DINING Delicious Cooking!
THE HEALTHY JEWISH KITCHEN Too often, Jewish cookbooks still feature many recipes that lack whole grains and include too much salt, fat, sugar, and processed foods. But Paula Shoyer’s delicious take on Jewish cooking is different: she uses only natural ingredients and offers a fresh, nutrient-dense spin on every dish. Here you’ll find very little frying, and no margarine, frozen puff pastry, soup stocks and powders, and most jarred sauces. More than 60 recipes include both Sephardic and Ashkenazy Jewish classics, as well as American and international dishes that extend beyond the Jewish culinary world. In Shoyer’s words: “This book has food you’ll recognize, because you still want to feel connected to your ancestors’ kitchens, but I’ve made it more nutritious and often easier to make. $18 / Available at Barnesandnoble.com

DATE NIGHT ON ANOTHER LEVEL! Conduct your own date night with Orlando’s Sunrail Looking for a perfect date night or happy hour place to spend it with someone special? We have a idea for you and its on a whole other level. I’m sure you have seen or heard of the Sunrail here in Orlando. Whether you’ve rode it yourself or have had to stop in traffic to let it go by, the Sunrail can be more than just a train taking people to and from work. The Sunrial has many stations and stops but the ones we want to focus on are the ones with all the nice and delicious restaurants. You can start off anywhere really, but typically you would want to start at Downtown or Park Ave. Downtown has many options to choose from that are walking distance from the station, such as Kres Chophouse — a fancy, delicious steakhouse, El Buda — a Latin,
Asian cuisine, Harry Buffalo’s — an more casual bar but with great American food! The next stop is Winter Park. Once you’re off the train you’ll be right in front of Park Ave. There, the dinner choices are endless. Bosphorous — an exquisite Turkish place serving kebabs, falafel & lamb dishes. This place will not disappoint. Luma on Park — a high-end hot spot bringing together a modern aesthetic & a seasonal New American menu. There are also dessert places to go and try out too! You don’t have to stop there! You can stop at Ivanhoe village or Lake Mary and let the night (and train) take you wherever you want date night to go!

THE PERRY HOTEL A Destination Within a Destination By Dana Damato

LOCATED JUST A SHORT DRIVE FROM THE WORLD FAMOUS DUVAL STREET, STOCK ISLAND IS HOME TO A BOATHOUSE CHIC BOUTIQUE HOTEL.
I’m a born and raised Florida girl. Being
in a tropical climate, feeling the ocean’s breeze whip through my hair and catching a few waves on my surfboard is something that has been instilled in my day-to-day life. I live for it, I love it and I couldn’t imagine living somewhere that isn’t within a 30-minute drive from the ocean. One of my favorite things about Florida’s beaches is that they are all unique in their own way. More specifically, the Florida Keys is a paradise of its own. Each Key is a little different from the other, but they all have a mystique. Key West is, by far, one of the most popular, but sometimes the hustle and bustle of Duval Street can be overwhelming. For locals and visitors
who want to get away from it all with that Key West vibe and all the same outdoor activities, I know just the spot for you. Located just a short drive from the world famous Duval Street, Stock Island is home to a boathouse chic boutique hotel, The Perry Hotel Key West, which represents the iconic industrial maritime heritage from which Stock Island has developed. Steeped in Key West’s local roots and its tradition of working waterfronts, fishing fleets and marinas, the property’s interior design blends sharp, rugged elements with warm, ocean-inspired touches, evoking the story of fishermen who once sought refuge in Safe Harbour. The 100-room boutique hotel features
hand-crafted art made by local artists, a pool deck that overlooks the waterfront, and guest rooms with spacious, private balconies and expansive ocean views. Stock Island Marina Village is a private marina located just a quick drive away from Key West. The marina consists of 220 slips making it the largest deep-water marina in the Florida Keys, with the ability to accommodate vessels up to 300 feet in length. The working waterfront for shrimpers and fisherman that earned its name from the livestock that were kept there in an era long ago, Stock Island has been quietly flying under the radar as a vacation destination, but not anymore!

LET ME BEGIN BY SAYING THAT THE CUISINE AT THE PERRY IS UNPARALLELED, FEATURING TWO ‘BOAT-TO-TABLE’ RESTAURANT CONCEPTS.
As soon as I stepped foot into The Perry Hotel Key West at Stock Island Marina, I knew there were big plans for this location with its emerging arts and culinary scene. I could tell this property had a specific appeal to the sophisticated and discerning traveler. The property pays homage to Key West’s maritime and fishing heritage with an edgy, modern design, direct marina access and “boat-to-table” experiential restaurant concepts. A lush outdoor pool area and guest rooms that feature expansive balconies with waterfront views, some even with outdoor showers, are among the touches that set The Perry Hotel apart, making it an ideal home base for boating, diving and fishing enthusiasts looking to experience the natural beauty of the Florida Keys in style. Let me begin by saying that the cuisine at The Perry is unparalleled. Featuring two ‘boat-to-table’ restaurant concepts, they both utilize the freshest produce, highestquality meats and local seafood to showcase classic Key West recipes with a unique twist that can only be found at the property. With a laidback atmosphere that evokes long summer days spent out on the water, the staff is focused on supporting local sources and exceptional guest service. The Perry Hotel sets the bar for waterfront dining in the foodcentric Florida Keys. Let me tell you about Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen and Bar – it is incredible. Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen and Bar is a true standout in the Florida Keys. The restaurant offers a laid-back atmosphere and culinary experience that

