wanna Lose by Kate Bollinger, and Want U Back by Spencer were the three albums that were in heavy rotation for me when I was trying to get my foot in the door. Any projects coming up There are some fun singles coming soon! So stay tuned.
Alexandria Degoey Founder | Maker at Degoey Planet
Alexandria Degoey explores the weird, wonderful, and whacky through her clay sculptures and objects.
Describe your work in three words Playful, nostalgic, heirlooms.
What inspires you A mix of surrealism, vintage art deco, and maximalism. Why clay I fell in love with clay as a malleable material to interpret my imaginative concepts into three-dimensional and tangible forms. Any projects coming up I’m currently working on a new release of wares, as well as a few lighting pieces, which is a whole new and exciting challenge.

MEET THE FASHION PACK – THE FORCE BEHIND THE BRISBANE FASHION FESTIVAL (WELL SOME OF THEM). THEY’RE GEARING UP FOR THE 17TH YEAR OF BOLD, UNEXPECTED, AND DOWNRIGHT INNOVATIVE FASHION. SO, WE THINK IT’S ABOUT TIME TO TAKE A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE ALL THE BEHIND-THE-SCENES WORK THAT GOES INTO BRISBANE’S PREMIER FASHION EVENT. COME FOLLOW US BACKSTAGE.
WORDS TEAGAN WITHEROWSTYLING DIRECTOR
AKA THE STYLE EXPERT
Kimberly’s role is all about handpicking a mix of designers and retailers to participate in the festival – all of which must complement each other. Once all the brands are locked in, Kimberley will liaise with each designer to make sure the styling is on-trend and the looks will work well with the set hair and makeup. Kimberly also organises the model order and backstage logistics where timing is everything! On event days, she can be found managing a bustling team of some 20 models, 30 dressers, and over 12 designers.
PRODUCTION MANAGER
AKA THE JACK OF ALL TRADES
As the production manager, most of Bernadette’s responsibilities revolve around music and timing –pinpointing the ‘sweet spots’ for those picture-perfect moments and delivering those last-minute pep talks to the models before they strut their stuff. Those who have seen Bernadette in action know she brings calm to the chaos.

LOUNGE HOSTESS AND STYLING
COORDINATOR
AKA THE HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTEST
Picture Lulu as both Emily One and Emily Two from Devils Wear Prada, personally greeting socialites and high-profile attendees by name. Lulu creates that VIP experience alongside Bryce at the festivals’ reception. Then at the end of the show, she will deal with over 160 outfits that need to be sorted and carefully collated to ensure there’s no damage.
AICHA ROBERTSON
STYLING MANAGER
AKA THE EYE FOR DETAIL
As the styling manager, Aicha is like a product technician only instead of in an office, you’ll find her backstage at the festival. With a keen eye for detail, Aicha ensures every zipper zips and every button is secured. She’s the go-to person for Kimberley, bridging the gap between vision and execution, making sure each model is runway-ready from head to toe. Aicha will listen to Kimberley and convey any changes or challenges to the dressing team before the model steps forward to enter the line-up.
RICHARD SMITH
OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER
AKA THE GO-TO SNAPPER
As the official photographer for Brisbane Fashion Festival, you’ll likely find Richard behind the lens capturing special behindthe-scenes moments, intricate details of the garments and accessories, and models striking poses. Before the show begins Richard is backstage, immersed in the buzzing atmosphere, ensuring all equipment functions perfectly and coordinating with his team about positioning and coverage plans.
VOLUNTEER MANAGER
AKA THE ALL-ROUND GURU
Christabella is the heart and soul of the volunteer army. Come July, she oversees hundreds of applications, assigning roles based on preferences and needs – whether that be front of house, driving, back of house dressing or assisting with logistics. Christabella will then assist with the seating and ticketing come show night.
