ART & CULTURE
Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking. (Insert your best Miranda Priestly glare here.) But seriously, with Spring comes sunshine, warmer weather, allergies, and, of course, flowers. The Orlando Museum of Art is once again hosting Art in Bloom: Festival of Fine Arts and Flowers. It is a wonderous showcase of spectacularly fresh floral designs inspired by the fine arts works from the museum’s permanent collection and current exhibitions. It’s a fun-filled, three-day, harmonious marriage of flowers complementing art, and vice versa. 2020 set the bar high by kicking off the festival with an exclusive ‘60s inspired Flower Power Party, stocked with an open bar, specialty cocktails, and scrumptious hors d’oeuvres amid the sounds of mid-century music, as well as a live fashion sketch experience. Renowned Central Florida florists participated in the event with their floral interpretations of OMA’s art collection, and local garden clubs also lent their floral flair. James Farmer, gardner, author, florist, interior designer, and cook and lifestyle expert, was a special guest where VIP ticket holders could pick his brain before attending his lecture and book signing.
Festival of Fine Arts and Flowers By Khadejah Khan
This year’s guest speakers include Carleton Varney, president and owner of Dorothy Draper & Co., and Margot Shaw, Editor-in-Chief of Flower magazine and author of Living Floral: Entertaining and Decorating with Flowers. Hopefully, familiar floral designers will return for the festival as well as newcomers, and perhaps we can expect the return of a popup boutique selling fresh take-home plants and blossoms, a daintily crafted floral inspired tea room serving iced tea, desserts, and wine, hands-on floral art workshops, a mystery home tour, antique shopping, and more. Art in Bloom: Festival of Fine Arts and Flowers is on March 24-27 at the Orlando Museum of Art.

STOP & SMELL THE ROSES
Brilliant gardens, fresh flavors, lively entertainment and more! Starting on March 2nd to July 4th, Walt Disney World’s Epcot will be having its International Flower and Garden Festival once again. This year will mark the festival’s 29th year on display and the blooms will be full speed ahead. There will be Garden Rocks Concerts that occurs three times a night in the America Gardens Theatre within the park, and the World Showcase will be hosting over 20 different booths. This 90-day festival displays an immense amount of color and artwork that visitors are able to relish in. It includes flower towers, a butterfly garden, and 30-million blooms. You don’t have to be a professional florist or topiarist to enjoy the wonderful sights and smells of the park during this time.
BEWARE OF THE DRAGONS! Join the hunt for the hidden treasure! The Harry P. Leu Gardens are an Orlando favorite for those who enjoy a nice walk in the park, or for those looking for something to do away from the screen. They aim to “inspire visitors to appreciate and understand plants.” And right now, they are having a mythical journey through the 50-acre botanical gardens to find the dragons’ hidden treasure. Each guest, a “seeker,” will receive a special map with information on finding legendary artifacts and clues. Each clue will help guide the “seeker” to decipher the meaning and find the location of the hidden treasure. Beware of the Dragons! Dragons are in the gardens. Keep watch on your quest and remember dragons are protectors of their treasure. Dragons Hidden Treasure Quest is included with your daytime garden admission. Face Masks are required for indoors only.

