A WORLD CLASS BRISBANE From international chains to boutique hotels, Brisbane is making its mark on luxury accommodation. Brisbane is well on its way to becoming a world-class city on par with not only our southern counterparts (yes, we mean you Sydney and Melbourne) but also international destinations such as Singapore, Berlin and San Francisco. Slowly but surely, recent developments in the Sunshine State have seen an influx of foodie, commercial and lifestyle destinations opening up. Perhaps most notable are the stunning new additions in Queensland’s hotel scene. As the tourism boom in Australia continues to thrive, remarkable new stays have started opening across the country, courtesy of international chains and luxury boutique hotels. As Brisbane’s cityscape continues to change around us, we thought it would be appropriate to turn our eyes to the biggest hotel openings in Brisbane.

WORDS BY SIOBHAN TAYLOR

PAGE 14

THE WESTIN Opening in November 2018, the new five-star hotel will be Brisbane’s first Westin branded hotel. Located right in the heart of Brisbane, the central hotel will make luxurious accommodation for business travellers easier than ever, with the entirety of Brisbane CBD on its doorstep. Designed to be an urban retreat for business and leisure travellers alike, the hotel has been designed with convenience and comfort at the front of mind, with a fitness studio, conference rooms, Executive Lounge, and variety of dining options all available. With casual café dining in the morning, relaxed yet high-end restaurant dining for lunch and dinner, as well as cool bar vibes and specialty cocktails and wine in the evening, the restaurants will allow guests to experience five-star treatment from the bedroom to the bar. OCTOBER 2018

EMPORIUM HOTEL SOUTH BANK Emporium Hotel has made the trip across the river and officially set up their stunning new digs in South Bank. The Anthony John Group property is the new 5-star, flagship hotel for the brand, and has opened in Brisbane with an entire precinct of eateries as part of the development. With Chris Norman and Alex Liddle, Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef (Pastry) respectively, at the helm, they will direct the extensive range of dining options announced as part of the precinct. Previously of Palazzo Versace, they will oversee the menu development for Belle Époque, The Piano Bar, The Terrace, in-suite dining and events. The hotel features 143 suites that have each been individually designed with the latest technology and luxury additions. With exceptional in-room automation and entertainment technology, as well as the kind of luxury amenities you would expect of a five-star hotel, Emporium Hotel has carved out their own slice of luxury within Brisbane’s growing hotel market.

W HOTEL By now you will be no stranger to W Brisbane, which recently opened its doors as part of the brand new Brisbane Quarter development. As W Hotels returns to Australia 10 years after W Sydney closed, the spectacular addition is a glorious celebration of quintessential Australian culture and iconography. The five-star hotel boasts over 300 designer rooms, each architecturally designed to feel just as luxurious as you could imagine, and each styled in W’s characteristically funky décor. Plus, with Brisbane’s first Three Blue Ducks restaurant and Edward’s & Co. salon, as well as the Instagram-worthy Wet Deck pool bar, there are plenty of reasons to visit even if you’re not staying the night. With panoramic views of South Bank, GOMA, Queensland Museum and more, W Brisbane has certainly made its mark on Brisbane’s riverside.

THE CALILE Like an oasis in the desert, the stunning The Calile Hotel on James St has had Brisbane locals peeping through construction scaffolding for months. Designed by Richards & Spence Architects, the masterminds behind multiple James Street landmarks, The Calile features seven storeys with 178 luxury rooms and suites, all celebrating the lush, sub-tropical climate we love of our River City. In addition to the rooms, the hotel also offers a range of boutiques for visitors and locals alike. Dion Lee, Bec + Bridge, Camilla & Marc, Love Stories (on the cover) and Bassike have all joined the development as part of the revitalisation of the James St precinct. As far as drinking and dining, Hellenika and the Lobby Bar will have guests struggling to leave The Calile precinct at all.

