ecorating your home for the summer months is all about embracing a relaxed and welcoming vibe to create spaces you can unwind in. As the summer season also coincides with the entertaining season here in Australia, it’s essential for your home to feel fun, fresh, and inviting. There are a few simple ways to update your home this season and create a space that feels like a holiday at home! Soft furnishings can set the tone for the space during each season. For summer I recommend selecting fabrics such as linen and cotton that are lightweight and soft to the touch. Try adding a few linen cushions in a colourful striped pattern to your sofa or bed for a fresh new look. Remove any heavy blankets and soft furnishings in textures such as faux fur and wool as these create too much warmth and heaviness during the summer months.

Scent is an often-forgotten aspect of decorating but can play a huge role in how a home feels and the atmosphere it portrays. For summer I recommend adding scents such as citrus, freshly washed linen or jasmine to your home to create a calming and relaxing vibe. Simply add a reed diffuser to the entryway and living area and light a few candles prior to guests arriving. Colour is the main aspect to embrace when decorating your home for summer and it can be added in subtle and easy ways. For the bedroom I love switching up my quilt cover to something colourful in a shade of pink, green, blue or yellow and adding cushions with an interesting pattern for a styled look. In the kitchen, try adding a large bowl to the island bench filled with citrus fruits or a large bunch of colourful, seasonal flowers. In the outdoor living areas, I suggest refreshing your plants and adding some brightly coloured cushions to your existing outdoor furniture.

MORE IS MORE Maximalist interiors are redefining home décor with unconventional designs, bold hues, and innovative furnishings. Unlike minimalism, which embraces simplicity and a “less is more” approach, maximalism celebrates all things excess. The key? Find a balance between abundance and cohesiveness.

THE RUG ESTABLISHMENT

MORE IS MORE Break free from the idea that less is more and embrace the “more is more” philosophy this summer. Think visually rich and opulent spaces filled with colour, pattern, and personality.

Eliza ’ s

TOP TIPS Tip 1 Contrasting colours are huge when decorating in a maximalist way. For summer, try mixing bright greens and blues or pastel pink and yellow for a unique and fun, summery vibe.

Tip 2 Layering is key with this trend, so ensure your sofas are layered with beautiful, coloured throw rugs and cushions or your coffee table has a beautiful vignette filled with books, vases, candles, and flowers.

COAST

REVIVAL Taking cues from the sand, sea, and sky – coastal interiors are a must for summertime. This easy breezy trend features a soothing colour scheme, nautical motifs, and the use of natural furnishings like rattan chairs and crisp white linens (the kind that invites you to kick off your sandals and sink into after a day spent by the water).

LEANING INTO

LINES

Robust and prominent lines are serving as one of the fundamental elements in the interior design space this season. The trend, which draws inspiration from a blend of art deco and mid-century modern styles, has introduced a fresh new take on décor. It’s visually striking and impactful but can easily be pared back for a more subtle approach.

Eliza ’ s

TOP TIPS Tip 1 Stripes are one of the most classic patterns to use when decorating an interior. The timeless look allows you to have fun in a bold way whilst knowing it’s a trend that stands the test of time.

Tip 2 Inject stripes this summer in your tableware and entertaining decorating. I love adding a striped tablecloth or table runner and pairing with some contrasting-coloured napkins or dinnerware for a fun, summer look.

MATERIALS The raw materials trend is in full force this season with everything from beautiful clay pots and vases to unvarnished wooden tables hitting store displays. This trend highlights the use of natural, unrefined resources like wood, stone, concrete, and terracotta for an effortless and simplistic look.

TOP TIPS Tip 1 When selecting larger pieces in the raw materials trend I suggest choosing one statement piece per room. This will allow balance within the space and draw the eye towards one focal point.

Tip 2 Vases and pots are a great way to embrace this trend in a subtle way. Simply group together three vases in materials such as concrete, terracotta or raw timber and place some beautiful stems or native flowers inside for a styled look.

Eliza ’ s

TOP TIPS Tip 1 An easy way to refresh your outdoor living space is by switching out your old cushions and rugs for some new, brightly coloured pieces in an on-trend pattern. A simple and affordable upgrade this summer!

Tip 2 Create a mood in your outdoor entertaining areas in an unexpected way by adding creative lighting. I love adding lanterns to the corners of the room, festoon lights hung from trees or fairy lights draped along the ceiling.