keeps guests coming every night – there’s no reason to ever leave the property! This full-service restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, with a focus on local must-haves such as stone crab, snapper and Key West pink shrimp. Guests can dine inside or outdoors with unobstructed views of the picturesque waterfront, extraordinary yachts and boats gliding in and out of the marina. The restaurant also features a communal chef ’s table where guests can chat with locals and visitors alike. For a taste of local comfort food, guests can’t miss Chef Ryan’s famous fried chicken and crab beignets. If you’re looking for a bite out by the pool and the dock, The Perry Hotel’s outdoor restaurant, Salty Oyster Dockside Bar and Grill, is the place to go. Remember that feeling of salt on your skin after days where you spent hours playing in the ocean as a kid? Salty Oyster offers casual fare in a comfortable and marina-chic atmosphere. Whether lounging poolside or admiring the sunset from the dock, guests can enjoy fresh-caught seafood, burgers and of course, oysters, while soaking up the sun with an ice-cold cocktail in hand. Stop on by for lunch or dinner daily! There’s no doubt that Florida is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. However, when it comes down to the culture of the Keys mixed with a boathouse elegance (that just can’t be found anywhere else) there’s no better place then the Perry Hotel Key West. To learn more information about the Perry Hotel and book your stay, please visit ThePerryKeyWest.com, or give them a call at 305-296-1717. See you at the marina!

JETSON LIVING It’s the era of the smart home By Yngrid Lindores
Converting a home into a smart home is all about maximizing the function of your home; this means extra convenience without sacrificing style. Practically everything in a house, from ceiling fans, thermostats, lights and garage doors, can be connected to wifi and controlled via mobile devices or smart speakers. Setting up a smart home only seems like a daunting task best left to the most tech-savvy of people; it is in reality quite straight forward and simple. The first step is to acquire a home hub, which is the central device that connects all other gadgets in a home, thus central to controlling the communications among them. There are many reliable hubs out on the market such as Google’s Home, Amazon’s Echo or the Apple HomePod, which are essential for a smart home. Certainly each home owner has a vision for their home, so it’s important to choose

a system that will fit the bill. It’s important for home owners to sort their priorities. In fact, some may find it helpful to go from room to room and consider what would be most convenient. Voicecontrolled assistants like Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and Google’s Assistant allow people to navigate smart home gadgets by saying commands like, “Alexa, turn on the ceiling fan.” For some issuing voice commands might be easier, while some may prefer using app-based controls on a phone. Home owners won’t have to choose between function and style, since modern smart home features are now not only functional but also inherently sleek and refined. In fact smart home products are only getting more sleek and inconspicuous with time.

When Daisy Award-winning nurse Diane
Gillin left her career in facial plastic surgery to open a spa in Winter Park, she only had one goal in mind. Simply put, Diane wanted to share her passion for the medical aesthetics industry and open doors that were previously unattainable for the middle class by providing affordable treatments without sacrificing topof-the-line quality service.
“My business partner Eric and I had this idea of having a low-cost membership model so that our services weren’t just an upper class treatment. We came up with this idea of Couture Med Spa and started with our slogan: Where Luxury Meets Affordability.” -Diane Gillin, ARNP Diane Gillin, ARNP
Four years later, Diane’s vision has experienced tremendous growth and now she owns and operates three successful locations in Winter Park, Oviedo and Ocoee. As a customer of Couture Med Spa, I speak with confidence when I say that their high-quality luxury services at an affordable cost have completely set them apart from their competition. They even offer a first-of-its-kind membership model that includes complete access to treatments at prices that no one else in the industry is doing. From lasers and fillers to injectables and more, Couture Med Spa makes the cost a fraction of what they normally are without sacrificing the highest regard for personal safety, great customer service and the latest technology on the market. Through my own experience receiving Laser Hair Removal treatments at their facilities, I’m in awe at the lengths their skilled and highly-trained providers go to in order to ensure guests are not getting a lesser service or lesser quality treatment.