The hustle and bustle of modern life, the ease of jumping on a train, plane, or boat for holiday escapes – have we forgotten the magic of a good old fashioned road trip? Road trips can take many forms, from a CX-8 full of family and friends heading across the country, to just you and your special someone, top down on your MX-5, heading to the beach or a rainforest retreat. 4 ways to get your dream car for less If you feel like you’re outgrowing your car, Kedron Car Centre can help you upgrade with ease.

Go for quality over price A car is a big purchase and one that is important to get right. When it comes to used cars, it is just as important to buy from the right place as it is to buy the right car. It’s essential to look for a car with low kilometres and one that comes with log book service history. Also, ensure you’re provided with the car’s history reports and a roadworthy.

Buy second hand Choosing to buy a second hand car can help you save money up front, as well as in the long run. Most new cars will lose 25% of their value the minute you drive out of the sales yard, however used cars have a massively reduced depreciation. You can easily save thousands on a near new car that looks and drives just like a

brand new one. There’s also no waiting time on a used car, opposed to extensive wait times of weeks or even months on a new one.

Purchase from a reputable dealer It’s vital to purchase from a car dealer that has been selling cars for a long time and has developed a good reputation for providing quality cars to happy customers. The team at Kedron Car Centre network within the industry, allowing them to pick and choose the right cars at the right price for clients. Choosing the right dealer can help you to save thousands against the same car you would buy brand new.

When ARTmeets

FASHION

While Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival is all about high end fashion, there was one local Brisbane designer turning heads with her own quirky fashion.

W

ANDREW GRECH

hile designer collections were the highlight of this year’s MBFF, it didn’t go unnoticed that some guests showed their support, love and passion for the fashion industry by showing off their own creations. One of the standouts among the crowd was Andrijana Birtasevic from AB LABEL, whose remarkable designs featured a Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The prints were original artwork by talented artist Andrew Grech, created specifically for Andrijana for the event. “[I feel] very lucky that I’ve met him and we were able to collaborate on this fun project. What I’ve learnt is that he can see beyond what the eyes allow you to see, and he has the ability to show it through his artwork,” she said. She explained she stumbled upon Andrew’s work a few years ago after discovering him on social media, and is now uttterly obsessed. “Andrew is a remarkable, extremely talented, humble and very funny guy – I never thought that I would meet

him or that he would paint something for me.” Andrew completed a traineeship in Melbourne with Feltex International where he was mentored by Hungarian artist George Szloboda, who studied and painted with Oscar Kokoshka and Pablo Picasso. Andrew’s career began back in the 90’s, his name becoming well-known with prominent hotels and private collectors in both Australia and the rest of the world. Since then, he has been commissioned by a number of artists, celebrities and elite athletes, including David Beckham, Elton John, Kylie Minogue, the Royal Family of Malaysia, Manchester United FC, Grant Hackett, and Barry Humphries. Over the past decade, Andrew has established relationships with renowned car brands, developers, architects and interior designers in Australia and internationally. His versatile gift for painting the Australian landscape, combined with interpretive skills, has allowed him to transform plain spaces into environments of major appeal. Andrijana and other admirers alike look forward to seeing many more exquisite textile artworks from Andrew in the years to come.

A driven woman Radio host on 97.3FM’s breakfast show, Bianca Dye, opens up to Laura Frendon about her whirlwind life and what drives her to do and be better every day. Bianca Dye is no ordinary woman. She wears the hat of a radio and TV presenter, author, ambassador, and public speaker. She’s loud, proud, and never shies away from saying exactly what she thinks. She’s a driven woman, and makes a point of lifting others every day. After being told years ago that she had a voice for radio, Bianca started a job at SeaFM Gold Coast, before moving to Hervey Bay to host her own show. Since then, she’s moved a few more times, before landing where she is now, hosting the breakfast show on 97.3FM. When asked what her greatest achievement has been so far, she admits it’s hard to say because most people say “that’s easy, my kids!” But, she was honoured to say her career is something she’s put a lot of hard work into. “I was told early on by someone close to me that I didn’t have what it took to make it in the world of radio, so I made it my mission to prove them wrong. “I’m the only female in the country to win back to back National Radio Achievement Awards and, although I sound obnoxious saying that, I guess I need to own it at 45.” Describing herself as a driven person, Bianca says it’s a passion to help people feel less alone in the world that pushes her to make a

STYLEMAGAZINES.COM.AU

difference to someone’s life each day. “I feel that having a breakfast radio show is a great platform to do that. “When people come up to me in the supermarket and tell me that I made them laugh, or that sharing my IVF story made them feel like someone else was on the same journey, that’s the best thing to happen!”