PEOPLE
SPOTLIGHT ON
WD INVEST Before Doni Marangon and Werner Macedo became founders of WD Invest, they were living different lives. Marangon was a professional soccer player in Europe and Macedo was specializing in accounting & finance in New York. What brought the two together ultimately, aside from the mutual friend and former partner who connected them, was the mutual interest they both shared in the real estate market. After living in Brazil for many years and spending some time in Italy and England, Marangon immigrated to the United States where he had done extensive research in the real estate market. Macedo simultaneously shifted his focus from accounting and started investing in the real estate market in 2013. It was in 2017 the two Brazilian born immigrants came together and founded WD Invest.
“THE DNA OF OUR COMPANY WILL ALWAYS BE THE TRUTH TO OUR NATURE, AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE AN ENTRY-LEVEL HOME TYPE OF COMPANY”
20
| ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM
WD Invest has three partner companies that sit under the umbrella including D32 Builder, I4 Developer and Rome Reality Management. The company focuses on the investment, development and construction of properties ranging all over the state of Florida. Projects include commercial real estate, apartment communities and multi-family homes. The company has expanded undoubtedly in the last five years of its existence. To date, WD Invest has over 1.28 billion in project sales and 3,590 units under construction. They just started the construction of 419 single family homes in the Greater Ocala area and plan to have 120 apartments in Deltona completed in the next month.
Macedo projects that with the continuous growth in Florida, the demand for housing will continue to increase. Due to the continued demand, WD Invest is undergoing several upcoming projects including plans to create 630 units in Belleview, and more 536 units in Deltona, among others. Despite the continued growth of the company, Macedo and Marangon agree that the values will always remain the same, as WD Invest was founded on the premises of the workforce. “The DNA of our company will always be the truth to our nature, and it will always be an entrylevel home type of company,” Macedo says. For Macedo and Marangon, their business is more than just a company, it’s family. In fact, some of the communities they have built together were named after their children and wives. The founders value the strong ties with their partners and colleagues and are very grateful to be a part of their growing community. “I could never imagine the depths of how far we have gotten,” says Macedo. The two partners went from flipping homes, to buying single-family homes, to present day where they are managing, developing and building 3,590 units throughout. The secret to their ongoing success? According to Macedo, it’s their willingness to go where others may not and seeing what can be done.

PROTECT YOUR FACE
By Devyn Le
Everything you should know about protecting your skin from blue light. You probably already have a skincare routine that you do religiously, but have you considered adding an extra step for blue light protection? In this age of digitalization and technology, many people are unaware about the effects that the blue light from their phone or computer screen has on their skin. Blue light contains high-frequencies and short wavelengths that are detrimental to your skin cells. The effects are not immediate but are long term. It has been found that blue light causes cell shrinkage, speeds up the aging process, and adds excess stress to the skin. Recently, many brands have released creams and serums focusing on just blue light protection alone. Before the release of these blue light focused protectants, many professionals recommended just wearing sunscreen or SPF. Unfortunately for the consumer, many of these common sunscreens leave a white cast or a thick and sticky feeling on your face. That’s why brands like Soleil Toujours and Goodhabit have deterred away from the common sunscreen, introducing other products of protection. The Goodhabit brand, released in 2020, is a leading skincare company in the protection from blue light. They provide on their brand website (goodhabitskin.com) that SPF is not enough to fight the visible blue light. Their best seller is the Water Jelly Dew Cream which is supposed to
provide “heavyweight hydration with a lightweight feel” utilizing their BLU5 technology. This technology they have created is from the extraction of a marine active off the coast of Greenland. This active ultimately creates a light protective film on the skin while neutralizing the effects of blue light. Furthermore, luxury brand, Soleil Toujours, has also released an anti-blue light formulated mist. Soleil Toujours announced their mission to “erase the divide between luxury skincare and serious suncare, making protection from the sun’s harmful rays a daily routine, not just a beach-day consideration” (soleiltoujours.com). However, their Organic Set+ Protect Micro Mist SPF 30 also provides protection from the blue light with the inclusion of the EcoSun Complex. This is their blend of red algae, ascorbyl pamitate (oil-soluble form of vitamin C), vitamin E, and bisabolol (extracted from chamomile) that is included in their products. ßThey also focus on sustainable packaging and environmental responsibility, so you don’t have to feel guilty when purchasing their products knowing that they are vegan and environmentally friendly. Make the choice to add the extra step of blue light protectant skincare to your routine and you’ll realize that’s what you’ve been missing.