Couture Med Spa offers two different membership options with the most popular one being the Black Diamond membership. After learning all the services this membership includes, it wasn’t hard for me to understand why 90% of Couture Med Spa clients have taken advantage of this unbeatable deal. The Black Diamond membership is irresistibly priced at $149 a month and only requires a year-long commitment with no sign-up fee. The membership includes a Couture facial, fat burning treatments, laser hair removal, tattoo removal, IPL treatments, leg vein removal, and a range other services every month!
“A place I used to work at prior to here would charge $1,100 just for one fractional treatment! A lot of people think that our Black Diamond membership only includes one of those services per month and that you have to pick which one. When they find out that the price includes all of those services per month, they are typically blown away by it.” --Diane Gillin, ARNP Even the Platinum membership option is jaw-dropping at just $99 a month with a one time sign up fee of $149. Included in that membership are IPL treatments, fractional treatments and exclusive discounts on a wide variety of other services. I’ve encountered many spas that won’t give pricing without an in-person consultation, but Couture Med Spa prides themselves on being as open and transparent as possible with no gimmicks. Their prices are on their advertisements, on their website, and they’ll happily give them over the phone. As with any deal that sounds too good to be true, seeing is believing so I suggest coming in for a complimentary consultation where you’ll receive a free skin analysis test and get a friendly tour of the gorgeous facilities. With a calm, relaxing environment and skilled service providers that work exclusively with the latest equipment—why go anywhere else? As with countless other guests that have walked through their doors, it only took one visit for me to decide there was no other spa I’d rather go to than Couture Med Spa and the statistics speak for themselves. Couture Med Spa provides more FDA-approved injections for fillers and Botox than 97% of the nation. How spoiled are we to have not one, not two, but three gorgeous locations right here in the heart of Central Florida? “We just had our one year anniversary in Ocoee and Oviedo has been opened for about eight months so this has been great! Now we’re looking into other locations as well as starting to research the franchising process as our goal is to start franchising in the next year.” -Diane Gillin, ARNP The future is big, bright and beautiful for Couture Med Spa and this is only the beginning! Be sure to visit www. CoutureMedSpa.com to learn more.

THE “DESIGNER NIPPLE”
The newest plastic surgery trend women are getting
Move over boob job, the nips are taking over! I’m sure many of you have heard of the popular hashtag #freethenipple and it would make sense since many celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Rihanna, Bella Hadid and more have been rocking the braless trend and posting it all over Instagram. And now, it is catching on... Since then, many ladies have been meeting with plastic surgeons and going under the knife for a nipple enhancement. In this procedure women wish to change the shape, firmness, and color of their nipples so that they can have the “perfect nipple” or as some surgeons call them, “designer” nipples. Many women want to be able to have their nipples show through their shirt and some feel like they just don’t have the “right” nipples. Many women will bring in photos of celebs where their nipple isn’t showing but you can see the pointy-ness of them through a shirt. Some women claim that having them peep through makes them feel more feminine and sexy.
So if you’re looking for some permanent head lights here are some of the options. Ladies can get surgery were surgeons will usually use fillers to help patients get their dream nipples, and they last about two years. And if maybe if you wanted something less invasive you can get botox which only last about three to four months and none of these procedures takes longer than 30 minutes and can be performed on any type of nipple included inverted ones. However like all things in life, there are risks. Nipples are very sensitive, they are filled with nerve endings for sensation and milk ducts for breast feeding. And getting fillers injected may damage these structures. It is important that you talk to your doctor before undergoing any cosmetic surgery. If all of that freaks you out, not to worry, there is a much more affordable and less painful way to get the nipple of your dreams. You can buy pasties online that have already a “stiff nip” and you can get the “cold” or “freezing” option.