In future, Bianca wants to work towards taking mental health awareness to a bigger level. She’s recently started @anxietyfree which has become a platform for people all over the world to share their stories. You can listen to Bianca on the Bianca, Mike and Bob Breakfast Show every morning on 97.3FM from 5:30am.

FROM THE kitchen table It all starts with an idea, a scribble of notes, a vision of success, and then a dream come true. These three women are living proof business really can bloom from your very own home. WORDS BY LAURA FRENDON BELINDA GUERRA FROM SCRUNCHIEO

When did you first have the idea to start ScrunchieO? I was going to the gym quite frequently when my trainer at the time told me I needed to use a scrunchie to stop snapping my fine hairs. After not finding any I had a few of my own made up. When my girlfriends came over they absolutely loved them, so I thought I’d make them available for anyone who wanted to prevent breakage and look good while doing it. A dear friend of mine and I then set up a website in the living room that very night and sold out in a matter of hours! What was the definitive “success” moment for you? Recently we’ve been stocked at Edwards & Co, Surry Hills. They’re absolute hair gods, and for them to acknowledge my brand as something that’s going to improve their clients’ hair quality, feels like a real accomplishment. Who would you love to see wearing your products? I would LOVE to see Margot Robbie rocking the ScrunchieO.

RENEE ROSS FROM RENEE LOVES FRANCES

When did you first have the idea to start Renee Loves Frances? I was around 14 when I started making jewellery, and at 16 my Dad would drive me to the local Art Market to sell my creations. It was always something I did alongside studying and my “real” job. At 21, I decided to throw in university and follow my heart, making Renee Loves Frances my full time career. What has been your biggest motivator? Along the way a few people asked when I was going back to university or getting a “real” job. I guess a part of me wanted to prove them wrong, and I wanted to show other women that you could turn your hobbies into a career. What do you love about having your own business? Creative freedom and being your own boss. Where do you plan to take Renee Loves Frances in the future? I’m so excited about my new label with Kasey Chambers, Poetry by Kasey & Renee. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid. KATIE DICKENS FROM DANCE BARRE

What was the timeline like when creating Dance Barre? I outgrew my first business “The Transform Method,” quickly. Clients were demanding me and I knew if I invested time into training my staff I would be able to offer more classes and choices for my clients. I spent two months researching and creating new content, and once I found a location, Dance Barre by KATIE Dickens was in full swing. I had over 100 clients within the first three months and expanded my studio space by the fourth month to cater to the growing demand and population. PAGE 30

What do you find most rewarding now that Dance Barre is up and running? I really love walking into the studios, seeing one of my awesome trainers running a class, hearing such positive feedback about the class, the trainers and gorgeous staff. Do you have any advice for those of us with big dreams who are struggling to get started? Never give up. Find that passion first and then hold onto it, set goals and remind yourself, “your biggest asset is yourself - mind over matter, anything is possible.” OCTOBER 2018