“
The Audi skysphere concept shows how the brand is redefining luxury in the future”
26
| STYLETOME.COM
TOYS
AUDI SKYSPHERE THE FUTURE IS WIDE OPEN Audi has unveiled the first member of a new family of concept vehicles, a spectacular roadster. Audi skysphere concept is the name of the electric-powered, two-door convertible whose lines lead directly to the Audi design of tomorrow. With it, the brand is illustrating its vision for the progressive luxury segment of the future, in which the interior becomes an interactive space and the vehicle a platform for captivating experiences. This is being made possible thanks to autonomous driving, a revolutionary redesign of the interior, and a seamless digital ecosystem. The Audi skysphere concept shows how the brand is redefining luxury in the future – it’s no longer just about driving. The concept car was designed with the clear objective of offering its occupants captivating and world-class experiences. To give passengers the maximum amount of freedom, the Audi skysphere concept was designed for two different driving experiences: a grand touring experience and a sports experience. This makes use of a spectacular technical detail – the variable wheelbase. Electric motors and a sophisticated mechanism with body and frame components that slide into one another make it possible to vary the wheelbase itself and the exterior length of the car by 250 millimeters. At the same time, the vehicle’s ground clearance is adjusted by 10 millimeters to enhance comfort and driving dynamics. With the touch of button, the driver can take advantage of their freedom and choose their own driving experience– either they pilot their 4.94-meter-long e-roadster themselves in “Sports” mode with a reduced wheelbase, while the rear-wheel steering ensures that the vehicle remains extremely agile despite its dimensions. Or they can choose to be chauffeured around in a 5.19-meter GT in the autonomous “Grand Touring” driving mode while enjoying the sky and the scenery, maximum legroom, and the services offered by a seamlessly integrated digital ecosystem. In this mode, the steering wheel and pedals move into an invisible area; the feeling of space
in the concept car opens up completely new realms of possibility for such a sporty convertible. Meanwhile, the Audi skysphere automatically keeps an eye on the road and traffic with its sensor system and drives the occupants safely to their destination. Similar to how the interior design offers a new, contemporary interpretation of luxury, digitization and the ecosystem open up unprecedented levels of freedom and worlds of experience for the vehicle’s passengers. Thanks to Audi’s own services and the ability to integrate digital services, the possibilities are nearly endless. In addition, the passengers can share their experience on the road with friends via social media, with images of the interior and the surrounding area. The vehicle also takes care of everyday tasks that go beyond the ride itself. For example, the autonomous Audi skysphere concept picks up its passengers with information about their current destination and independently handles parking and charging. The Audi skysphere concept will make its public debut on August 13, 2021, as part of Monterey Car Week – on the legendary fairways of the Pebble Beach golf course. This means the vehicle’s unveiling in California is taking place more or less on its home turf. This is because the concept car was conceived and designed at the Audi Design Studio in Malibu, just a stone’s throw away from the Pacific Coast Highway, the legendary coastal road that connects the suburbs of Los Angeles with northern California. Studio manager Gael Buzyn and his team are the creative minds behind the project. A legendary classic model from the company’s own history – the Horch 853 roadster – served as the inspiration for the new groundbreaking model. The impressive convertible, which is also around 5.20 meters in length, was not only the definition of modern luxury in the 1930s, but also won the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach in 2009. But the visual inspiration from its predecessor is limited to the concept car’s dimensions and typical proportions with a rather compact cabin and long front end. A look under the hood of
the Horch reveals an imposing straight-eight engine with a displacement of 5 liters. The Audi skysphere, on the other hand, mainly has electric drive components between the front axle and the windshield, such as the charger and the DC/ DC converter, plus the actuators and electronic and mechanical components for the adaptive wheelbase. It also features a spacious trunk filled with two golf bags specially designed for the concept car. Audi skysphere, Audi grandsphere, and, coming in 2022, Audi urbansphere are the three concept cars that the brand with the four rings is using to showcase its vision of progressive luxury. In the process, Audi is creating a vehicle experience that goes far beyond the purpose of merely spending time in a car to get from point A to point B, and even far beyond the driving experience itself. These concept cars feature a new design that ultimately reimagines the interior, the passenger compartment, as the center of the vehicle and no longer subordinates the passenger experience to the requirements of the technology. This is reflected in the variable layout of the interior, the disappearance of the controls, and the sheer expanse of the cabin. In Grand Touring mode, this not only allows both passengers to enjoy a smooth and pleasant journey, but also combines it with new service offerings. These can be used to access a variety of service options related to the current trip – such as designing a spectacular scenic route, as well as restaurant or hotel options. Customized infotainment options are also available, such as linking the on-board streaming service to music and video providers used at home. And in a further step, Audi also aims to provide personalized and exclusive options for users of its luxury cars in the future – such as concerts, cultural events, or even sporting events that are only available upon special invitation. In this way, a vehicle like the Audi skysphere concept will become a platform for experiences that expand horizons beyond the mere ride in just a few years.

