Expert tips to brighten your space for spring summer
Hi, I am Rebecca White, the Resident Interior Stylist at Nunawading Homemaker HQ. I specialise in residential styling and property staging.
As spring approaches, the weather finally starts to warm up and we see lighter and longer daylight hours. Most of us love the newfound vitamin D, and also naturally want to lighten up our homes. Here are some of my tips on how to achieve this. Add a mirror to your space. Mirrors reflect light and automatically add lightness by bouncing sunbeams off reflective surfaces, which will double the amount of light in the room. Do not limit yourself to wall-hung mirrors, especially if you are renting as mirrors are heavy to hang. Add a beautiful arch fulllength mirror by leaning it against the wall.
Switch over darker tones for neutrals. This can be done in your soft furnishings such as quilt covers, cushions, blankets, and throws. This can also be achieved by adding lighter and brighter coloured artwork on the walls.
Add a light or bright-coloured rug. Rugs ground a space and are artwork for the floor. The bigger the rug the better!
Dress your windows with ceiling-to-floor sheer curtains. Not only do sheer curtains add softness and sophistication to a space, but when choosing a white, off-white, or beige tone, these add an amazing amount of lightness to a space.
Add lights. I often see no bedside lamps in bedrooms (for me a huge no-no), add bedside lamps with lightcoloured shades. In addition, floor lamps in corner spaces of living and lounge rooms add not only lightness but also welcoming and cosy vibes!
Inspired by renovated factories and manufacturing plants, the industrial look is cool and sleek when done correctly. This trend blends practicality and minimalism by showcasing exposed raw materials, a restrained colour palette, and purposeful details.

GRAPEFRUIT REFRESHER
INGREDIENTS
• 2 cups freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
• 1/4 cup fresh rosemary leaves
• 1 cup sparkling water
• 2 tablespoons honey
• Ice cubes
• Sliced grapefruit and rosemary for garnish
METHOD
1. In a large pitcher, muddle the rosemary leaves with the grapefruit juice until the leaves are wellbruised and the mixture is fragrant.
2. Strain the mixture into a large bowl or individual glasses to remove the rosemary leaves.
3. Add the sparkling water and stir well.
4. Add honey to taste and stir until dissolved.
5. Fill glasses with ice and pour the grapefruit refresher over the ice.
6. Garnish with sliced grapefruit and rosemary leaves.