Excuse me, Miss We had a taste of the exciting new menu now being served at New Farm’s brunch local. Miss Jones is exactly what our café dreams are made of – millennial pink walls, a glowing neon sign, pops of lush greenery, and long tables for social dining. Daniel and his wife Hannah have been tucked into their spot in New Farm for the past year, making a name for themselves as the “must-see” spot for locals. We went to try three of their most anticipated new menu arrivals – the Israeli eggs, a new look avo smash, and the baklava waffles. No matter what your preference is come breakfast time, one of these is sure to take your fancy. Shock horror, we didn’t actually sample a coffee because, let’s be honest, we already know it’s going to be bloody good. So, we started off with Miss G, a neon green super shake made up of coconut water, mango, pineapple, spinach, kale, mint, and cucumber. While green beverages aren’t for everyone, it was pleasantly refreshing without the dreaded grassy aftertaste. Bonus points for the metal straw, too. To kick off the food, we tried the Israeli eggs, crispy kale, halloumi, broccolini, hummus, pesto, and a glorious poached egg on top of crispy schiacciata, sprinkled with a dusting of dukkah. It’s a mouthful, but a delicious one at that. Next we indulged in something a little sweeter and tried the baklava waffles. Blown away is an understatement – the combination of flavours between the cinnamon ice-cream, honey orange dollop cream, pistachio crumble, and smashed baklava were sweet enough STYLEMAGAZINES.COM.AU

AVO SMASH, ISRAELI EGGS, MISS G SMOOTHIE

without being sickly. Even if you’re not a fan of desserts for breakfast, you’ll be converted after trying these bad boys. Finally, we tried every millennial’s favourite, the avo smash. Now any brunch fanatic will know that a good avo smash is no easy feat.

AVO SMASH, ISRAELI EGGS, AND BAKLAVA WAFFLES THERE’S PLENTY FOR EVERY BREAKFAST ENTHUSIAST TO LOVE ON THE MENU AT MISS JONES CAFE. You have to get the avo to bread ratio right, allow for the toppings to subtly complement the avo, and not overtake, and all while maintaining a crispy sourdough beneath. Of course, Miss Jones did just that, combining hummus, basil, and black sesame to, dare we say, create one of the best avo smashes we’ve ever tasted. Daniel and Hannah are hoping to jump into

another venue sometime soon, and plan to extend their trading hours into the evening, so make sure you keep an eye out. READ MORE ONLINE MISS JONES CAFÉ 1/599 BRUNSWICK ST, NEW FARM P 0413 630 012 MISSJONESCAFE.COM

Strong women, strong coffee

How to reach your unconscious mind

Many people wish to have whiter, brighter teeth, but are worried that the process will be too difficult, too costly, or even harmful to their teeth. The truth is that quality tooth whitening can be relatively simple, quite cost effective, and perfectly safe. Put simply, tooth whitening involves the use of a whitening agent to remove organic staining and inherent discolouration from teeth, resulting in a whiter smile. When undertaken by a qualified dental practitioner, tooth whitening is extremely safe and causes absolutely no physical damage to the teeth. At Le Tooth Ascot, the team of highly trained dentists can offer you a number of effective and affordable whitening options, including in-chair whitening using Philips Zoom!, as well as customised take-home whitening kits. If you’re interested in a brighter, whiter smile, make an appointment to see the friendly team at Le Tooth Ascot.

International Coffee Day is celebrated around the globe on 1 October and this year The International Coffee Organisation has chosen the theme of ‘Women in Coffee’ to acknowledge the integral role women play throughout the entire coffee chain. This ranges from farming, processing, trading, roasting, brewing, and tasting. At Wolff Coffee Roasters we are passionate about empowering women, with 50% of our valued employees being women. For the first week of October, Wolff Coffee Roasters will be donating $1 from every cup sold to Women’s Legal Service QLD for Dancing CEO’s. Owner, Penny Wolff has accepted the challenge to be a Dancing CEO in 2019 hoping to raise $20,000 for this pertinent cause to assist women experiencing domestic violence. The team at Wolff hope to see you throughout October for a strong coffee to support our strong women.