Ferrari’s 2022 Formula 1 Ferrari unveil their 2022 challenger, the F1-75 Ferrari’s 2022 Formula 1 car, the F1-75, has been revealed with a black-and-red livery, and another variation in sidepod design for the new generation of rules. After two winless seasons, Ferrari hopes its 2022 car – which has been the focus of a major car and engine development programme – will enable it to fight more regularly at the front in F1 again. Drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz joined team principal Mattia Binotto to launch the F1-75, which features a distinct interpretation of the new rules with its sidepod design – but does mirror Aston Martin in having cooling louvres on the top. The car also has a revised colour scheme following the departure of long-time backer Philip Morris International and with it the Mission Winnow branding that has been featured for the last few seasons.

This car has been designed by a restructured and slimmed-down Ferrari organization intended to address existing weaknesses but also adjust to the needs of the F1 cost cap. David Sanchez is tasked with the vehicle concept, with senior chassis responsibilities split between Enrico Cardile (chassis performance engineer) and Fabio Montecchi (chassis project engineering). In parallel, Ferrari has funded the introduction of a new state-ofthe-art driver-in-loop simulator at Maranello, which was operational in the second half of last. Under the skin, Ferrari has worked tirelessly to complete its recovery from the hit its power unit performance took in 2020, which followed the raft of technical directives issued by the FIA after unproven suspicions about the Ferrari engine. Last year, Ferrari made an encouraging step forward and established itself as the thirdstrongest engine manufacturer.
Ferrari’s 2021 improvements netted third in the constructors’ championship, which – though well behind Mercedes and Red Bull – meant it hit its target.
The introduction of a significant hybrid upgrade, with a new energy store that increased it from a 400volt to an 800-volt system in the final third of the season, was also an important step.

CELEBRITIES YOU FORGOT
RAN FOR OFFICE By Riesa Pascal

CELEBRITY SOUP
MEET THE STARS WHO WERE READY TO TRADE IN THE RED CARPET FOR POLITICS! Who says politics is just for politicians? From Ronald Regan and Clint Eastwood to even The Terminator himself, there have been numerous actors, athletes and other public figures who have all won their way to higher office after a successful career in the Hollywood spotlight. However, celebrity fame doesn’t always guarantee you an automatic win as the following stars discovered after voicing their own political aspirations. Cynthia Nixon In 2018, Cynthia Nixon announced she would be running for Governor of New York. The Sex and the City actress knew her chances of becoming Governor were slim and she was right. Nixon ultimately lost to Andrew Cuomo in spite of a hard fought campaign, but she has no regrets about running. She spoke candidly of her political aspirations in an interview saying, “Still every day multiple people come up to me and say, ‘I voted for you…thank you for running.’” Howard Stern Nixon wasn’t the only celebrity to miss out on a chance to govern the Big Apple! Famed radio show host Howard Stern also gave politics a try all the way back in 1994 when he announced that he’d be running for Governor of New York. Stern was up against Mario Cuomo and George Pataki at the time, but he eventually withdrew from the race after refusing to submit the customary personal finance disclosure. Roseanne Barr I can’t speak for everyone, but I for one definitely forgot that Roseanne Barr ran for President! In 2012, the comedian launched a campaign of promises that were centered around “marijuana legalization, environmental preservation, ending the wars overseas and equal rights.” Though Barr won nearly 70,000 votes, she ended up placing sixth in the famous election that saw the induction of America’s first black President. Kanye West Perhaps the most recent failed run on our list belongs to Kanye West. The rapper and ex-husband of Kim Kardashian announced his 2020 presidential election campaign through Twitter on Independence Day and conceded his campaign four months later on November 4, 2020, the morning after Election Day. Though he missed at least six states’ deadlines to appear on the ballot as a third-party candidate, West still received over 60,000 votes in the 12 states where he had ballot access and received the 5th highest national vote count for a non-perennial presidential ticket.
Clay Aiken After rising to global fame on season 2 of American Idol, Clay Aiken enjoyed a decade of singing and song-writing before deciding to add politics to his resume. In 2014, Aiken ran for Congress as a Democratic representative in the 2nd Congressional District of North Carolina. Although he did not win the election, the singer has continued his political activism and is running again this year to represent North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District. Stacey Dash Clueless star Stacey Dash was no stranger to politics when she worked as a political analyst and contributor for Fox News from 2014 to 2016. The actress and outspoken Republican announced her candidacy to represent California’s 44th Congressional District in 2018, but withdrew only a month later. She spoke of her decision saying, “At this point, I believe that the overall bitterness surrounding our political process, participating in the rigors of campaigning, and holding elected office would be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of my family.” Wyclef Jean After the 2010 earthquake devastated the country of Haiti, Wyclef Jean announced that he would be running for the Haitian presidency. Sadly, the Haitian-American rapper’s political run was cut short after Haiti’s electoral council denied his bid. Though no official reason was given, Jean believes it was because he didn’t meet the five-year residency requirement. He accepted the disqualification with grace in a public statement saying, “We must all honor the memories of those we’ve lost—whether in the earthquake, or at any time—by responding peacefully and responsibly to this disappointment.” Jerry Springer When you hear the name Jerry Springer, the thought of politics probably doesn’t come to mind, but think again! The controversial daytime talk show host actually has an established background in politics and it began long before he became famous for meditating outrageous domestic disputes. In 1970, Springer even ran for Congress, and although he lost the election, he did serve 10 years as the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio from 1971 to 1981.