CELEBRITY SOUP
From the 12 years between Jay-Z and Beyoncé to the 17 years between
George and Amal Clooney, these adorable duos prove that age really is just a number. Keep reading to see which of your favorite celebrity couples have found their match in partners with an age gap of 10 years and more.
10+ YEARS Jay-Z and Beyoncé: 12 years
Beyoncé, 36, and Jay-Z, 48, started dating in 2001 and said “I do” seven years later on April 4, 2008. Their first child, Blue Ivy Carter, was born in 2012 and the couple welcomed twins, Rumi and Sir, five years later in June 2017.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Camila Morrone: 23 years
The 43-year-old Oscar winner has been dating model Camila Morrone since December 2017 after they met at an event in Florida. This month, Leonardo will finally be able to share a toast with his girlfriend as she will be celebrating her 21st birthday on June 16th.
25+ YEARS
Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee-Furness: 13 years
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones: 25 years
The 49-year-old X-Men star and his 62-year-old wife have been together for more than 20 years. They met on the 1995 set of the Australian show Correlli when Hugh was only 27 and Deborra was 40. They married the following year in 1996 and eventually adopted 2 children after struggling to conceive on their own.
Amazingly Catherine Zeta-Jones, 48, and Michael Douglas, 73, share the same birthday! The two were introduced at the Deauville Film Festival in 1998 and married two years later in November 2000. Though the couple briefly separated in 2013, they have since reunited and share two children together.
15+ YEARS
Dane Cook and Kelsi Taylor: 26 years
Amal and George Clooney: 17 years
George Clooney, 57, met international human-rights lawyer Amal, 40, in 2013 while attending a mutual friend’s dinner party. People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” broke hearts across the world when he and Amal tied the knot in Italy in 2014. The couple welcomed twins, Ella and Alexander, in June 2017. Olivier Sarkozy and Mary-Kate Olsen: 17 years
French banker Olivier Sarkozy, 49, and Full House star Mary-Kate Olsen, 31, were engaged in 2014 after dating for two years. The reclusive and private couple were married in a small ceremony in 2015 and have since remained hidden from the public eye.
20+ YEARS Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart: 22 years
Calista Flockhart, 53, met Harrison Ford, 75, in 2002 after spilling a drink on him at a Golden Globe Awards party. They married in 2010 and the father of four welcomed Calista’s adopted son Liam into his family with open arms.
Unlike Leonardo, 46-year-old comedian Dane Cook still has a couple years before he can grab a drink with his 19-year-old girlfriend. The couple have been dating since 2017 and even flew to Hawaii for a romantic vacation earlier this year.
30+ YEARS Emilie Livingston and Jeff Goldblum: 31 years
Jurassic Park’s Jeff Goldblum, 65, and gymnast Emilie Livingston, 35, were married in 2014 and have since had two sons together. Their youngest joined the family in April 2017 and recently celebrated his first birthday. Patrick Stewart and Sunny Ozell: 38 years
After dating for roughly five years, 77-year-old Patrick Stewart and jazz singer Ozell, 39, finally tied the knot in 2013. The couple met when Patrick was performing in Macbeth at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

DON’T MISS THE BEAT
Music Icon Kanye West Blazes a New Trail Through America’s Cultural Frontier By Courtney Caggiano
Innovator, entrepreneur and trendsetter Kanye West has always considered himself an artist. For the past decade, West has conquered various fields of artistry with an ability to project his vision beyond the natural expectations of the day, testifying to his belief that art is born with the purpose of progression. “New ideas are an artist’s greatest gift,” West has said. This selfproclaimed champion of progress now seeks to master a new form of art as he sets out for uncharted territory: the political landscape of America. A pioneer ahead of his time, West has reintroduced himself to the world as an artist seeking to expand America’s horizons of creativity in the coming era. In April, West returned to Twitter to millions of fans eager to hear about the rapper’s latest artistic venture, although the succession of tweets that followed proved that, as usual, ‘Ye was about to shatter preconceptions. West greeted the internet on April 21 with a simple statement: “I love the way Candace Owens thinks.” West’s mention of Owens, an African-American, right-leaning conservative personality, had Twitter users confused about West’s beliefs, and wondering if they ever knew West at all.
Continuing to speak his mind, West then posted, “You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone.”
say—he is provoking citizens of the free world to discuss their mindsets to learn from one another and progress into a state of consciousness in which people are comfortable speaking their mind.
West’s confession of his acceptance for the current president stung many of the musician’s fans and A-list peers, including John Legend, who encouraged West to “reconsider” his standpoint, while a myriad of online voices dubbed West as crazy or brainwashed.
West is definitely a firm believer in the diversity of free thinkers. After stepping outside of the medium of music, West has transformed the fashion industry with the minimalist vibe of his Yeezy clothing line. In 2015, West premiered the first season of Yeezy, in collaboration with Adidas, which played a vital role in refocusing the fashion climate to one of body-conscious pieces grounded in avant-garde simplicity.
West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, rushed to her husbands defense, dismissing the accusations of insanity and emphasizing the fact that the public often draws connections between free thinking and mental instability. To further Kardashian’s somewhat philosophical realization, the backlash of West’s free-fall of social commentary has filled the air with necessary political discussion concerning an individual’s right to an unpopular opinion. Perhaps that is West’s goal in expressing his political beliefs: to get people talking. For the man who said, “new ideas are an artist’s greatest gift,” Kanye the artist certainly might do anything to bring his audiences to the forefront of new ideas. Maybe the focus of West’s tweets should not be what he is saying but what he is getting us to
As he continues producing his own musical work, West has made it very clear that he will be including his polarizing opinions in his songwriting. Soon after the infamous tweets, West announced that his latest album would be titled, Love Everyone, harkening back to West’s desire to reshape America’s volatile political spectrum into an environment of love, kindness, and growth through acceptance and understanding. And, with Kanye’s incomparable record of setting trends, his plea for America to “love everyone” might just stick around—and it may very well start the movement he’s looking for.
A PIONEER AHEAD OF HIS TIME, WEST HAS REINTRODUCED HIMSELF TO THE WORLD AS AN ARTIST SEEKING TO EXPAND AMERICA’S HORIZONS OF CREATIVITY IN THE COMING ERA.