On their own, a million little things don’t seem that important, but when you add them up, they can make all the difference. How well do you know your partner? Do you know their favourite movie, actor, or even their childhood best friend? Have you asked them about the important events in their life as a child, what they laughed at and when they cried? There are countless ways to discover your partner in the course of a relationship, but one simple way is to try learning about their life. Ask the meaningful questions, learn to celebrate their uniqueness and individuality and love them for it. Getting to know your partner on a deeper level is crucial to establishing a firm foundation for a relationship to flourish and grow. As you begin to know and understand more about your partner, you will be able to appreciate them and be better at responding to them in a positive and healthy way.

If you’ve been hitting the gym during winter to tighten and tone your body, but still have stubborn areas of fat, CoolSculpting might be the solution. CoolSculpting is the number one, noninvasive, fat reduction procedure available on the market right now, as it safely delivers controlled cooling to gently and effectively target fat cells. In the following weeks after the procedure, these cells then die and are eliminated from the body. The procedure has minimal impact on day to day life and most patients return to normal activities shortly after. Areas of the body that can be targeted include the inner and outer thighs, abdomen, flanks, upper arms, and love handles, and results are generally seen within 1-3 months after treatment. Got a full wardrobe and nothing to wear?

How to plan for your bundle of joy

Most people are aware that the reduction of sugary food and drinks helps to reduce tooth decay, but don’t realise that acidic food and drinks can also damage your teeth. Things such as citrus fruits, wine, and soft drinks can cause teeth to dissolve, resulting in dental erosion. This causes tooth enamel to thin, leading to sensitive, yellow teeth, and accelerated tooth wear. It’s not only important to assess the amount of sugary and acidic food and beverages consumed, but also the frequency of which you’re consuming them, as frequent snacking and sipping causes more damage than large, irregular consumption. It is also extremely important to maintain good nutrition, aim to always stay well hydrated, and keep a healthy gut and immune system, as this ensures good saliva flow, which is vital for a healthy mouth and comfort during chewing, swallowing, and speech.

It’s common to have an overflowing wardrobe filled with mismatched items before learning how to dress for your own style, personality, brand, and body shape. Almost every woman can relate to buying clothes to then never actually wear them. We trust the opinion of others (who have a different personality, colouring, and expression), rather than getting educated ourselves. How do we know if an item looks good on us? It’s not something we’re taught, so we experiment, which can often become expensive. Colour is the first place to start, because the wrong colours against your skin can make you look aged and washed out. The correct colours will most certainly have you looking more youthful and healthy. The next step is to align your colours with your style to match your individuality. This is where your confidence goes to the next level, and the ripple effect begins.

Deciding to start or expand your family is an exciting prospect. While there is a lot of emphasis placed on the process of actually trying for a baby, it often requires more than just monitoring cycles. A healthy start to conception is achieved by knowing your body well and being in good general health. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, a well-balanced diet, reducing alcohol consumption and smoking, and aiming to maintain weight within a healthy BMI range can help with this. It is also worthwhile checking in with your GP to ensure any pre-existing conditions are managed, particularly those that may impact conception and pregnancy. Good health and smart lifestyle choices mostly negate the need for a multivitamin during this time, but if you’re unsure where to start or what might be specifically important for you, start with a preconception consultation with an obstetrician.

Brooklyn Beauty Bar Booki Brow Co Compact $54.99

We asked beauty expert Brooke Jesberg from Brooklyn Beauty Bar about her best beauty tips for the spring soirée season. What do you love most about the spring party season? Everything – it’s my favourite time of year. I love shedding off the winter woollies and the dry winter skin that often accompanies them. Feeling fit, healthy, and fresh, and being able to bare a little more skin is great too. Open toes and no sleeves, lots of fun events to go to – there’s so much on. So what are your spring beauty tips? Spring clean! I love the look of fresh, clear, dewy skin, so recommend a mini herbal peel to get that lovely glow happening and to slough off dry skin. I love the look of virtually no other make-up apart from a strong brow PAGE 40