‘HIIT’ THE
FLOOR
With High Intensity Interval Training Get Fit in Less Time By Shelby Newman
Tired of busting your butt at the gym for hours at a time and seeing little results? HIIT, standing for high intensity interval training, is quickly becoming one of the most popular styles of working out due to its exciting and challenging nature as well as its convenience for people on a time crunch. However, it is much more than a fleeting trend. Programs like F45, Orange Theory, and CrossFit are good examples of mixed modal forms of training, meaning they combine elements of high-intensity, strength, cardio, and circuit training to provide you with the most effective workout in less time than a trip to the local gym. No matter your fitness level, HIIT training programs have something to offer you. You might be asking yourself, “How is HIIT any better for me than a regular trip to the gym?” The answer is simple. The science behind HIIT is the reason why a 30-minute HIIT session can be more effective than an hour running on the treadmill at the gym. To sum it up - by performing short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by short periods of recovery, you’re heart rate is rising and falling quickly, making your body work harder to stabilize. By pushing your body to the limits, it will begin pulling from stored fat for fuel, causing fat loss and muscle building. During an average F45 class, you can burn between 500 and 800 calories within the allotted 45 minutes, depending on your age, gender, and fitness level. The average person only burns about 200 calories in 45 minutes of regular exercise on their own. An additional benefit to this type of training is that you can expect to burn calories for up to 36 hours after a session – that means you’ll be burning calories in your sleep. Besides the obvious health benefits, HIIT programs are usually done in a group setting, which not only encourages a sense of community, but motivates you to challenge yourself alongside your team. Coaches are also readily available to help you achieve the correct form and keep you moving when the going gets tough. Prefer to work alone? HIIT programs are based on individual success, meaning everyone focuses on their own progress. The best part about it is that you are free to work at your own speed and level. If you’re a beginner, or just having a bad day, you can simply go down in weight or do fewer reps to tailor to your body’s needs. Success is measured based on the individual, since a 60-year-old might not perform the same as a 20-year-old. Joining a HIIT gym is more than a workout choice - it’s a lifestyle change. Perfect for busy people looking for a fun challenge, a HIIT community might be exactly what you’re looking for to make friends, reach fitness goals, and maybe even achieve the six-pack abs you’ve been wanting.

FEATHER & FUZZ This spring, the designers we know and love have released fuzzy slides and baby heels as the trends of the season. They’re promoting comfort and class by keeping the outfits casual but upping the ante with these shoes that can totally transform the outfit. Furry heals are heading for the streets, turning heads as they pass. The low baby heels that have been detected on this season’s catwalks are bringing femininity and delicacy to the bright spring season with their kitten heels. The versatility in these trends will add the extra spring and fluff to your step!
FLOWER POWER 2022 Spring in Florida...Floral! Floral motifs are in and bolder than ever this spring. Designers have matched floral prints with bright neon colors on ball gowns and teatime tulip dresses to casual crop-tops and maxi skirts. These looks will have you blossoming like the Garden of Eden. Don’t forget the floral print heels to mix and match as well. Tom Ford, Valentino, and Marni to name a few, are all in on this trend. Be bold this season and sport that flower power.
By Devyn Le
Another trend you don’t want to miss out on this season are the pastel tones. Spring is blossoming and it’s time for the lilacs, lavenders and peonies to shine. Many have been sporting this look in monochrome pantsuits matched with trench-coats, but this trend also works for those soft early 2000’s cardigans that have made a comeback, matched with a small handbag.