WHAT NOT TO WEAR HEELS WITH 6 fashion tips to help you not look like a hot mess Ladies, flats are great and all, but we love wearing our heels. But are you wearing them the right way? Behold, six heel outfits you should think twice about. 1. Denim shorts with stilettos
Doesn’t matter how good your legs look, denim shorts with heels aren’t a classy look. Wearing a sneaker is preferred or some wedges if you must have height. 2. Mini skirt with platform pumps
Pumps can easily give you six inches of height, and wearing a mini skirt with it can lead to an ankle disaster (and you may flash someone) and you will look and feel dumb. 3. Leggings/sweatpants with any heels

4. Any kind of heels you can’t walk in
This seems so straight forward, but you will be surprised how many women make this mistake. Doesn’t matter how cute it is, if it’s too tight or too big, do not wear them. You want to avoid looking like a newborn deer. 5. Sandals with a pencil skirt
This isn’t heel related, but it’s a problem that must be addressed. Wearing a sandal or flip flop with a pencil skirt is probably worse than what has been mentioned above. It does not match. Flats or closed toe shoes are A-okay. Save the flip flops for the house or beach. 6. Socks with heels
Do we really need to explain...
If you look like your going to the gym your shoes should match. This look was trying to be a trend but... no, just no.
PURSE OR BACKPACK? to pair with your gown A lot of busy women are making the switch from their purse to a backpack. I know to some the image of themselves when they were in college pop up, but there are actually really cute, elegant backpacks that wont make you look like you’re going to class. Purses are cute, yes, but sometimes a purse just isn’t convenient for us women. A backpack is actually better for our backs for they distribute the weight evenly, unlike a purse, where it pushes down on our shoulders. And if you need snacks, if you work out, or have long days or nights, a backpack may make you life a little easier.

INTERMITTENT FASTING FOR HEALTH? By Mary Martin Armstrong
Tired of cutting out this and that, making yourself miserable only to see little to no change to your weight? If this is a frustration you are familiar with, you might be interested in intermittent fasting. This newly popularized method of weight loss is scientifically proven to help you lose weight without eliminating your favorite types of food. Intermittent fasting allows dieters to eat what they want, however, they must do this only during a specific time window. Intermittent fasting actually has several health benefits, as it results in the loss of visceral fat. Visceral fat is connected to the development of chronic diseases, and studies have shown that the reduction of this can assist with the prevention of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. Many different types of intermittent fasting have been developed and tested, so it is easy to find one that adapts to you and your lifestyle. Some of the more popular forms are listed below. 16/8 Method: The 16/8 method, also referred to as leangains, is arguably the easiest 60
| ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM
type of intermittent fasting to transition into. This method involves restricting your food consumption to eight hours a day and fasting for the remaining sixteen. Most people prefer to fast throughout the night and into the next morning. 5/2 Method: The 5/2 Method is the most popular and widely recognized form of intermittent fasting. This method was developed by Dr. Michael Mosley and requires dieters to fast for two nonconsecutive days a week. Women are allowed 500 calories during fasting days and men are allowed 600 calories. During these fasting days, your calorie intake should consist of meals that are high in fiber and protein in order to help you feel full. You should eat normal meals and consume a normal amount of calories on non-fasting days. The Every Other Day Diet: The Every Other Day Diet is one of the more challenging, as requires dieters to consume 500 calories a day, every other day of the week. Like the 5/2 method, normal meals with a normal calorie intake should be consumed during non-fasting days. Make sure to avoid binge
eating on these days to make up for the fasting days, as this is an easy pattern to fall into and can hinder weight loss. This method requires a large amount of discipline; however, it will also yield more dramatic results. 24 Hour Fast: This method involves fasting entirely for twenty four hours at a time, once or twice a week. It is important to recognize that unlike the other forms of intermittent fasting, no 500 or 600 calorie allowance is permitted. You should eat normal meals throughout the rest of the week. Like the Every Other Day Diet, this is one of the more difficult fasts to maintain and requires a great deal of self-control. Tip: Try drinking coffee or tea during fasting periods in order to combat hunger. Be sure to drink lots of water as well! Always check with your physician before starting a new diet.

The glare of bright lights can be painful. • DOUBLE TROUBLE Lens clouding in a cataract can lead you to see two or more images of a single object. • HALOS The clouding of the lens can result in diffraction of light entering your eye. This can cause a halo to appear around light sources, or rings around every light. If you have any of these symptoms, go see your eye doctor.