FESTIVAL DIRECTOR
AKA THE BOSS
As the festival director, Lindsay keeps all the balls in the air – from securing financials to wrangling in-kind partners, Lindsay’s role certainly goes beyond the glitz and glamour of the runway. With the Australian fashion industry churning out a whopping $27.2 billion annually and employing hundreds of thousands of people, Lindsay knows that the festival isn’t just about fashion – it’s vital for the city’s cultural and economic scene. But when the lights dim and the show begins, fashion becomes number one. You’ll find Lindsay tucked away with the technical production team with a detailed runlist in hand ensuring nothing is left to chance.
ADMINISTRATION DIRECTOR
AKA THE EYES AND EARS
Bryce may be the administration director, but his role extends far beyond crunching the numbers. From running socials to charming designers, Bryce is the backbone of the operation, making sure the festival runs like a well-oiled machine. When the show commences Bryce manages the 700-strong audience and media pit with upwards of 20 eager snappers (talk about thriving well under pressure).
Paris? Non. New York? Nope. Perched happily above the buzz of Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall, Kelly Woodcroft is deadset living her rock ‘n’ roll jeweller dream. Stepping into her tiny atelier with its pink velvet couch, quirky wallpaper, and French doors opening to charming balconies, her workroom would be right at home in any fashion capital of the world. The space reflects Kelly’s aesthetic – welcoming and colourful – and embodies the fusion of her pragmatic ex-banking nous with her undeniable creativity.
A qualified jeweller, Kelly is all about creating unique handcrafted designs and she certainly has a knack for the unexpected. During our visit, she proudly showed off two specially designed pieces she hoped to send to Pink during her recent Australian tour. Kelly even considered flying up to her hometown of Cairns when Pink was in town to present her with the welcome gift. It didn’t come together, but she hasn’t given up on her plan. “I’ll get these to her one day, someway,” she says. We agree. These bold bespoke babies absolutely must adorn Pink.
Sporting a voluminous blue skirt, a Ganni tee, and metallic pink cowboy boots that she ‘found in Amsterdam’, Kelly also exudes rock-chick vibes. Of the eye-catching
TRACY SINCLAIRboots, “They’re a bit scuffed, but hey, adds character, right? I love them,” she grins. It’s this blend of style and down-toearth coolness that also defines her creations.
In Kelly’s world, she covets stunning gems and adores contemporary design. She has a penchant for lightning bolts and stars — shapes that are bold, attention-grabbing, and undeniably chic. She’s also incredibly instinctive. “I design for me,” she says, pointing to a pair of highly polished star earrings. “I was planning an outfit and it felt drab, so I created these to add an edge to my look.” And as fate would have it, compliments and inquiries about her designs follow wherever she goes.
Situated above Louis Vuitton, Kelly’s studio reflects her essence. “The stars aligned,” she says of securing the spot. “Being able to look out from my French doors and feel connected to the hustle and bustle below, it’s perfect.”
As Kelly’s brand continues to soar, it’s not hard to imagine a future where folks give directions like, “just head towards Kelly Woodcroft, we’re located right underneath.” We share a laugh – after all, who wouldn’t want to be the luxury luggage store beneath the jeweller-to-the-stars?
Hailing from NYC, Heaven Mayhem creates vintage archiveinspired pieces that tell their own story. Effortlessly elevate any outfit with their statement accessories.
It’s official: capri pants are making a fierce return. Offering a cooler alternative to full-length trousers, these mid-length marvels are here to stay, whether you’re ready or not.
Revived from deadstock materials, Dylan Lex’s eccentric layered necklaces adorn celebrities and add instant flair to your wardrobe.

Fashion and functionality are often at odds – beauty is pain, right? Wrong! Enter utility fashion.
Clothing once designed for unglamorous jobs has now been deemed trendy by cool girls and guys and this season, we’re putting the look to work. Nestled within Brisbane’s award-winning The Calile Hotel in Fortitude Valley lies Kailo Wellness Medispa, an oasis of tranquility where time seems to pause. My journey through their renowned HERO14 Peptide Facial was an experience beyond mere pampering, it was also rejuvenating.
