summer donuts INGREDIENTS 70g butter, softened 500g plain flour 1 tsp baking powder 70g sugar 1 egg 260ml full cream milk Vegetable oil for frying Pre-made icing or frosting, for piping Assorted summer fruits, herbs and edible flowers for decorating
Grab the kids and spend the afternoon creating these sweet treats together. After all, Christmas is all about making memories. For a healthy alternative, decorate with dried fruit and nuts from Naked Foods.
METHOD 1. Sift flour and baking powder into a large bowl and rub butter in with hands. Mix in the sugar. 2. In a separate bowl, beat egg and milk together. Make a well in the flour mixture, then pour in the egg mixture. Fold together until a soft dough is formed. 3. On a floured surface, roll out dough until it’s approximately 1cm thick. Cut into a shape of your choice. 4. Fry in hot oil (approximately 180C) for 30 seconds, flip and cook for a further 30 seconds or until golden. 5. Drain on kitchen paper and roll in cinnamon sugar if desired. Pipe frosting onto donut and top with fruit, herbs and edible flowers.