A BEER A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY? Health Benefits Of Drinking A Cold One! We have heard stories and read articles about how having a glass of red wine a couple days a week (or everyday) is good for most people because some red wine has the ability to improve cholesterol, fight free radical damage, help manage diabetes, etc., but what about beer? It may come as a surprise to some, but beer has quite a few health benefits that we should know about. Beer is an alcoholic beverage brewed from cereal grains which are responsible for its nutritional values. Hops (which is typically used to make IPA’s, Pale Ales and others) are the female flower of the hop plant, which gives some beer its tangy, bitter taste. The green buds are filled with chemicals known as bitter acids. Bitter acids are powerful inflammation fighters and helps both prevent and treating viral respiratory infections. Bitter acids may also improve digestion. Certain types of beer trigger the release of gastric acid from stomach cells which is key for both digesting food and controlling the growth of dangerous gut bacteria. Researchers found that the more bitter
acids a beer has, the greater the response. Beer is a great source of silicon, which is important for building and maintaining healthy bones. The mineral found in beer helps increase bone density, thereby preventing the risk of fractures and osteoporosis. Beer also helps polish your teeth. The bacteria that lives in our mouths and causes tooth decay and gum disease, research showed that beer helped block the activity of bad bacteria. It even beat out black tea, raspberry and all other plant extracts that were tested in this study. As you can see, having a beer has more benefit to our bodies than just having a good time. So kick back, grab a cold one and lose the guilt over your nightly ale! Please drink responsibly and always ask your doctor if you are able to drink alcohol.

BILL COSBY’S CONVICTION & WHY WERE THERE TWO TRIALS?

Bill Cosby originally went to trial almost a year ago, however, he was not convicted. The trial ended in what is called a “hung jury”, which means that the jurors could not agree on a verdict. Some people asked why a second trial was allowed in light of the Double Jeopardy Clause of the United States Constitution. That clause provides that a person cannot be put on trial and punished for the same crime twice. Cosby was put on trial a second time after the first trial ended with a hung jury. In a case, the guilt of the defendant must be proven by the prosecution beyond a reasonable doubt. In federal court, a jury of twelve people is required for a felony. In state courts, six or twelve jurors are required depending on the state and the crime. Whether there are six or twelve jurors, the defendant cannot be convicted unless all jurors agree that the prosecution has proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Ultimately, each juror must decide whether the defendant was proven guilty. While the jurors deliberate with each other in an effort to reach a verdict, it is each juror’s constitutional duty to make up his or her own mind. The law provides that if a jury cannot reach a unanimous decision, the prosecution may retry the case. At a retrial, the prosecution and defense are not limited to the same witnesses that were used in the first trial. In the Cosby second trial, the prosecution called five new witnesses who claimed that they were also sexually abused. These witnesses apparently had a significant impact on the jury as reflected by the guilty verdicts. A second trial gives the prosecution the benefit of changing its presentation by adding or deleting witnesses. In addition, the prosecution is able to restructure its arguments and develop additional evidence. While the defense is also able to call new witnesses and change its strategy, ultimately, the prosecution usually benefits the most from a retrial. At the conclusion of the second trial, Cosby’s attorneys announced that they would appeal. An appeal is available to every defendant who is convicted whether
in state or federal court. In Florida, a defendant has the right to appeal to the District Court of Appeals. There are five District Courts of Appeals. Appeals from convictions in Orange, Seminole, Brevard, Volusia and Osceola counties are taken to the Fifth District Court of Appeals. A defendant convicted in a federal court in Florida appeals to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, which is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. If an appeal results in the conviction being affirmed, a defendant has no right to an automatic appeal to the Supreme Court of the State of Florida except in death penalty cases. Likewise, in a federal appeal a defendant has no right to have the Supreme Court of the United States consider the appeal. A defendant whose Florida conviction was initially affirmed may ask the Supreme Court of the State of Florida to consider the case. In federal court, a defendant can request the Supreme Court of the United States to consider the decision of the Circuit Courts of Appeals. A small number of cases are actually considered by the Florida or United States Supreme Courts. For example, the Supreme Court of the United States accepts 100-150 cases a year out of over 7,000 requests. Only a small number of the 100-150 appeals accepted for review by the Supreme Court of the United States are appeals by defendants in criminal cases. An appeal is not a trial. The appellate court reviews what happened in the trial based upon a review of the record. No new testimony or evidence is considered at the appeal. The number of appeals that result in convictions being overturned is quite small. In Mr. Cosby’s case, his lawyers will analyze the trial and determine what legal issues should be brought to the appellate court’s attention. As an example, the appeal in Cosby’s case may include an argument that the trial judge should not have allowed the jury to hear the testimony of the five women who testified as to Mr. Cosby’s sexual assaults. While Mr. Cosby may be successful in his appeal, the statistics as to reversals are against him as they are for any defendant in a criminal case.