Entering the spa, I admit, I was frazzled, questioning whether a 90-minute indulgent lie down was justified. Yet, as I settled onto the treatment bed, skin therapist Catherine’s reassuring voice washed over me, urging me to relinquish control and relax. This was my sign, “Girl, you need to chill.” And boy, did my face (and body) love me for it.
The treatment started with Catherine placing a smooth rose quartz crystal on my sternum. Rose quartz for anyone like me who has no clue, is known by some to support emotional healing, inspire compassion, and boost feelings of peace and calm.
The HERO14 Peptide Facial seamlessly blended luxury
with efficacy. Beginning with a thorough cleansing to prepare the canvas, the star of the show, peptides, took centre stage. Renowned for stimulating collagen production, they worked their magic, promising firmer, more youthful skin.
But it wasn’t just about science; it was about indulgence. Botanical extracts, carefully chosen for their rejuvenating properties, joined the party, from soothing chamomile to hydrating hyaluronic acid. As gentle massage techniques enhanced relaxation and promoted circulation, I drifted into bliss, (read: I dozed, and probably snored), cocooned in a symphony of scents and sensations.
In what felt like the blink of an eye, awoken by Catherine, her soothing voice shared a lovely affirmation which completely gave me all the feels of gratitude and weightlessness. Coupled with the parting gift of the crystal, the experience transcended mere skincare – it was an immersion into holistic wellbeing.

Experts in all things skin, Sage + Stone Beauty Boutique, takes a results-driven approach to their treatments paired with a luxurious experience so you can achieve your dream complexion.
WORDS BIANCA LICINAWhen it comes to skincare, I plead guilty to doing the least. Apart from a morning and night cleanse and moisturise, it doesn’t get any more creative than that! However, given my line of work, I will admit that I do get FOMO when new products, treatments, and trends come across my desk... So, this year, I decided to embark on a (very delayed) New Year’s resolution of investing more in my skin – and paying a visit to Sage + Stone Beauty Boutique seemed like the best place to start.
A feminine and welcoming sanctuary situated in East Brisbane, Sage + Stone is a beauty salon specialising in all things skin health. Founded and operated by highly qualified (and all-round lovely gal) Sarah Pollard, she has 23 years of experience as an RN and seven years as a beautician putting every client at ease in her care.
After a thorough consult and discussion about my goals (being radiant and glowy skin), Sarah recommended her Bio Nutri Glow Facial. This facial is an NCTF treatment (New Cellular Treatment Factor) that fulfils all skincare dreams –
brightening, hydrating, improving skin quality, and reducing fine lines in one fell swoop. A form of skin needling, the treatment aims to nourish the skin leaving it plump, hydrated, and radiant with the essential ingredients stimulating collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production.
The hour-long treatment began with a pen-like instrument brushed over my face in conjunction with the serum. The prickly sensation was slightly uncomfortable but made much more bearable with a soothing cooling mask and LED light to complete the treatment.
Immediately after, I was less red than expected with only a little warmth in my face. Over the next three days, my skin felt a little tender and was slightly dry and rough to the touch. However, after four days, the dryness receded leaving my skin super soft and my complexion was noticeably more even – success! As for the clinic, Sarah’s friendly disposition and welcoming environment made the experience all the more enjoyable.

AN 80S BEACH SHACK REVIVAL FEATURING INTERIORS INSPIRED BY TRAVELS TO MEXICO AND KENYA.
When you think of a quintessentially Noosa home, you may think of modern facades, Hampton interiors, and coastal views – and you wouldn’t be wrong – unless you’re talking about model, mama, and brand founder, Bree McCann’s home.
Tucked away on the edge of the Noosa National Park, this unapologetically gorgeous home bears the authenticity of its weatherboarded beach shack beginnings with a touch of international charm.
Described by Bree as a “beachside oasis” this home is the ultimate labour of love.
Having spent the last few years renovating the space with her husband (and builder) Mitch McCann, the couple have lived and breathed every inch of the renovation – and the striking final result made it all worthwhile.
