We sat down with Burleigh local Alicia Curtis, the DIY styling extraodinaire from My Burleigh Reno to talk all things decor. A Gold Coast mum and Burleigh Heads local, Alicia Curtis has been wowing the internet with her inventive home decor hacks and interior styling tips. And with approximately 48.2k followers on her Instagram (@my.burleigh.reno) we wanted to find out about the interior trends she's loving right now. Her beautiful home was also the setting for our summer fashion shoot!
Where do you draw your inspiration from when decorating a space? I would normally say browsing Instagram or Pinterest but these days I am finding myself browsing all the local homewares shops like Loot Homewares and Unik Home. We are so spoilt for choice in Burleigh Heads and neighbouring suburbs, with beautiful locally handcrafted items along with gorgeous imported pieces. What are your favourite colours and textures to work with? I'm all about earthy, neutral tones at the moment, especially textured throw rugs, cushions and wall hangings. I like to add pops of colour with plants of all sizes and a soft touch of some pastel here and there.

Of all the DIY projects you’ve worked on, what has been your favourite? I'm now offering my home as a photo shoot location so I'm really loving the flexibility of creating props and different looks for shoots, especially around our pool area. I also really enjoy painting so I'm always full of fresh ideas. What interior trends are you loving at the moment and what do you think will be popular for the upcoming season? I'm loving all the natural linens, chunky throws and plush fabrics as they provide your home with cosiness. Accessories are great, items like cushions, vases, bowls, throws, occasional chairs and side tables as they can be changed or replaced quite easily. Wicker and rattan are here to stay (think chairs, pendants, bedheads) and I feel we are moving away from structured design into more rustic boho styling.

Dining Quarter When it comes to summer, one thing on our priority list is food. And with the holidays not far away, there will be plenty of time for lazy days at the beach, shopping trips with friends, as well as lots and lots of eating out. Graze for Days After working with Stockland's National Food Ambassador Miguel Maestre on our upcoming national food campaign, Megan Felton from Your Platter Matters shares her tips for creating a great summer grazing table, with a focus on fresh, local produce. What makes a great grazing table? Lots of fresh fruit like mangoes, cherries, dragon fruit, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, watermelon, pomegranate, lychees, grapefruit and coconut. Edible flowers also add a really lovely touch. We purchase ours from the Earth Markets.

When putting together a grazing table for a client, what sorts of fresh produce/ ingredients do you like to include? Antipasti foods like cheese, meats, olives, breads and dips are very popular with our customers. To ensure they stay nice and fresh, these products are added to the table at the very last minute.