DAWOOD BEDROSIAN Today, Dawood is the Director of Sales & Marketing for 3 world class RE/MAX Town Centre offices in Florida. His International division markets over 1500 condominiums, town homes and single family homes for some of the largest developers in Florida. In addition, he has served as a Board Member of several subdivisions and directed the residential sales and marketing for local developers. He was responsible for opening new international markets across Canada, Dubai, India, Hong Kong and China, driving the sales teams to achieve outstanding results.
Dawood Bedrosian (also known as David) fell in love with Florida the first time he vacationed in Orlando to escape the Canadian winter in January 1997. He decided then and there to make Orlando home. Upon completing an Honors Degree in Business Administration at the University of Windsor, Canada, Dawood moved to Orlando and made his dream a reality. At the height of the downturn in the Florida market in 2008, Dawood was presented with an incredible opportunity to team up with a real estate developer to market Florida properties to Canadian investors. He understood that success would entail traveling to educate new clients on the spectacular opportunities that existed in Orlando. Additionally, he set himself apart by providing a full-service concierge turnkey solution for all foreign investors needs based on integrity and in-depth knowledge of the business. His specialty covers all facets of real estate including luxury resale properties (condos, homes, estates, and townhouses), ground-up new developments/conversion sales and marketing, site acquisitions, investment sales to assisting in interior design. Licensed for over nine years and fluent in English and Arabic, Dawood gained international experience with a proven track record of results in sales and numerous awards throughout his career. He now defines the cornerstone to his success as his innate passion for the business and an uncompromising level of attention to his client’s every need and at every step of the process. For Dawood, most of his client relationships have a family feel rather than simply a business transaction.
Amongst his latest endeavours has been launching a focused website (www.TheBestFloridaHomes.com) which helps domestic & international buyers find primary residences, investment, vacation/second, and retirement homes in Florida. The site’s primary initiative is to offer clients the highest professional advice and local Florida knowledge to create sterling value while aiding at every step in acquiring Florida property. Dawood also spearheads a series of investor training sessions helping domestic and International buyers purchasing Florida properties. He has presented to real estate investors across North America and is a sought out speaker for his expertise on Florida real estate. What clients have said about Dawood Bedrosian’s Service: “Mr. Bedrosian is the epitome of professionalism. Executing a solid, swift close really helped my family and I move this property forward. I would highly recommend Mr. Bedrosian and his team”. - Ralph J “Dawood was exceptional in every manner. We had no familiarity whatsoever with the Florida market, its processes or its price points as we are new to Florida. Dawood patiently and with great responsiveness took us through all the steps and explained the pros and cons of each property we
looked at until he found exactly what we were looking for and negotiated not just a great price but a total package deal. He treated us as if we were life long friends despite the fact that we never met him prior to arranging our first site visit. We have bought and sold over 10 homes over the years and Dawood is by far the best agent we have ever used”. - Steve P “We have purchased and sold several properties but without a doubt Dawood is the most professional agent I have ever worked with. He is very knowledgable of the local market and I was very comfortable knowing that I had a trusted advisor to rely on for sound advice. We will definitely be using Dawood for all future transactions”. - Giuseppe S “Dawood is very detail oriented and a true expert when it come to selling your property. He has great ideas on how to market and suggests according to the current marketing tactics. He stays on top of the offers and follows up as needed which, totally eliminates pain from you. I am very pleased with his support and efforts in selling my home”. Archana P It is my absolute pleasure to write a review of Dawood. To say Dawood was the best service provider I’ve ever dealt with wouldn’t be saying enough. As a Canadian buying in Orlando, the experience could have been daunting. With Dawood by my side, I was never unsure of every move I made. He has a wealth of experience. He referred my to notaries, banks, accountants, property managers, insurance brokers, etc... It was one stop with Dawood and I’m forever speaking his virtues and hope that everyone I speak to of him uses his phenomenal services. Its been over a year since I closed my property (which i love) with Dawood’s help and he is still in contact and ensures that everything is still okay. Do yourself a favour and call Dawood. The instant you speak with him, you will feel the difference and never look back! Thanks again, Dawood! You are truly the greatest!” - Lisa K