The pair did just about everything together. “Although I have to admit I haven’t picked up any tools, Mitch and I have designed and planned everything from the tiled travertine bath and timber deck chairs to the tapware, colours, and cabinetry.”
Keeping most of the original floorplan from the ground level, they then extended out and up.
The overall aesthetic of the house is largely inspired by two far flung corners of the world – Baja, Mexico and Lamu, Kenya.
A tour through and you’ll notice the Swahili and Mexican touches at every glance, all inspired by landscapes, architecture, and culture.
“There’s a certain laidback simplicity that we both love,” says Bree.
Bree’s favourite part of the home is the stunning master bedroom boasting an in-built bed that Mitch rendered. The space was designed to open onto a huge roof deck that looks out to the palms, and it’s truly breathtaking.
Step outside, and you’ll enter Mitch’s favourite area – the outdoor space. Often spending his time swimming with their son Mars, working in the front yard, and sitting by the fire on the roof deck come evening.
“I really believe that your home and the energy you bring to it sets the tone for your life and in many ways also your happiness,” says Bree.
This couldn’t be truer when it comes to Bree’s home – in every corner there is a sense of harmony and joy, reflecting not only the beautiful space but a deeply fulfilling way of life.
Cities don’t simply appear overnight; they’re built through considered collaboration, meticulous execution, and a bold vision to revolutionise the human experience. And that’s Clare Sowden’s specialty.
With multi-billion dollar projects to her name, Clare’s touch has resulted in landmarks of the community that have not only formed the daily basis for many, but transformed entire cityscapes. In 2018, the Australian Financial Review named her one of Australia’s Most Influential Women and she was also named one of the top 40 people in real estate under 40 by the Washington-based Urban Land Magazine. Making waves on a global scale is nothing short of a life accomplishment but, as managing director of Precinct Partners, Clare is only getting started.
Calling on the best cities from around the world like Paris’ tree-lined boulevards and New York’s concrete jungle, Clare works with both the government and private sector to develop game-changing metropolitan areas. “The boldness of creating a vision and executing on this is part and parcel of what we do,” Clare said. “We work to bring precincts to life with vision and impact.”
From upgrading one of Sydney’s busiest train stations while it was still in use to redeveloping the surrounding land into an integrated cultural, housing, and business hub, Precinct Partners collaborate with a myriad of diverse stakeholders
CLARE SOWDEN MANAGING DIRECTORto actualise people’s dreams, private interests, public good and economic growth. “It seems simple, but the key to great precincts and cities is streets that work for people,” Clare said. “The nature of multi-billion dollar projects is that you can plan for and control what you can, but you have to face every day like a marathon, keeping the pace, delivering on what you promised, and keeping an eye on the vision while delivering consistently over many years.”
And now, ahead of the 2032 Olympics, Clare is committed to showcasing Brisbane as one of the most liveable and prosperous cities on the world stage. From social and affordable housing to innovative parks and public spaces, Clare and her team are building a legacy with impact for generations to come. “It’s rare to live in a city during times of momentous possibility, and now is one of those periods in Brisbane’s history – where the excitement and legacy of the Olympics is driving investment and the world’s focus onto us,” she said. “While it’s a great Aussie trait that we’re humble people, it’ll pay dividends in the long run to remove the shackles and truly leverage this immense opportunity.”
Inspired by Milanese interiors, maximalism is the latest trend sweeping the interiors world. Think opulent gold accents, luxurious Italian-style furniture, and a bold mix of eclectic pieces spanning across eras. A nod to the recent Milan Design Week where contrasting textures collided, you can forget restraint because this style is all about indulgence. Milanese maximalism invites you to revel in the extravagant and create spaces that exude luxury and enduring style.

As a photographer, I’ve been fortunate to explore so much of Australia, but K’Gari’s untamed allure was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. There’s nothing like a trip to the largest sand island in the world to really put your place in the world into perspective…
Our journey kicked off at Kingfisher Bay’s mainland reception in River Heads (just south of Hervey Bay) on a crisp Saturday morning where we hopped on a bus bound for the barge. As we crossed the Great Sandy Strait for a seamless thirty-minute ferry ride, the anticipation built as the picturesque island grew closer – we were itching to explore and get amongst it!