and some lovely lashes. Strong brows are definitely a continuing trend, but for those of us who are ‘follicly’ challenged, how do we get that look? I’m so obsessed with brows, but have been frustrated by the lack of the right products. I’ve now developed my own called Booki Brow Co. It’s your one stop for strong brows, while also doubling as eye shadow, accent highlighter and eye liner in one little compact. It’s highly pigmented and stays on well – just apply in the morning and you’re set for the day. Feather tattooing is also great. We’re finding this to be increasingly popular

for those who have wispy, fair, or ‘gappy’ brows. It’s very natural looking and lasts a long time. What other spring beauty secrets do you have? So many – just come in and ask us or read more on line. BROOKLYN BEAUTY BAR 5/15 JAMES ST, FORTITUDE VALLEY 61 PETRIE TCE, THE BARRACKS P 0421 202 447 BROOKLYNBEAUTYBAR.COM.AU

A conversation starter Two chippies are hoping to change the way men look at mental health, one loud shirt at a time. WORDS BY LAURA FRENDON

T

radesmen Dan and Ed met on a building site two years ago, instantly getting on like a house on fire. But in October of that same year, Dan lost one of his best mates to suicide, which made him realise just how bad mental health had become in Australia, particularly for men in the construction industry. After a lot of brainstorming, Dan and Ed came up with an idea to help change the lives of young men, by producing their own line of quality workwear, but with a twist. After spending many days coming up with ideas, saving cash on the weekends and working day and night to get themselves going, Trademutt was born. Having now sold 1500 units and increasing in popularity every day, the guys are now more motivated than ever to get their message out to the whole of Australia. Wearing the shirts themselves on a daily basis, they receive a lot of attention, which Ed says is the sole purpose of Trademutt shirts. “[People] absolutely love rocking them because others ask them what they’re about and then start to open up.” Even though there’s now so much awareness about the impacts of poor mental health, many are still battling depression, never getting the help they need. Dan and STYLEMAGAZINES.COM.AU

ED ROSS & DANIEL ALLEN

Ed believe this is due to a lack of education, which is why they’ve chosen to partner with the TIACS foundation.

“WE’RE EMPOWERING BLOKES TO STAND UP AND ADMIT THEY’RE STRUGGLING WITH MENTAL HEALTH.” The unmissable Trademutt shirts have “This Is A Conversation Starter” across the back, promoting the importance and normality of talking openly about mental health. The TIACS foundation provides education and counselling for those who want to take part in a few educational sessions and learn about how to look after their mental health properly. “It’s about making sure you’re being the best version of yourself and being in the

moment, rather than worrying about the past or the future,” says Ed. Men are notoriously known for shying away from serious topics and talking about their feelings, however Dan and Ed believe keeping conversations light is the best way to get someone to open up. When it comes to starting the conversation, Dan says it’s important to start casually. “You really just have to come at it from a compassionate and empathetic point of view. I think one of the biggest things to remember is just because you’re ready to talk, it doesn’t mean someone who’s struggling is.” The guys are looking for sponsors to get on board and help them to get out and about to make an impact on more people, and help spread their message by getting as many shirts on peoples’ backs as possible. Grow baby,

GROW

We chat to plant expert Patty Foley from Soul Pantry about the best tips and tricks on how to care for your much loved green friends this spring. You know how we’ve all been longing for spring to banish the dreary days of winter, envisioning the morning sunshine and spending our weekends at the beach? Well, so have succulents. These babies love spring as much as we do, and with the warmer weather and longer days now finally here, succulents come out of dormancy and begin to grow again. Succulents are perfect for the indoors and come in a great range of shapes and sizes. Terrariums are popular at the moment too, as they’re a great low maintenance alternative for classic indoor greenery. Now is the time to get your succulent pots and creations looking and feeling

their best. Here are a few tips to make sure they’re blooming and blossoming right through to summer: • Start watering your succulents once a week. • Succulents require bright light in order to bloom and grow so place your succulents on your veranda, balcony, or in the garden. However, keep in mind that they need to be somewhere they can be protected from the harsh QLD sun between 11am and 3pm. • Keep an eye out for great planters, as spring and planting go hand-in-hand. @MALENYBOTANICGARDENS