Khalid Muneer Jupiter Properties Inc/Universal Business consultants/ Home constructors LLC Khalid Muneer is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Central Florida, Business, Networking and closing deals are his best trade but his first passion is his family and the Orlando community, where he has built a legacy of good deeds, and strong business alliances over the last two decades. Born in Pakistan, raised in the United Kingdom, Khalid Muneer, founded Jupiter Properties Inc. Group, successfully creating a real estate brokerage firm from one employee to 27 with an emphasis on service and an international staff capable of servicing a culturally diverse customer base. As a 30-year resident of central Florida and having lived in ten different countries in his previous career in International investment banking, he acquired the skill set needed to excel in today’s rapidly changing and ultracompetitive technology driven real estate industry. Today, his company specializes in residential, commercial and business brokerage, covering Flagler, Volusia, Osceola and Orange counties with a physical presence of agents in these areas. When he first arrived to the United States, he opened a number of small service-oriented businesses before starting his real estate career and the opening of Jupiter Properties Inc. a company centered on diversity and a brand marked by innovation. Real estate at that time was going through revolutionary changes due to internet and technology and purchasing by foreign residents. With an edge over other companies due to his vast international experience and knowledge of other cultures and languages, the company was successful by educating a very diversified number of agents, able to serve a vast international clientele. With the pandemic behind us 2022 promises to be the best year for the group through merger and aquisitions and expansion, the emphasis will be on customer service, technology and affordable housing. This month will see the merger of his business brokerage side of his operation with the Lake Mary based UBC Mergers and Aquisitions
which will give Jupiter Properties Inc. access to UBC’s global presence and technology. The key for the smaller brokerages to survive is the accessibility to expensive lead programs. Currently they are jointly working on a $29 million project in South Florida. Khalid also serves as the VP of Business Brokers Association of Florida and this will give UBC greater exposure for their projects. Jupiter Properties Inc. has been very active in the area of affordable housing. Khalid says: “Every official event that I attend on affordable housing is always about acknowledging the problem but few solutions. Right now, we are experiencing the worst scenario regarding affordable housing in Central Florida, with only 17 affordable home units available for every 100 required and getting worse with the rents rising rapidly.” Khalid and his team are looking into solutions for this problem. Last year Khalid helped to forge a joint partnership between local builders Home constructors LLC and a Turkish based company, manufacturing the solar roofing panels and other building materials in Turkey to lower construction costs. Their current affordable housing projects are in Poinciana and Debary. The restructuring of the group will also see the residential side of the business headed by his co-broker Ivan Aldea, focusing more on the luxury residential communities sales, as their office is strategically located in the Metro West area with close proximity to Windermere and Dr Philips. This will also result in shifting the commercial side of the business to its subsidiary, Urbanvest Realty corp with its concentration on commercial land acquisitions. The major restructuring will position the group to adopt a more specialized customer-focused service and to meet the ambitious revenue growth targets for the next five years. “We are lucky to be living in Central Florida with its growth pattern and the timing could not be better to take advantage of the business opportunities available in the hidden gem of not only Florida but the whole USA,” says Khalid.