The island welcomed us with open arms and after a quick buggy ride to our eco-cabin, we were ready to dive into the island’s offerings – starting with a beautiful wine dinner at the Wongari Den. After the kind of peaceful rest that only the magic of island life can offer, we headed off to explore the island, accompanied in part by a mother dingo and her pups; thin, but
resilient, I remember thinking that they truly epitomised the wild spirit of this sacred land.
Our first stop on the Beauty Spots tour the following morning was the SS Maheno shipwreck which stood as a rusty relic against the backdrop of sea and sky – a haunting reminder of the island’s history. Next was The Pinnacles – a place where it seemed that nature’s paintbrush had created a vibrant canvas of coloured sands. Eli Creek offered a refreshing respite, with its crystal-clear waters inviting us to a dip amidst the rainforest scenery.
As the sun dipped low, we gathered at the Sunset Bar to raise a glass to our adventure. The next morning as we bid farewell to K’Gari, it was with a sense of gratitude for the memories made and the stories captured.
In the heart of K’Gari, amidst its unfiltered beauty and rugged charm, I found a slice of paradise – a reminder of the simple joys that await those willing to wander off the beaten path.

Did you know that winter is the best time of year to have your leg veins treated in Brisbane? This fact is a closely guarded secret by many of our loyal cosmetic patients, who always choose to commence their new treatment plans in May. Why? There are actually a few reasons behind this sneaky forward planning
Almost all vein treatments require compression stockings, which aid recovery and have been shown to give visibly better results. The downside is they are not that nice to wear – especially in 34 degree heat! In winter, however, they’re much more comfortable and double as cosy leg warmers.
Another benefit of the cooler months is that you can hide your legs. Modern vein procedures do not use stitches or bandaging, however you can expect some bruising which may take a few weeks to heal. Pulling on those trousers means that no one ever needs to see that progress.
Treating veins is not a quick process – most patients require multiple sessions to address their concerns. For optimal success, appointments are made six weeks apart with a review before being discharged. The whole process can take 6-12 months depending on severity. Therefore, if you want summer-ready legs, you need to book in today!
We utilise many search tools to ensure a property has no hidden nasties waiting to be uncovered in years to come. Whilst we have access to many paid tools, there are free searches you can do to avoid making these mistakes yourself.
Flood mapping: most councils offer comprehensive flood mapping reports, and an address search will outline any potential flooding risks.
Dial Before You Dig: thinking of installing a pool or granny flat? Make sure you check on DBYD for any ‘no build’ zones on the block.
QPS crime maps: buying in a new area? QPS’ online crime maps will highlight any hot spots to avoid.
Domain building profiles: particularly useful for units or townhouses, you can check the sold price of other properties in the complex and what they’re renting for.
Council development approvals: use DAs to discover what may be built near the property. You can also speak directly to a town planner.
You can’t guarantee you’ll uncover every potential issue with a property, but doing your due diligence with these free tools combined with paid searches such as building and pest inspections will ensure you’re much more prepared for whatever lies ahead.
Grow your business
As a business owner, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of marketing jargon hurled at you every day. Whether it’s ROI, SEO, PPC or CTR, you can start drowning in three-letter acronyms when all you really want to do is focus on growing your business and improving your products.
However, one important term to familiarise yourself with is ‘performance marketing’, which involves running campaigns where you pay an advertising platform every time someone performs a relevant action such as purchasing a product through your website or signing up for your email database.
Performance marketing takes the guesswork out of marketing, letting you directly track revenue generated by your efforts and constantly hone in on your ideal target audience with detailed demographic information. A skilled performance marketer can use platforms like Google, Meta and LinkedIn to turbocharge your sales and even remarket your products to people who have taken specific actions like adding a product into their cart or interacting with your social media content.
Whether you need e-commerce sales, property leads or in-store visits, get in touch with Style Media today to chat about how performance marketing can take your business to the next level.