JENN CARLISLE Broker Associate / Weichert, Realtors Jenn Carlisle began selling real estate in the Orlando market in 2006 and quickly rose to the top 2% of all Orlando Realtors. She is a Top Ten Volume Producer in the state of Florida and a Top 100 Volume Producer in the nation for her company Weichert, Realtors. As a former high school teacher, she knows the value of education and holds many designations and certifications, including the prestigious Graduate, Realtor Institute (GRI) and the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), which is held by fewer than 2% of Realtors nationwide. She is also Relocation Certified, an Accredited Buyers Representative, a Certified Short Sale Professional and holds her Broker’s License. Coming into the industry as the market was taking a downturn, Jenn wasn’t afforded the luxury of having business handed to her and accepted the challenge of a difficult business environment. She grew her business through hosting open houses, knocking on doors and developing lasting relationships with her clients. But don’t take our word for how wonderful she is, here’s what others have said about her: “Jenn is amazing! Being first time home buyers, she helped us with every step along the way and answered every silly question we had! She was available by text, phone, and email quicker than I would expect. We appreciated everything she did for us from beginning to end.” ~ Cassie and Alex S. “Jenn was the listing agent for a property I was interested in back in 2015. My credit wasn’t high enough to purchase anything at that time, but over the years Jenn kept in touch with me. She regularly sent me listings in my area via email. By summer 2017 I was back on my feet financially and Jenn set me up with several viewings. Even with the hurricane bearing down on us right in the middle of the contract phase, Jenn kept her cool and a month later I own a home! I’d recommend Jenn to anyone searching for an experienced and savvy realtor!” ~ Mark A. “Jenn helped me sell my first house. I did not know what to expect of this process as I had never been through it before, but she helped make every step of the way much easier with thorough communication and patience. From her presentation of what selling my house would look like through her company to actual listing and professional photographs to scheduling showings to contracts/inspection/ appraisal and finally to closing, she was always there in a very organized manner. She goes above and beyond requirements to make sure everyone is happy and does whatever she can to make a sale work out for the seller.” ~ Stephanie S. ORLANDO’S 5 STAR REALTORS
MaryStuart Day Realtor- Sales Associate Tell us about why you chose a career in real estate and how long you’ve been a Realtor?
I’ve been a Realtor with Fannie Hillman + Associates, located in Winter Park, for over 16 years. I started my career as a Kindergarten teacher for Orange County Public Schools, right out of college. What drew me to teaching is very similar to what led me to be a Realtor. You’re more than an educator or an agent - you’re a mentor, a counselor, and a trusted confidant. You’re part of their journey. And, you can actually make a difference in people’s lives. What drove you to choose Fannie Hillman + Associates?
My step-mother, who was a Relator at Fannie Hillman for 22 years, invited me to join her team to test the waters. Let’s just say that I learned from the best. Like all good teachers, my step-mother taught me to work hard, listen carefully, and master the fundamentals. She taught me to allow my track record to be a promotional tool. Because when you consistently deliver excellence and love what you do, it shows, and people will find out. What geographic areas do you service?
Each school district, zip code, neighborhood and even streets have their own “personality”. Home values can dramatically change just by taking a right turn. I was born and raised in Maitland and Winter Park. That’s why I focus on Winter Park, Maitland, Baldwin Park, and surrounding Orlando areas. What my customers tell me is they appreciate that I have a personal history with this area because it gives them a greater understanding of why home values may differ by street, by neighborhood or by zip code. What’s the most enjoyable, rewarding, satisfying and gratifying part of being a Real Estate Agent?
The most enjoyable part is matching a buyer with the dream home. The most rewarding parts are the big smiles, or a sigh of relief, after a closing, knowing that I helped them navigate one of the hardest financial decisions in their life. The most gratifying part is being a mini-CEO, where I can chart my own course, choose my own clients, and have a positive impact on people’s lives. The most satisfying is being invited into people’s lives, becoming their trusted confidant, and ultimately, their friend.

GUARDIANSHIP LAW NOT JUST FOR THE ELDERLY
When you think of guardianship law you think of the elderly, however guardianship law encompasses so much more. Guardianship law was created to take care of any incapacitated person at any age. A person can become incapacitated through repeated drug use, mental health issues, or from birth. The legal definition of incapacitated is a person temporarily or permanently impaired by mental and/or physical deficiency, disability, illness, or by the use of drugs to the extent he or she lacks sufficient understanding to make rational decisions or engage in responsible actions. There are two different types of guardianships. The first is of just the person This would be where the incapacitated person does not have any property or money to be handled correctly. An example of that would be a parent of their child just becoming an adult. Then there is of the person and the property. This is the situation when a person has finances and property but is not able to adequately take care of themselves or their belongings.
Jaya Balani Partner with NeJame Law & Mark NeJame jointly contributed to this article
The procedure for guardianship in Florida requires the hiring of an attorney to represent the guardian. A parent can obtain guardianship of their child after the age of 18. In some circumstances it is relatively easy if the child, as a minor, has a mental disability, autism or something that would prevent them from being able to take care of themselves in everyday situations. However, if a parent were to apply for guardianship for their child after the age of 18 for a situation that did not occur as a minor, then they would have to go through the full process of having the child evaluated and having a court deem the child incapacitated.
There are several requirements for a guardian to be appointed. The court runs a background check and credit check to protect the interest of the incapacitated person. In circumstances where multiple people apply to be a guardian separately, the courts will determine the person best suited to look after their interests. There are many situations where a person needs a guardian but doesn’t have someone to do it for them due to time, financial ability or just unavailability, there are professional guardians. These guardians have the training and ability to determine what the best course of action is for anyone with mental health, addictions or just failing memory. The court will appoint them and they will be required to report everything back to make sure that no one is being taken advantage of. Being a guardian is not an easy task but it is one that can be rewarding by helping a loved one manage their life and finances and in some circumstances, get the medical help they need. The process can take several months and once the guardian is appointed, the work is not done. The guardianship is watched closely by the courts to make sure the incapacitated person is not being taken advantage of. The guardian has to provide inventories, accounting of funds and annual plans. A guardianship is not always permanent. A person can always petition the court to remove their guardian if their situation has changed and a doctor can determine that they can make their own decisions.