Dilek H. Rea Something New Bridal Boutique Dilek Rea has quietly been the owner of the preeminent place to go for almost a decade to find “The Dress” but also an unmatched experience. Something New Bridal Boutique hidden in Winter Park on the cozy cobblestoned New England Avenue is where a bride will have the stunning store all to herself. It is also where she is inspired to design the dresses that she sources and manufactures in Europe. Along the way hearing a “No” or “It’s Impossible” motivated the growth of her humble business from just being a boutique to now spanning a successful brand, design, production, distribution, and retail sales across America. That is key to her customer’s peace of mind with their purchase in a changing economy. When so many businesses struggle with inventory shortages and delivery delays, Something New is striving. A simple search will showcase her team’s year-after-year industry awards, thanks to their loyal following. Both the boutique and the brand have been the biggest little secret in Central Florida that brides whisper about to all their friends and family. Her motto of one of a kind dresses and one-at-a-time brides is one of the reasons for the referrals. There are no mother of the brides dresses
and no bridesmaid dresses ,only the freshest selection of wedding dresses to keep the focus on the brides to be. No one every feels rushed, neglected, or inferior. Instead, they should feel confident, not just in their purchase but themselves. This approach of a happy and confident woman can be found from start to finish not just with the brides who visit, but with the team, community and charities she supports. “Every woman can be what she wants to be and that applies to every bride that walks into our lives.” That mindset is the driving force behind every business decision Dilek makes. It is rooted in her loving and supporting family which are a big reason for this happy and confident mentality. Dilek firmly believes family being together is so important, especially today, and the essence of the wedding day. Dilek was raised around a 40 year plus family owned retail and bridal business and as she grew up she decided to take the lead. She graduated from Florida State University where she double majored in Apparel Design & Technology and Clothing Textile. “I am truly blessed to be surrounded with family and fashion.”

In 2008, Husby took a leap of faith to start his own dealership with partners Marc Hooker and Bob Secrist. Known from the outset as the “hometown dealer,” Regal and Nautique of Orlando focuses on the two global brands which comprise its name, both of which are based and built in Orlando. Today, RNO also represents Moomba, Supreme and South Bay pontoons. From first year sales of $5M to its 2021 record-setting revenue of $40+M supported by a high-performance team of 26, Husby and his dealership continue to raise the bar.
Under his leadership, RNO has emerged as a world class organization, earning impressive accolades. Most recently, RNO was named the #2 ranked dealer in North America in the Boating Industry Top 100. It consistently wins top global brand recognition for sales and service, coupled with a 2x designation as the nation’s #1 Best in Class Service Department named by Boating Industry magazine. In 2019, RNO won “Dealership of the Year” by the Water Sports Industry Association. For three consecutive years, it is counted among the “Top 10 Great Dealerships to Work for in North America” by the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas. RNO is distinguished as the only dealership in Florida to earn the National Marine Manufacturers of America CSI Award in both sales and service for Regal and Nautique. Husby himself was feted as a finalist in the Boating Industry BOLD MOVES roster which spotlights top marine industry leaders making a significant impact. And while some might drop anchor to bask in the wave of success, Husby doesn’t rest at idle. He’s cruising forward in major expansion mode including the construction of a state-of-the-art Nautique showroom in downtown Orlando, while also serving as president of the local marine trade association and juggling duties as President/ CEO for WaterSports Central, a six-location dealership group in Georgia and South Carolina.

Joseph Cioffi Director of Marketing & Communications Joseph Cioffi joined Foundation Academy in 2015. His prior work experience included the Walt Disney Company and his own private business, during which he developed original concepts for NFLPA. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joe attended Penn State and Edinboro Universities to pursue his BFA. Joe has a passion for the development of kids and found that Christian education blended his passion and interests into one business. In 2017, he undertook efforts to refine the branding elements of Foundation Academy, creating standards that suited the culture and the market. The collective efforts of both the Admission and Development offices established and implemented strategies that were true to their mission to build a foundation for life for their students. Along with a talented team, Joe helped spearhead changing their digital footprints, such as the schoolwide website and other online content. Foundation Academy has changed over the past six years, growing from 555 students at two campuses to

today approaching 1100 for the 2022-23 school year at Plant St. and Tilden Campuses in Winter Garden and their newest campus, Lakeside, in Orlando. Joe credits the growth of Foundation Academy to the culture cultivated by President Dave Buckles and Vice-President of Education Carol Grosshans. Joe believes that developing a marketing strategy and implementing a plan that keeps its brand promises, truly understands its mission, and works together is a more straightforward proposition than an organization unsure of itself. The future for Foundation is bright. Foundation is opening a new educational addition at Tilden in March, with other expansions planned. In partnership with Family Church, Lakeside is also building to accommodate growth for the church and the school. Joe hopes to continue developing the FA brand into one in top-of-the-mind status for families seeking a first-class education where Christ is at the center.

