designers Our Fashion collaboration with local designers continues in the form of a pop up market on the first weekend of every month. Come along and pick up something special from Australia’s up and comers.

One of our rising stars, Grace Lillian Lee has gone from strength to strength in the last year, showcasing at Australian Indigenous Fashion Week where her designs were worn and photographed on international superstar Samantha Harris. She’s also curated the fashion performance for the 2014 Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, and worked alongside Brana Wolf, former editor and stylist of Vogue. She’s now heading to Brisbane, where she’s received a scholarship at QUT’s Stitch Lab to start production on a new range. We wish her the best of luck on her journey, and can’t wait to discover more fashion talent amongst our locals.

Pico de Gallo

Green herby salsa The salsa is the hot beating heart in Tex‑Mex cooking, so take it seriously.

2 garlic cloves, skin left on 1–2 fresh green chillies, e.g. medium-hot chillies or jalapeño 2 tbsp olive oil 1 large bunch of fresh coriander (cilantro) 1 bunch of fresh parsley 1 cucumber 2 avocados salt Toast the garlic and chillies in a dry frying pan. When they’ve turned a nice colour, peel the garlic, deseed the chillies and mix together with the oil and the herbs in a blender.

It’s been 10 years since you were crowned Miss Universe. How has your personal style changed since then?

dressing. White is another big trend that always looks great against bronzed skin in summer.

I certainly feel more confident about what my true style is. Over time I’ve developed a sense of what suits me and works back well with pieces I already have. I’ll always gravitate to a laid-back beach style with a little sexiness, and I tend to steer clear of anything too girly.

I like to mix classic basics such as denim shorts or a well-cut blazer with on-trend pieces. When it comes to choosing a special piece, I love designers like Alex Perry, Toni Maticevski and Yeojin Bae.

you’ve slept in and have ten minutes to get ready, talk us through your go-to outfit, hair and makeup look.

What are your top tips for women dressing for Spring Racing season?

If you can, plan your outfits well in advance so you don’t have a last minute panic. Around a month before works well for me, as it gives me enough time to decide on accessories and how I’d like to wear my hair. To feel your best, a beautiful fake tan will give you confidence. I use JBronze, as it’s super natural and gives me a lovely healthy glow. Wearing fake tan also means you can keep foundation to a minimum, which will ensure you look fresh faced. Also, avoid wearing new shoes and remember you are in them all day so make sure they are comfortable!

I usually have a little fake tan on my face, which is great to save time in the mornings, as you don’t really need foundation. So with a little colour already I just use mascara, lipgloss and some JBronze shimmer on my cheeks. For a quick, no fuss outfit in a hurry I’d choose light denim skinny jeans and a black blazer. If it’s warm, denim shorts, a singlet and a pair of nice flats.

What’s been the highlight of your time as the Face of Myer?

Wow, there have been so many highlights! Working with amazing designers really has been incredible.

I’ve done some amazing campaigns working with the other ambassadors like Kris Smith, and Myer’s twice-annual fashion launch parades are a highlight; it’s always such a rush taking to the catwalk. cozi by jennifer hawkins

What are your favourite trends coming through for Spring/Summer?

I love all the sorbet colours we’re seeing on the catwalk, which are really beautiful and feminine. I also really like the casual boho vibe, paired back with denim for daytime