If you drive north from Brisbane for just over 90 minutes you’ll hit the gorgeous little town of Maleny. Surrounded by breathtaking views of mountains and lush greenery, it’s perfect for a chilled out weekend of café hopping. You can also discover a number of eclectic fashion boutiques and art galleries in the town’s main centre, or become one with nature and take a look through the Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World.

stradbroke island

While you need a little more than a set of wheels to get here, it’s certainly worth the trip. The entire journey to Stradbroke Island takes approximately 3 hours including the drive and ferry, so you can be enjoying your own little piece of paradise in no time. Apart from relaxing and enjoying the sun on your face and sand between your toes, you can also go swimming and four wheel driving, or participate in a kayak or a whale watching tour.

toowoomba

@AMERIAUS

While going west may not be everyone’s first choice, we’re sure a quick two hour drive to Toowoomba will have you changing your mind in no time. Toowoomba is in full bloom at this time of year, preparing for their annual Carnival of Flowers. With a rich colonial history tracing back to the early 1840s, Toowoomba is a great road trip destination for a family weekend of exploring.

lamington national park

If you drive south of Brisbane for two hours you’ll find yourself amongst Lamington National Park. As a part of the Gondwana Rainforests, it contains a number of stunning waterfalls and 150km of walking trails. This destination is one for the explorers, as you can visit O’Reilly’s Tree Top Walk and literally walk among the trees, getting a bird’s eye view of the beautiful rainforest. OCTOBER 2018

TRAVEL

DEBATE GOLD COAST ELIZA LANDGREN, CREATOR OF ELLE FIT ACTIVE @ELLEFITACTIVE What’s your favourite beach? Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach. Where is your favourite place on the GC? Burleigh Hill lookout on a calm, offshore winters day. The turquoise water is insane. Best spot for a cocktail with a view? Upstairs at The Collective, great vibe! Your local secret… if you can share! Sunrise every morning at the beach @sunrisesquids Most underrated aspect of the GC? A lot of tourists go to Surfers Paradise, however I feel as though all of the hidden gems on the Gold Coast are found further south. Where do you take out-of-towners when you want to “wow!” them? Our day would look a little like this. A sunrise surf, breakfast at Nude Sisters Wholefood Kitchen, a skate along Miami, a jaffle at Spikexx, sunset at Burleigh Hill, and then Justin Lane for dinner. STYLEMAGAZINES.COM.AU

It’s the age old question we find ourselves asking over and over again. Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast? We ask two locals why their neck of the woods is better than the other.

What’s your favourite part about living on the SC? Everything is just SO EASY. Everything I could possible want or need is literally two minutes from home. No traffic, beautiful coastline and beaches, amazing restaurants, shopping, nightlife – we have it all and more. What’s your favourite beach? Tea Tree Bay, Noosa. It’s beyond stunning and the surf is good when there is swell. Your local secret… if you can share! There is a little hidden Italian restaurant called Cala Luna in Maroochydore that has been there for a billion years. It’s a family owned business run by the sweetest people who make the best authentic Italian food. It’s kitschy, affordable and welcoming and would rival any fancy pants restaurant from Sydney for sure. Something about the SC most people don’t know... Even though Noosa Main Beach is rated in the top 10 beaches in Australia, it’s actually the bays further around that are the jewels in the crown. Go find the fairy pools! #fairypoolsnoosa

Occupation Mumtrepreneur, Lifestyle Blogger, Ambassador, Founder of Find Your Fierce, Host and Public Speaker.

Tell us about Find Your Fierce After I had Willow, I found myself exposed to a whole new world of women. I found myself in negative environments, surrounded by women who weren’t supportive. My intention for Find Your Fierce was to create a safe space and a supportive community, not only for myself, but for other women who may have found themselves in similar situations.

Best piece of advice you’ve been given BACK YOURSELF! It’s about owning who you are, trusting in yourself and believing that you are worthy and capable of absolutely anything and everything that you put your mind to.