Geraldine F. Thompson Florida House of Representatives District 44 Representative Geraldine F. Thompson is a member of the Florida Legislature who served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 until 2012 when she was elected to the Florida Senate where she served from 2012 until 2016. She returned to the Florida House in 2018. As a Senator in 2014, Rep. Thompson filed legislation to clear the names of men known as the Groveland Four. Her actions led to an apology from the Florida Legislature in 2017 for the racial injustice suffered by the Groveland Four and in 2019 a pardon from the Florida Cabinet. Thompson continued to push for exoneration. She viewed a pardon as something given to someone who is guilty and the men were innocent. In November of 2021, a judge in the Fifth Judicial Circuit accepted a motion to dismiss the indictments and sentences against the Groveland Four. After the exoneration, Thompson and family members of the Groveland Four scooped sand into jars from the spot where Samuel Shepherd, one of the Groveland Four, was killed. The jars were sent to the Equal Justice Initiative Museum in Montgomery, Alabama founded by Bryan Stevenson and the Wells'Built Museum which Geraldine F. Thompson founded in 2001. Thompson passed a bill to allow any Floridian to vote by mail which ended the former absentee ballot voting process. She has brought more than $800,000 to help the town of Oakland to move from septic tanks to a sanitary sewer system. Prior to her service in the Legislature, Rep. Thompson served as an administrator at Valencia College. Her husband, the Honorable Emerson R. Thompson, Jr., served on the Orange County Court, the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court where he was Chief Judge and the Fifth District Court of Appeal where he was Chief Judge. They have three children and four granddaughters.

EYE DOCTORS OF THE YEAR
Ly T Nguyen, MD Cataract Surgeon at Eye Florida Patients who visit Dr. Ly Nguyen’s office say she is a wonderful doctor; some say she is one of the most skilled ophthalmologist serving the Kissimmee and Saint Cloud communities. She smiles warmly when her patients tell her that she is a caring person who takes the time to listen and get to know them personally. Dr Nguyen says “I have seen tens of thousands of cases but each patient's life story is unique, and I can still remember the details of most of my patients.” Reflecting on her life, many signs point to her path in the field of ophthalmology. Growing up in the countryside in Vietnam, she developed night blindness due to malnutrition. While she was still in college at Brown University, her father developed early cataracts due to the harsh sun as a fisherman. These personal experiences shaped Dr. Nguyen’s passion and mission in helping her patients see better. As a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Nguyen specializes in cataract, oculoplastic, and minimally-invasive glaucoma surgeries. She brings extensive surgical expertise and a warm Aloha spirit to her practice at Eye Florida through her residency training at the University of Hawai’s School of Medicine and Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute at University of Colorado. Her number one goal is to deliver exceptional and personalized eye care for the whole family. When she is not operating or running her private practice, Dr. Nguyen enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, reading, and exploring historical sites. She dedicates her time to giving back to the community. She contributes as the current Chief of Surgery and previous member of the Board of Trustee for Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. She is a co-founding member of the An Bang Professionals, a non-profit organization committed to providing financial assistance to promising high school graduates and underserved communities in the United States and aboard. She shares her time and knowledge to aspire the next generation of young professionals through mentorship programs. Several of her mentees have gone on to pursue careers in medicine and ophthalmology. Photo by Kimberly Jefcoat
When asked to share some memorable cases in her career, Dr. Nguyen spoke about a case of a young mother who was legally blind due to mature cataracts and insurance delays. By the time this young mother was referred to Dr. Nguyen, many had feared that her sight was permanently lost. Dr. Nguyen performed the cataract surgery and soon after, the mother was able to see! During her follow-up visit with Dr. Nguyen, she was overjoyed with tears that she could now see her young son’s face and watch him grow up. “We often take our gift of sight for granted and experiences like these inspires me to make a difference in my patient’s life” says Dr. Nguyen.

Chirag J. Patel, MD FACS Lake Nona Ophthlamology With roots in the small central Florida town of Fruitland Park, Chirag J. As a first-generation Indian-American, he learned life’s most important lessons from his parents, who operated a local business in the small town. The ability to help people and develop long-lasting relationships was a strong impetus for Chirag’s pursuit of medicine. After graduating as the Valedictorian of his high school, Dr. Patel attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate and medical degrees. He then completed an internship in Internal medicine at Richmond University Medical Center and a three-year residency in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Patel then decided to purse an additional year of Fellowship training in Medical Retina and Research at the University of Florida – Jacksonville.
